a_o usurer_n nor_o as_o such_o and_o such_o precise_a and_o nice_a fellow_n who_o be_v as_o much_o hate_v of_o they_o as_o ever_o be_v the_o publican_n of_o the_o pharisy_n i_o pay_v my_o church_n duty_n and_o give_v every_o man_n his_o own_o and_o this_o be_v the_o religion_n of_o the_o common_a protestant_n but_o suppose_v thou_o be_v thus_o guiltless_a as_o thou_o say_v yet_o be_v thou_o not_o yet_o half_a a_o christian_n for_o the_o apostle_n peter_n write_v to_o believer_n enjoin_v they_o not_o only_o to_o fly_v the_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o the_o world_n through_o lust_n 1.4.5_o but_o moreover_o to_o join_v virtue_n with_o faith_n and_o with_o virtue_n knowledge_n and_o with_o knowledge_n temperance_n and_o patience_n and_o godliness_n and_o brotherly_a kindness_n and_o love_n and_o add_v two_o reason_n 1._o if_o these_o thing_n be_v in_o you_o and_o abound_v etc._n etc._n teach_v that_o without_o these_o positive_a virtue_n all_o the_o knowledge_n of_o jesus_n winter_n as_o well_o as_o summer_n her_o night_n as_o well_o as_o day_n sometime_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n most_o comfortable_o shine_v and_o impart_v his_o heat_n and_o light_n by_o his_o near_a approach_n unto_o she_o yea_o and_o sometime_o there_o be_v two_o sun_n in_o this_o firmament_n for_o together_o with_o the_o sun_n of_o the_o church_n the_o sun_n of_o the_o world_n affoard_v warm_a and_o comfortable_a day_n for_o the_o full_a beauty_n liberty_n and_o glory_n of_o the_o church_n but_o sometime_o again_o this_o sun_n depart_v in_o dispeasure_n and_o carry_v the_o sun_n of_o the_o world_n with_o he_o then_o be_v a_o black_a winter_n of_o the_o church_n nothing_o but_o storm_n and_o tempest_n persecution_n and_o trial_n one_o in_o the_o neck_n of_o another_o and_o scarce_o one_o fair_a gleam_n between_o now_o in_o such_o time_n the_o poor_a church_n be_v drive_v to_o travel_v for_o rest_n and_o the_o innocent_a dove_n of_o christ_n can_v find_v in_o she_o own_o land_n any_o rest_n for_o the_o sole_a of_o her_o foot_n well_o may_v she_o fly_v abroad_o to_o seek_v her_o security_n in_o all_o which_o time_n every_o christian_a be_v bind_v by_o this_o and_o such_o like_a precept_n to_o give_v her_o harbour_n and_o safe_a conduct_n till_o the_o dash_n and_o storm_n be_v over_o beside_o suppose_v the_o church_n in_o general_a at_o her_o best_a estate_n yet_o the_o particular_a member_n of_o the_o church_n be_v for_o most_o part_n poor_a and_o needy_a and_o even_o then_o subject_a to_o many_o trouble_n for_o keep_v the_o faith_n and_o good_a conscience_n by_o mean_n whereof_o they_o be_v often_o drive_v from_o house_n and_o home_n and_o sometime_o be_v in_o banishment_n and_o exile_n sometime_o in_o prison_n and_o bond_n all_o who_o the_o lord_n commend_v to_o the_o charitable_a and_o christian_a devotion_n of_o christian_a man_n and_o bind_v they_o to_o the_o cheerful_a receive_n and_o relieve_v of_o they_o in_o such_o necessity_n let_v they_o be_v stranger_n yet_o if_o they_o be_v of_o the_o household_n of_o faith_n they_o have_v right_a to_o harbour_v and_o relief_n and_o in_o the_o practice_n of_o this_o duty_n the_o apostle_n require_v that_o the_o minister_n be_v the_o foreman_n second_o it_o will_v be_v inquire_v whether_o every_o