and_o life_n eternal_a five_o they_o see_v not_o that_o the_o work_n of_o free_a will_n as_o they_o call_v they_o if_o there_o be_v any_o such_o to_o be_v duty_n only_o and_o testimony_n of_o thankfulness_n according_a to_o the_o first_o institution_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n which_o be_v do_v by_o the_o strength_n of_o nature_n but_o ascribe_v some_o special_a meritorious_a virtue_n unto_o they_o wherefore_o we_o conclude_v concern_v these_o man_n that_o albeit_o they_o be_v not_o just_a of_o one_o mind_n with_o those_o old_a jew_n against_o who_o the_o apostle_n dispute_v in_o the_o epistle_n to_o the_o roman_n yet_o they_o hold_v much_o on_o their_o side_n strive_v to_o defend_v that_o nature_n be_v in_o part_n good_a and_o holy_a so_o contend_v against_o the_o pure_a and_o only_a grace_n of_o god_n and_o to_o divide_v justification_n and_o justification_n the_o popish_a justification_n man_n salvation_n between_o christ_n and_o god_n free_a grace_n &_o the_o virtue_n and_o work_n of_o nature_n whereas_o notwithstanding_o these_o two_o nature_n and_o grace_n can_v never_o stand_v together_o in_o the_o work_n of_o our_o salvation_n for_o galathian_o his_v disputation_n be_v against_o such_o jew_n as_o be_v not_o content_a with_o christ_n only_o but_o will_v have_v christ_n and_o the_o law_n join_v together_o thus_o far_o of_o the_o comparison_n between_o paul_n and_o we_o on_o the_o one_o side_n the_o old_a jew_n and_o the_o papist_n on_o the_o other_o now_o because_o it_o will_v be_v demand_v what_o paul_n think_v of_o the_o work_n of_o regeneration_n and_o what_o we_o and_o what_o the_o adversary_n think_v also_o therefore_o i_o will_v touch_v this_o question_n in_o few_o word_n here_o then_o some_o one_o will_v say_v do_v paul_n then_o in_o that_o disputation_n to_o the_o rom._n and_o to_o the_o galathian_o oppugn_v the_o work_n of_o grace_n and_o regeneration_n i_o answer_v paul_n chief_a purpose_n in_o that_o disputation_n be_v against_o the_o work_n of_o nature_n which_o the_o jew_n think_v to_o be_v holy_a and_o just_a and_o also_o meritorious_a he_o do_v not_o reject_v the_o work_n of_o regeneration_n as_o they_o be_v duty_n and_o testimony_n of_o thankfulness_n unto_o god_n but_o in_o that_o respect_n commend_v they_o rom._n 6._o 7._o 8._o chapter_n and_o in_o other_o place_n but_o as_o touch_v the_o cause_n of_o justification_n he_o will_v not_o have_v these_o work_n as_o we_o call_v they_o of_o regeneration_n couple_v with_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n or_o with_o christ_n or_o with_o faith_n as_o any_o cause_n or_o as_o part_v of_o any_o meritorious_a cause_n of_o salvation_n to_o this_o purpose_n he_o say_v rom._n 4._o that_o abraham_n himself_o be_v regenerate_v be_v not_o justify_v before_o god_n by_o any_o work_n of_o his_o regeneration_n and_o rom._n 6._o have_v commend_v the_o work_n of_o sanctification_n in_o the_o end_n vers_n 23._o where_o he_o attribute_v death_n to_o the_o merit_n of_o sin_n he_o do_v not_o there_o notwithstanding_o ascribe_v life_n eternal_a to_o the_o merit_n of_o the_o work_n or_o fruit_n of_o sanctification_n but_o when_o he_o have_v say_v that_o the_o wage_n of_o sin_n be_v death_n he_o do_v clear_o avouch_v it_o that_o eternal_a life_n be_v the_o free_a gift_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesu_n in_o which_o place_n if_o the_o apostle_n covenant_n of_o work_n and_o that_o the_o lord_n propound_v to_o the_o young_a man_n the_o form_n of_o the_o conenant_n of_o work_n but_o observe_v that_o the_o lord_n so_o answer_v to_o one_o that_o seek_v his_o life_n and_o salvation_n by_o the_o law_n and_o which_o do_v before_o cleave_v unto_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o trust_v to_o work_n as_o meritorious_a for_o so_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o law_n of_o work_n must_v be_v set_v before_o every_o one_o which_o be_v without_o christ_n seek_v righteousness_n by_o the_o law_n and_o the_o work_n of_o by_o faith_n in_o christ_n so_o then_o the_o lord_n answer_v fit_o to_o his_o question_n do_v this_o and_o thou_o shall_v live_v which_o manner_n of_o speak_v be_v never_o wont_a to_o be_v propound_v abolish_v do_v first_o appertain_v