he_o be_v first_o burden_v with_o the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n &_o that_o burden_n be_v remove_v yet_o there_o remain_v a_o body_n of_o death_n there_o be_v another_o burden_n still_o upon_o he_o so_o that_o the_o very_o remain_v of_o some_o corruption_n be_v a_o great_a burden_n unto_o he_o than_o all_o thy_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o the_o full_a strength_n of_o it_o though_o they_o have_v the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n remove_v yet_o the_o very_a lest_o sin_n remain_v in_o they_o be_v a_o burden_n though_o they_o have_v mortify_v their_o sin_n and_o do_v it_o every_o day_n yet_o the_o remain_v of_o sin_n be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o they_o and_o hence_o you_o may_v see_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o watchfulness_n of_o the_o saint_n over_o their_o spirit_n why_o they_o spend_v so_o much_o time_n and_o rise_v so_o early_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n you_o will_v say_v they_o know_v that_o if_o they_o do_v not_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o their_o corruption_n to_o a_o void_a sin_n it_o will_v be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o sin_n afterward_o now_o you_o do_v not_o watch_v over_o sin_n scarce_o ever_o call_v this_o into_o question_n have_v i_o meet_v with_o jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o word_n to_o day_n have_v i_o find_v jesus_n christ_n there_o this_o their_o heart_n be_v not_o so_o much_o trouble_v about_o but_o they_o come_v mere_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n it_o be_v a_o good_a thing_n but_o now_o they_o rest_v in_o the_o mean_n that_o lead_v to_o christ_n before_o they_o be_v get_v thither_o as_o if_o a_o man_n be_v a_o go_v a_o journey_n to_o such_o a_o place_n about_o such_o business_n and_o he_o satisfy_v himself_o in_o this_o i_o be_o go_v on_o my_o way_n but_o have_v i_o get_v the_o thing_n i_o go_v for_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o prayer_n the_o word_n the_o sacrament_n be_v all_o but_o as_o mean_n to_o bring_v we_o to_o christ_n now_o what_o a_o foolish_a thing_n be_v this_o to_o satisfy_v ourselves_o that_o we_o be_v in_o the_o way_n go_v to_o the_o thing_n but_o have_v we_o the_o thing_n that_o we_o journey_n for_o jesus_n christ_n be_v the_o thing_n that_o we_o seek_v for_o have_v we_o he_o the_o wise_a merchant_n have_v the_o field_n i_o but_o he_o see_v that_o there_o be_v a_o pearl_n in_o the_o field_n and_o then_o he_o go_v and_o sell_v all_o that_o he_o may_v have_v the_o pearl_n the_o field_n be_v the_o preach_v of_o the_o word_n and_o other_o ordinance_n in_o these_o ordinance_n be_v the_o pearl_n now_o that_o which_o we_o shall_v look_v for_o in_o the_o ordinance_n be_v the_o pearl_n and_o so_o use_v the_o field_n but_o only_o for_o the_o pearl_n sake_n so_o that_o this_o be_v the_o way_n that_o we_o shall_v take_v to_o come_v to_o christ_n that_o be_v in_o the_o use_n of_o all_o duty_n and_o all_o ordinance_n to_o look_v at_o christ_n that_o we_o will_v have_v by_o they_o and_o be_v sure_a to_o pass_v through_o the_o ordinance_n till_o we_o get_v hold_v on_o he_o who_o our_o soul_n love_v most_o people_n in_o the_o world_n they_o stick_v in_o the_o ordinance_n themselves_o and_o have_v get_v no_o hold_n on_o christ_n but_o mere_o spend_v all_o in_o duty_n and_o ordinance_n that_o they_o will_v do_v god_n require_v of_o they_o to_o pray_v and_o they_o will_v pray_v and_o god_n require_v of_o they_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o they_o will_v hear_v the_o word_n i_o but_o they_o do_v not_o consider_v that_o there_o be_v something_o beyond_o prayer_n and_o beyond_o the_o word_n have_v i_o get_v to_o jesus_n christ_n in_o prayer_n have_v i_o get_v to_o jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o word_n and_o that_o be_v a_o good_a sign_n when_o the_o heart_n of_o sinner_n be_v satisfy_v with_o nothing_o with_o