spiritual_a union_n of_o the_o faithful_a with_o jesus_n christ_n by_o the_o operation_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n as_o we_o have_v just_a now_o say_v as_o well_o in_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n as_o in_o baptism_n and_o the_o eucharist_n they_o conceive_v not_o at_o all_o this_o spiritual_a union_n any_o better_a than_o we_o nor_o explain_v themselves_o otherwise_o therein_o than_o we_o do_v and_o what_o they_o believe_v more_o than_o we_o in_o the_o sacrament_n to_o wit_n that_o they_o receive_v the_o proper_a body_n of_o jesus_n christ_n by_o the_o mouth_n of_o the_o body_n into_o their_o stomach_n do_v not_o add_v any_o thing_n at_o all_o according_a to_o their_o own_o principle_n either_o to_o effect_v or_o make_v understand_v this_o spiritual_a union_n which_o we_o have_v with_o jesus_n christ_n which_o be_v the_o only_a and_o true_a cause_n of_o our_o salvation_n for_o they_o do_v not_o deny_v that_o those_o who_o receive_v baptism_n without_o the_o word_n and_o without_o the_o eucharist_n or_o baptism_n and_o the_o word_n without_o the_o same_o eucharist_n may_v be_v save_v and_o unite_v perpetual_o unto_o jesus_n christ_n as_o well_o as_o they_o who_o receive_v also_o the_o eucharist_n neither_o do_v they_o say_v that_o the_o body_n of_o jesus_n christ_n which_o they_o do_v believe_v they_o receive_v into_o their_o stomach_n be_v unite_v unto_o their_o soul_n or_o unto_o their_o body_n by_o his_o presence_n nor_o even_o that_o the_o substance_n of_o their_o body_n or_o of_o their_o soul_n do_v touch_v the_o substance_n of_o the_o body_n of_o life_n and_o immortality_n by_o its_o virtue_n without_o pretend_v for_o all_o that_o that_o the_o substance_n of_o their_o soul_n or_o body_n do_v join_v or_o unite_v itself_o unto_o the_o substance_n of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n let_v we_o now_o see_v wherein_o the_o bishop_n of_o condom_n do_v pretend_v that_o we_o use_v equivocation_n or_o that_o we_o come_v and_o in_o the_o form_n of_o administer_a of_o baptism_n our_o catechism_n itself_o speak_v of_o the_o sacrament_n of_o baptism_n say_v indifferent_o in_o two_o place_n the_o substance_n and_o the_o virtue_n of_o baptism_n to_o signify_v the_o efficacy_n of_o it_o not_o any_o of_o the_o first_o age_n have_v say_v that_o jesus_n christ_n do_v give_v we_o the_o substance_n of_o his_o body_n and_o blood_n but_o some_o less_o ancient_a have_v say_v that_o he_o nourish_v and_o vivify_v we_o by_o his_o substance_n or_o that_o he_o give_v we_o a_o live_a substance_n meaning_n a_o quicken_a virtue_n allude_v unto_o that_o mystical_a expression_n i_o be_o the_o live_a bread_n 6._o joh._n 6._o this_o bread_n be_v my_o flesh_n which_o i_o will_v give_v for_o the_o life_n of_o the_o world_n when_o the_o author_n of_o our_o confession_n of_o faith_n and_o of_o our_o catechism_n use_v these_o sort_n of_o expression_n among_o many_o other_o it_o plain_o appear_v that_o they_o be_v not_o constrain_v so_o to_o do_v to_o conform_v themselves_o unto_o the_o scripture_n nor_o to_o the_o ancient_a father_n of_o the_o church_n who_o use_v they_o not_o at_o all_o but_o they_o do_v it_o doubtless_o to_o accommodate_v themselves_o therein_o to_o the_o use_n which_o the_o latter_a time_n have_v bring_v in_o and_o to_o show_v in_o different_a term_n the_o truth_n of_o this_o spiritual_a communion_n which_o we_o believe_v we_o have_v with_o jesus_n christ_n so_o as_o they_o explain_v it_o in_o the_o same_o place_n and_o we_o will_v make_v no_o scruple_n here_o to_o add_v that_o it_o be_v not_o simple_o the_o word_n of_o institution_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n which_o oblige_v we_o to_o speak_v in_o such_o effectual_a term_n because_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o the_o first_o aim_n of_o the_o word_n of_o institution_n be_v to_o recommend_v the_o commemoration_n of_o the_o death_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o it_o be_v also_o on_o one_o hand_n the_o tenor_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o general_n which_o do_v throughout_o inculcate_v a_o most_o intimate_a communion_n of_o the_o faithful_a with_o jesus_n christ_n say_v that_o we_o be_v flesh_n of_o his_o flesh_n ephâ—_n ephâ—_n and_o bone_n of_o his_o bone_n and_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n it_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o this_o sacrament_n which_o join_v to_o this_o divine_a word_n not_o only_o set_v forth_o this_o present_a and_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a to_o make_v understand_v that_o a_o body_n which_o be_v only_o spiritual_o communicate_v unto_o we_o and_o by_o faith_n can_v be_v real_o communicate_v unto_o we_o and_o in_o its_o proper_a substance_n but_o the_o reason_n why_o we_o can_v make_v you_o understand_v it_o be_v the_o prejudice_n which_o you_o will_v not_o lay_v aside_o upon_o this_o subject_n of_o the_o eucharist_n to_o wit_n that_o there_o be_v no_o real_a union_n nor_o participation_n if_o it_o be_v not_o physical_a that_o be_v to_o say_v if_o two_o body_n or_o two_o substance_n be_v not_o join_v or_o be_v not_o both_o together_o in_o one_o place_n which_o yet_o be_v a_o manifest_a error_n as_o if_o for_o example_n when_o we_o acquire_v a_o inheritance_n though_o
