i_o may_v be_v ready_a to_o miss_v this_o tract_n i_o answer_v answ._n there_o be_v a_o certain_a sagacity_n that_o god_n give_v to_o a_o man_n by_o which_o he_o find_v out_o this_o way_n for_o a_o little_a step_v to_o &_o fro_o course_n and_o walk_v for_o recreation_n a_o walk_n as_o a_o man_n do_v in_o a_o gallery_n but_o it_o be_v a_o constant_a course_n he_o walk_v on_o so_o likewise_o the_o course_n of_o a_o christian_a life_n it_o be_v a_o constant_a continue_a term_n of_o action_n when_o a_o man_n do_v not_o good_a by_o a_o fit_a or_o two_o but_o when_o he_o continue_v in_o well-doing_n when_o it_o be_v the_o ordinary_a constant_a tract_n of_o his_o life_n now_o we_o will_v brief_o make_v some_o use_n of_o it_o and_o the_o use_n shall_v be_v but_o these_o two_o accord_v to_o this_o similitude_n and_o the_o agreement_n of_o this_o walk_n with_o a_o christian_a life_n if_o a_o christian_a life_n be_v of_o this_o nature_n 1_o that_o it_o be_v like_o a_o walk_n in_o a_o journey_n that_o every_o act_n be_v a_o step_n then_o my_o belove_a it_o shall_v stir_v we_o up_o to_o consider_v serious_o what_o business_n we_o have_v in_o hand_n for_o what_o purpose_n we_o come_v into_o the_o world_n namely_o to_o go_v a_o journey_n not_o to_o sit_v still_o not_o to_o be_v idle_a we_o be_v to_o travail_v a_o part_n of_o this_o journey_n every_o day_n and_o therefore_o the_o first_o thing_n we_o be_v to_o do_v be_v to_o choose_v a_o right_a way_n you_o must_v know_v therefore_o that_o there_o be_v many_o thousand_o it_o be_v the_o common_a condition_n of_o man_n in_o the_o church_n that_o think_v they_o be_v in_o a_o right_a way_n and_o so_o go_v on_o in_o it_o without_o examination_n whereas_o you_o must_v know_v this_o that_o every_o man_n by_o nature_n be_v set_v in_o a_o wrong_a way_n as_o soon_o as_o he_o come_v into_o the_o world_n wherein_o he_o travail_v as_o in_o a_o way_n that_o lead_v to_o destruction_n so_o that_o till_o a_o man_n begin_v to_o see_v his_o error_n till_o he_o begin_v to_o come_v seririous_o to_o consider_v this_o be_v not_o the_o way_n i_o shall_v follow_v and_o to_o choose_v a_o contrary_a no_o man_n travail_v towards_o heaven_n no_o man_n be_v in_o cuâ—su_n as_o we_o say_v no_o man_n be_v in_o this_o journey_n till_o then_o david_n say_v he_o choose_v the_o way_n of_o god_n commandment_n that_o be_v there_o must_v be_v a_o choice_n for_o this_o must_v be_v a_o special_a consideration_n no_o man_n have_v this_o without_o choice_n and_o not_o only_o so_o that_o be_v not_o only_o mean_v to_o take_v it_o into_o commandment_n so_o that_o that_o be_v to_o be_v observe_v that_o this_o be_v a_o straight_a way_n and_o therefore_o see_v this_o lead_v straight_o to_o happiness_n every_o declination_n be_v a_o step_v out_o to_o misery_n you_o have_v reason_n to_o take_v it_o for_o it_o be_v the_o short_a way_n that_o be_v one_o condition_n you_o have_v two_o motive_n to_o take_v this_o way_n one_o be_v near_o it_o be_v the_o short_a way_n the_o other_o be_v it_o be_v the_o plain_a way_n we_o have_v a_o rule_n in_o the_o mathematics_n always_o the_o straight_a line_n be_v the_o short_a look_v how_o his_o own_o action_n and_o enterprise_n 1_o cor._n 3._o he_o catch_v the_o crafty_a that_o be_v if_o a_o