worthy_a of_o a_o man_n other_o knowledge_n except_o they_o serve_v this_o they_o be_v but_o weariness_n and_o vanity_n for_o man_n be_v as_o miserable_a and_o sometime_o more_o when_o he_o have_v get_v their_o perfection_n as_o when_o he_o enter_v into_o their_o beginning_n and_o becauseit_n give_v a_o great_a light_n to_o man_n reparation_n to_o know_v how_o he_o come_v to_o have_v need_n of_o it_o and_o because_o it_o concern_v the_o glory_n of_o the_o creator_n to_o show_v that_o at_o first_o he_o create_v not_o misery_n and_o corruption_n therefore_o most_o fit_o do_v this_o doctrine_n begin_v with_o the_o first_o estate_n of_o man_n and_o the_o loss_n thereof_o even_o a_o create_a perfection_n and_o a_o purchase_a corruption_n a_o learning_n which_o all_o philosophy_n can_v never_o reach_v for_o she_o be_v the_o child_n of_o man_n and_o therefore_o can_v tell_v the_o beginning_n of_o her_o own_o father_n for_o man_n be_v before_o she_o be_v yea_o man_n be_v lose_v before_o she_o be_v find_v and_o so_o she_o which_o be_v since_o corruption_n can_v tell_v how_o that_o corruption_n come_v which_o be_v before_o she_o much_o less_o can_v she_o speak_v of_o that_o perfection_n which_o be_v again_o before_o this_o corruption_n but_o the_o truth_n be_v bid_v she_o find_v we_o and_o not_o know_v the_o cause_n she_o can_v never_o find_v the_o cure_n and_o therefore_o as_o she_o find_v we_o so_o she_o leave_v we_o miserable_a the_o art_n of_o happiness_n the_o second_o part._n which_o particular_o set_v forth_o the_o happiness_n of_o man_n and_o the_o restore_n of_o it_o when_o it_o be_v lose_v chap._n i._o of_o the_o creator_n and_o the_o creation_n and_o the_o purpose_n of_o the_o creator_n in_o the_o creation_n the_o creator_n be_v the_o begin_n of_o all_o thing_n and_o therefore_o must_v he_o needs_o be_v without_o beginning_n for_o from_o the_o thing_n which_o have_v their_o beginning_n of_o he_o himself_o can_v take_v beginning_n neither_o can_v he_o be_v his_o own_o beginning_n for_o that_o be_v to_o say_v he_o be_v before_o he_o be_v but_o god_n be_v a_o eternal_a essence_n that_o by_o himself_o uphold_v himself_o and_o all_o thing_n else_o for_o all_o other_o thing_n have_v no_o be_v of_o their_o own_o but_o they_o borrow_v their_o be_v from_o he_o and_o in_o he_o be_v their_o foundation_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n may_v he_o alone_o right_o because_o alone_o original_o say_v i_o be_o and_o as_o he_o be_v the_o fountain_n and_o beginning_n from_o which_o all_o thing_n flow_v so_o be_v he_o the_o end_n to_o which_o all_o thing_n return_v either_o by_o their_o own_o will_n conform_v to_o his_o will_n or_o by_o the_o overruling_a of_o his_o power_n which_o subdue_v the_o unwilling_a to_o his_o will_n and_o thus_o must_v it_o needs_o be_v for_o the_o creator_n be_v his_o own_o end_n in_o his_o creation_n and_o do_v all_o thing_n for_o himself_o if_o we_o allow_v not_o a_o creator_n we_o confess_v no_o author_n of_o the_o thing_n we_o see_v but_o either_o we_o make_v they_o eternal_a which_o be_v to_o make_v mean_a god_n and_o to_o deny_v the_o more_o excellent_a or_o we_o frame_v some_o imagination_n of_o our_o own_o to_o be_v their_o beginning_n which_o shall_v never_o fit_v with_o they_o so_o well_o as_o a_o wise_a powerful_a and_o eternal_a spirit_n and_o last_o we_o rob_v man_n soul_n of_o a_o true_a rest_n &_o happiness_n for_o if_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n have_v not_o some_o sovereign_a spirit_n to_o give_v it_o eternal_a bliss_n than_o be_v miserable_a man_n shut_v up_o unto_o this_o present_a life_n as_o unto_o his_o