something_o of_o christ_n and_o therefore_o to_o apply_v this_o application_n brief_o first_o brethren_n o_o that_o we_o may_v take_v this_o woman_n for_o our_o pattern_n to_o follow_v after_o christ_n and_o find_v he_o out_o when_o he_o hide_v himself_o you_o that_o walk_v in_o darkness_n and_o see_v no_o light_n oh_o that_o you_o will_v look_v upon_o this_o woman_n and_o make_v she_o your_o pattern_n christ_n hide_v himself_o from_o she_o ah_o but_o she_o find_v he_o out_o and_o christ_n can_v not_o be_v hide_v one_o will_v have_v think_v it_o have_v be_v a_o bold_a part_n of_o woman_n behold_v a_o woman_n come_v second_o she_o be_v describe_v to_o be_v a_o canaanite_n a_o woman_n of_o canaan_n she_o be_v of_o the_o stock_n of_o the_o canaanite_n a_o curse_a nation_n cast_v out_o of_o the_o land_n for_o their_o abomination_n and_o their_o land_n give_v to_o israel_n for_o a_o possession_n and_o yet_o this_o woman_n though_o a_o canaanite_n come_v to_o christ_n three_o she_o be_v a_o canaanite_n it_o follow_v that_o before_o the_o lord_n reveal_v himself_o to_o she_o she_o be_v a_o very_a sinful_a woman_n so_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o canaanite_n be_v not_o only_o look_v not_o after_o the_o return_n of_o prayer_n they_o lose_v that_o which_o will_v make_v their_o soul_n rich_a for_o a_o merchant_n to_o lose_v all_o his_o return_n it_o will_v make_v he_o a_o poor_a tradesman_n in_o conclusion_n that_o soul_n that_o do_v not_o look_v after_o the_o return_n of_o prayer_n lose_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o faith_n and_o dependence_n and_o experience_n for_o god_n by_o give_v out_o a_o answer_n to_o the_o prayer_n of_o his_o people_n he_o do_v encourage_v they_o and_o engage_v they_o to_o trust_v in_o he_o at_o all_o time_n so_o long_o as_o they_o live_v they_o that_o lose_v the_o return_n of_o prayer_n lose_v the_o strengthen_n of_o faith_n and_o the_o engage_v of_o their_o heart_n to_o god_n but_o second_o let_v i_o speak_v to_o such_o poor_a soul_n as_o be_v in_o the_o same_o condition_n with_o this_o woman_n of_o canaan_n that_o have_v pray_v and_o have_v not_o meet_v with_o one_o word_n of_o answer_n poor_a soul_n be_v this_o the_o condition_n of_o any_o of_o you_o i_o know_v that_o it_o have_v be_v and_o may_v still_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o lord_n dear_a servant_n they_o may_v pray_v and_o the_o lord_n may_v seem_v to_o give_v no_o answer_n remember_v it_o be_v so_o with_o david_n jeremiah_n and_o habakkuk_n and_o with_o christ_n himself_o and_o let_v i_o say_v this_o unto_o thou_o that_o if_o thou_o regard_v any_o iniquity_n in_o thy_o heart_n any_o know_a sin_n that_o thou_o regard_v or_o connive_v at_o or_o if_o there_o be_v slightness_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o thy_o duty_n or_o content_a thyself_o with_o a_o slothful_a performance_n of_o thy_o duty_n or_o thou_o do_v not_o regard_v thy_o prayer_n when_o thou_o have_v put_v it_o up_o to_o the_o lord_n for_o this_o we_o have_v cause_n to_o be_v humble_v and_o no_o wonder_n the_o lord_n do_v not_o answer_v our_o prayer_n but_o now_o if_o thy_o own_o spirit_n and_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n can_v testify_v that_o thou_o desire_v to_o regard_v no_o iniquity_n in_o thy_o heart_n but_o to_o walk_v up_o to_o thy_o duty_n and_o desire_v to_o be_v conformable_a to_o christ_n and_o desire_v to_o cry_v in_o faith_n and_o to_o wait_v upon_o the_o lord_n for_o a_o answer_n be_v of_o good_a comfort_n

to_o god_n when_o you_o be_v tempt_v about_o election_n thus_o worship_v he_o and_o second_o worship_v he_o with_o external_n worship_n there_o be_v two_o principal_a part_n of_o this_o worship_n that_o will_v tend_v to_o the_o silence_v of_o all_o temptation_n about_o election_n the_o first_o be_v prayer_n the_o second_o be_v thanksgiving_n when_o you_o be_v tempt_v about_o election_n or_o doubt_v of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n fall_v to_o prayer_n go_v and_o pour_v out_o a_o cry_n before_o the_o lord_n go_v and_o lament_v after_o he_o and_o say_v though_o i_o do_v not_o know_v whether_o in_o such_o a_o supplication_n as_o be_v send_v up_o with_o a_o holy_a fervency_n unto_o god_n and_o indeed_o the_o lord_n bring_v his_o people_n into_o the_o furnace_n of_o affliction_n and_o temptation_n that_o so_o he_o may_v kindle_v this_o holy_a fire_n of_o zeal_n and_o fervency_n in_o their_o bosom_n the_o lord_n do_v raise_v the_o storm_n that_o so_o he_o may_v make_v the_o disciple_n to_o cry_v the_o loud_o now_o therefore_o when_o the_o spirit_n be_v thus_o carry_v out_o to_o god_n this_o be_v such_o worship_n as_o he_o