man_n will_v go_v out_o of_o the_o way_n of_o god_n commandment_n by_o any_o carnal_a policy_n wisdom_n and_o policy_n and_o step_n out_o of_o god_n way_n though_o he_o think_v that_o the_o near_a way_n yet_o he_o shall_v find_v that_o he_o go_v about_o let_v a_o man_n think_v with_o himself_o by_o decline_v i_o may_v escape_v such_o a_o trouble_n such_o a_o strait_n such_o a_o disadvantage_n that_o will_v befall_v other_o man_n perhaps_o thou_o may_v but_o yet_o i_o say_v thou_o go_v be_v sanctify_v throughout_o in_o body_n soul_n and_o spirit_n i_o say_v when_o a_o man_n shall_v find_v every_o thing_n within_o he_o ready_a to_o praise_v the_o lord_n and_o to_o look_v towards_o it_o may_v be_v it_o be_v misplace_v though_o many_o other_o thing_n may_v be_v right_a in_o he_o he_o love_v riches_n he_o love_v credit_n he_o love_v reputation_n he_o love_v his_o ease_n and_o conveniency_n his_o practice_n and_o employment_n so_o that_o if_o god_n and_o these_o shall_v come_v in_o competition_n he_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o violate_v his_o conscience_n towards_o he_o rather_o than_o to_o part_v with_o these_o and_o so_o his_o grief_n that_o be_v not_o principal_o for_o sin_n there_o be_v somewhat_o or_o other_o that_o you_o shall_v find_v he_o fail_v in_o there_o by_o one_o within_o himself_o as_o paul_n say_v i_o live_v by_o jesus_n christ_n that_o be_v he_o be_v without_o i_o and_o it_o be_v he_o still_o that_o give_v i_o strength_n therefore_o go_v to_o he_o if_o you_o ask_v the_o reason_n why_o will_v the_o lord_n have_v it_o so_o why_o may_v not_o a_o man_n have_v a_o sufficient_a habitual_a strength_n in_o himself_o by_o which_o he_o may_v be_v able_a to_o out-wrestle_a lust_n and_o to_o overcome_v temptation_n the_o reason_n be_v because_o no_o flesh_n shall_v rejoice_v in_o itself_o and_o therefore_o christ_n be_v make_v sanctification_n that_o be_v you_o derive_v it_o from_o he_o from_o day_n to_o day_n from_o time_n to_o time_n that_o you_o may_v not_o rejoice_v in_o yourselves_o but_o in_o he_o therefore_o let_v no_o man_n go_v god_n have_v promise_v to_o be_v a_o buckler_n to_o shield_v he_o and_o to_o defend_v he_o from_o it_o put_v the_o case_n thou_o lie_v under_o any_o pressure_n any_o calamity_n any_o cross_n any_o disease_n any_o affliction_n of_o mind_n or_o of_o body_n or_o estate_n or_o of_o name_n why_o go_v to_o god_n now_o and_o tell_v he_o it_o be_v a_o part_n of_o his_o covenant_n to_o deliver_v thou_o and_o labour_n to_o find_v out_o if_o thou_o can_v beside_o the_o general_a covenant_n some_o particular_a the_o lord_n have_v say_v if_o thou_o be_v in_o trouble_n call_v upon_o i_o and_o i_o will_v deliver_v thou_o if_o thou_o be_v in_o a_o strait_a in_o extremity_n the_o lord_n have_v say_v he_o will_v work_v thy_o work_n for_o thou_o and_o so_o yoâ—_n may_v go_v to_o he_o in_o particular_n with_o he_o after_o that_o manner_n deal_v thou_o with_o the_o promise_n for_o they_o be_v rich_a there_o be_v a_o price_n in_o they_o be_v thou_o as_o a_o extortioner_n to_o they_o take_v out_o they_o always_o to_o lie_v upon_o the_o godly_a he_o will_v not_o suffer_v a_o temptation_n of_o affliction_n he_o will_v not_o suffer_v the_o rod_n of_o the_o wicked_a to_o lie_v