sovereign_a good_a into_o which_o a_o wise_a &_o good_a man_n will_v never_o re-enter_v if_o he_o be_v once_o well_o discharge_v of_o it_o let_v we_o then_o seek_v a_o god_n high_a than_o these_o visible_a thing_n and_o a_o happiness_n high_o than_o these_o miserable_a thing_n and_o let_v we_o not_o reason_n with_o the_o brutish_a sensualist_n he_o be_v not_o a_o god_n who_o we_o can_v see_v with_o our_o eye_n but_o let_v we_o say_v with_o the_o soul_n enlighten_v he_o be_v fit_a to_o be_v a_o god_n who_o pureness_n do_v excel_v the_o gross_a capacity_n of_o bodily_a sense_n for_o the_o pure_a the_o essence_n be_v the_o more_o fit_a to_o be_v a_o god_n and_o the_o more_o pure_a the_o more_o invisible_a to_o a_o gross_a and_o carnal_a sight_n let_v we_o therefore_o believe_v the_o creator_n to_o be_v a_o most_o clear_a lightsome_a and_o glorious_a spirit_n and_o to_o be_v see_v only_o by_o spirit_n and_o body_n sublimate_v into_o a_o spiritual_a kind_n of_o be_v this_o glorious_a &_o eternal_a spirit_n manife_v himself_o to_o our_o apprehension_n in_o three_o person_n the_o print_n and_o impression_n of_o each_o person_n be_v find_v in_o every_o creature_n and_o there_o be_v a_o absolute_a necessity_n that_o every_o one_o of_o the_o three_o shall_v concur_v in_o all_o creation_n the_o first_o in_o order_n of_o consideration_n though_o there_o be_v no_o first_o in_o order_n of_o time_n be_v the_o great_a and_o infinite_a mind_n or_o understanding_n which_o beget_v a_o great_a wisdom_n thought_n or_o word_n even_o the_o first_o and_o radical_a light_n the_o almighty_a begetter_n of_o the_o second_o light_n and_o this_o person_n be_v call_v god_n the_o father_n the_o second_o be_v the_o beget_v &_o second_o light_n even_o the_o wisdom_n &_o conceivement_n of_o the_o mind_n or_o understanding_n a_o image_n &_o issue_n thereof_o and_o this_o person_n be_v call_v god_n the_o son_n the_o three_o be_v the_o virtue_n &_o power_n which_o breathe_v or_o flow_v from_o the_o god_n head_n whereby_o god_n love_v and_o enjoy_v himself_o and_o put_v in_o execution_n whatsoever_o he_o will_v have_v do_v for_o himself_o and_o this_o person_n be_v call_v god_n the_o holy_a ghost_n these_o three_o be_v one_o god_n and_o do_v so_o necessary_o join_v in_o every_o creation_n that_o without_o any_o one_o of_o they_o nothing_o can_v be_v create_v for_o how_o can_v there_o be_v any_o creation_n but_o that_o the_o mind_n or_o father_n must_v beget_v a_o wise_a purpose_n by_o wisdom_n his_o son_n &_o what_o he_o have_v purpose_v and_o project_v by_o the_o son_n he_o must_v effect_v by_o the_o power_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n according_o this_o god_n who_o be_v the_o end_n of_o himself_o for_o himself_o intend_v and_o bring_v forth_o a_o creation_n to_o himself_o he_o will_v have_v glory_n and_o to_o his_o creature_n happiness_n yea_o this_o happiness_n of_o the_o creature_n shall_v be_v by_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o creator_n so_o in_o the_o glorify_v of_o god_n shall_v man_n and_o angel_n be_v glorify_v but_o on_o the_o contrary_a they_o that_o will_v not_o give_v glory_n to_o god_n shall_v not_o have_v happiness_n to_o themselves_o yet_o though_o unwilling_o shall_v they_o glorify_v he_o by_o serve_v his_o justice_n in_o misery_n who_o will_v not_o serve_v his_o goodness_n in_o felicity_n to_o effect_v this_o in_o six_o day_n god_n make_v this_o great_a mass_n of_o creature_n call_v the_o world_n which_o he_o fit_v for_o the_o service_n of_o man_n and_o man_n for_o the_o service_n of_o his_o god._n now_o as_o this_o great_a frame_n come_v from_o this_o one_o god_n