forbear_v the_o performance_n of_o it_o as_o suppose_v prayer_n or_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n or_o come_v to_o the_o word_n or_o any_o other_o holy_a duty_n and_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o doubt_n be_v because_o when_o any_o man_n or_o woman_n be_v conscientious_a they_o think_v with_o themselves_o that_o they_o must_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n now_o if_o they_o can_v find_v their_o heart_n in_o a_o fit_a disposition_n to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n they_o be_v ready_a to_o think_v thus_o be_v it_o not_o better_a to_o neglect_v his_o duty_n and_o lay_v it_o aside_o for_o the_o present_a will_v god_n accept_v of_o a_o duty_n when_o i_o perform_v it_o and_o be_o not_o fit_a for_o it_o therefore_o for_o the_o answer_n to_o this_o because_o holy_a duty_n there_o have_v not_o be_v a_o more_o secret_a willingness_n of_o the_o heart_n to_o let_v the_o duty_n go_v than_o a_o sorrow_n of_o the_o heart_n because_o you_o be_v not_o fit_a for_o the_o duty_n this_o be_v a_o very_a evil_a sign_n that_o the_o heart_n be_v very_o much_o distemper_v those_o that_o be_v godly_a indeed_o when_o they_o find_v not_o their_o heart_n prepare_v for_o the_o duty_n it_o be_v the_o trouble_n of_o their_o soul_n it_o be_v that_o that_o go_v near_o to_o their_o heart_n when_o they_o think_v with_o themselves_o that_o they_o be_v now_o like_a to_o lose_v a_o duty_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n they_o be_v now_o like_a to_o lose_v their_o communion_n with_o god_n in_o a_o holy_a duty_n they_o even_o look_v upon_o themselves_o in_o a_o evil_a case_n in_o regard_n of_o this_o and_o it_o make_v they_o watchful_a for_o time_n to_o come_v to_o take_v heed_n of_o those_o thing_n that_o have_v put_v they_o in_o such_o a_o unpreparation_n as_o they_o find_v their_o heart_n to_o be_v in_o at_o this_o time_n now_o if_o it_o be_v so_o with_o thou_o it_o be_v a_o good_a sign_n that_o thy_o heart_n may_v be_v upright_o with_o god_n though_o through_o infirmity_n it_o come_v at_o such_o a_o time_n to_o be_v unprepared_a for_o the_o duty_n but_o yet_o suppose_v i_o find_v i_o be_o not_o prepare_v i_o be_o grieve_v and_o trouble_v at_o it_o for_o that_o must_v be_v premise_v whether_o be_v i_o better_a to_o leave_v the_o duty_n for_o this_o time_n than_o to_o fall_v upon_o it_o in_o such_o a_o unpreparation_n as_o this_o be_v now_o for_o the_o answer_n to_o this_o question_n 1_o first_o that_o which_o i_o will_v answer_v to_o it_o be_v this_o the_o omission_n of_o a_o duty_n or_o the_o lay_n of_o a_o duty_n aside_o will_v never_o fit_v the_o soul_n for_o a_o duty_n afterward_o it_o be_v no_o way_n to_o make_v thy_o soul_n more_o fit_a afterward_o because_o thou_o have_v lay_v it_o aside_o now_o for_o the_o present_a do_v but_o observe_v your_o own_o heart_n that_o way_n and_o you_o will_v find_v this_o by_o experience_n such_o a_o time_n you_o have_v be_v bu●e_a in_o the_o world_n and_o occasion_n have_v hinder_v you_o so_o as_o your_o heart_n be_v out_o of_o temper_n and_o frame_v for_o a_o duty_n you_o lay_v it_o aside_o now_o be_v you_o more_o f●t_o the_o next_o day_n if_o you_o do_v neglect_v duty_n in_o the_o morning_n upon_o any_o business_n be_v you_o fit_a to_o perform_v duty_n at_o night_n because_o of_o it_o ●_o you_o will_v not_o find_v it_o to_o be_v so_o the_o forbear_v a_o duty_n now_o will_v not_o make_v the_o soul_n fit_a for_o a_o duty_n afterward_o ●●erefore_o it_o be_v no_o wisdom_n to_o forbear_v a_o duty_n for_o want_n of_o preparation_n because_o the_o forbearance_n will_v never_o help_v to_o further_a preparation_n but_o will_v make_v the_o soul_n more_o unfit_a for_o duty_n it_o be_v a_o excellent_a speech_n that_o i_o read_v that_o luther_n have_v concern_v himself_o i_o have_v learn_v this_o by_o experience_n that_o the_o often_o i_o do_v omit_v duty_n the_o often_o do_v i_o make_v myself_o the_o more_o unfit_a for_o duty_n and_o cause_n i_o have_v to_o abhor_v myself_o it_o be_v not_o the_o defer_v that_o make_v thou_o the_o more_o fit_a 2_o therefore_o consider_v that_o this_o be_v but_o a_o temptation_n and_o that_o be_v the_o second_o thing_n that_o i_o will_v propound_v to_o those_o that_o shall_v omit_v a_o duty_n because_o they_o be_v not_o prepare_v that_o this_o be_v but_o a_o temptation_n to_o keep_v thou_o from_o it_o to_o tell_v thou_o that_o thou_o be_v not_o prepare_v and_o if_o thou_o shall_v forbear_v it_o because_o thou_o be_v not_o prepare_v in_o this_o thing_n thou_o do_v gratify_v the_o devil_n and_o the_o devil_n have_v what_o he_o will_v have_v and_o so_o will_v be_v encourage_v to_o tempt_v thou_o another_o time_n because_o he_o have_v now_o what_o he_o will_v have_v in_o cause_v thou_o to_o forbear_v the_o duty_n first_o he_o labour_v to_o unfit_a thou_o for_o it_o and_o then_o he_o tempt_v thou_o to_o forbear_v it_o because_o thou_o be_v unfit_a this_o

