no_o fruit_n of_o faith_n repentance_n etc._n etc._n which_o show_v the_o misery_n of_o such_o people_n who_o live_v without_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n 2._o as_o it_o be_v in_o sow_a seed_n if_o it_o be_v too_o thin_a and_o spare_o sow_v there_o be_v likely_a to_o be_v a_o thin_a and_o spare_a crop_n as_o on_o the_o other_o side_n where_o the_o seed_n be_v sow_v with_o a_o full_a hand_n the_o harvest_n be_v like_a to_o be_v the_o more_o full_a and_o plentiful_a so_o it_o be_v in_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n where_o this_o seed_n be_v thin_a sow_v that_o be_v the_o word_n be_v seldom_o preach_v there_o small_a fruit_n be_v to_o be_v expect_v and_o on_o the_o contrary_a where_o it_o be_v more_o frequent_o and_o often_o preach_v
teach_n use_v use_v this_o show_v that_o they_o never_o true_o taste_v the_o heavenly_a virtue_n and_o sweetness_n of_o the_o word_n of_o christ_n in_o their_o own_o soul_n and_o conscience_n who_o this_o sacrament_n in_o respect_n of_o ourselves_o and_o it_o must_v move_v we_o to_o make_v great_a account_n of_o it_o if_o our_o saviour_n christ_n who_o have_v no_o sin_n do_v desire_n to_o be_v baptize_v for_o our_o sake_n much_o more_o ought_v we_o that_o be_v sinful_a to_o desire_v baptism_n for_o ourselves_o that_o it_o may_v be_v a_o mean_n for_o the_o purge_n of_o we_o from_o sin_n act._n 8._o 36._o here_o than_o parent_n be_v to_o be_v admonish_v of_o that_o care_n which_o shall_v be_v in_o they_o to_o desire_v and_o crave_v the_o sacrament_n of_o baptism_n for_o their_o the_o corrupt_a humour_n of_o melancholy_n for_o it_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o such_o melancholic_a disease_n to_o distemper_v the_o mind_n and_o outward_a sense_n and_o so_o to_o cause_v many_o false_a and_o vain_a imagination_n to_o arise_v in_o the_o mind_n of_o such_o as_o be_v so_o distemper_v hence_o it_o be_v that_o sometime_o they_o be_v false_o persuade_v that_o they_o see_v such_o apparition_n of_o satan_n when_o indeed_o they_o do_v not_o see_v they_o here_o then_o let_v we_o learn_v not_o to_o give_v too_o much_o credit_n to_o our_o mind_n and_o outward_a sense_n if_o at_o any_o time_n they_o persuade_v we_o that_o we_o see_v such_o apparition_n of_o satan_n especial_o at_o such_o time_n as_o our_o mind_n and_o sense_n be_v distemper_v with_o fear_n or_o with_o some_o bodily_a disease_n or_o otherwise_o for_o although_o it_o be_v not_o impossible_a for_o the_o devil_n so_o to_o appear_v to_o we_o in_o visible_a shape_n if_o god_n suffer_v he_o as_o have_v be_v we_o to_o think_v we_o see_v or_o hear_v that_o which_o we_o do_v not_o see_v or_o hear_v etc._n etc._n observe_v 4_o observe_v 4._o in_o that_o the_o disciple_n eye_n be_v blind_v with_o the_o the_o eye_n of_o their_o mind_n blind_v with_o ignorance_n that_o they_o do_v not_o know_v christ_n or_o understand_v the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o gospel_n such_o person_n run_v into_o every_o one_o have_v his_o peculiar_a cup_n and_o portion_n of_o wine_n allot_v unto_o he_o so_o then_o our_o saviour_n meaning_n here_o be_v this_o q._n d._n can_v you_o drink_v of_o the_o cup_n etc._n etc._n that_o be_v be_v you_o able_a or_o fit_a to_o suffer_v the_o same_o or_o the_o like_a portion_n and_o measure_n of_o affliction_n and_o misery_n which_o i_o be_o short_o