evangelical_n holiness_n and_o obedience_n why_o it_o be_v allege_v that_o religion_n before_o the_o entrance_n of_o sin_n and_o under_o the_o gospel_n be_v one_o and_o the_o same_o and_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o difference_n between_o the_o duty_n of_o obedience_n require_v in_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o and_o it_o be_v true_a that_o they_o be_v so_o far_o the_o same_o as_o that_o they_o have_v the_o same_o author_n the_o same_o object_n the_o same_o end_n and_o so_o also_o have_v the_o religion_n under_o the_o law_n which_o be_v therefore_o so_o far_o the_o same_o with_o they_o but_o that_o they_o be_v the_o same_o as_o to_o all_o the_o act_n of_o our_o obedience_n and_o the_o manner_n of_o their_o performance_n be_v a_o vain_a imagination_n be_v there_o no_o alteration_n make_v in_o religion_n by_o the_o interposition_n of_o the_o person_n of_o christ_n to_o be_v incarnate_a and_o his_o mediation_n no_o augmentation_n of_o the_o object_n of_o faith_n no_o change_n in_o the_o abolish_n of_o the_o old_a covenant_n and_o the_o establishment_n of_o the_o new_a the_o covenant_n between_o god_n and_o man_n be_v that_o which_o give_v the_o especial_a form_n and_o kind_n unto_o religion_n the_o measure_n and_o denomination_n of_o it_o no_o alteration_n in_o the_o principle_n aid_n assistance_n and_o whole_a nature_n of_o our_o obedience_n unto_o god_n the_o whole_a mystery_n of_o godliness_n must_v be_v renounce_v if_o we_o intend_v to_o give_v way_n unto_o such_o imagination_n be_v it_o so_o then_o that_o this_o moral_a virtue_n and_o the_o practice_n of_o it_o do_v contain_v and_o express_v all_o that_o obedience_n material_o consider_v which_o be_v require_v by_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n yet_o i_o deny_v it_o to_o be_v our_o holiness_n or_o evangelical_n obedience_n and_o that_o as_o for_o many_o other_o reason_n so_o principal_o because_o it_o have_v not_o that_o respect_n unto_o jesus_n christ_n which_o our_o sanctification_n have_v sect._n 82_o 5_o if_o it_o be_v say_v that_o by_o this_o moral_a virtue_n they_o intend_v no_o exclusion_n of_o jesus_n christ_n but_o include_v a_o respect_n unto_o he_o i_o desire_v only_o to_o ask_v whether_o they_o design_v by_o it_o such_o a_o habit_n of_o mind_n and_o such_o act_n
forgetfulness_n of_o the_o sovereign_a authority_n of_o god_n will_v betray_v they_o unto_o profuseness_n in_o vanity_n and_o corrupt_a communication_n until_o they_o do_v with_o delight_n and_o hear_v with_o pleasure_n such_o thing_n as_o wherewith_o the_o holy_a spirit_n of_o god_n be_v grieve_v their_o own_o conscience_n be_v defile_v and_o the_o honour_n of_o profession_n be_v cast_v to_o the_o ground_n sect._n 18_o second_o the_o command_n of_o god_n that_o we_o shall_v be_v holy_a be_v not_o to_o be_v consider_v only_o as_o a_o effect_n of_o power_n and_o authority_n which_o we_o must_v submit_v unto_o but_o as_o a_o fruit_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n and_o goodness_n also_o which_o it_o be_v our_o high_a advantage_n and_o interest_n to_o comply_v withal_o and_o this_o introduce_v a_o peculiar_a necessity_n of_o holiness_n from_o the_o consideration_n of_o what_o be_v equal_a reasonable_a ingenuous_a the_o contrary_a whereunto_o be_v foolish_a perverse_a ungrateful_a every_o way_n unbecoming_a rational_a creature_n where_o nothing_o can_v be_v discern_v in_o command_n but_o mere_a authority_n will_n and_o pleasure_n they_o be_v look_v on_o as_o mere_o respect_v the_o good_a of_o they_o that_o command_v and_o not_o at_o all_o they_o who_o be_v to_o obey_v which_o dishearten_v and_o weaken_v the_o principle_n of_o obedience_n now_o though_o god_n because_o his_o dominion_n over_o we_o be_v sovereign_a and_o absolute_a