but_o that_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o a_o man_n as_o such_o be_v much_o more_o proportionable_a to_o the_o punishment_n which_o the_o sin_n of_o man_n deserve_v than_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o a_o beast_n because_o a_o man_n be_v a_o much_o noble_a creature_n as_o be_v far_o advance_v above_o a_o beast_n by_o the_o prerogative_n of_o his_o reason_n and_o consequent_o his_o death_n consider_v as_o a_o man_n must_v be_v a_o much_o more_o valuable_a exchange_n for_o the_o punishment_n that_o be_v due_a to_o those_o he_o die_v for_o but_o herein_o the_o heathen_a be_v miserable_o mistake_v that_o they_o do_v not_o consider_v that_o the_o man_n who_o they_o sacrifice_v be_v sinner_n as_o well_o as_o themselves_o and_o that_o it_o be_v a_o much_o great_a flaw_n in_o a_o expiatory_a sacrifice_n to_o be_v a_o sinner_n than_o to_o be_v a_o brute_n for_o whereas_o the_o latter_a only_o render_v it_o less_o effectual_a and_o valuable_a the_o former_a as_o be_v show_v before_o render_v it_o utter_o void_a and_o insignificant_a and_o therefore_o though_o the_o death_n of_o a_o man_n consider_v as_o such_o be_v of_o much_o more_o value_n than_o the_o death_n of_o a_o beast_n yet_o to_o expiate_v for_o the_o sin_n of_o man_n there_o be_v more_o internal_a virtue_n and_o efficacy_n in_o the_o death_n of_o a_o innocent_a beast_n than_o of_o a_o sinful_a man_n because_o the_o latter_a can_v expiate_v only_o for_o his_o own_o sin_n whereas_o the_o former_a can_v have_v no_o sin_n but_o that_o of_o other_o to_o expiate_v since_o therefore_o man_n be_v all_o spot_a and_o blemish_v with_o sin_n there_o be_v no_o life_n so_o fit_a for_o they_o to_o offer_v to_o god_n in_o commutation_n for_o their_o forfeit_a life_n as_o that_o of_o innocent_a brute_n so_o that_o the_o best_a commutation_n they_o can_v make_v be_v infinite_o short_a of_o their_o demerit_n and_o suppose_v that_o the_o man_n which_o the_o heathen_a offer_v have_v be_v all_o pure_a and_o innocent_a yet_o their_o life_n will_v have_v be_v only_o a_o equivalent_a commutation_n for_o the_o forfeit_a life_n of_o a_o equal_a number_n of_o sinner_n unless_o therefore_o one_o half_a of_o mankind_n have_v be_v innocent_a and_o they_o have_v be_v sacrifice_v for_o the_o other_o half_o that_o be_v guilty_a it_o have_v not_o be_v a_o equal_a commutation_n so_o much_o as_o for_o the_o temporal_a punishment_n which_o be_v due_a to_o god_n from_o the_o guilty_a but_o then_o for_o their_o eternal_a punishment_n a_o hecatomb_n of_o angel_n have_v be_v short_a and_o insufficient_a for_o what_o proportion_n be_v there_o between_o a_o temporary_a death_n and_o a_o eternal_a misery_n since_o therefore_o in_o great_a compassion_n to_o we_o god_n have_v think_v meet_a to_o accept_v of_o a_o which_o carry_v warmth_n and_o fervour_n enough_o with_o they_o to_o melt_v the_o most_o obdudurate_a nature_n four_o christ_n death_n and_o sacrifice_n be_v also_o to_o be_v consider_v as_o a_o sure_a and_o certain_a ground_n of_o our_o hope_n of_o pardon_n if_o we_o repent_v and_o amend_v for_o it_o be_v upon_o the_o virtue_n of_o expiatory_a sacrifice_n that_o all_o mankind_n depend_v for_o their_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n and_o therefore_o these_o sacrifice_n be_v a_o principal_a part_n not_o only_o of_o the_o religion_n of_o the_o jew_n but_o of_o the_o gentile_n too_o who_o beside_o their_o eucharistical_a have_v their_o constant_a expiatory_a oblation_n to_o atone_v and_o pacify_v their_o gods._n and_o this_o more_o especial_o in_o time_n of_o public_a danger_n and_o calamity_n when_o they_o conceive_v their_o god_n to_o be_v most_o offend_v with_o they_o at_o which_o season_n they_o be_v wont_a to_o offer_v up_o their_o most_o costly_a sacrifice_n and_o devote_v not_o only_a hecatomb_n of_o beast_n to_o their_o altar_n but_o many_o time_n the_o more_o precious_a life_n of_o man_n woman_n and_o child_n imagine_v that_o the_o more_o valuable_a the_o life_n be_v the_o great_a virtue_n there_o be_v in_o it_o to_o appease_v the_o angry_a deity_n and_o upon_o this_o sacred_a rite_n do_v all_o the_o world_n build_v their_o hope_n of_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n as_o be_v conscious_a that_o by_o their_o sin_n they_o have_v forfeit_v their_o own_o life_n to_o he_o and_o that_o there_o be_v no_o other_o way_n to_o redeem_v they_o but_o by_o make_v a_o of_o pure_a grace_n and_o favour_n in_o he_o to_o admit_v of_o such_o a_o commutation_n it_o whole_o depend_v on_o his_o own_o goodwill_n whether_o he_o will_v admit_v it_o or_o no_o and_o without_o some_o express_a revelation_n it_o be_v impossible_a for_o they_o to_o know_v which_o way_n his_o will_n be_v determine_v in_o the_o case_n and_o then_o even_o their_o most_o precious_a sacrifice_n which_o be_v the_o life_n of_o man_n be_v infinite_o short_a in_o value_n to_o redeem_v the_o life_n and_o soul_n of_o those_o that_o offer_v they_o those_o sacrifice_a man_n be_v sinner_n themselves_o and_o they_o but_o a_o few_o sinner_n for_o many_o and_o as_o for_o the_o jewish_a sacrifice_n though_o god_n in_o many_o case_n have_v promise_v to_o accept_v they_o in_o commutation_n for_o the_o life_n of_o their_o body_n yet_o those_o be_v only_o the_o life_n of_o brute_n which_o be_v but_o negative_o innocent_a as_o be_v incapable_a of_o sin_n or_o virtue_n can_v merit_v nothing_o of_o god_n and_o consequent_o be_v infinite_o short_a of_o a_o valuable_a commutation_n for_o the_o forfeit_a life_n of_o their_o soul_n all_o which_o consider_v there_o be_v no_o rely_v on_o they_o for_o redemption_n from_o the_o obligation_n they_o lie_v under_o to_o eternal_a punishment_n but_o now_o all_o these_o defect_n be_v abundant_o supply_v in_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o our_o he_o be_v also_o perfect_o righteous_a and_o by_o virtue_n thereof_o infinite_o dear_a and_o acceptable_a to_o god_n and_o to_o crown_v all_o god_n himself_o both_o by_o express_a revelation_n and_o
