Amen For the Epistle Rev. 14.1 I Looked and lo a Lamb stood on the mount Sion and with him an hundred fourty and four thousand having his Fathers name written in their foreheads And I heard a voice from heaven as the voice of many waters and as the voice of a great thunder and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps and they sung as it were a new song before the throne and before the four beasts and the elders and no man could learn that song but the hundred and fourty and four thousand which were redeemed from the earth These are they which were not defiled with women for they are virgins these are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth these were redeemed from among men being the first-fruits unto God and to the Lamb. it was the preparation that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath-day for that sabbath-day was an high day besought Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away Then came the souldiers and brake the legs of the first and of the other which was crucified with him But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was dead already they brake not his legs But one of the souldiers with a spear pierced his side and forthwith came there out bloud and water And he that saw it bare record and his record is true and he knoweth that he saith true that ye might believe For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled A bone of him shall not be broken And again another Scripture saith They shall look on him whom they peirced Easter Even The collect GRant O Lord that as we are baptized into the death of thy blessed Son our Saviour Jesus Christ so by continual mortifying our corrupt affections we may be buried with him and that through the grave and gate of death we may pass to our joyful resurrection for his merits who died and was buried and rose again for us thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen The Epistle 1 S. Pet. 3.17 IT is better if the will of God be so that ye suffer for well-doing then for evil-doing For Christ also hath once suffered for sins the just for the unjust that he might bring us to God being put to death in the flesh but quickened by the Spirit By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison which sometime were disobedient when once the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah while the ark was a preparing wherein few that is eight souls were saved by water The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us not the putting away the filth of the flesh but the answer of a good conscience towards God by the resurrection of Jesus Christ Who is gone into heaven and is on the right hand of God angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him The Gospel S. John 20.1 THe first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalen early when it was yet dark unto the sepulchre and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre Then she runneth and cometh to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved and saith unto them They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre and we know not where they have laid him Peter therefore went forth and that other disciple and came to the sepulchre So they ran both together and the other disciple did out-run Peter and came first to the sepulchre and he stouping down and looking in saw the linen clothes lying yet went he not in Then cometh Simon Peter following him and went into the sepulchre and feeth the linen clothes lie and the napkin that was about his head not lying with the linen clothes but wrapped together in a place by it self Then went in also that other disciple which came first to the sepulchre and he saw and believed For as yet they knew not the Scripture that he must rise again from the dead Then the disciples went away again unto their own home Munday in Easter Week The collect ALmighty God who through thy only begotten Son Jesus Christ hast overcome death and opened unto us the gate of everlasting life We humbly beseech thee that as by thy special grace preventing us thou dost put into our minds good desires so by thy continual help we

upon them as thick as dust and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea 29 He let it fall among their tents even round about their habitation 30 So they did eat and were well filled for he gave them their own desire they were not disappointed of their lust 31 But while the meat was yet in their mouths the heavy wrath of God came upon them and slew the wealthiest of them yea and smote down slew them they sought him and turned them early and enquired after God 35 And they remembred that God was their strength and that the high God was their Redeemer 36 Nevertheless they did but flatter him with their mouth and dissemble with him in their tongue 37 For their heart was not whole with him neither continued they stedfast in his covenant 38 But he was so merciful that he forgave their misdeeds and destroyed them not 39 Yea many a time turned he his wrath away and would not suffer his whole displeasure to arise 40 For he considered that they were but flesh and that they were even a wind that passeth away and cometh not again 41 Many a time did they provoke him in the wilderness and grieved him in the desert 42 They turned back and tempted God and moved the holy One in Israel 43 They thought not of his hand and of the day when he delivered them from the hand of the enemy 44 How he had wrought his miracles in Egypt and his wonders in the field of Zoan 45 He turned their waters into bloud so that they might not drink of the rivers 46 He sent lice among them and devoured them up and frogs to destroy them 47 He gave their fruit unto the caterpillar and the labour unto the grashopper 48 He destroyed their vines with hail-stones and their mulberry-trees with the frost 49 He smote their cattel also with hail-stones and their flocks with hot thunder-bolts 50 He cast upon them the furiousness of his wrath anger displeasure and trouble and sent evil angels among them 51 He made a way to his indignation and spared not their soul from death but gave their life over to the pestilence 52 And smote all the first-born in Egypt the most principal and mightiest in the dwellings of Ham. 53 But as for his own people he led them forth like sheep and carried them in the wilderness like a flock 54 He brought them out safely that they should not fear and overwhelmed their enemies with the sea 55 And brought them within the borders of his sanctuary even to his mountain which he purchased with his right hand 56 He cast out the heathen also before them caused their land to be divided among them for an heritage and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents 57