so_o the_o infinite_a disagreeing_n of_o several_a part_n reconcile_v to_o a_o unity_n point_n to_o some_o great_a unity_n as_o the_o cause_n of_o this_o reconciliation_n which_o can_v deserve_v to_o be_v call_v by_o no_o other_o name_n then_o by_o a_o supreme_a and_o sovereign_a name_n and_o such_o a_o name_n be_v god_n again_o the_o infinite_a diversity_n of_o form_n and_o that_o large_a heap_n of_o matter_n neither_o of_o which_o be_v before_o and_o of_o which_o it_o be_v alike_o easy_a to_o the_o creator_n to_o make_v matter_n as_o form_n direct_v our_o eye_n to_o some_o great_a wisdom_n &_o power_n which_o can_v both_o invent_v and_o produce_v they_o yea_o more_fw-it near_o the_o drop_n and_o stream_n of_o wisdom_n pour_v into_o the_o creature_n in_o their_o several_a instinct_n and_o into_o man_n with_o his_o soul_n plain_o confess_v that_o there_o be_v some_o spring_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n from_o which_o these_o rivulet_n may_v flow_v and_o some_o infinite_a power_n which_o can_v actuate_v they_o into_o the_o creature_n and_o if_o so_o then_o necessary_o must_v we_o also_o allow_v some_o pure_a and_o infinite_a essence_n
impose_v a_o necessity_n on_o he_o to_o love_v the_o one_o and_o hate_v the_o other_o to_o lose_v the_o one_o and_o to_o gain_v the_o other_o therefore_o as_o much_o as_o we_o retain_v of_o this_o corrupt_a felicity_n so_o much_o do_v we_o abate_v of_o true_a happiness_n and_o the_o room_n that_o be_v give_v to_o the_o one_o be_v deny_v to_o the_o other_o and_o sure_o too_o true_a it_o be_v that_o even_o after_o our_o regeneration_n there_o abide_v a_o great_a remnant_n of_o our_o proud_a corruption_n it_o be_v of_o kin_n to_o the_o serpent_n which_o persuade_v it_o when_o the_o head_n of_o it_o be_v break_v in_o piece_n the_o tail_n will_v still_o be_v move_v and_o in_o what_o degree_n this_o corruption_n remain_v in_o that_o degree_n be_v grace_v abate_v but_o in_o what_o degree_n this_o swell_a evil_n be_v abate_v in_o the_o same_o degree_n be_v grace_n increase_v therefore_o if_o we_o be_v much_o proud_a we_o be_v much_o graceless_a if_o we_o be_v much_o humble_a we_o be_v much_o gracious_a wherefore_o let_v we_o take_v up_o humility_n which_o as_o a_o corrosive_n will_v fret_v away_o the_o proud_a flesh_n &_o make_v way_n for_o the_o prosperity_n of_o the_o lively_a and_o quicken_a spirit_n towards_o this_o let_v we_o consider_v that_o the_o natural_a man_n be_v stuff_v up_o with_o himself_o and_o not_o regard_v any_o thing_n beyond_o the_o lust_n and_o law_n of_o his_o own_o heart_n sit_v down_o in_o himself_o and_o take_v up_o his_o rest_n sabbath_n and_o felicity_n in_o his_o own_o imagination_n but_o while_o god_n be_v unregarded_a and_o unsought_a he_o also_o as_o little_a regard_v these_o unregarder_n yea_o he_o behold_v the_o proud_a a-far-off_a he_o know_v the_o weight_n and_o end_n of_o their_o swell_a that_o it_o be_v nothing_o that_o ere_o long_o it_o shall_v come_v to_o nothing_o and_o that_o at_o last_o these_o sweller_n must_v come_v before_o he_o as_o a_o judge_n who_o refuse_v he_o here_o for_o a_o saviour_n and_o happiness_n on_o the_o other_o side_n the_o spiritual_a man_n plain_o see_v that_o this_o imaginary_a happiness_n of_o pride_n be_v true_a misery_n since_o man_n the_o more_o he_o stand_v upon_o himself_o without_o god_n the_o more_o weak_o &_o wretched_o he_o stand_v and_o the_o full_a man_n be_v of_o himself_o the_o full_a be_v he_o of_o corruption_n vanity_n and_o misery_n therefore_o desire_v he_o to_o go_v out_o of_o himself_o into_o god_n &_o to_o unlade_v himself_o of_o himself_o that_o he_o