consider_v that_o thou_o come_v to_o a_o merciful_a god_n and_o what_o shall_v this_o work_v first_o it_o shall_v make_v i_o come_v joyful_o into_o his_o presence_n as_o a_o god_n that_o be_v willing_a to_o do_v good_a to_o his_o poor_a creature_n that_o be_v in_o misery_n second_o it_o shall_v make_v i_o to_o come_v with_o a_o heart_n senciable_a of_o the_o need_n of_o this_o mercy_n o_o lord_n i_o have_v have_v my_o heart_n let_v out_o to_o other_o vain_a thing_n heretofore_o but_o now_o lord_n thy_o mercy_n it_o be_v that_o my_o soul_n come_v for_o as_o that_o wherein_o my_o chief_n great_a the_o thing_n be_v that_o we_o come_v to_o god_n for_o the_o more_o welcome_a be_v we_o into_o god_n presence_n and_o those_o that_o be_v acquaint_v with_o god_n they_o know_v it_o and_o therefore_o they_o come_v the_o more_o full_o when_o they_o come_v to_o ask_v jesus_n christ_n himself_o and_o his_o spirit_n that_o be_v more_o worth_a than_o ten_o thousand_o world_n they_o come_v with_o more_o freedom_n of_o spirit_n than_o when_o they_o come_v to_o ask_v their_o health_n and_o the_o like_a four_o it_o will_v be_v likewise_o another_o mean_n of_o sanctify_v this_o attribute_n for_o all_o that_o never_o regard_v to_o avoid_v those_o thing_n that_o may_v hinder_v the_o work_n of_o his_o grace_n upon_o i_o 11_o consider_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n that_o be_v another_o attribute_n consider_v that_o thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o a_o infinite_a righteous_a and_o just_a god_n do_v not_o think_v that_o if_o thou_o be_v a_o believer_n that_o thou_o have_v nothing_o to_o do_v with_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n for_o certain_o thou_o be_v to_o sanctify_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n now_o you_o will_v say_v how_o shall_v a_o believer_n sanctify_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n thus_o first_o he_o shall_v be_v apprehensive_a and_o sensible_a how_o by_o sin_n he_o have_v put_v himself_o under_o justice_n and_o deserve_v the_o stroke_n of_o justice_n to_o be_v upon_o he_o to_o eternity_n he_o shall_v consider_v what_o he_o be_v in_o himself_o it_o be_v true_a that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v come_v between_o a_o believe_a soul_n and_o the_o justice_n of_o the_o father_n and_o have_v take_v the_o stroke_n of_o justice_n upon_o himself_o yea_o but_o though_o he_o have_v do_v it_o it_o do_v not_o hinder_v but_o that_o thou_o shall_v be_v apprehensive_a of_o what_o thou_o have_v deserve_v thyself_o second_o here_o be_v a_o special_a thing_n in_o the_o sanctify_a of_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n when_o we_o come_v before_o he_o we_o shall_v consider_v that_o we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o a_o infinite_a just_a god_n and_o therefore_o not_o to_o dare_v to_o come_v but_o through_o a_o mediator_n here_o you_o have_v the_o reason_n why_o we_o must_v tender_v up_o all_o in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n because_o when_o we_o be_v to_o come_v before_o god_n we_o be_v to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o his_o justice_n for_o thou_o to_o think_v thus_o i_o have_v sin_v and_o god_n be_v merciful_a and_o i_o will_v go_v and_o pray_v to_o he_o that_o he_o may_v be_v merciful_a and_o there_o be_v a_o end_n be_v this_o all_o oh_o no_o god_n require_v the_o sanctify_a of_o his_o justice_n and_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o do_v sanctify_v his_o justice_n so_o much_o as_o this_o that_o when_o a_o poor_a creature_n see_v the_o infinite_a distance_n that_o sin_n have_v make_v between_o that_o infinite_a god_n and_o it_o it_o