may_v have_v just_o leave_v unto_o we_o no_o other_o reason_n or_o motive_n of_o our_o obedience_n and_o it_o may_v be_v do_v so_o deal_v with_o the_o church_n of_o old_a as_o to_o some_o particular_a temporary_a ceremonial_a institution_n yet_o he_o do_v not_o nor_o ever_o do_v so_o as_o to_o the_o main_a of_o their_o obedience_n but_o as_o he_o propose_v his_o law_n as_o a_o effect_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n love_n and_o goodness_n so_o he_o declare_v and_o plead_v that_o all_o his_o command_n be_v just_a and_o equal_a in_o themselves_o good_a and_o useful_a unto_o we_o and_o that_o our_o compliance_n with_o they_o be_v our_o present_n as_o well_o as_o it_o will_v be_v our_o future_a happiness_n and_o that_o this_o be_v so_o that_o the_o command_n of_o god_n require_v that_o we_o shall_v be_v holy_a as_o a_o fruit_n of_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n be_v equal_a and_o advantageous_a unto_o ourselves_o appear_v from_o all_o consideration_n of_o it_o sect._n 19_o first_o look_v upon_o it_o formal_o as_o a_o law_n prescribe_v unto_o we_o and_o it_o be_v so_o because_o the_o obedience_n in_o holiness_n creation_n be_v sufficient_a to_o enable_v we_o unto_o all_o that_o holy_a obedience_n which_o be_v require_v therein_o and_o our_o not_o do_v so_o be_v from_o wilful_a rebellion_n and_o not_o from_o any_o impotency_n or_o weakness_n in_o we_o we_o fall_v not_o from_o our_o first_o estate_n for_o want_n of_o power_n to_o obey_v but_o by_o the_o neglect_n of_o the_o exercise_n of_o that_o power_n which_o we_o have_v god_n make_v we_o upright_o but_o we_o seek_v out_o many_o invention_n and_o in_o the_o latter_a way_n as_o it_o belong_v to_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n there_o be_v by_o virtue_n of_o that_o covenant_n a_o supply_n of_o spiritual_a strength_n give_v in_o by_o the_o promise_n unto_o all_o they_o who_o be_v take_v into_o it_o enable_v they_o to_o answer_v the_o have_v never_o speak_v of_o nor_o declare_v and_o which_o indeed_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o whole_a design_n of_o his_o grace_n they_o will_v have_v man_n who_o have_v break_v the_o old_a covenant_n and_o forfeit_v all_o their_o strength_n and_o ability_n which_o they_o have_v by_o it_o for_o obedience_n and_o be_v not_o initiate_v in_o the_o new_a covenant_n yet_o to_o have_v a_o power_n of_o their_o own_o to_o fulfil_v the_o command_n of_o the_o one_o or_o the_o other_o which_o god_n neither_o give_v nor_o be_v oblige_v to_o give_v nor_o be_v it_o necessary_a to_o prove_v that_o the_o command_n be_v equal_a and_o holy_a for_o as_o be_v observe_v god_n give_v we_o no_o command_n of_o holiness_n and_o obedience_n but_o in_o with_o and_o by_o virtue_n of_o some_o covenant_n and_o there_o be_v no_o more_o require_v to_o prove_v they_o to_o be_v just_a and_o equal_a but_o that_o they_o be_v easy_a unto_o they_o who_o walk_v with_o god_n in_o that_o covenant_n whereunto_o they_o do_v belong_v and_o that_o that_o performance_n of_o they_o shall_v be_v accept_v which_o they_o have_v power_n for_o if_o any_o will_v sinful_o cast_v away_o their_o covenant_n interest_n and_o privilege_n as_o we_o do_v all_o that_o of_o our_o original_a creation_n we_o must_v thank_v ourselves_o if_o we_o have_v not_o power_n to_o answer_v its_o command_n nor_o do_v it_o belong_v unto_o the_o equity_n of_o the_o command_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n that_o those_o who_o be_v not_o yet_o make_v partaker_n of_o it_o by_o grace_n shall_v have_v power_n to_o fulfil_v they_o nay_o if_o they_o have_v so_o and_o shall_v do_v so_o according_o be_v any_o such_o thing_n possible_a it_o will_v not_o avail_v they_o for_o be_v suppose_v not_o as_o yet_o to_o belong_v unto_o the_o new_a
