abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n math_n 8.11_o 12_o because_o they_o be_v follower_n of_o these_o patriarch_n in_o the_o faith_n when_o as_o the_o child_n of_o the_o kingdom_n that_o be_v many_o jew_n by_o birth_n bear_v in_o the_o church_n shall_v be_v cast_v into_o utter_a darkness_n now_o if_o christ_n deny_v to_o glorify_v the_o child_n and_o posterity_n of_o of_o judgement_n or_o reformation_n of_o life_n but_o it_o be_v a_o hard_a thing_n to_o do_v and_o rare_a to_o find_v a_o man_n that_o do_v sincere_o apply_v unto_o himself_o either_o general_a doctrine_n or_o particular_a example_n we_o be_v all_o prone_a to_o shift_v it_o from_o ourselves_o and_o to_o lay_v it_o upon_o other_o say_v this_o be_v a_o good_a item_n or_o a_o good_a lesson_n for_o such_o a_o one_o or_o such_o a_o one_o if_o he_o be_v here_o or_o if_o he_o will_v mark_v it_o in_o the_o mean_a while_n what_o benefit_n reap_v we_o to_o our_o own_o soul_n for_o the_o word_n not_o apply_v to_o ourselves_o do_v we_o no_o good_a it_o be_v like_a physic_n not_o take_v or_o food_n not_o eat_v and_o hence_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o though_o we_o hear_v much_o yet_o we_o profit_v little_a by_o the_o ministry_n of_o god_n word_n we_o must_v therefore_o learn_v to_o follow_v mary_n example_n who_o ponder_v christ_n word_n and_o lay_v they_o up_o in_o she_o own_o heart_n such_o and_o indeed_o satan_n by_o his_o good_a will_n will_v never_o have_v a_o man_n to_o apply_v the_o word_n right_o to_o himself_o therefore_o see_v satan_n be_v so_o busy_a and_o this_o be_v his_o deceit_n to_o make_v a_o man_n shift_v off_o a_o exhortation_n or_o reproof_n from_o himself_o and_o to_o lay_v it_o on_o other_o we_o must_v be_v as_o careful_a to_o apply_v it_o to_o
own_o strength_n but_o when_o we_o be_v assault_v by_o the_o devil_n the_o world_n and_o our_o own_o flesh_n then_o we_o shall_v find_v that_o to_o resist_v be_v a_o hard_a matter_n than_o we_o dream_v of_o for_o as_o possible_a as_o it_o be_v for_o water_n to_o burn_v or_o fire_n to_o put_v out_o itself_o so_o possible_a be_v it_o for_o we_o of_o ourselves_o to_o resist_v sin_n insomuch_o as_o it_o be_v a_o thousand_o to_o one_o but_o that_o at_o every_o assault_n our_o nature_n yield_v now_o if_o it_o be_v so_o hard_a to_o rule_v over_o one_o sin_n how_o shall_v we_o do_v against_o that_o sea_n of_o temptation_n that_o overwhelm_v a_o christian_a life_n this_o doctrine_n teach_v thou_o how_o namely_o to_o stick_v to_o thy_o faith_n and_o it_o will_v do_v it_o for_o thou_o for_o if_o it_o be_v the_o substance_n of_o the_o thing_n thou_o hope_v for_o which_o yet_o never_o be_v much_o more_o will_v it_o yield_v unto_o thou_o spiritual_a strength_n &_o substance_n to_o make_v thou_o stand_v in_o all_o temptation_n when_o thou_o be_v tempt_v then_o call_v to_o mind_n god_n promise_n believe_v they_o that_o be_v apply_v they_o to_o thyself_o and_o be_v resolve_v that_o they_o be_v make_v &_o shall_v be_v perform_v even_o to_o thou_o they_o though_o thou_o have_v no_o more_o power_n of_o thyself_o than_o fire_n have_v to_o cease_v to_o burn_v yet_o whilst_o thou_o do_v thus_o thou_o shall_v feel_v thy_o soul_n spiritual_o strengthen_v against_o all_o temptation_n &_o feel_v the_o experience_n of_o this_o deny_v they_o thy_o own_o strength_n &_o magnify_v the_o hand_n of_o the_o lord_n may_v be_v upon_o any_o of_o we_o in_o poverty_n sickness_n imprisonment_n banishment_n loss_n famine_n or_o how_o it_o please_v he_o how_o shall_v a_o poor_a christian_a stand_n and_o buckle_v himself_o to_o bear_v these_o i_o answer_v true_a save_a faith_n rest_v on_o the_o word_n of_o god_n &_o believe_v the_o promise_n not_o formal_o but_o true_o will_v put_v such_o substantial_a spiritual_a strength_n into_o he_o as_o that_o at_o first_o though_o he_o bow_v under_o it_o yet_o shall_v he_o be_v able_a to_o recover_v himself_o again_o &_o buckle_v himself_o to_o go_v forward_o in_o his_o profession_n &_o shall_v follow_v christ_n manful_o with_o this_o his_o cross_n this_o wonderful_a power_n have_v god_n give_v to_o save_v faith_n both_o to_o resist_v
