whole_a trinity_n as_o be_v afore_o say_v of_o these_o seven_o gift_n of_o grace_n that_o be_v so_o excellent_o in_o our_o saviour_n christ_n and_o by_o he_o be_v distribute_v and_o divide_v to_o all_o they_o that_o be_v apt_a to_o receive_v they_o i_o purpose_v god_n help_v to_o entreat_v partly_o this_o day_n differ_v until_o another_o time_n or_o time_n when_o it_o shall_v please_v god_n they_o that_o i_o shall_v not_o have_v leisure_n or_o opportunity_n to_o speak_v of_o now_o and_o here_o be_v to_o be_v note_v for_o they_o that_o be_v learned_a that_o the_o scholastical_a doctor_n be_v of_o diverse_a opinion_n in_o confer_v and_o compare_v these_o seven_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o the_o seven_o principal_a virtue_n three_o theological_a faith_n hope_n and_o charity_n &_o four_o cardinal_n prudence_n justice_n fortitude_n and_o temperance_n and_o also_o to_o the_o viij_o beatitude_n that_o christ_n speak_v of_o matth._n v._n and_o to_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n speak_v of_o gala._n v._o so_o that_o by_o many_o division_n and_o subdivision_n they_o reduce_v all_o these_o seven_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n unto_o the_o seven_o principal_a virtue_n aforesaid_a &_o also_o to_o the_o say_a beatitude_n and_o fruit_n and_o contrariwise_o they_o reduce_v all_o the_o say_v seven_o principal_a virtue_n beatitude_n and_o fruit_n unto_o these_o seven_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n consider_v the_o scripture_n express_v all_o one_o thing_n in_o substance_n express_v it_o in_o diverse_a place_n by_o diverse_a word_n and_o now_o with_o as_o we_o see_v that_o the_o carpenter_n axe_n or_o toll_n can_v do_v no_o work_n except_o it_o be_v handle_v of_o the_o workman_n and_o join_v to_o he_o by_o such_o handle_n or_o touch_v even_o so_o our_o soul_n be_v not_o move_v to_o the_o exercise_n of_o any_o of_o these_o seven_o gift_n except_o they_o be_v after_o some_o manner_n join_v to_o the_o holy_a ghost_n which_o must_v be_v by_o faith_n hope_n &_o charitye_n these_o be_v the_o very_a mean_n to_o join_v man_n to_o god_n &_o to_o all_o godly_a exercise_n therefore_o where_o these_o be_v not_o there_o the_o holy_a ghost_n do_v not_o inspire_v any_o of_o his_o seven_o gift_n example_n we_o have_v of_o s._n paul_n which_o though_o he_o be_v a_o vessel_n choose_v to_o be_v replenish_v with_o grace_n yet_o he_o have_v not_o his_o gift_n of_o grace_n forthwith_o after_o his_o stroke_n that_o he_o have_v as_o he_o be_v come_n unto_o damascus_n but_o he_o be_v three_o day_n stark_o blind_a and_o sore_o astony_v and_o afraid_a &_o by_o this_o fear_n with_o prayer_n &_o fast_v he_o be_v prepare_v to_o faith_n hope_n and_o charity_n &_o consequent_o to_o abundance_n and_o plenty_n of_o grace_n superad_v to_o the_o grace_n of_o faith_n hope_n &_o charitye_n then_o see_v that_o these_o three_o most_o necessary_a virtue_n be_v presuppose_v to_o the_o other_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n if_o i_o shall_v do_v quenadmodum_fw-la sapiens_fw-la architectus_fw-la like_o a_o wise_a master_n of_o the_o work_n i_o shall_v first_o entreat_v of_o they_o as_o to_o lay_v the_o foundation_n a_o fore_n i_o begin_v to_o garnish_v the_o over_o and_o high_a part_n of_o our_o spiritual_a building_n but_o because_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o you_o have_v oft_o and_o many_o time_n hear_v of_o they_o at_o large_a omit_v they_o as_o presuppose_v the_o foundation_n to_o be_v already_o sufficient_o lay_v i_o will_v descend_v to_o my_o principal_a purpose_n advertise_v you_o that_o who_o so_o ever_o lack_v the_o say_a grace_n of_o faith_n hope_n and_o charity_n and_o will_v not_o dispose_v himself_o by_o prayer_n to_o obtain_v they_o he_o shall_v unprofitable_o hear_v any_o preach_n of_o the_o foresay_a seven_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n then_o suppose_v the_o best_a that_o every_o one_o of_o we_o have_v they_o let_v we_o prosecute_v &_o proceed_v to_o