require_v and_o expect_v again_o three_o we_o shall_v find_v that_o this_o woman_n supplication_n it_o be_v accompany_v with_o faith_n fervency_n without_o faith_n can_v not_o avail_v but_o there_o be_v a_o expression_n of_o her_o faith_n that_o save_v the_o sick_a the_o prayer_n of_o faith_n can_v do_v great_a thing_n four_o this_o woman_n prayer_n be_v accompany_v with_o constancy_n she_o hold_v on_o notwithstanding_o the_o discouragement_n his_o people_n in_o the_o time_n of_o affliction_n or_o temptation_n first_o she_o do_v exalt_v he_o she_o speak_v to_o his_o honour_n thou_o be_v the_o lord_n whatever_o i_o be_v though_o i_o be_v a_o poor_a vile_a creature_n as_o she_o acknowledge_v afterward_o when_o christ_n convert_v she_o yet_o thou_o be_v the_o lord_n nay_o though_o christ_n shall_v debase_v she_o yet_o she_o will_v that_o it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o the_o saint_n thus_o to_o worship_n whatever_o the_o affliction_n or_o the_o temptation_n be_v and_o that_o both_o with_o internal_a worship_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o with_o external_n worship_n speak_v good_a word_n unto_o god_n and_o of_o god_n thus_o it_o be_v with_o job_n job_n look_v into_o job_n 1._o 20_o 21._o then_o job_n arise_v and_o rend_v his_o mantle_n and_o shave_v his_o head_n and_o fall_v down_o upon_o the_o ground_n and_o worship_v and_o say_v naked_a come_v i_o out_o of_o my_o mother_n womb_n and_o naked_a shall_v i_o return_v and_o temptation_n david_n and_o yet_o you_o shall_v find_v he_o worship_v in_o divers_a of_o his_o psalm_n jonah_n yea_o look_v upon_o jonah_n and_o take_v jonah_n for_o a_o instance_n and_o o_o that_o god_n will_v make_v these_o his_o saint_n pattern_n to_o we_o jonah_n 2._o 2_o 3_o 4._o he_o be_v in_o a_o sad_a affliction_n and_o his_o affliction_n be_v accompany_v with_o temptation_n he_o be_v as_o low_a in_o his_o own_o imagination_n as_o if_o he_o have_v be_v in_o the_o belly_n of_o hell_n and_o yet_o even_o then_o when_o in_o the_o whale_n belly_n in_o the_o depth_n of_o affliction_n and_o compass_v round_o about_o with_o sore_a temptation_n then_o jonah_n worship_v the_o lord_n vers_n 4._o then_o i_o say_v i_o be_o cast_v out_o of_o thy_o sight_n yet_o i_o will_v look_v again_o towards_o thy_o holy_a temple_n i_o say_v i_o be_v cast_v out_o of_o thy_o sight_n there_o be_v a_o temptation_n of_o distrust_n when_o in_o that_o sad_a condition_n in_o the_o bottom_n in_o my_o place_n and_o will_v bring_v forth_o more_o fruit_n upon_o this_o many_o a_o poor_a soul_n hasten_v to_o the_o grave_n this_o be_v matter_n of_o temptation_n and_o it_o be_v ground_v upon_o this_o a_o man_n own_o unworthiness_n and_o unusefulness_n and_o unserviceableness_n to_o christ_n in_o his_o generation_n quest_n but_o you_o will_v say_v wherefore_o do_v the_o lord_n suffer_v his_o people_n to_o be_v tempt_v thus_o about_o their_o unworthiness_n answ_n why_o the_o lord_n he_o have_v gracious_a end_n satan_n who_o help_v on_o this_o temptation_n many_o time_n he_o have_v destructive_a end_n but_o god_n in_o suffer_v of_o it_o he_o have_v gracious_a end_n what_o be_v god_n end_n first_o unworthiness_n god_n will_v teach_v we_o to_o learn_v this_o lesson_n that_o the_o love_n of_o god_n go_v not_o by_o the_o worthiness_n of_o the_o creature_n therefore_o god_n he_o suffer_v we_o many_o time_n to_o be_v bow_v down_o by_o look_v upon_o our_o unworthiness_n even_o to_o be_v there_o in_o such_o a_o woman_n that_o be_v lovely_a or_o desirable_a the_o woman_n of_o whoredom_n no_o more_o worthiness_n in_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n neither_o be_v there_o in_o any_o soul_n and_o god_n will_v have_v we_o learn_v this_o and_o if_o we_o will_v not_o learn_v it_o he_o will_v suffer_v we_o to_o be_v carry_v into_o the_o school_n of_o temptation_n to_o learn_v we_o of_o adam_n have_v imitate_v their_o father_n in_o this_o man_n desire_n and_o seek_v to_o have_v his_o worthiness_n at_o home_n in_o himself_o and_o he_o be_v loath_a to_o go_v out_o for_o it_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o hard_a matter_n in_o the_o world_n to_o bring_v man_n to_o submit_v to_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n corrupt_a nature_n and_o carnal_a reason_n as_o it_o be_v corrupt_v teach_v man_n to_o look_v to_o their_o own_o righteousness_n philosopher_n teach_v man_n that_o man_n need_v not_o to_o go_v out_o of_o themselves_o to_o make_v themselves_o happy_a for_o a_o man_n have_v all_o blessing_n in_o himself_o and_o he_o need_v not_o to_o go_v out_o of_o himself_o but_o christ_n teach_v another_o lesson_n if_o ever_o man_n will_v be_v happy_a he_o