minister_n must_v be_v harbourous_a and_o hospitable_a and_o if_o he_o must_v what_o shall_v become_v of_o they_o who_o living_n be_v scarce_o able_a to_o harbour_v themselves_o and_o much_o more_o of_o the_o swarm_n of_o our_o tenne-pound_n man_n and_o very_o many_o scarce_o half_a that_o to_o maintain_v their_o family_n it_o seem_v that_o every_o minister_n ought_v to_o be_v a_o rich_a man_n ans._n it_o be_v not_o for_o i_o to_o prescribe_v any_o thing_n in_o the_o church_n constitution_n concern_v impropriation_n and_o nonresidencie_n harbourâ—es_n the_o former_a whereof_o be_v they_o restore_v to_o the_o church_n and_o the_o latter_a remove_v out_o of_o the_o church_n no_o doubt_n there_o be_v but_o that_o sufficient_a minister_n may_v be_v sufficient_o maintain_v &_o furnish_v to_o hospitality_n through_o the_o land_n but_o this_o i_o say_v that_o the_o poor_a minister_n may_v not_o exempt_v himself_o from_o this_o duty_n neither_o be_v altogether_o disable_v from_o it_o a_o poor_a man_n may_v be_v merciful_a and_o comfortable_a to_o the_o distress_a some_o way_n or_o other_o as_o if_o with_o peter_n and_o john_n he_o have_v not_o money_n nor_o gold_n nor_o meat_n to_o give_v yet_o such_o as_o he_o have_v he_o can_v give_v he_o can_v give_v counsel_n prayer_n and_o afford_v his_o best_a affection_n 3.5_o such_o cup_n of_o cold_a water_n shall_v not_o be_v unaccept_v nor_o unrewarded_a of_o he_o 10.42_o who_o property_n be_v to_o accpet_v a_o man_n according_a to_o that_o he_o have_v and_o not_o according_a to_o that_o he_o have_v not_o where_o he_o see_v a_o ready_a mind_n 8.12_o thus_o must_v that_o place_n 1._o tim._n 5.10_o be_v understand_v such_o widow_n as_o be_v to_o be_v receive_v into_o the_o service_n of_o the_o church_n be_v to_o be_v choose_v of_o such_o as_o have_v be_v hospitable_a and_o harberous_a now_o in_o all_o likelihood_n many_o of_o they_o if_o not_o the_o most_o be_v very_o poor_a and_o have_v no_o great_a matter_n to_o be_v liberal_a of_o &_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n seem_v in_o the_o next_o word_n to_o declare_v wherein_o this_o hospitality_n may_v be_v show_v even_o by_o such_o as_o have_v know_v want_n namely_o if_o they_o have_v perform_v bodily_a labour_n unto_o they_o wash_v the_o saint_n foot_n bestow_v their_o best_a affection_n and_o cheerful_a labour_n for_o their_o relief_n and_o thus_o may_v these_o poor_a widow_n
of_o christ_n and_o the_o express_v of_o his_o virtue_n whence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o apostle_n praise_v god_n for_o the_o faith_n and_o love_n of_o the_o colossian_n 1.5_o present_o point_v to_o the_o natural_a mother_n of_o these_o virtue_n of_o who_o they_o both_o be_v breed_v and_o feed_v for_o the_o hope_n sake_n that_o be_v the_o glory_n hope_v for_o which_o be_v lay_v up_o for_o you_o in_o heaven_n and_o the_o same_o apostle_n exhort_v the_o philippian_n not_o to_o mind_v earthly_a thing_n 3.20_o but_o to_o traffic_v as_o the_o citizen_n of_o heaven_n note_v this_o the_o most_o minister_n must_v take_v heed_n of_o earthly_a mindednes_n earthlines_n not_o seek_v they_o but_o they_o who_o be_v commit_v unto_o their_o trust_n not_o only_o hereby_o to_o avoid_v offence_n but_o also_o that_o they_o may_v feel_o speak_v of_o such_o point_n as_o