notable_a preface_n verse_n 17_o 18_o 19_o 20._o wherein_o he_o seek_v as_o well_o to_o prevent_v and_o to_o remove_v the_o false_a opinion_n which_o the_o jew_n have_v conceive_v of_o he_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o law_n as_o also_o to_o procure_v all_o reverence_n and_o loyalty_n to_o be_v show_v thereunto_o for_o the_o jewish_a teacher_n see_v our_o saviour_n christ_n condemn_v and_o neglect_v the_o tradition_n of_o the_o elder_n and_o not_o so_o much_o to_o respect_v the_o ceremony_n of_o the_o law_n as_o they_o think_v he_o shall_v do_v thereupon_o judge_v he_o to_o be_v a_o which_o be_v the_o proper_a work_n of_o faith_n but_o other_o thing_n it_o do_v by_o the_o help_n of_o a_o other_o and_o so_o faith_n bring_v forth_o the_o work_n of_o mercy_n and_o perform_v the_o duty_n of_o the_o first_o and_o second_o table_n not_o proper_o by_o itself_o but_o by_o the_o help_n of_o love_n and_o therefore_o here_o i_o say_v that_o in_o every_o good_a work_n be_v require_v that_o love_n whereby_o faith_n work_v now_o the_o kind_n of_o love_n require_v in_o welldoing_a be_v two_o first_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n for_o as_o we_o know_v god_n in_o christ_n praise_n of_o man_n iv._o when_o man_n do_v 4_o good_a work_n from_o some_o corruption_n of_o heart_n prevail_a in_o they_o as_o when_o a_o man_n be_v both_o proud_a and_o covetous_a yet_o more_o proud_a than_o covetous_a covetousness_n bid_v he_o not_o to_o give_v to_o the_o poor_a but_o yet_o pride_n desire_v the_o praise_n of_o man_n prevail_a in_o he_o cause_v he_o to_o give_v to_o the_o poor_a and_o so_o when_o covetousness_n prevail_v in_o a_o proud_a man_n it_o will_v cause_v he_o to_o abstain_v from_o riot_n &_o proud_a apparel_n which_o yet_o his_o pride_n will_v persuade_v he_o unto_o in_o all_o these_o case_n spiritual_a guile_n corrupt_v the_o work_n that_o otherwise_o be_v good_a in_o itself_o and_o therefore_o we_o must_v have_v a_o watchful_a eye_n unto_o singleness_n of_o heart_n in_o our_o well-doing_n and_o to_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o virtue_n before_o name_v that_o so_o we_o may_v be_v able_a to_o say_v with_o good_a conscience_n that_o our_o work_n be_v head_n drowsy_a and_o hereby_o lust_n be_v kindle_v and_o sin_n cherish_v which_o the_o apostle_n forbid_v rom._n 13._o 14._o as_o also_o too_o little_a care_n whereby_o the_o body_n be_v pine_v and_o pull_v down_o to_o overmuch_o weakness_n which_o be_v one_o thing_n here_o reprove_v the_o care_n require_v be_v that_o moderate_a regard_n unto_o the_o body_n whereby_o it_o be_v so_o sustain_v by_o which_o may_v well_o suffice_v nature_n but_o not_o fulfil_v the_o lust_n thereof_o second_o if_o this_o will_v not_o serve_v to_o subdue_v the_o flesh_n but_o that_o it_o will_v still_o rebel_v against_o the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n as_o in_o some_o it_o will_v not_o then_o fast_v must_v be_v use_v in_o which_o the_o body_n be_v to_o be_v afflict_v and_o the_o soul_n humble_v for_o the_o subdue_a of_o the_o rebellious_a flesh_n but_o yet_o herein_o we_o must_v beware_v that_o we_o destroy_v not_o our_o health_n our_o strength_n or_o our_o constltution_n for_o thus_o we_o neglect_v our_o life_n which_o be_v a_o sin_n of_o murder_n wherein_o though_o few_o yet_o some_o do_v offend_v who_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n live_v in_o the_o practice_n of_o soul_n and_o gross_a sin_n otherways_o five_o here_o note_v how_o far_o the_o pharisy_n go_v in_o outward_a humiliation_n duty_n they_o be_v content_a to_o afflict_v their_o body_n even_o to_o the_o disfigure_v of_o religion_n so_o embrace_v because_o in_o dispense_n with_o sin_n for_o the_o performance_n of_o these_o bodily_a action_n it_o fit_v so_o well_o to_o our_o corrupt_a nature_n wherefore_o let_v we_o take_v notice_n of_o this_o our_o corruption_n &_o though_o we_o must_v not_o neglect_v the_o humble_v of_o the_o body_n upon_o just_a occasion_n yet_o let_v we_o principal_o look_v to_o the_o mortify_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o obedience_n of_o the_o heart_n vers_fw-la 17._o but_o when_o thou_o fast_o anoint_v thy_o head_n and_o wash_v thy_o face_n 18._o that_o thou_o seem_v not_o unto_o practice_n when_o he_o perceive_v his_o child_n be_v dead_a &_o will_v testify_v that_o he_o have_v cease_v from_o mourning_n for_o it_o as_o also_o by_o the_o speech_n of_o christ_n justify_v the_o and_o here_o this_o one_o thing_n must_v be_v remember_v that_o the_o principal_a point_n of_o this_o wisdom_n happiness_n be_v to_o determine_v of_o true_a happiness_n whereto_o the_o whole_a life_n