may_v be_v fill_v with_o god_n he_o purge_v his_o heart_n of_o the_o tree_n of_o false_a knowledge_n that_o he_o may_v satiate_v it_o with_o the_o tree_n of_o life_n and_o humility_n have_v thus_o fulfil_v her_o work_n then_o enter_v grace_n into_o the_o soul_n so_o sweep_v and_o trim_v for_o the_o same_o god_n who_o resist_v the_o proud_a give_v grace_n to_o the_o humble_a god_n will_v be_v a_o welcome_a and_o not_o a_o fulsome_a guest_n he_o love_v not_o to_o come_v when_o there_o be_v no_o need_n of_o he_o he_o desire_v not_o to_o thrust_v unnecessary_a happiness_n upon_o man_n sufficient_o happy_a but_o the_o hungry_a soul_n he_o fill_v with_o good_a thing_n he_o guide_v the_o meek_a &_o humble_a in_o his_o way_n and_o the_o poor_a in_o spirit_n be_v allow_v only_o to_o receive_v the_o gospel_n these_o have_v set_v open_a their_o door_n to_o the_o king_n of_o glory_n they_o have_v forget_v their_o father_n house_n even_o their_o natural_a condition_n and_o therefore_o the_o lord_n have_v pleasure_n in_o their_o beauty_n his_o light_n take_v pleasure_n yea_o get_v glory_n in_o come_v into_o confess_a darkness_n his_o grace_n be_v delight_v and_o magnify_v by_o pardon_v and_o sanctify_v a_o acknowledge_a corruption_n and_o his_o blessedness_n rejoice_v in_o blessing_n apparent_a and_o desperate_a misery_n wherefore_o let_v we_o strive_v for_o a_o practical_a skill_n of_o this_o profitable_a humility_n that_o by_o not_o love_v ourselves_o we_o may_v love_v our_o soul_n best_o &_o by_o the_o great_a emptiness_n we_o may_v purchase_v the_o most_o true_a &_o happy_a fullness_n to_o this_o end_n let_v we_o ever_o be_v prick_v the_o tumor_n of_o our_o nature_n that_o we_o die_v not_o of_o a_o spiritual_a timpany_n let_v we_o strive_v to_o make_v ourselves_o nothing_o that_o he_o which_o make_v all_o thing_n of_o nothing_o may_v make_v something_o of_o us._n let_v we_o willing_o walk_v down_o into_o the_o vale_n of_o humility_n from_o whence_o god_n call_v for_o all_o who_o he_o exalt_v up_o to_o his_o holy_a mountain_n and_o for_o the_o furtherance_n of_o this_o holy_a virtue_n let_v watchfulness_n undertake_v as_o a_o special_a part_n of_o this_o task_n to_o mark_v the_o first_o swell_n of_o the_o heart_n that_o they_o may_v be_v abate_v as_o main_n matter_n of_o our_o life_n such_o as_o be_v our_o beginning_n and_o end_n whence_o we_o come_v and_o whither_o we_o go_v we_o be_v natural_o blind_a therefore_o our_o life_n be_v but_o a_o thing_n at_o random_n without_o know_v what_o it_o do_v and_o wherefore_o it_o be_v and_o if_o we_o have_v get_v a_o little_a knowledge_n then_o let_v we_o behold_v our_o filthiness_n how_o do_v we_o run_v round_o and_o the_o heaven_n stand_v still_o for_o there_o breathe_v up_o from_o the_o defile_a body_n even_o the_o earth_n of_o man_n a_o continual_a and_o mighty_a venom_n which_o by_o perpetual_a motion_n change_v the_o aspect_n and_o influence_n of_o the_o heavenly_a soul_n as_o itself_o lift_v but_o the_o while_o it_o fasten_v and_o nayl_v the_o soul_n that_o she_o can_v stir_v life_n of_o penitence_n seem_v to_o be_v nothing_o but_o a_o wash_n of_o that_o which_o be_v foul_v and_o a_o foul_n of_o that_o which_o be_v wash_v and_o if_o we_o turn_v our_o eye_n from_o this_o creator_n quiet_o see_v himself_o rob_v of_o his_o creature_n can_v he_o without_o indignation_n and_o jealousy_n behold_v a_o idol_n set_v up_o in_o his_o room_n or_o can_v he_o content_o look_v on_o pollution_n sit_v on_o the_o face_n of_o that_o soul_n wherein_o before_o with_o pleasure_n he_o behold_v his_o own_o resemblance_n no_o but_o much_o rather_o it_o be_v fit_a that_o a_o