no_o ordinance_n except_o they_o find_v jesus_n christ_n in_o those_o ordinance_n be_v sure_a to_o go_v through_o the_o ordinance_n unto_o christ_n rule_n ii_o second_o in_o your_o seek_n after_o christ_n be_v sure_a that_o you_o rather_o pitch_v your_o eye_n and_o your_o heart_n upon_o the_o person_n of_o christ_n himself_o then_o upon_o the_o good_a thing_n that_o come_v from_o christ_n other_z where_o that_o if_o that_o fail_v we_o may_v have_v two_o string_n to_o our_o bow_n but_o we_o must_v come_v to_o christ_n and_o lay_v the_o full_a weight_n upon_o he_o alone_o the_o full_a soul_n upon_o he_o we_o must_v come_v to_o christ_n not_o as_o if_o we_o be_v over_o some_o deep_a pit_n and_o here_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o rest_n upon_o that_o be_v strong_a enough_o that_o if_o we_o will_v lay_v weight_n upon_o that_o be_v alone_o we_o may_v be_v safe_a well_o but_o there_o be_v another_o thing_n that_o be_v a_o rot_a thing_n now_o we_o be_v loath_a to_o venture_v upon_o the_o strong_a the_o sound_n not_o know_v it_o to_o be_v so_o but_o we_o lie_v a_o part_n upon_o the_o rot_a and_o part_n upon_o the_o sound_n by_o this_o perhaps_o we_o may_v come_v to_o fall_v and_o perish_v because_o the_o full_a weight_n be_v not_o lay_v upon_o that_o that_o be_v sound_a so_o here_o the_o lord_n propound_v his_o son_n as_o a_o alsufficient_a redeemer_n for_o we_o in_o who_o there_o be_v righteousness_n and_o salvation_n and_o require_v of_o those_o that_o come_v to_o his_o son_n that_o they_o shall_v come_v with_o their_o whole_a soul_n and_o lay_v the_o whole_a weight_n of_o their_o soul_n upon_o he_o for_o life_n and_o salvation_n and_o all_o their_o good_a and_o happiness_n now_o if_o they_o think_v to_o have_v two_o string_n to_o their_o bow_n they_o will_v have_v christ_n but_o they_o will_v have_v the_o world_n too_o and_o their_o own_o way_n too_o upon_o this_o a_o thousand_o to_o one_o but_o they_o miscarry_v it_o be_v a_o excellent_a speech_n of_o joseph_n we_o be_v call_v to_o christ_n and_o we_o be_v tell_v that_o the_o vile_a may_v come_v to_o he_o and_o christ_n will_v receive_v they_o this_o be_v well_o but_o yet_o if_o thou_o will_v reject_v this_o invitation_n and_o shall_v yet_o let_v out_o thy_o heart_n to_o other_o vanity_n and_o to_o the_o satisfy_n of_o thy_o sinful_a lust_n this_o i_o say_v this_o invitation_n of_o jesus_n christ_n will_v be_v the_o great_a aggravation_n of_o all_o thy_o sin_n that_o ever_o thou_o commit_v in_o all_o thy_o life_n thy_o whoredom_n thy_o drunkenness_n thy_o swear_n all_o thy_o sabbath_n break_v trouble_v people_n trouble_v conscience_n and_o what_o need_v so_o much_o stir_v what_o need_v so_o much_o a_o do_v no_o question_n the_o prophet_n do_v aim_v at_o these_o false_a prophet_n as_o there_o be_v many_o that_o we_o read_v of_o in_o isaiah_n and_o jeremiah_n that_o cry_v peace_n peace_n when_o there_o be_v no_o peace_n there_o be_v many_o false_a prophet_n that_o live_v in_o those_o time_n that_o say_v the_o prophet_n isaiah_n preach_v to_o you_o thing_n that_o be_v too_o hard_o god_n be_v merciful_a and_o have_v we_o not_o all_o infirmity_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v but_o trust_v in_o god_n mercy_n and_o do_v we_o not_o do_v as_o other_o do_v and_o we_o hope_v it_o shall_v be_v with_o we_o as_o with_o other_o at_o the_o last_o and_o it_o be_v but_o repent_v at_o last_o now_o in_o opposition_n to_o all_o these_o say_v the_o prophet_n isaiah_n there_o be_v no_o peace_n say_v my_o god_n let_v all_o the_o fall_v prophet_n plead_v what_o they_o will_v let_v they_o say_v what_o they_o please_v yet_o my_o god_n say_v to_o every_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a man_n and_o woman_n there_o be_v no_o peace_n to_o their_o soul_n further_o it_o may_v be_v there_o be_v some_o that_o their_o own_o heart_n will_v say_v peace_n peace_n as_o many_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o when_o they_o hear_v out_o of_o the_o word_n those_o