will_v have_v require_v no_o more_o of_o they_o here_o perhaps_o you_o will_v ask_v i_o but_o do_v not_o our_o saviour_n even_o in_o this_o text_n we_o entreat_v of_o require_v more_o than_o so_o of_o we_o to_o wit_n that_o we_o shall_v take_v up_o our_o cross_n and_o that_o we_o shall_v follow_v his_o example_n do_v he_o not_o usher_v in_o these_o with_o the_o very_a same_o siquis_n he_o do_v that_o precept_n of_o self-denial_n it_o be_v plain_a he_o do_v why_o then_o we_o may_v well_o conclude_v that_o this_o precept_n of_o self-denial_n have_v no_o pre-eminence_n above_o the_o other_o no_o the_o very_a positure_n of_o it_o in_o the_o first_o place_n prove_v the_o contrary_a and_o give_v it_o the_o pre-eminence_n above_o they_o for_o hereby_o we_o be_v absolute_o in_o the_o first_o place_n oblige_v to_o that_o whatsoever_o obligation_n the_o other_o fasten_v on_o we_o either_o it_o must_v be_v nothing_o and_o void_a if_o it_o contradict_v the_o first_o or_o if_o it_o do_v not_o self-denial_n must_v be_v perform_v by_o the_o help_n of_o contrary_n no_o fit_a mean_n than_o can_v be_v imagine_v to_o help_v it_o forward_o than_o the_o cross_n for_o if_o as_o hypocrates_n and_o all_o physician_n tell_v we_o all_o cure_n must_v be_v perform_v by_o contrary_n we_o may_v very_o apt_o compare_v self-love_n to_o the_o disease_n or_o humour_n that_o be_v to_o be_v purge_v out_o of_o we_o the_o cross_n to_o that_o physic_n which_o must_v help_v to_o do_v it_o and_o self-denial_n to_o that_o expulsive_a faculty_n wherewith_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n endue_v we_o as_o for_o those_o other_o word_n and_o follow_v i_o they_o also_o have_v a_o plain_a reference_n to_o this_o precept_n of_o self-denial_n as_o be_v not_o only_o our_o saviour_n grant_n wherein_o he_o give_v full_a power_n licence_n and_o authority_n to_o all_o that_o shall_v come_v to_o he_o with_o those_o two_o precedent_a qualification_n to_o become_v his_o follower_n and_o disciple_n that_o be_v christian_n but_o also_o a_o three_o precept_n enjoin_v we_o with_o constancy_n and_o perseverance_n to_o imitate_v the_o perfect_a pattern_n of_o self-denial_n in_o our_o saviour_n own_o example_n who_o as_o the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o 15.3_o rom._n 15.3_o do_v not_o please_v that_o be_v deny_v himself_o whereas_o therefore_o we_o compare_v the_o cross_n to_o that_o physic_n that_o must_v cure_v we_o of_o self-love_n we_o may_v compare_v this_o precept_n to_o that_o rule_n of_o diet_n which_o must_v prevent_v our_o relapse_v so_o then_o notwithstanding_o what_o can_v be_v allege_v out_o of_o the_o word_n self-denial_n must_v still_o have_v the_o pre-eminence_n but_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o here_o some_o perhaps_o will_v fly_v to_o argument_n and_o wonder_v how_o all_o our_o religion_n shall_v be_v build_v on_o self-denial_n what_o all_o of_o it_o anascevasticall_a no_o catascevasticall_a part_n thereof_o all_o tend_v to_o mortification_n no_o part_n to_o vivification_n all_o to_o doff_v the_o old_a man_n none_o do_v on_o the_o new_a i_o look_v this_o shall_v be_v cast_v in_o my_o way_n by_o those_o qui_fw-la ad_fw-la pauca_fw-la respiciunt_fw-la but_o it_o be_v nothing_o these_o distinction_n be_v but_o of_o divers_a notion_n not_o of_o divers_a thing_n our_o deed_n of_o mortification_n be_v at_o once_o deed_n of_o vivification_n our_o put_v off_o the_o old_a man_n can_v be_v without_o put_v on_o the_o new_a our_o aversion_n from_o the_o creature_n if_o regular_a and_o uniform_a be_v our_o conversion_n unto_o god_n it_o must_v needs_o be_v so_o must_v needs_o betake_v himself_o to_o god_n even_o as_o he_o that_o forsake_v the_o earth_n must_v needs_o go_v towards_o heaven_n as_o for_o this_o present_a world_n it_o be_v no_o other_o but_o our_o exile_n because_o our_o enemy_n be_v master_n of_o it_o our_o life_n be_v our_o pilgrimage_n our_o journey_n heaven_n that_o be_v our_o country_n and_o our_o religion_n be_v our_o motion_n
