also_o whereas_o the_o shallow_a conceit_n of_o man_n reason_n stumble_v at_o the_o prayer_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n as_o if_o it_o can_v not_o stand_v with_o obedience_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n or_o with_o that_o constancy_n which_o ought_v to_o have_v be_v in_o christ_n we_o be_v to_o believe_v as_o the_o truth_n be_v that_o it_o be_v a_o most_o holy_a prayer_n most_o perfect_o beseem_v the_o present_a estate_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n both_o thereby_o to_o express_v the_o extremity_n of_o his_o inward_a distress_n and_o horror_n and_o therein_o the_o infirmity_n of_o his_o humane_a nature_n unable_a of_o itself_o to_o endure_v it_o and_o also_o to_o show_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o his_o invincible_a patience_n and_o â—aith_n in_o that_o he_o pray_v to_o his_o heavenly_a father_n only_o for_o relief_n and_o succour_n submit_v his_o own_o humane_a will_n and_o desire_n to_o the_o good_a pleasure_n of_o his_o divine_a will_n which_o be_v a_o more_o perfect_a confirmation_n of_o the_o most_o perfect_a obedience_n of_o our_o saviour_n then_o if_o he_o have_v yield_v to_o drink_v the_o bitter_a potion_n of_o god_n wrath_n without_o any_o such_o grievous_a and_o sore_a temptation_n to_o the_o contrary_n so_o then_o our_o saviour_n christ_n be_v tempt_v in_o the_o infirmity_n of_o man_n nature_n like_v as_o man_n be_v tempt_v yea_o above_o all_o temptation_n of_o man_n but_o yet_o without_o sin_n as_o the_o holy_a apostle_n true_o teach_v in_o that_o he_o never_o yield_v to_o any_o sin_n through_o any_o temptation_n and_o therein_o be_v hereafter_o hitherto_o of_o the_o suffering_n of_o our_o saviour_n in_o his_o prepare_n of_o himself_o to_o his_o suffering_n by_o the_o serious_a thought_n and_o meditation_n of_o they_o special_o of_o those_o that_o be_v to_o fall_v upon_o he_o most_o near_o unto_o death_n the_o premeditation_n and_o thought_n of_o which_o cup_n be_v so_o sharp_a and_o bitter_a in_o the_o taste_n and_o sip_v of_o it_o how_o sharp_a and_o bitter_a may_v we_o suppose_v the_o whole_a draught_n even_o the_o drink_n of_o it_o dregs_n and_o all_o to_o have_v be_v unto_o he_o let_v we_o now_o proceed_v to_o the_o second_o branch_n of_o the_o suffering_n of_o our_o saviour_n which_o concern_v the_o act_n of_o judas_n his_o prodition_n or_o betray_v of_o he_o into_o the_o hand_n of_o his_o malicious_a adversary_n most_o sinful_a and_o wicked_a man_n question_n what_o testimony_n and_o
otherwise_o plentiful_o testify_v namely_o that_o he_o suffer_v thus_o willing_o for_o we_o miserable_a sinner_n rom_n 5.6_o etc._n etc._n and_o gal_n 2.20_o the_o sonâ—e_z of_o god_n love_v i_o say_v the_o apostle_n and_o give_v himself_o for_o i_o and_o chap_n 3_o 13_o 14._o and_o 1._o pet._n 3.18_o christ_n have_v once_o suffer_v the_o just_a for_o the_o unjust_a tâ—at_o he_o may_v bring_v we_o to_o god_n and_o revel_v â—_o 9.10_o and_o the_o prophet_n isaiah_n more_o than_o 500_o year_n before_o our_o saviour_n suffer_v chap_n 53.4_o say_v sure_o he_o have_v boâ—ne_v our_o infirmity_n and_o carry_v our_o sorrow_n the_o which_o be_v the_o rather_o to_o be_v observe_v because_o as_o the_o holy_a prophet_n give_v to_o understand_v without_o the_o special_a grace_n and_o illumination_n of_o god_n we_o shall_v be_v ignorant_a of_o this_o point_n which_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o all_o our_o peace_n and_o comfort_n as_o appear_v from_o the_o begin_n of_o that_o chapter_n in_o that_o the_o prophet_n break_v forth_o after_o this_o manner_n who_o will_v believe_v our_o report_n and_o in_o the_o latter_a part_n of_o the_o four_o verse_n we_o judge_v he_o plague_v and_o smite_v of_o god_n and_o humble_v not_o for_o we_o as_o the_o wicked_a