no_o far_o such_o be_v the_o secret_a virtue_n divine_a power_n and_o inexpressible_a efficacy_n of_o christ_n that_o work_v by_o his_o spirit_n on_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o regenerate_v be_v make_v new_a creature_n 2_o cor._n 5.17_o the_o will_n and_o ability_n to_o do_v a_o work_n please_v and_o acceptable_a to_o god_n be_v no_o mo●e_n in_o the_o unregenerate_v power_n then_o their_o creation_n new-birth_n and_o first_o act_n of_o conversion_n be_v the_o most_o powerful_a work_n of_o god_n spirit_n for_o then_o a_o sinner_n be_v anew_o create_v of_o nothing_o in_o regard_n of_o spiritual_n be_v he_o be_v make_v something_o of_o a_o man_n dead_a in_o sin_n he_o be_v quicken_v and_o have_v spiritual_a life_n put_v into_o he_o as_o a_o child_n bear_v of_o a_o woman_n have_v all_o the_o part_n of_o soul_n and_o body_n so_o he_o that_o be_v bear_v again_o of_o god_n have_v all_o the_o part_n of_o a_o newman_n all_o the_o faithful_a have_v all_o such_o grace_n as_o be_v absolute_o necessary_a to_o salvation_n actual_o wrought_v in_o they_o no_o saint_n want_v any_o grace_n that_o may_v hinder_v his_o salvation_n though_o he_o shall_v instant_o die_v the_o perfection_n of_o sanctification_n be_v but_o the_o high_a degree_n of_o that_o which_o be_v begin_v before_o and_o without_o regeneration_n there_o be_v no_o attain_n to_o this_o perfection_n except_o a_o man_n be_v bear_v again_o by_o water_n and_o the_o spirit_n he_o can_v enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n joh._n 3.5_o hereby_o a_o man_n of_o a_o limb_n of_o the_o devil_n be_v make_v a_o member_n of_o christ_n and_o of_o a_o child_n of_o satan_n the_o child_n of_o god_n now_o the_o work_n of_o regeneration_n in_o man_n be_v a_o proper_a and_o immediate_a work_n of_o the_o godhead_n for_o to_o regenerate_v be_v to_o create_v and_o man_n in_o that_o he_o be_v regenerate_v be_v create_v again_o nothing_o then_o can_v active_o regenerate_v but_o god_n though_o sacrament_n be_v say_v to_o regenerate_v as_o moral_a instrument_n because_o when_o they_o be_v right_o use_v god_n himself_o confer_v grace_n by_o they_o we_o receive_v not_o new_a and_o spiritual_a life_n from_o the_o son_n but_o by_o the_o mean_n of_o his_o flesh_n apprehend_v by_o our_o faith_n yet_o the_o power_n and_o efficacy_n of_o quicken_a or_o revive_n be_v not_o in_o the_o flesh_n as_o in_o a_o proper_a subject_n but_o in_o the_o godhead_n and_o we_o be_v not_o in_o this_o regeneration_n perfect_o sanctify_v but_o only_o in_o part_n not_o perfect_o till_o death_n whence_o it_o be_v that_o a_o regenerate_a man_n restore_v by_o grace_n be_v not_o by_o his_o regeneration_n enable_v to_o fulfil_v the_o law_n perfect_o yet_o of_o a_o mere_a natural_a man_n be_v make_v a_o new_a man_n in_o regard_n of_o god_n image_n restore_v and_o renew_v by_o christ_n eph._n 4.24_o this_o be_v the_o restore_n of_o that_o new_a quality_n of_o righteousness_n and_o holiness_n lose_v in_o adam_n which_o be_v as_o it_o be_v a_o new_a soul_n for_o in_o a_o regenerate_a man_n there_o be_v a_o body-soul_n and_o beside_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v the_o grace_n of_o sanctification_n oppose_v to_o flesh_n and_o corruption_n of_o nature_n rom._n 8.10_o this_o be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o soul_n of_o a_o soul_n renew_v without_o which_o we_o can_v see_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n joh._n 3.5_o and_o last_o god_n give_v to_o the_o will_v the_o act_n of_o well-willing_a namely_o the_o will_n to_o believe_v the_o will_n to_o repent_v the_o will_n to_o obey_v god_n in_o his_o word_n 3._o the_o coworking_a grace_n when_o god_n give_v the_o deed_n to_o the_o will_n that_o be_v the_o exercise_n and_o practice_n of_o faith_n and_o repentance_n the_o first_o of_o these_o give_v the_o power_n of_o do_v good_a the_o second_o the_o will_n the_o three_o the_o deed_n and_o all_o three_o together_o make_v up_o the_o work_n of_o regeneration_n the_o regerate_v man_n can_v do_v the_o evil_n he_o