merit_n &_o satisfaction_n be_v but_o the_o moral_a remote_a preparatory_a cause_n of_o our_o justification_n though_o exceed_v eminent_a etc._n etc._n and_o that_o the_o perfect_a near_o efficient_a cause_n be_v by_o other_o act_n of_o christ_n and_o that_o all_o concur_v to_o accomplish_v the_o work_n by_o this_o it_o appear_v that_o justification_n be_v a_o act_n of_o christ_n as_o a_o king_n only_o though_o his_o merit_n make_v way_n for_o his_o kingly_a power_n and_o his_o prophetical_a teach_n promote_v man_n obedience_n &_o that_o his_o justify_v we_o be_v his_o acquit_v we_o from_o guilt_n and_o condemnation_n because_o we_o have_v obey_v his_o law_n or_o new_a covenant_n and_o that_o obedience_n to_o that_o law_n as_o obedience_n to_o a_o royal_a law_n be_v the_o condition_n of_o our_o justification_n or_o the_o thing_n for_o which_o we_o must_v be_v justify_v and_o that_o faith_n with_o these_o man_n be_v nothing_o but_o obedience_n to_o the_o gospel-precept_n ground_v upon_o a_o belief_n that_o they_o come_v from_o christ_n and_o shall_v be_v reward_v according_a to_o his_o promise_n and_o therefore_o when_o they_o contend_v that_o faith_n justifi_v not_o by_o one_o act_n of_o affiance_n but_o by_o all_o its_o act_n they_o do_v but_o confound_v themselves_o and_o the_o question_n for_o even_o according_a to_o themselves_o faith_n justifi_v proper_o and_o immediate_o by_o one_o act_n only_o or_o under_o one_o only_a notion_n viz._n of_o obedience_n to_o the_o gospel_n and_o that_o direct_v to_o christ_n only_o as_o king_n and_o that_o the_o other_o act_n of_o it_o respect_v his_o merit_n and_o teach_v be_v but_o accidental_a to_o it_o and_o without_o its_o notion_n as_o justify_v we_o be_v then_o to_o prove_v that_o obedience_n to_o the_o gospel_n be_v not_o the_o condition_n of_o our_o justification_n though_o join_v with_o or_o build_v upon_o faith_n in_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o and_o thus_o i_o argue_v the_o first_o argument_n from_o rom._n 4.16_o 17._o therefore_o it_o be_v of_o faith_n that_o it_o may_v be_v of_o grace_n to_o the_o end_n the_o promise_n may_v be_v sure_a to_o all_o the_o seed_n not_o to_o that_o only_a which_o be_v of_o the_o law_n but_o to_o that_o also_o which_o be_v of_o the_o faith_n of_o abraham_n who_o be_v the_o father_n of_o we_o all_o etc._n etc._n the_o faith_n here_o speak_v of_o be_v justify_v by_o keep_v the_o law_n unless_o he_o have_v do_v it_o mere_o by_o his_o own_o connate_a strength_n without_o addition_n or_o assistance_n of_o divine_a grace_n throughout_o his_o life_n what_o the_o grace_n be_v which_o these_o man_n allow_v to_o our_o obedience_n be_v yet_o uncertain_a but_o this_o alter_v not_o the_o nature_n of_o justification_n if_o it_o be_v by_o obedience_n in_o general_n viz._n he_o that_o obey_v to_o the_o end_n shall_v be_v save_v but_o thus_o the_o promise_n to_o adam_n be_v as_o certain_a viz_o if_o he_o have_v obey_v perfect_o to_o the_o end_n he_o