jew_n think_v but_o rather_o for_o his_o own_o sin_n though_o in_o truth_n he_o know_v no_o sin_n as_o the_o same_o isaiah_n afterward_o teach_v matth._n 27.19_o he_o be_v acknowledge_v to_o be_v a_o righteous_a man_n by_o pilate_n wife_n and_o oftentimes_o by_o pilate_n himself_o though_o he_o condemn_v he_o against_o his_o conscience_n as_o sin_n and_o if_o he_o have_v have_v any_o of_o his_o own_o he_o must_v needs_o have_v sink_v under_o the_o importable_a weight_n of_o god_n wrath_n for_o as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o holy_a proverb_n a_o wound_a spirit_n who_o can_v bear_v seaventh_o as_o touch_v the_o infinitenes_n of_o the_o fruit_n and_o benefit_n redound_v to_o we_o by_o the_o suffering_n of_o our_o saviour_n yea_o even_o to_o we_o most_o unworthy_a the_o least_o grace_n and_o favour_n the_o apostle_n do_v notable_o lay_v it_o forth_o in_o the_o manifold_a branch_n of_o it_o rom._n 5_o 1_o 2_o 3_o 4._o but_o of_o these_o his_o most_o perfect_a faith_n love_n and_o obedience_n to_o god_n his_o father_n whereof_o his_o most_o meek_a and_o willing_a endure_v of_o all_o his_o suffering_n from_o his_o holy_a hand_n whatsoever_o they_o be_v and_o whosoever_o be_v the_o instrument_n of_o they_o be_v a_o most_o perfect_a confirmation_n second_o his_o most_o present_a mind_n and_o excellent_a wisdom_n in_o his_o whole_a behaviour_n accompany_v with_o most_o holy_a courage_n and_o fortitude_n in_o every_o trouble_n temptation_n and_o provocation_n yea_o even_o in_o the_o sharp_a and_o most_o vehement_a and_o grievous_a of_o they_o both_o towards_o his_o disciple_n with_o singular_a love_n and_o tender_a compassion_n and_o also_o concern_v every_o sort_n of_o those_o that_o be_v his_o adversary_n with_o invincible_a patience_n and_o constancy_n three_o his_o admirable_a love_n and_o pity_n towards_o all_o the_o elect_a of_o god_n yea_o towards_o those_o of_o his_o adversary_n whosoever_o among_o they_o be_v for_o the_o present_a his_o cruel_a persecutor_n whether_o jew_n or_o gentile_n these_o be_v the_o excellent_a virtue_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n manifest_v throughout_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o his_o suffering_n they_o be_v not_o unprofitablie_o nay_o rather_o suffering_n the_o perfection_n of_o his_o suffering_n they_o be_v to_o our_o very_a great_a profit_n to_o be_v consider_v of_o we_o in_o the_o particular_n according_a to_o the_o several_a branch_n thus_o already_o more_o general_o express_v question_n and_o first_o wherein_o may_v his_o faith_n and_o love_n in_o all_o obedience_n and_o meekness_n under_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n his_o father_n be_v discern_v of_o we_o answer_n it_o may_v be_v evident_o discern_v in_o this_o that_o he_o prepare_v himself_o verse_n 22.27_o john_n chapter_n 18.37_o and_o chap_n 19_o verse_n 11.28.30_o final_o the_o most_o resolute_a and_o ready_a willingness_n of_o our_o saviour_n to_o suffer_v his_o whole_a most_o better_a passion_n according_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n be_v a_o perfect_a declaration_n of_o his_o most_o perfect_a faith_n and_o obedience_n to_o god_n his_o heavenly_a father_n proof_n explication_n and_o proof_n it_o be_v so_o indeed_o as_o we_o may_v read_v mat_n 16.21_o 22_o 23._o for_o when_o peter_n will_v have_v dissuade_v he_o from_o go_v up_o to_o jerusalem_n he_o must_v this_o his_o trouble_n then_o short_o to_o ensue_v verse_n 35.36.37_o and_o after_o all_o this_o when_o he_o himself_o be_v apprehend_v in_o the_o garden_n he_o appease_v the_o rage_n of_o the_o adversary_n against_o peter_n because_o of_o his_o violent_a resistance_n against_o the_o officer_n and_o in_o tender_a regard_n both_o of_o he_o and_o the_o rest_n give_v thâ—m_v a_o evasion_n out_o