entreat_v of_o these_o seven_o gift_n and_o first_o of_o the_o first_o gift_n that_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o sapience_n or_o the_o gift_n of_o sapience_n and_o because_o that_o after_o the_o mind_n of_o the_o logition_n where_o be_v any_o equivocation_n first_o we_o must_v make_v a_o distinction_n afore_o we_o give_v definition_n therefore_o it_o be_v to_o be_v note_v that_o sapience_n or_o wisdom_n be_v take_v four_o manner_n of_o apostle_n let_v he_o show_v that_o by_o his_o work_n in_o mansuetudine_fw-la sapientiae_fw-la curteisly_a tractable_o or_o gentle_o order_v his_o wisdom_n where_o contrary_a if_o you_o have_v bitter_a zeal_n and_o envy_n in_o your_o heart_n with_o strive_v and_o brawl_v you_o need_n not_o to_o be_v proud_a deceive_v not_o yourselves_o for_o though_o you_o think_v yourself_o never_o so_o wise_a and_o iolye_a fellow_n and_o thou_o scold_a woman_n never_o so_o iolye_a a_o dame_n yet_o this_o be_v not_o the_o wisdom_n that_o come_v from_o above_o from_o god_n almighty_a the_o giver_n of_o all_o goodness_n but_o this_o be_v earthly_a wisdom_n beastly_a wisdom_n and_o devilish_a wisdom_n where_o you_o have_v express_v four_o manner_n of_o wisdom_n wisdom_n that_o come_v from_o heaven_n of_o god_n gift_n and_o three_o other_o wisdom_n that_o come_v of_o our_o ghostly_a enemy_n let_v we_o exclude_v these_o three_o and_o we_o shall_v the_o soon_o perceyve_v understande_v and_o bear_v away_o what_o the_o godly_a wisdom_n be_v one_o of_o these_o three_o naughty_a wisdom_n s._n james_n call_v earthly_a wisdom_n and_o that_o be_v it_o that_o covetous_a man_n be_v cumber_v with_o all_o which_o be_v ever_o like_o want_n or_o mole_n moil_a in_o the_o ground_n and_o when_o they_o shall_v ascend_v above_o such_o worldliness_n to_o godly_a meditation_n as_o to_o here_o sermon_n or_o divine_a service_n they_o be_v as_o blind_a as_o the_o molle_fw-la either_o they_o can_v perceive_v any_o thing_n of_o godly_a or_o heavenly_a counsel_n or_o if_o they_o perceive_v it_o yet_o they_o have_v no_o swetenes_n in_o it_o but_o down_o they_o will_v headlong_o to_o their_o lucre_n and_o advauntage_n again_o like_v as_o a_o molle_fw-la if_o a_o man_n will_v feed_v she_o with_o wine_n and_o wastel_n she_o will_v none_o thereof_o but_o down_o again_o to_o the_o ground_n she_o will_v and_o there_o she_o be_v more_o strong_a they_o a_o lion_n and_o after_o her_o manner_n wise_a than_o a_o husbandman_n if_o he_o will_v give_v of_o go_v to_o ploughe_n because_o he_o see_v distemperaunce_n and_o troublous_a weather_n many_o time_n and_o lose_v his_o labour_n and_o cost_n we_o shall_v all_o dye_v for_o hunger_n likewise_o the_o shipman_n or_o the_o merchant_n if_o for_o one_o storm_n or_o twain_o or_o one_o loss_n or_o twain_o he_o shall_v abhor_v and_o give_v of_o go_v to_o the_o sea_n there_o will_v at_o the_o last_o no_o man_n aventure_n to_o the_o sea_n and_o then_o farewell_n this_o city_n of_o bristol_n and_o all_o good_a trade_n of_o marchaundyse_n and_o occupy_v by_o our_o labour_n for_o we_o have_v do_v that_o we_o be_v bind_v to_o do_v we_o have_v lay_v our_o lord_n money_n to_o usurye_n and_o for_o increase_n as_o he_o bid_v we_o do_v moreover_o consider_v that_o the_o devil_n never_o despayr_v our_o destruction_n but_o ever_o look_v for_o it_o without_o rest_n shall_v we_o despair_v the_o health_n &_o salvation_n of_o our_o brother_n christ_n that_o know_v well_o all_o thing_n that_o shall_v come_v after_o cease_v not_o to_o admonish_v and_o teach_v judas_n who_o he_o know_v will_v never_o be_v good_a them_z what_o shall_v we_o do_v towards_o faith_n the_o foundation_n and_o ground_n of_o all_o sure_a spiritual_a and_o ghostly_a building_n to_o help_v the_o say_a gift_n get_v natural_o or_o by_o assuefaction_n great_o avail_v this_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n the_o gift_n of_o counsel_n which_o be_v a_o supernatural_a gift_n of_o deliberation_n or_o advisement_n superad_v to_o that_o natural_a gift_n of_o reason_n of_o which_o
