of_o life_n to_o they_o that_o love_v he_o ja._n 1.12_o and_o therefore_o since_o that_o law_n of_o sincerity_n contain_v the_o condition_n of_o that_o promise_n it_o hence_o necessary_o follow_v that_o our_o love_n to_o god_n be_v a_o part_n of_o it_o since_o that_o promise_n be_v make_v to_o those_o that_o love_v he_o nay_o so_o necessary_a a_o part_n of_o that_o law_n be_v this_o excellent_a virtue_n that_o the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o without_o this_o the_o most_o virtuous_a action_n whatsoever_o be_v insignificant_a cipher_n in_o the_o account_n of_o god_n for_o though_o say_v he_o i_o bestow_v all_o my_o good_n to_o feed_v the_o poor_a and_o though_o i_o give_v my_o body_n to_o be_v burn_v and_o have_v not_o charity_n it_o profit_v i_o nothing_o 1_o cor._n 13.3_o where_o it_o be_v plain_a he_o take_v charity_n in_o the_o large_a sense_n for_o our_o love_n to_o god_n and_o one_o another_o he_o therefore_o that_o do_v not_o real_o love_v god_n who_o be_v not_o commandment_n the_o most_o essential_a property_n of_o our_o love_n of_o he_o for_o if_o a_o man_n love_v i_o say_v our_o saviour_n he_o will_v keep_v my_o word_n joh._n 14.23_o and_o whoso_o keep_v his_o word_n say_v st._n john_n that_o be_v his_o commandment_n in_o he_o be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n perfect_v that_o be_v in_o he_o it_o be_v real_a and_o cordial_a and_o sincere_a 1_o joh._n 2.5_o when_o therefore_o our_o love_n to_o god_n have_v that_o power_n over_o we_o as_o together_o with_o the_o other_o motive_n of_o christianity_n to_o restrain_v we_o from_o the_o wilful_a omission_n of_o any_o know_a duty_n or_o commission_n of_o any_o know_a sin_n it_o be_v then_o perfect_v to_o that_o degree_n which_o the_o law_n of_o sincerity_n exact_v but_o before_o we_o dismiss_v this_o argument_n it_o will_v be_v necessary_a to_o give_v a_o more_o particular_a account_n of_o it_o 1._o therefore_o this_o law_n of_o sincerity_n require_v that_o some_o degree_n of_o true_a love_n to_o god_n shall_v be_v intermingle_v with_o the_o other_o part_n of_o our_o obedience_n to_o he_o because_o this_o as_o i_o have_v show_v you_o be_v one_o great_a and_o essential_a part_n of_o that_o obedience_n which_o it_o require_v and_o therefore_o if_o out_o of_o mere_a fear_n of_o god_n we_o shall_v obey_v he_o in_o all_o other_o instance_n yet_o so_o long_o as_o we_o be_v defective_a in_o this_o our_o obedience_n will_v be_v lame_a and_o partial_a and_o want_v a_o great_a part_n of_o that_o entireness_n which_o the_o law_n of_o sincerity_n exact_v for_o since_o it_o require_v we_o to_o love_n god_n under_o the_o same_o penalty_n of_o eternal_a death_n that_o it_o require_v all_o its_o other_o duty_n we_o can_v no_o more_o be_v save_v by_o it_o without_o this_o virtue_n than_o without_o justice_n temperance_n and_o chastity_n yea_o consider_v how_o necessary_a this_o be_v both_o to_o quicken_v our_o obedience_n here_o and_o qualify_v we_o for_o happiness_n hereafter_o we_o may_v much_o better_o spare_v any_o virtue_n of_o religion_n than_o this_o of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n this_o therefore_o be_v indispensable_o necessary_a according_a to_o the_o tenor_n of_o the_o law_n of_o sincerity_n that_o there_o shall_v be_v some_o degree_n of_o true_a love_n to_o god_n intermingle_v with_o the_o other_o part_n of_o our_o obedience_n 2_o lie_n this_o law_n of_o sincerity_n exact_v of_o we_o only_o such_o a_o degree_n of_o love_n to_o god_n as_o in_o conjunction_n with_o the_o other_o motive_n of_o christianity_n be_v actual_o sufficient_a to_o enforce_v our_o obedience_n it_o do_v not_o require_v we_o to_o love_n god_n in_o that_o heroic_a degree_n as_o not_o to_o need_v any_o other_o motive_n to_o engage_v we_o to_o obey_v his_o will_n for_o if_o it_o do_v no_o man_n can_v be_v in_o a_o good_a state_n till_o he_o be_v able_a to_o obey_v god_n pure_o for_o his_o own_o sake_n without_o any_o respect_n either_o to_o those_o glorious_a advantage_n he_o promise_v or_o those_o endless_a torment_n he_o denounce_v which_o require_v such_o a_o ardent_a degree_n of_o love_n to_o he_o as_o i_o doubt_v few_o good_a man_n arrive_v to_o in_o this_o life_n i_o know_v it_o be_v usual_o say_v by_o those_o that_o handle_v this_o argument_n that_o to_o love_n god_n above_o all_o thing_n be_v the_o degree_n of_o love_n to_o which_o the_o law_n of_o sincerity_n oblige_v we_o but_o either_o this_o must_v be_v a_o mistake_n or_o no_o man_n can_v be_v good_a till_o he_o be_v so_o perfect_a a_o lover_n of_o god_n as_o not_o to_o need_v any_o other_o motive_n but_o that_o of_o his_o own_o love_n to_o oblige_v he_o to_o obedience_n for_o man_n need_v no_o motive_n to_o persuade_v they_o to_o choose_v what_o they_o love_v best_a and_o therefore_o if_o man_n love_v god_n above_o all_o they_o