see_v that_o through_o sin_n it_o have_v make_v its_o self_n liable_a to_o justice_n and_o when_o it_o see_v that_o there_o be_v a_o absolute_a necessity_n that_o infinite_a justice_n must_v have_v satisfaction_n and_o think_v the_o sinner_n if_o it_o come_v to_o i_o that_o i_o must_v satisfy_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n i_o be_o never_o able_a to_o do_v it_o but_o there_o be_v a_o mediator_n and_o therefore_o i_o will_v fly_v to_o he_o and_o by_o faith_n tender_v up_o to_o the_o father_n all_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o son_n as_o a_o full_a satisfaction_n to_o his_o infinite_a justice_n when_o thou_o come_v thus_o before_o the_o lord_n thou_o sanctife_v his_o name_n indeed_o many_o think_v that_o when_o they_o come_v to_o pray_v they_o shall_v look_v upon_o god_n grace_n and_o mercy_n and_o not_o upon_o his_o justice_n but_o thou_o must_v look_v upon_o both_o another_o attribute_n it_o be_v god_n faithfulness_n consider_v thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o a_o god_n of_o infinite_a truth_n and_o faithfulness_n and_o therefore_o look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o object_n of_o thy_o faith_n to_o rest_v upon_o and_o likewise_o thou_o must_v bring_v a_o faithful_a heart_n suitable_a some_o way_n to_o this_o faithfulness_n of_o god_n that_o be_v a_o heart_n faithful_a with_o he_o to_o keep_v within_o the_o covenant_n that_o thou_o have_v enter_v into_o and_o to_o perform_v all_o the_o vow_n that_o thou_o make_v with_o god_n remember_v thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o a_o faithful_a god_n and_o as_o the_o lord_n delight_v to_o manifest_v his_o righteousness_n to_o poor_a creature_n that_o seek_v his_o face_n so_o this_o god_n do_v expect_v that_o thou_o shall_v be_v faithful_a in_o all_o the_o covenant_n that_o thou_o do_v make_v with_o he_o and_o this_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n now_o then_o put_v all_o these_o attribute_n of_o god_n together_o and_o there_o you_o have_v his_o glory_n the_o infinitness_n of_o his_o glory_n the_o shine_n and_o lustre_n of_o all_o the_o attribute_n together_o be_v god_n glory_n i_o have_v then_o to_o deal_v with_o a_o glorious_a god_n and_o let_v i_o labour_n to_o perform_v such_o service_n as_o many_o have_v a_o spiritual_a glory_n upon_o they_o that_o some_o image_n of_o the_o divine_a lustre_n that_o there_o be_v in_o god_n may_v be_v upon_o my_o service_n and_o let_v i_o look_v for_o glorious_a thing_n see_v i_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o such_o a_o glorious_a god_n you_o will_v say_v here_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o do_v in_o serve_v of_o god_n how_o much_o be_v here_o that_o we_o must_v do_v i_o appeal_v to_o any_o gracious_a heart_n what_o can_v thou_o want_v of_o any_o of_o these_o or_o what_o will_v thou_o want_v do_v thou_o say_v here_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n can_v there_o be_v too_o much_o to_o make_v thou_o happy_a these_o thing_n be_v not_o only_o thy_o duty_n but_o thy_o happiness_n glory_n and_o particular_a my_o brethren_n there_o be_v no_o such_o way_n to_o honour_n god_n or_o get_v good_a to_o your_o own_o soul_n as_o the_o application_n of_o the_o word_n unto_o yourselves_o as_o a_o man_n that_o be_v asleep_a if_o there_o be_v annoise_n make_v it_o will_v not_o awake_v he_o so_o soon_o but_o come_v and_o call_v he_o by_o his_o name_n and_o say_v john_n or_o thomas_n and_o that_o will_v awake_v he_o soon_o than_o a_o great_a noise_n will_v so_o when_o the_o word_n make_v a_o noise_n when_o it_o be_v deliver_v only_o in_o the_o general_n man_n take_v little_a notice_n of_o it_o but_o when_o the_o word_n come_v particular_o to_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n and_o do_v as_o it_o be_v call_v they_o by_o name_n thy_o awaken_v they_o now_o god_n many_o time_n do_v speak_v to_o your_o heart_n but_o you_o shall_v apply_v it_o you_o know_v the_o word_n be_v compare_v to_o meat_n and_o it_o must_v be_v apply_v to_o the_o body_n then_o do_v we_o worship_v god_n in_o a_o right_a way_n when_o as_o we_o take_v notice_n of_o god_n word_n as_o concern_v we_o in_o particular_a as_o that_o notable_a scripture_n that_o you_o have_v in_o 1_o cor._n 14.25_o where_o there_o come_v a_o poor_a