to_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n but_o now_o it_o have_v another_o special_a use_n for_o it_o serve_v for_o our_o direction_n in_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n and_o sanctification_n so_o then_o the_o law_n have_v cease_v as_o it_o be_v the_o rule_n of_o the_o work_n of_o nature_n require_v in_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n but_o it_o be_v still_o in_o use_n to_o they_o which_o be_v in_o christ_n as_o it_o be_v the_o rule_n of_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n for_o the_o same_o justice_n of_o god_n be_v unchangeable_a and_o the_o law_n of_o god_n be_v the_o very_a image_n of_o divine_a justice_n wherefore_o the_o law_n of_o god_n must_v abide_v for_o ever_o albeit_o it_o have_v not_o ever_o the_o same_o use_n nor_o be_v not_o always_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o covenant_n now_o we_o be_v to_o compare_v a_o little_a our_o assertion_n with_o the_o adversary_n and_o to_o consider_v which_o of_o both_o side_n be_v of_o sound_a judgement_n touch_v both_o these_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o of_o grace_n a_o rule_n to_o try_v the_o opinion_n of_o the_o adversary_n &_o we_o by_o can_v none_o better_o be_v find_v they_o the_o doctrine_n of_o paul_n special_o that_o in_o the_o epistle_n to_o the_o roman_n and_o namely_o in_o that_o disputation_n which_o he_o have_v of_o justification_n in_o the_o 3._o first_o chapter_n against_o the_o jew_n of_o that_o time_n if_o after_o conference_n we_o shall_v find_v that_o our_o assertion_n do_v consent_n with_o paul_n mind_n and_o doctrine_n and_o that_o the_o adversary_n be_v of_o the_o same_o mind_n and_o judgement_n with_o the_o jew_n which_o live_v in_o paul_n time_n than_o it_o shall_v plain_o appear_v that_o our_o judgement_n be_v better_a than_o the_o adversary_n concern_v the_o covenant_n of_o christ_n and_o in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n four_o he_o prove_v the_o justification_n of_o man_n and_o so_o consequent_o the_o salvation_n which_o be_v according_a to_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n covenant_n of_o work_n i_o grant_v he_o do_v express_o fight_v against_o that_o justification_n and_o salvation_n which_o be_v by_o the_o work_n of_o nature_n require_v in_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o for_o the_o justification_n of_o faith_n which_o be_v require_v in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n but_o by_o one_o and_o the_o self_n same_o disputation_n he_o conclude_v both_o against_o nature_n and_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o for_o christ_n and_o for_o god_n grace_n in_o he_o that_o be_v for_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n for_o the_o doctrine_n of_o antecedent_n must_v necessary_o be_v include_v in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o consequent_a by_o this_o purpose_n of_o paul_n we_o may_v see_v what_o be_v the_o drift_n of_o those_o adversary_n jew_n and_o what_o be_v their_o judgement_n against_o who_o he_o dispute_v in_o the_o epistle_n to_o the_o rom._n those_o jew_n they_o on_o the_o contrary_a part_n do_v strive_v for_o nature_n as_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n as_o also_o for_o the_o very_a covenant_n of_o work_n or_o of_o nature_n for_o justification_n and_o salvation_n by_o work_n and_o according_a to_o the_o form_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n they_o do_v i_o say_v contend_v for_o these_o thing_n against_o christ_n against_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o against_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o against_o justification_n and_o salvation_n of_o man_n which_o be_v according_a to_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n igraunt_a that_o as_o be_v aforesaid_a the_o question_n be_v of_o this_o last_o point_n which_o be_v justification_n but_o this_o question_n include_v all_o the_o former_a branch_n as_o be_v before_o show_v wherefore_o let_v we_o consider_v again_o that_o old_a controversy_n and_o the_o very_a ground_n thereof_o in_o this_o controversy_n by_o the_o way_n note_v how_o great_a the_o time_n the_o state_n and_o blindness_n of_o the_o jew_n in_o paul_n time_n blindness_n be_v