concern_v the_o forsake_v of_o the_o world_n in_o affection_n a_o point_n most_o difficult_a to_o learn_v from_o the_o most_o sanctify_a teacher_n which_o course_n if_o a_o minister_n take_v not_o long_o may_v he_o look_v for_o a_o harvest_n yea_o even_o till_o his_o eye_n fail_v but_o he_o shall_v never_o see_v his_o seed_n again_o he_o have_v sow_v to_o the_o wind_n and_o what_o can_v he_o look_v to_o reap_v but_o earthliness_n or_o atheism_n among_o his_o people_n for_o man_n mind_n will_v be_v work_v and_o settle_v themselves_o upon_o some_o pleasurable_a and_o profitable_a object_n if_o not_o upon_o that_o which_o be_v true_o good_a yet_o at_o least_o upon_o that_o which_o be_v apparent_o good_a and_o their_o heart_n can_v never_o be_v take_v off_o thing_n below_o but_o remain_v worldling_n still_o unless_o we_o show_v they_o better_a treasure_n elsewhere_o and_o that_o in_o such_o feel_a manner_n as_o they_o may_v think_v we_o speak_v in_o earnest_n and_o again_o if_o they_o without_o this_o doctrine_n be_v suffer_v like_o the_o sadducee_n to_o include_v all_o their_o hope_n &_o desire_n in_o this_o life_n no_o other_o fruit_n can_v be_v expect_v but_o open_a atheism_n and_o contempt_n of_o god_n use_v 2._o people_n must_v conceive_v that_o now_o in_o the_o ministry_n they_o be_v call_v to_o the_o beginning_n of_o the_o heavenly_a life_n heaven_n for_o we_o may_v not_o think_v that_o the_o lord_n mean_v only_o to_o manifest_v his_o love_n hereafter_o in_o heaven_n to_o believe_v soul_n but_o as_o love_n desire_v present_a communication_n and_o union_n with_o the_o thing_n love_v so_o the_o lord_n enter_v into_o present_a league_n with_o such_o as_o he_o strike_v his_o everlasting_a covenant_n withal_o &_o never_o marry_v himself_o into_o any_o soul_n in_o that_o indissoluble_a wedlock_n with_o who_o he_o contract_v not_o himself_o even_o here_o upon_o earth_n and_o see_v the_o gospel_n in_o the_o ministry_n of_o it_o be_v the_o lord_n love_v letter_n every_o one_o in_o the_o hear_n of_o these_o glad_a tiding_n must_v say_v to_o his_o soul_n this_o be_v the_o which_o check_v many_o of_o our_o hearer_n who_o be_v every_o whit_n as_o worldly_a as_o earthly_a mind_v as_o they_o be_v at_o their_o first_o receive_v of_o the_o gospel_n and_o some_o professor_n that_o have_v much_o earthliness_n bind_v up_o in_o their_o bosom_n the_o follow_v of_o their_o own_o plough_n cause_v they_o often_o content_o to_o pluck_v their_o hand_n from_o the_o plough_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o because_o it_o be_v common_a with_o man_n to_o think_v they_o have_v attain_v enough_o in_o christianity_n when_o they_o have_v get_v a_o little_a knowledge_n and_o may_v now_o make_v holiday_n and_o go_v no_o further_o it_o be_v meet_v that_o all_o of_o we_o shall_v bring_v our_o heart_n to_o some_o certain_a trial_n and_o touch_n whereby_o we_o may_v have_v assurance_n that_o the_o word_n have_v frame_v they_o to_o this_o temper_n of_o which_o we_o speak_v and_o that_o we_o may_v do_v as_o by_o many_o other_o so_o especial_o by_o these_o three_o note_n 31.25_o 1._o whereas_o all_o earthly_a reioysing_n be_v condemn_v as_o wherein_o man_n easy_o loose_v their_o heart_n and_o whereby_o death_n be_v make_v distasteful_a and_o unwelcome_a heaven_n examine_v
