of_o the_o scripture_n shall_v deserve_v the_o honourable_a name_n of_o preach_v when_o as_o both_o our_o common_a speech_n 〈◊〉_d and_o which_o be_v more_o the_o language_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n have_v put_v a_o apparent_a difference_n betwixt_o they_o nymph_n indeed_o i_o acknowledge_v that_o to_o be_v true_a out_o of_o my_o own_o experience_n for_o though_o by_o private_a read_v the_o scripture_n as_o also_o by_o hear_v it_o read_v i_o have_v receive_v much_o comfort_n the_o memory_n of_o thing_n teach_v thereby_o renew_v and_o the_o truth_n of_o they_o confirm_v yet_o i_o have_v often_o be_v quite_o set_v often_o be_v altogether_o mistake_v and_o still_o afraid_a of_o my_o own_o judgement_n even_o in_o plain_a place_n until_o i_o have_v find_v the_o public_a exposition_n give_v by_o the_o minister_n to_o jump_v and_o accord_n with_o my_o opinion_n but_o what_o say_v you_o to_o the_o second_o reason_n namely_o that_o in_o the_o scripture_n read_v we_o hear_v the_o worthy_a sermon_n of_o christ_n of_o the_o prophet_n and_o of_o his_o apostle_n and_o therefore_o read_v be_v preach_v epaph._n i_o say_v it_o be_v a_o very_a weak_a argument_n that_o the_o sermon_n of_o christ_n the_o prophet_n and_o apostle_n be_v excellent_a sermon_n and_o that_o the_o sum_n &_o abridgement_n of_o they_o be_v to_o be_v find_v in_o scripture_n no_o man_n go_v about_o to_o deny_v yet_o this_o be_v grant_v will_v never_o prove_v a_o reader_n to_o be_v a_o preacher_n for_o he_o be_v not_o a_o preacher_n who_o recite_v public_o thing_n of_o another_o man_n indite_v but_o he_o which_o deliver_v matter_n though_o not_o invent_v yet_o in_o respect_n of_o art_n and_o industry_n compile_v and_o frame_v by_o himself_o if_o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o sermon_n of_o christ_n etc._n etc._n though_o they_o be_v not_o of_o his_o frame_n that_o read_v they_o yet_o be_v read_v may_v turn_v to_o the_o profit_n of_o the_o people_n i_o answer_v that_o the_o question_n be_v not_o whether_o they_o may_v be_v profitable_a but_o whether_o the_o read_n of_o they_o may_v be_v call_v preach_v god_n forbid_v any_o man_n shall_v deny_v the_o public_a read_n of_o they_o to_o be_v for_o the_o behoof_n of_o god_n people_n i_o hope_v you_o have_v not_o forget_v what_o i_o tell_v you_o as_o my_o judgement_n in_o this_o case_n but_o how_o it_o may_v be_v say_v that_o he_o which_o have_v read_v they_o to_o the_o people_n have_v perform_v that_o office_n of_o a_o minister_n which_o we_o call_v preach_v neither_o can_v i_o conceive_v neither_o as_o i_o think_v be_v any_o man_n able_a to_o set_v down_o beside_o if_o the_o word_n sermon_n shall_v be_v precise_o urge_v that_o which_o be_v the_o sermon_n of_o christ_n or_o jeremiah_n or_o paul_n when_o they_o live_v and_o the_o same_o utter_v by_o they_o can_v be_v now_o be_v record_v in_o the_o bible_n and_o read_v out_o by_o another_o so_o proper_o call_v a_o sermon_n because_o in_o our_o common_a speech_n a_o sermon_n require_v the_o tongue_n and_o voice_n of_o he_o that_o frame_v it_o and_o therefore_o to_o say_v as_o some_o do_v that_o christ_n or_o some_o one_o of_o the_o ancient_a prophet_n or_o apostle_n preach_v to_o we_o when_o we_o hear_v the_o sum_n of_o their_o sermon_n read_v unto_o we_o be_v but_o a_o borrow_a kind_n of_o speech_n usual_a among_o scholar_n such_o as_o that_o be_v 11.4_o that_o the_o blood_n of_o abel_n speak_v and_o that_o he_o be_v dead_a yet_o speak_v 19.1.3_o or_o which_o be_v say_v of_o the_o heaven_n and_o firmament_n that_o there_o be_v no_o speech_n nor_o language_n where_o their_o voice_n be_v not_o hear_v and_o the_o like_a common_a in_o the_o scripture_n again_o let_v the_o nature_n and_o estate_n of_o those_o which_o be_v call_v the_o sermon_n of_o the_o prophet_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n be_v a_o little_a consider_v first_o in_o general_a this_o be_v to_o be_v know_v that_o we_o have_v but_o the_o brief_a and_o sum_n and_o as_o it_o be_v the_o head_n of_o their_o sermon_n relate_v in_o the_o scripture_n for_o if_o all_o that_o every_o one_o of_o these_o speak_v public_o by_o way_n of_o teach_v have_v be_v write_v we_o may_v well_o say_v as_o s._n john_n say_v 21.25_o touch_v the_o â—as_n and_o say_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n the_o world_n can_v not_o contain_v the_o book_n and_o therefore_o if_o profit_n be_v desire_v there_o must_v necessary_o be_v some_o course_n take_v by_o which_o the_o thing_n abridge_v by_o the_o penman_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o their_o write_n may_v be_v enlarge_v second_o the_o sermon_n of_o moses_n be_v so_o interlace_v with_o judicial_a ordinance_n and_o ceremonial_a rite_n appertain_v only_o to_o the_o policy_n of_o those_o time_n that_o for_o the_o people_n behoof_n it_o be_v more_o than_o convenient_a that_o they_o shall_v enjoy_v the_o benefit_n of_o a_o able_a minister_n who_o may_v inform_v they_o herein_o what_o thing_n be_v moral_a and_o what_o be_v temporary_a what_o be_v the_o substance_n of_o every_o ceremonial_a shadow_n and_o what_o the_o perpetual_a and_o unchangeable_a equity_n of_o every_o judicial_a constitution_n three_o touch_v the_o preach_n of_o the_o prophet_n though_o they_o be_v full_a of_o comfort_n and_o abound_v with_o sweet_a consolation_n because_o the_o main_a scope_n and_o drift_n of_o they_o all_o be_v to_o foreshow_v the_o renew_n and_o restore_v of_o the_o church_n by_o christ_n and_o though_o they_o do_v also_o notable_o make_v know_v the_o just_a judgement_n of_o god_n against_o sin_n yet_o they_o be_v so_o intermix_v with_o mystical_a prophecy_n with_o hide_a parable_n with_o historical_a narration_n and_o description_n of_o country_n with_o borrow_a speech_n and_o propriety_n of_o that_o holy_a language_n in_o which_o they_o be_v deliver_v that_o howsoever_o sometime_o a_o lamb_n as_o the_o proverb_n be_v may_v find_v a_o ford_n easy_o to_o be_v wade_v through_o yet_o unless_o there_o be_v add_v the_o help_n and_o