will_v for_o these_o reason_n viz._n 1._o because_o he_o can_v commit_v sin_n at_o what_o time_n soever_o he_o will_v 1_o joh._n 3.9_o thus_o be_v it_o with_o joseph_n when_o he_o be_v assault_v by_o potiphar_n wife_n to_o adultery_n and_o with_o lot_n when_o his_o righteous_a soul_n be_v so_o vex_v with_o the_o abomination_n of_o the_o sodomite_n 2._o because_o the_o man_n regenerate_v can_v sin_v in_o that_o manner_n he_o will_v whereof_o there_o be_v two_o reason_n viz._n 1._o he_o can_v sin_v with_o full_a consent_n of_o will_n or_o with_o all_o his_o heart_n because_o the_o will_v so_o far_o forth_o as_o it_o be_v regenerate_v resist_v and_o drew_v back_o it_o be_v a_o rule_n that_o sin_n do_v not_o reign_v in_o the_o regenerate_v for_o how_o much_o grace_n be_v wrought_v in_o the_o mind_n will_n and_o affection_n so_o much_o be_v abate_v proportionable_o of_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o flesh_n 2._o though_o he_o fall_v into_o any_o sin_n yet_o he_o do_v not_o lie_v long_o in_o it_o but_o speedy_o recover_v himself_o by_o reason_n of_o grace_n in_o his_o heart_n two_o contrary_a ground_n or_o beginning_n of_o action_n in_o man_n after_o his_o regeneration_n 1._o say_a faculty_n by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n call_v the_o spirit_n these_o two_o be_v not_o sever_v but_o join_v and_o mingle_v together_o in_o all_o the_o faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n why_o the_o will_n of_o the_o regenerate_v be_v incline_v not_o only_o to_o good_a but_o to_o evil_a also_o viz._n 1._o in_o this_o life_n the_o renew_n of_o our_o nature_n be_v not_o perfect_a neither_o as_o concern_v they_o perish_v not_o isa_n 63.17_o for_o as_o the_o beginning_n so_o the_o continuance_n of_o our_o conversion_n depend_v on_o god_n the_o work_n of_o our_o regeneration_n be_v distinct_o attribute_v excellency_n of_o god_n gift_n 7._o if_o our_o work_n shall_v merit_v christ_n shall_v not_o be_v a_o perfect_a saviour_n nor_o heaven_n purchase_v for_o we_o by_o his_o blood_n only_o which_o now_o to_o affirm_v be_v to_o crucify_v he_o worse_o than_o the_o jew_n do_v good_a work_n can_v justify_v we_o for_o these_o reason_n viz._n 1._o because_o our_o best_a work_n yea_o the_o work_n of_o the_o imperfection_n of_o his_o work_n cover_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n all_o these_o be_v exclude_v from_o be_v good_a work_n viz._n 1._o which_o be_v sin_n in_o themselves_o and_o repugnant_a to_o god_n law_n and_o his_o will_n reveal_v in_o his_o most_o sacred_a word_n 2._o which_o be_v not_o repugnant_a to_o the_o law_n neither_o in_o themselves_o good_a or_o evil_n but_o which_o may_v yet_o unlawful_o do_v or_o not_o as_o they_o ought_v to_o be_v how_o the_o work_n of_o the_o regenerate_v and_o unregenerate_v differ_v viz._n 1._o the_o work_n of_o the_o unregenerate_a proceed_v not_o from_o faith_n as_o those_o of_o the_o regenerate_v do_v 2._o the_o work_n of_o the_o unregenerate_a be_v not_o join_v with_o a_o inward_a obedience_n and_o therefore_o be_v do_v dissemble_o and_o be_v mere_a hypocrisy_n but_o it_o be_v far_o otherwise_o with_o the_o regenerate_v 3._o as_o the_o work_n of_o the_o unregenerate_a proceed_v not_o from_o the_o right_a cause_n so_o be_v they_o not_o refer_v to_o the_o chief_a end_n which_o be_v god_n glory_n but_o in_o both_o these_o the_o work_n of_o the_o regenerate_v be_v right_o and_o true_o qualify_v though_o the_o work_n of_o the_o most_o we_o must_v again_o consider_v good_a work_v two_o way_n viz._n 1._o in_o themselves_o as_o they_o be_v compare_v with_o the_o law_n and_o the_o rigour_n thereof_o and_o so_o they_o be_v sin_n on_o the_o holy_a &_o spiritual_a breastplate_n of_o righteousness_n which_o be_v good_a work_v viz._n 1._o it_o keep_v we_o from_o be_v mortal_o wound_v for_o so_o long_o as_o we_o retain_v a_o true_a purpose_n and_o faithful_a endeavour_n answerable_a thereto_o we_o shall_v never_o give_v ourselves_o over_o to_o commit_v sin_n and_o iniquity_n 2._o it_o bring_v great_a assurance_n of_o