creature_n thus_o run_v away_o from_o his_o maker_n shall_v be_v brand_v with_o a_o curse_n for_o a_o vagabond_n that_o the_o new_a pride_n and_o godhead_n of_o the_o flesh_n shall_v be_v batter_v &_o abase_v outward_a and_o worldly_a object_n which_o lust_n turn_v into_o idol_n and_o false_a god_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n be_v by_o god_n turn_v into_o cursedness_n and_o this_o curse_n be_v so_o fasten_v that_o if_o man_n go_v about_o to_o repair_v it_o himself_o shall_v be_v swallow_v of_o it_o and_o become_v a_o prey_n to_o that_o which_o he_o will_v have_v destroy_v for_o man_n be_v take_v and_o enclose_v with_o the_o wrath_n of_o the_o almighty_a as_o a_o wild_a bull_n in_o a_o net_n or_o toil_n and_o wrestle_v can_v free_v he_o it_o may_v more_o entangle_v he_o and_o now_o assemble_v yourselves_o together_o all_o you_o philosopher_n and_o wizzard_n &_o behold_v man_n thus_o dress_v up_o in_o corruption_n and_o misery_n and_o heal_v he_o if_o you_o have_v any_o medicine_n and_o that_o man_n may_v the_o more_o hearty_o apply_v himself_o to_o your_o devise_a happiness_n and_o sovereign_a good_a by_o obscure_a groping_n you_o have_v discover_v in_o man_n a_o deceitful_a knowledge_n of_o good_a and_o evil_a and_o from_o this_o you_o will_v have_v free_v he_o by_o show_v he_o what_o be_v true_o good_a and_o true_o evil_a but_o the_o while_o you_o be_v all_o miserable_a comforter_n and_o all_o physician_n of_o no_o value_n man_n be_v real_o curse_a and_o he_o can_v be_v verbal_o heal_v be_v your_o word_n never_o so_o sweet_a and_o sententious_a yet_o man_n be_v still_o corrupt_a and_o curse_a in_o his_o very_a ground_n work_n and_o foundation_n you_o have_v no_o fit_a expiation_n for_o a_o guilt_n of_o so_o high_a a_o nature_n neither_o have_v you_o a_o expurgation_n of_o so_o foul_a a_o corruption_n indeed_o your_o charm_n may_v with_o their_o plesantnes_n bring_v man_n corruption_n into_o short_a slumber_n but_o it_o awake_v eftsoons_a and_o rage_v as_o before_o yea_o it_o never_o cease_v a_o continual_a opposition_n or_o aversion_n from_o and_o against_o the_o creator_n sure_o the_o root_n of_o this_o corruption_n lie_v fasten_v in_o the_o ground_n of_o nature_n and_o philosophy_n can_v pull_v it_o up_o but_o it_o must_v only_o be_v cure_v by_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o first_o creator_n therefore_o behold_v your_o folly_n you_o put_v restorative_n and_o those_o not_o true_a but_o feign_a into_o the_o mouth_n of_o a_o dead_a man_n and_o then_o you_o set_v he_o on_o his_o foot_n to_o see_v whether_o he_o will_v stand_v or_o walk_v but_o lo_o he_o be_v not_o raise_v above_o his_o wretched_a be_v in_o spite_n of_o your_o spell_n he_o fall_v down_o into_o his_o true_a station_n of_o vanity_n misery_n and_o death_n the_o hand_n of_o a_o giant_n have_v bind_v he_o &_o the_o voice_n of_o a_o child_n can_v never_o loose_v he_o chap._n iii_o how_o man_n be_v restore_v to_o happiness_n what_o shall_v then_o be_v do_v for_o this_o unhappy_a and_o wretched_a thing_n we_o find_v no_o balm_n on_o earth_n nor_o physic_n among_o the_o son_n of_o man_n misery_n have_v seize_v on_o this_o world_n and_o misery_n be_v far_o from_o be_v step_n in_o this_o path_n chalk_v out_o by_o the_o spirit_n for_o the_o spirit_n will_v both_o defend_v we_o in_o this_o way_n and_o at_o last_o bring_v we_o to_o the_o way_n end_n which_o be_v eternal_a felicity_n in_o this_o path_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v perpetual_a safety_n and_o protection_n the_o serpent_n can_v bite_v we_o and_o if_o he_o do_v bite_v his_o venom_n be_v turn_v into_o
