principal_a design_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n and_o therefore_o to_o bring_v in_o any_o other_o mediator_n to_o intercede_v in_o heaven_n for_o we_o whether_o angel_n or_o saint_n and_o by_o they_o to_o offer_v up_o our_o prayer_n to_o god_n be_v direct_o contrary_a to_o the_o design_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n three_o it_o be_v likewise_o evident_a from_o the_o nature_n and_o reason_n of_o the_o thing_n itself_o that_o there_o be_v but_o one_o mediator_n and_o intercessor_n in_o heaven_n who_o offer_v up_o our_o prayer_n to_o god_n and_o that_o there_o can_v be_v no_o more_o because_o under_o the_o gospel_n there_o be_v but_o one_o high_a priest_n and_o but_o one_o sacrifice_n once_o offer_v for_o sin_n and_o intercession_n for_o sinner_n be_v found_v in_o the_o merit_n and_o virtue_n of_o the_o sacrifice_n by_o which_o expiation_n for_o sin_n be_v make_v there_o can_v be_v no_o other_o mediator_n of_o intercession_n but_o he_o who_o have_v make_v expiation_n of_o sin_n by_o a_o sacrifice_n offer_v to_o god_n for_o that_o purpose_n and_o this_o jesus_n christ_n only_o have_v do_v he_o be_v both_o our_o high_a priest_n and_o our_o sacrifice_n and_o therefore_o he_o only_o in_o the_o merit_n and_o virtue_n of_o that_o sacrifice_n which_o he_o offer_v upon_o earth_n can_v intercede_v in_o heaven_n for_o we_o and_o offer_v up_o our_o prayer_n to_o god_n other_o may_v pray_v to_o god_n for_o we_o as_o our_o brethren_n upon_o earth_n do_v and_o perhaps_o the_o angel_n and_o saint_n in_o heaven_n but_o none_o of_o these_o can_v offer_v up_o our_o prayer_n to_o god_n and_o procure_v the_o acceptance_n of_o they_o for_o that_o can_v only_o be_v do_v in_o virtue_n of_o a_o sacrifice_n first_o offer_v and_o by_o he_o that_o offer_v it_o this_o be_v the_o peculiar_a office_n and_o qualification_n of_o a_o mediator_n or_o intercessor_n proper_o so_o call_v it_o be_v the_o plain_a design_n of_o the_o author_n of_o the_o epistle_n to_o the_o hebrew_n to_o prove_v that_o christ_n be_v our_o only_a mediator_n in_o heaven_n in_o virtue_n of_o that_o sacrifice_n for_o sin_n which_o he_o offer_v upon_o earth_n and_o that_o he_o alone_o appear_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n for_o we_o to_o present_v our_o request_n to_o he_o and_o obtain_v a_o gracious_a answer_n of_o they_o and_o he_o show_v at_o large_a how_o this_o be_v particular_o typify_v by_o the_o jewish_a high_a priest_n who_o upon_o the_o great_a day_n of_o expiation_n after_o the_o sacrifice_n be_v slay_v without_o enter_v alone_o into_o the_o holy_a of_o holies_n with_o the_o blood_n of_o the_o sacrifice_n in_o virtue_n whereof_o he_o make_v intercession_n for_o the_o people_n answerable_a to_o this_o jesus_n the_o high_a priest_n of_o our_o profession_n offer_v himself_o a_o sacrifice_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o man_n and_o in_o virtue_n of_o that_o sacrifice_n be_v enter_v into_o the_o high_a place_v not_o make_v with_o hand_n that_o be_v reason_n it_o be_v that_o the_o mediation_n and_o intercession_n of_o christ_n be_v so_o frequent_o in_o scripture_n mention_v together_o with_o the_o expiation_n which_o he_o make_v for_o the_o sin_n of_o man_n or_o which_o be_v the_o same_o with_o the_o price_n which_o he_o pay_v for_o the_o redemption_n of_o mankind_n because_o the_o one_o be_v found_v in_o the_o other_o and_o depend_v upon_o it_o so_o we_o find_v 1_o john_n 2.1_o 2._o if_o any_o man_n sin_n we_o have_v a_o advocate_n with_o the_o father_n jesus_n christ_n the_o righteous_a and_o he_o be_v the_o propitiation_n for_o our_o sin_n and_o not_o for_o we_o only_o but_o also_o for_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o whole_a world_n and_o here_o likewise_o in_o the_o text_n there_o be_v one_o mediator_n between_o god_n and_o man_n the_o man_n christ_n jesus_n who_o give_v himself_o a_o ransom_n for_o all_o therefore_o the_o only_a mediator_n between_o god_n and_o man_n because_o he_o only_o give_v himself_o a_o ransom_n for_o all_o true_a that_o christ_n be_v the_o only_a mediator_n of_o redemption_n but_o there_o may_v be_v many_o mediator_n of_o intercession_n for_o if_o the_o force_n of_o his_o be_v advocate_n or_o intercessor_n be_v found_v in_o the_o virtue_n of_o his_o ransom_n and_o propitiation_n as_o i_o have_v plain_o show_v to_o the_o conviction_n of_o any_o that_o be_v not_o strong_o prejudice_v and_o that_o will_v read_v and_o consider_v what_o the_o scripture_n say_v in_o this_o matter_n without_o prepossession_n than_o it_o be_v plain_a that_o none_o can_v be_v a_o proper_a mediator_n of_o intercession_n but_o he_o that_o pay_v the_o price_n of_o our_o redemption_n so_o that_o the_o mediator_n of_o our_o redemption_n and_o our_o mediator_n of_o intercession_n must_v of_o necessity_n be_v one_o and_o the_o same_o person_n and_o none_o can_v appear_v in_o the_o quality_n of_o our_o advocate_n with_o the_o father_n but_o he_o only_o who_o be_v the_o propitiation_n for_o the_o sin_n
