expostulation_n with_o god_n for_o continue_v life_n to_o those_o that_o be_v in_o such_o misery_n that_o they_o have_v rather_o die_v then_o live_v but_o doubtless_o though_o the_o extremity_n of_o his_o misery_n wring_v these_o word_n from_o he_o yet_o he_o do_v not_o utter_v they_o with_o a_o purpose_n to_o contend_v with_o god_n and_o to_o charge_v he_o with_o deal_v too_o hardly_o with_o vers_fw-la 25_o 26._o the_o thing_n which_o i_o great_o fear_v be_v come_v upon_o i_o yet_o his_o misery_n be_v so_o grievous_a and_o continual_a without_o intermission_n that_o he_o have_v not_o so_o understand_v this_o of_o his_o sigh_v because_o of_o the_o pain_n it_o will_v be_v to_o he_o to_o eat_v in_o regard_n of_o his_o ulcer_n wherewith_o he_o be_v every_o where_o fill_v or_o because_o it_o grieve_v he_o to_o think_v that_o he_o must_v by_o feed_v uphold_v the_o life_n which_o he_o will_v so_o glad_o be_v rid_v of_o but_o the_o first_o exposition_n be_v far_o the_o most_o proper_a and_o my_o roar_n be_v pour_v out_o like_o the_o water_n that_o be_v violent_o abundant_o and_o without_o cease_v for_o he_o compare_v his_o roar_n to_o the_o pour_v out_o of_o water_n 1._o because_o when_o water_n be_v pour_v forth_o or_o break_v through_o the_o bank_n that_o before_o hold_v they_o in_o they_o rush_v out_o in_o great_a abundance_n and_o with_o unresistable_a violence_n 2._o because_o the_o water_n of_o river_n flow_v on_o continual_o without_o cease_v as_o be_v still_o supply_v from_o their_o fountain_n and_o spring_n and_o 3._o because_o the_o noise_n of_o his_o roar_n by_o reason_n of_o their_o violence_n be_v much_o like_a that_o of_o water_n where_o they_o break_v forth_o with_o such_o fury_n and_o carry_v all_o before_o they_o that_o stand_v in_o their_o way_n it_o must_v be_v a_o great_a affliction_n that_o can_v make_v a_o man_n of_o spirit_n to_o mourn_v and_o therefore_o much_o more_o that_o which_o make_v he_o cry_v out_o and_o roar_v &_o therefore_o be_v able_a to_o comprehend_v only_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n be_v incomprehensible_a as_o for_o the_o follow_a clause_n the_o stone_n of_o darkness_n and_o the_o shadow_n of_o death_n thereby_o be_v mean_v either_o those_o gem_n and_o precious_a stone_n which_o be_v indeed_o of_o all_o other_o thing_n most_o high_o prize_v and_o therefore_o may_v be_v mention_v here_o as_o the_o perfection_n of_o nature_n or_o else_o any_o mineral_n stone_n yea_o and_o even_o those_o flint_n and_o rocky_a stone_n which_o they_o dig_v through_o that_o they_o may_v come_v at_o the_o mineral_n all_o which_o may_v be_v call_v stone_n of_o darkness_n and_o the_o shadow_n of_o death_n because_o they_o lie_v hide_v in_o the_o dark_a bowel_n of_o the_o earth_n where_o never_o light_n be_v see_v and_o perhaps_o because_o those_o that_o descend_v into_o those_o dark_a and_o deadly_a vault_n of_o the_o earth_n be_v expose_v there_o to_o manifold_a danger_n of_o death_n but_o what_o be_v mean_v by_o the_o darkness_n of_o the_o shadow_n of_o death_n see_v more_o full_o in_o the_o note_n chap._n 3.5_o verse_n 4._o the_o flood_n break_v forth_o from_o the_o inhabitant_n even_o the_o water_n forget_v of_o the_o foot_n etc._n etc._n a_o very_a hard_a place_n this_o be_v and_o therefore_o expositor_n differ_v much_o concern_v the_o meaning_n of_o it_o but_o because_o the_o drift_n of_o the_o chapter_n be_v clear_o to_o show_v that_o however_o man_n by_o the_o wisdom_n that_o god_n have_v give_v he_o be_v able_a to_o find_v out_o many_o secret_a thing_n and_o to_o effect_v matter_n of_o great_a wonder_n yet_o he_o be_v no_o way_n able_a to_o comprehend_v the_o unsearchable_a wisdom_n of_o god_n therefore_o there_o be_v only_o two_o exposition_n which_o to_o i_o seem_v probable_a as_o be_v stream_n that_o break_v through_o or_o over_o the_o bank_n of_o the_o sea_n or_o river_n and_o so_o overflow_v those_o ground_n which_o be_v dry_a land_n good_a pasture_n or_o arable_a before_o and_o coal_n brimstone_n etc._n etc._n or_o metal_n that_o be_v to_o be_v melt_v and_o fine_v in_o the_o fire_n or_o rather_o glitter_v gold_n and_o sparkle_v precious_a stone_n which_o for_o their_o splendour_n when_o they_o be_v dig_v up_o seem_v to_o have_v the_o appearance_n of_o fire_n i_o know_v that_o there_o be_v some_o expositor_n that_o do_v far_o otherwise_o understand_v this_o place_n hold_v that_o job_n speak_v here_o of_o the_o strange_a and_o wonderful_a work_n of_o god_n to_o wit_n that_o in_o the_o same_o place_n he_o have_v make_v the_o upper_a part_n of_o the_o earth_n fat_a and_o fruitful_a for_o the_o yield_n of_o corn_n and_o the_o under_o part_n of_o it_o nothing_o but_o vein_n of_o sulphur_n and_o such_o like_a or_o that_o the_o lord_n make_v that_o land_n sulphureous_a hot_a and_o fiery_a and_o therefore_o barren_a which_o yield_v before_o exceed_v good_a corn_n but_o the_o first_o exposition_n be_v clear_o the_o best_a verse_n 6._o the_o stone_n of_o it_o be_v the_o place_n of_o saphire_n and_o it_o have_v dust_n of_o gold_n that_o be_v out_o of_o the_o stone-quarry_n therein_o they_o get_v saphire_n and_o out_o of_o the_o mould_n thereof_o they_o come_v near_o because_o of_o the_o sulphureous_a smell_n that_o be_v there_o yet_o i_o rather_o think_v that_o they_o be_v a_o poetical_a expression_n of_o the_o inaccessiblenesse_n of_o those_o way_n which_o man_n by_o dig_v and_o mine_v pass_n through_o to_o find_v out_o those_o mineral_n and_o precious_a stone_n which_o they_o seek_v after_o to_o wit_n that_o they_o be_v path_n which_o never_o creature_n find_v out_o before_o fowl_n that_o will_v be_v fly_v into_o any_o place_n yea_o even_o those_o that_o be_v most_o quick-sighted_a as_o vulture_n and_o other_o can_v never_o discover_v