to_o suffer_v for_o you_o and_o for_o the_o rest_n of_o mankind_n and_o that_o by_o the_o appointment_n of_o god_n my_o heavenly_a father_n and_o be_v baptise_a with_o the_o baptism_n etc._n etc._n our_o saviour_n do_v not_o here_o speak_v of_o the_o sacrament_n of_o baptism_n which_o he_o have_v former_o receive_v at_o the_o hand_n of_o john_n the_o baptist_n matth._n 3._o but_o he_o speak_v still_o of_o his_o passion_n and_o suffering_n which_o be_v to_o come_v as_o he_o do_v in_o the_o former_a word_n and_o here_o he_o use_v another_o metaphor_n to_o express_v his_o passion_n or_o suffering_n in_o that_o he_o compare_v it_o unto_o a_o baptism_n so_o luke_n 12._o 50._o for_o conceive_v whereof_o we_o must_v know_v that_o the_o word_n baptism_n or_o baptise_v do_v proper_o signify_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o dip_v or_o drench_a in_o water_n whence_o it_o be_v in_o scripture_n use_v not_o only_o to_o signify_v that_o special_a kind_n of_o dip_v or_o drench_a of_o the_o body_n in_o water_n which_o the_o certainty_n of_o his_o passion_n and_o that_o the_o time_n be_v at_o hand_n quest_n quest_n why_o do_v our_o saviour_n demand_v this_o question_n of_o his_o two_o disciple_n whether_o they_o be_v able_a to_o partake_v with_o he_o in_o the_o same_o or_o like_a affliction_n which_o he_o be_v to_o suffer_v answ_n answ_n 1._o to_o reprove_v and_o correct_v their_o ambition_n and_o desire_v of_o high_a honour_n and_o preferment_n by_o put_v they_o in_o mind_n of_o abasement_n and_o of_o suffer_a affliction_n with_o he_o 2._o to_o humble_v they_o in_o regard_n of_o their_o weakness_n and_o unability_n of_o themselves_o to_o suffer_v the_o cross_n therefore_o he_o ask_v they_o whether_o they_o be_v able_a to_o drink_v of_o the_o cup_n etc._n etc._n 3._o to_o convince_v their_o folly_n and_o rashness_n in_o that_o they_o dream_v of_o be_v honour_v with_o christ_n before_o they_o have_v suffer_v with_o he_o observe_v 1_o observe_v 1._o one_o good_a remedy_n or_o mean_n to_o keep_v we_o from_o the_o sin_n of_o ambition_n and_o inordinate_a desire_n of_o worldly_a honour_n and_o greatness_n be_v to_o meditate_v and_o think_v before_o hand_n of_o the_o cross_n and_o affliction_n which_o we_o must_v make_v account_n to_o suffer_v in_o our_o christian_a course_n and_o to_o make_v it_o present_a to_o we_o before_o it_o come_v therefore_o our_o saviour_n here_o when_o his_o disciple_n show_v their_o ambition_n in_o desire_v to_o sit_v at_o his_o right_n and_o left_a hand_n etc._n etc._n he_o present_o to_o correct_v and_o cure_v this_o fault_n in_o they_o put_v they_o in_o mind_n of_o suffer_v with_o he_o etc._n etc._n can_v you_o drink_v of_o the_o cup_n etc._n etc._n reason_n reas_n meditation_n of_o the_o cross_n be_v a_o mean_n to_o mortify_v pride_n and_o to_o humble_v we_o etc._n etc._n which_o shall_v therefore_o move_v we_o often_o to_o meditate_v and_o think_v of_o the_o cross_n and_o trouble_n that_o be_v to_o come_v that_o this_o may_v be_v a_o mean_n to_o humble_v we_o and_o to_o keep_v we_o from_o ambitious_a seek_v and_o aspire_v after_o worldly_a honour_n and_o greatness_n especial_o in_o these_o evil_a and_o dangerous_a time_n of_o the_o church_n in_o the_o which_o there_o be_v so_o great_a cause_n for_o we_o to_o expect_v and_o look_v for_o trouble_n and_o affliction_n to_o come_v consider_v how_o
