infinite_o perplex_v and_o torture_v the_o mind_n of_o christian_n if_o the_o opinion_n be_v grant_v and_o all_o these_o absurdity_n swallow_v by_o a_o wide_a and_o enormous_a faith_n yet_o be_v there_o no_o advantage_n of_o efficacy_n or_o comfort_n gain_v to_o the_o receiver_n by_o a_o gross_a and_o carnal_a eat_v and_o drink_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ._n iii_o if_o those_o which_o crucify_a he_o have_v do_v so_o or_o they_o who_o then_o believe_v in_o he_o when_o he_o be_v slay_v yet_o will_v they_o not_o any_o way_n have_v further_v their_o soul_n good_a and_o life_n which_o can_v no_o more_o be_v feed_v with_o carnal_a and_o sensible_a object_n than_o the_o body_n with_o light_n and_o truth_n which_o be_v of_o a_o spiritual_a nature_n nor_o do_v this_o first_o violent_a act_n of_o faith_n which_o they_o require_v of_o a_o receiver_n in_o believe_v the_o essential_a change_n of_o the_o bread_n and_o wine_n into_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n make_v a_o worthy_a receiver_n except_o his_o soul_n by_o a_o further_a act_n of_o faith_n apply_v the_o virtue_n and_o merit_n of_o christ_n death_n and_o passion_n which_o be_v do_v effectual_o without_o the_o thought_n of_o transubstantiation_n by_o that_o faith_n which_o we_o say_v be_v necessary_a for_o a_o worthy_a receiver_n which_o do_v as_o clear_o perceive_v and_o as_o real_o and_o blood_n of_o christ_n to_o the_o consecrate_a bread_n and_o wine_n i_o believe_v they_o to_o be_v most_o true_a in_o the_o sense_n and_o meaning_n of_o our_o saviour_n which_o sense_n i_o do_v not_o only_o guess_v at_o or_o implicit_o believe_v but_o easy_o and_o plain_o gather_v and_o understand_v by_o the_o like_a expression_n both_o of_o our_o saviour_n himself_o and_o the_o stile_n and_o phrase_n of_o the_o whole_a scripture_n which_o never_o make_v such_o substantial_a predication_n of_o one_o thing_n to_o be_v another_o by_o way_n of_o transmutation_n of_o one_o into_o the_o other_o but_o by_o allusion_n relation_n similitude_n proportion_n designation_n of_o use_n and_o sacramental_a union_n or_o application_n no_o more_o than_o the_o paschal_n lamb_n which_o be_v a_o type_n and_o sacrament_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o suffering_n be_v the_o very_a substance_n of_o christ_n or_o that_o rock_n on_o which_o st._n paul_n affirm_v it_o be_v christ_n or_o that_o christ_n be_v to_o be_v think_v a_o natural_a door_n way_n vine_n light_n etc._n etc._n all_o which_o he_o affirm_v to_o be_v himself_o by_o a_o like_a manner_n of_o speech_n or_o more_o near_a the_o cup_n the_o nature_n and_o capacity_n of_o the_o soul_n the_o dignity_n of_o chiristan_n religion_n and_o the_o sacred_a mystery_n the_o propriety_n of_o the_o object_n of_o faith_n and_o the_o stile_n and_o tenor_n of_o god_n word_n which_o never_o enjoin_v we_o any_o carnal_a thing_n horrible_a or_o inhuman_a for_o though_o the_o letter_n may_v sound_v so_o yet_o the_o figure_n in_o the_o word_n do_v relieve_v our_o faith_n and_o accommodate_v a_o fit_a and_o true_a meaning_n to_o such_o word_n and_o expression_n nothing_o be_v more_o usual_a than_o for_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n to_o set_v forth_o spiritual_a thing_n and_o duty_n by_o corporal_a notion_n vi_o so_o that_o as_o the_o bread_n and_o wine_n by_o their_o natural_a quality_n and_o virtue_n be_v fit_a to_o represent_v the_o spiritual_a efficacy_n of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n yet_o by_o a_o natural_a power_n be_v no_o whit_n able_a to_o impart_v to_o a_o communicant_a the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o which_o they_o can_v not_o be_v save_v viii_o neither_o to_o secure_a child_n of_o salvation_n in_o case_n they_o die_v before_o year_n of_o discretion_n need_v we_o resume_v the_o ancient_a but_o erroneous_a practice_n of_o the_o church_n now_o long_o since_o abolish_v by_o all_o side_n viz._n to_o put_v the_o eucharistical_a bread_n and_o wine_n into_o the_o mouth_n of_o infant_n which_o error_n spring_v from_o the_o gross_a and_o corporeal_a interpretation_n of_o our_o saviour_n word_n not_o consider_v that_o every_o believer_n either_o in_o the_o internal_a disposition_n which_o be_v secret_o wrought_v by_o the_o spirit_n sanctify_v power_n in_o baptism_n according_a to_o the_o capacity_n of_o the_o subject_a or_o in_o the_o real_a exercise_n and_o actuate_a of_o his_o faith_n which_o come_v by_o hear_v in_o his_o ripe_a year_n must_v necessary_o and_o do_v effectual_o and_o real_o eat_v and_o drink_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n to_o salvation_n though_o they_o never_o come_v to_o receive_v in_o the_o holy_a supper_n so_o that_o it_o be_v but_o one_o christ_n his_o body_n and_o blood_n the_o same_o crucify_a saviour_n which_o be_v receive_v in_o both_o sacrament_n and_o but_o one_o faith_n for_o the_o kind_n that_o lay_v hold_v and_o feed_v on_o christ_n in_o they_o all_o only_o it_o receive_v degree_n and_o addition_n of_o strength_n the_o other_o gross_a opinion_n do_v not_o imagine_v be_v to_o sense_n but_o to_o faith_n which_o perceive_v its_o object_n as_o real_o according_a to_o the_o manner_n of_o faith_n perception_n as_o the_o sense_n do_v they_o after_o their_o manner_n i_o believe_v therefore_o that_o in_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n there_o be_v both_o object_n present_v to_o and_o receive_v by_o a_o worthy_a receiver_n first_o the_o bread_n and_o wine_n in_o their_o own_o nature_n and_o substance_n distinct_a do_v remain_v as_o well_o as_o their_o accident_n which_o be_v the_o true_a object_n
