this_o pattern_n i_o tell_v you_o in_o the_o last_o lecture_n it_o be_v only_a god_n that_o can_v speak_v to_o the_o heart_n inward_o and_o effectual_o but_o certain_o that_o minister_n shall_v soon_o convey_v as_o it_o be_v his_o word_n into_o the_o heart_n who_o speak_v with_o his_o heart_n yea_o rather_o speak_v his_o heart_n who_o expression_n manifest_v his_o affection_n as_o to_o the_o thing_n concern_v which_o so_o to_o the_o person_n to_o who_o he_o speak_v and_o this_o shall_v suffice_v for_o a_o brief_a account_n of_o the_o compellation_n 2_o proceed_v we_o to_o the_o exhortation_n in_o those_o word_n and_o now_o abide_v in_o he_o before_o i_o discuss_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o duty_n it_o will_v not_o be_v amiss_o to_o observe_v that_o what_o be_v assure_v in_o the_o end_n of_o the_o former_a verse_n you_o shall_v abide_v in_o he_o be_v prescribe_v in_o the_o begin_n of_o this_o abide_v in_o he_o abide_v in_o christ_n be_v the_o matter_n of_o both_o a_o promise_n and_o a_o precept_n it_o be_v that_o which_o we_o shall_v find_v verify_v in_o other_o duty_n as_o well_o as_o this_o i_o will_v put_v my_o fear_n in_o their_o heart_n so_o run_v the_o promise_n fear_v the_o lord_n so_o frequent_o the_o precept_n a_o new_a heart_n will_v i_o give_v you_o and_o a_o new_a spirit_n will_v i_o put_v within_o you_o so_o god_n promise_v make_v you_o a_o new_a heart_n and_o a_o new_a spirit_n 16_o so_o he_o command_v the_o lord_n thy_o god_n will_v circumcise_v thy_o heart_n to_o love_v he_o be_v the_o promise_n and_o in_o the_o same_o chapter_n i_o command_v thou_o this_o day_n to_o love_v the_o lord_n thy_o god_n indeed_o there_o may_v seem_v some_o kind_n of_o incongruity_n in_o this_o at_o the_o first_o view_n for_o what_o need_n be_v there_o of_o command_v we_o to_o do_v what_o god_n promise_v he_o will_v enable_v we_o to_o do_v but_o in_o truth_n there_o be_v a_o sweet_a harmony_n between_o precept_n and_o promise_n of_o this_o nature_n whilst_o these_o serve_v to_o strengthen_v our_o confidence_n and_o those_o to_o quicken_v our_o diligence_n when_o on_o the_o one_o hand_n we_o be_v exhort_v to_o abide_v in_o christ_n we_o may_v be_v ready_a to_o say_v but_o how_o shall_v i_o be_v able_a to_o perform_v this_o duty_n my_o enemy_n be_v so_o strong_a and_o grace_n so_o weak_a that_o i_o fear_v i_o shall_v let_v go_v my_o hold_n and_o as_o david_n once_o say_v i_o shall_v one_o day_n fall_v by_o the_o hand_n of_o saul_n so_o the_o weak_a though_o willing_a christian_a be_v apt_a to_o say_v i_o shall_v one_o day_n fall_v by_o the_o power_n and_o policy_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o notwithstanding_o all_o my_o resolution_n and_o endeavour_n i_o fear_v my_o deceitful_a heart_n will_v be_v with-drawn_a from_o christ_n but_o lo_o for_o our_o comfort_n and_o encouragement_n here_o be_v a_o promise_n that_o by_o the_o virtue_n of_o this_o unction_n we_o shall_v abide_v on_o the_o other_o hand_n when_o we_o meet_v with_o these_o and_o such_o like_a promise_n of_o perseverance_n we_o may_v be_v ready_a to_o flatter_v ourselves_o
