text_n false_a translation_n unintelligible_a reason_n and_o distinction_n cite_v and_o urge_v on_o the_o behalf_n of_o the_o trinitarian_n doctrine_n and_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n by_o the_o numerous_a clear_a text_n allow_v translation_n reason_v and_o distinction_n common_a to_o mankind_n produce_v by_o the_o unitarian_n that_o these_o last_o may_v reasonable_o retort_v this_o great_a objection_n on_o their_o opposite_n the_o trinitarian_n who_o in_o a_o thousand_o express_a text_n of_o scripture_n do_v exalt_v their_o reason_n to_o maintain_v another_o sense_n than_o the_o plain_a word_n require_v for_o one_o instance_n how_o many_o express_a text_n ascribe_v part_n and_o member_n affection_n and_o passion_n shape_v and_o figure_n place_n and_o circumscription_n to_o god_n all_o which_o as_o the_o author_n of_o these_o letter_n note_n be_v otherways_o expound_v by_o learned_a man_n because_o they_o judge_v these_o thing_n in_o reason_n unsuitable_a to_o god._n but_o what_o principle_n more_o clear_a both_o in_o reason_n and_o scripture_n than_o this_o that_o there_o be_v but_o one_o god_n or_o that_o god_n be_v one_o all_o christian_n and_o all_o jew_n and_o all_o mahometan_n who_o be_v say_v to_o be_v more_o in_o number_n than_o christian_n beside_o the_o wise_a heathen_n do_v acknowledge_v it_o and_o all_o these_o understand_v by_o the_o term_n god_n a_o necessary_a existent_a person_n upon_o these_o clear_a ground_n the_o unitarian_n deny_v that_o there_o be_v three_o such_o as_o contrary_a to_o that_o unity_n and_o introduce_v into_o the_o godhead_n two_o unnecessary_a or_o superfluous_a person_n for_o if_o one_o be_v sufficient_a and_o he_o can_v be_v god_n if_o he_o be_v not_o sufficient_a than_o the_o two_o more_o be_v supernumerary_a and_o unnecessary_a and_o consequent_o not_o god._n for_o my_o own_o part_n i_o be_v breed_v up_o in_o the_o trinitarian_n faith_n and_o take_v the_o truth_n of_o it_o for_o grant_v but_o when_o these_o scripture_n and_o reason_n come_v into_o my_o view_n and_o i_o have_v get_v over_o the_o fear_n of_o examine_v what_o some_o man_n who_o name_n themselves_o the_o church_n call_v fundamental_o i_o conld_v not_o avoid_v the_o force_n of_o they_o though_o it_o grieve_v i_o that_o i_o can_v continue_v in_o consent_n with_o my_o old_a friend_n as_o well_o in_o this_o as_o other_o part_n of_o christian_a doctrine_n but_o certain_o as_o in_o philosophy_n truth_n shall_v be_v more_o dear_a to_o we_o than_o plato_n or_o socrates_n so_o in_o theology_n the_o testimony_n of_o plain_a scripture_n agree_v with_o evident_a reason_n shall_v prevail_v with_o those_o who_o believe_v the_o scripture_n divine_a more_o than_o obscure_a text_n dissonant_n to_o the_o clear_a reason_n