thing_n that_o be_v very_o dreadful_a and_o do_v come_v very_o near_o to_o their_o conscience_n their_o conscience_n tell_v they_o this_o word_n of_o god_n near_o concern_v they_o yet_o they_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o bless_v themselves_o in_o their_o own_o thought_n and_o say_v notwithstanding_o it_o shall_v be_v peace_n to_o they_o just_a as_o we_o read_v in_o 29._o of_o deut._n 19_o and_o 20._o verse_n say_v the_o lord_n it_o shall_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o if_o any_o man_n when_o he_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o this_o curse_n shall_v bless_v himself_o in_o his_o heart_n and_o say_v i_o shall_v have_v peace_n though_o i_o walk_v prophet_n may_v be_v some_o of_o you_o will_v say_v in_o your_o own_o heart_n i_o shall_v have_v rest_n i_o shall_v have_v peace_n but_o say_v the_o prophet_n there_o be_v no_o peace_n to_o the_o wicked_a say_v my_o god_n though_o your_o own_o heart_n say_v you_o shall_v have_v peace_n and_o what_o need_v we_o trouble_v ourselves_o with_o the_o minister_n word_n but_o my_o god_n say_v there_o be_v no_o peace_n to_o the_o wicked_a methinks_v here_o we_o have_v a_o place_n that_o speak_v of_o wicked_a man_n direct_o in_o opposition_n to_o that_o which_o the_o church_n speak_v of_o herself_o in_o lamen_n 3.24_o the_o lord_n be_v my_o portion_n say_v my_o soul_n therefore_o will_v i_o hope_v in_o he_o now_o let_v we_o observe_v at_o this_o time_n when_o the_o church_n speak_v this_o and_o perhaps_o friend_n may_v flatter_v they_o false_a prophet_n will_v flatter_v they_o may_v be_v their_o own_o heart_n will_v flatter_v themselves_o but_o now_o to_o answer_v all_o say_v the_o prophet_n there_o be_v no_o peace_n to_o the_o wicked_a say_v my_o god_n my_o god_n say_v it_o further_o there_o be_v no_o peace_n say_v my_o god_n no_o rest_n to_o any_o out_o of_o christ_n this_o be_v to_o note_v from_o whence_o it_o come_v that_o wicked_a man_n can_v have_v no_o peace_n why_o they_o can_v have_v no_o rest_n it_o be_v from_o god_n it_o be_v god_n that_o will_v not_o give_v it_o god_n be_v against_o they_o there_o be_v many_o wicked_a man_n and_o woman_n who_o conscience_n be_v begin_v to_o be_v enlighten_v and_o they_o many_o time_n have_v trouble_v of_o spirit_n and_o when_o they_o awake_v in_o the_o night_n they_o be_v trouble_v and_o when_o they_o go_v about_o their_o business_n in_o the_o day_n they_o be_v trouble_v and_o when_o they_o come_v home_o they_o be_v trouble_v and_o so_o trouble_v as_o they_o scarce_o know_v what_o it_o be_v that_o trouble_v they_o now_o perhaps_o you_o have_v not_o know_v what_o it_o be_v that_o trouble_v you_o but_o this_o text_n in_o isa_n 57_o and_o the_o last_o verse_n tell_v you_o what_o it_o be_v that_o trouble_v you_o it_o be_v the_o lord_n that_o be_v out_o with_o you_o it_o be_v the_o anger_n the_o displeasure_n of_o the_o almighty_a that_o be_v upon_o you_o in_o those_o way_n that_o you_o have_v walk_v in_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o the_o prophet_n bring_v the_o name_n of_o god_n to_o show_v to_o i_o and_o my_o soul_n have_v some_o interest_n in_o this_o god_n and_o since_o i_o know_v god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n my_o soul_n have_v find_v peace_n and_o rest_n in_o he_o and_o he_o be_v my_o god_n and_o have_v reveal_v himself_o to_o i_o he_o who_o mind_n my_o soul_n be_v in_o some_o measure_n acquaint_v with_o my_o god_n say_v there_o be_v no_o peace_n to_o the_o wicked_a and_o though_o however_o other_o may_v think_v it_o be_v a_o strange_a thing_n to_o tell_v ungodly_a man_n that_o they_o be_v in_o a_o condition_n wherein_o they_o can_v have_v no_o peace_n when_o they_o hear_v of_o the_o dreadful_a wrath_n of_o god_n against_o all_o ungodlyness_n to_o be_v reveal_v out_o of_o the_o word_n yet_o those_o who_o be_v acquaint_v with_o the_o way_n of_o god_n those_o who_o know_v the_o holiness_n and_o justice_n of_o god_n those_o who_o understand_v the_o mind_n