always_o upon_o he_o it_o may_v for_o a_o time_n and_o he_o may_v for_o a_o fit_a put_v out_o his_o hand_n to_o wickedness_n he_o may_v upon_o some_o exigent_n upon_o a_o sudden_a when_o he_o be_v put_v to_o it_o upon_o see_v that_o may_v come_v to_o pass_v for_o a_o few_o step_n for_o part_n of_o the_o journey_n a_o evil_a man_n may_v go_v right_a and_o a_o good_a man_n may_v swerve_v from_o the_o straight_a way_n therefore_o let_v we_o neither_o judge_n ourselves_o nor_o other_o by_o it_o for_o if_o we_o shall_v we_o shall_v justify_v the_o wicked_a and_o condemn_v the_o generation_n of_o the_o just_a so_o a_o perfect_a seed_n when_o it_o be_v ripe_a it_o will_v be_v a_o perfect_a flower_n or_o it_o be_v a_o perfect_a plant_n when_o it_o grow_v up_o it_o will_v be_v a_o perfect_a tree_n it_o be_v perfect_a in_o all_o respect_n such_o a_o perfection_n be_v in_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n and_o if_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n be_v not_o entire_a if_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n be_v not_o throughout_o if_o there_o be_v a_o defect_n in_o the_o principle_n and_o constitution_n of_o it_o there_o shall_v be_v a_o defect_n in_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n that_o can_v be_v three_o if_o there_o be_v not_o a_o perfectness_n of_o heart_n wrought_v in_o all_o those_o that_o shall_v be_v save_v the_o command_n of_o the_o gospel_n shall_v be_v command_n of_o impossibility_n for_o the_o gospel_n require_v at_o our_o hand_n that_o we_o shall_v have_v respect_n to_o all_o the_o commandment_n that_o we_o shall_v keep_v the_o whole_a law_n in_o a_o
evangelicall_n manner_n that_o be_v in_o a_o true_a endeavour_n the_o gospel_n require_v that_o we_o shall_v love_v the_o lord_n our_o god_n with_o all_o our_o heart_n for_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o it_o require_v in_o a_o word_n that_o we_o shall_v keep_v the_o whole_a law_n in_o that_o sense_n so_o as_o to_o square_v our_o life_n to_o it_o to_o keep_v it_o all_o in_o truth_n and_o sincerity_n though_o we_o can_v reach_v the_o high_a top_n and_o degree_n of_o it_o now_o if_o the_o heart_n be_v not_o perfect_o holy_a that_o be_v thoughout_n there_o can_v be_v no_o proportion_n between_o the_o commandment_n and_o the_o faculty_n and_o ability_n upon_o which_o the_o commandment_n lie_v for_o it_o be_v certain_a except_o the_o heart_n be_v perfect_o holy_a it_o can_v not_o keep_v the_o with_o they_o that_o walk_v perfect_o with_o i_o there_o be_v the_o term_n of_o the_o covenant_n the_o lord_n will_v have_v it_o thus_o far_o upon_o even_a term_n there_o shall_v be_v a_o integrity_n on_o both_o side_n and_o therefore_o if_o a_o man_n be_v holy_a but_o by_o half_n that_o make_v not_o the_o match_n it_o make_v not_o the_o agreement_n between_o the_o lord_n and_o we_o for_o all_o and_o half_o be_v not_o a_o match_n but_o all_o and_o all_o be_v that_o which_o make_v the_o match_n the_o agreement_n and_o suitableness_n between_o god_n and_o we_o and_o this_o be_v another_o reason_n why_o it_o be_v require_v now_o last_o of_o all_o this_o perfection_n and_o integrity_n be_v require_v because_o otherwise_o all_o that_o we_o do_v be_v nothing_o it_o be_v to_o no_o
