their_o excuse_n answer_v who_o allege_v other_o incredulity_n they_o excuse_v themselves_o by_o allege_v the_o incredulity_n and_o suspicion_n of_o other_o which_o be_v such_o that_o unless_o they_o swear_v they_o can_v be_v credit_v and_o believe_v but_o unto_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o the_o best_a way_n to_o have_v our_o word_n credit_v be_v not_o to_o confirm_v every_o thing_n we_o speak_v with_o a_o oath_n for_o so_o our_o oath_n become_v common_a and_o ordinary_a will_v be_v as_o little_o respect_v as_o a_o simple_a affirmation_n nay_o in_o truth_n they_o will_v deserve_v less_o credit_n for_o it_o be_v to_o be_v think_v that_o he_o who_o make_v no_o conscience_n of_o transgress_v one_o commandment_n will_v not_o make_v much_o more_o conscience_n of_o transgress_v another_o he_o that_o stick_v not_o to_o use_v deieration_n and_o vain_a swear_n will_v not_o stick_v at_o perjury_n and_o forswear_n or_o if_o he_o do_v it_o be_v not_o because_o he_o want_v a_o heart_n to_o do_v it_o but_o rather_o some_o strong_a inducement_n to_o persuade_v he_o but_o the_o best_a way_n to_o have_v our_o speech_n credit_v be_v to_o accustom_v our_o tongue_n to_o speak_v the_o truth_n and_o to_o be_v of_o a_o upright_o just_a and_o unblameable_a life_n and_o conversation_n and_o so_o shall_v our_o word_n be_v more_o regard_v than_o another_o oath_n for_o it_o be_v not_o the_o oath_n that_o give_v credit_n and_o authority_n to_o a_o man_n but_o a_o man_n to_o his_o oath_n and_o if_o in_o our_o whole_a course_n and_o carriage_n we_o clear_o show_v that_o we_o make_v more_o conscience_n of_o lie_v than_o another_o of_o perjury_n his_o oath_n will_v not_o be_v so_o much_o credit_v as_o our_o bare_a promise_n or_o assertion_n whereby_o it_o appear_v that_o ordinary_a swear_n be_v either_o needless_a or_o bootless_a for_o if_o a_o man_n be_v of_o a_o holy_a and_o religious_a conversation_n there_o will_v be_v no_o use_n of_o it_o unless_o it_o be_v in_o weighty_a cause_n wherein_o a_o oath_n be_v lawful_a because_o his_o word_n will_v carry_v with_o it_o sufficient_a credit_n and_o contrariwise_o if_o he_o be_v know_v to_o have_v accustom_v himself_o to_o lie_v dissemble_a and_o false_a deal_n his_o swear_n will_v not_o profit_v he_o see_v his_o unconscionable_a falsehood_n do_v take_v away_o all_o credit_n and_o authority_n from_o his_o oath_n but_o let_v it_o be_v suppose_v that_o though_o we_o be_v just_a and_o faithful_a 8._o §._o sect._n 8._o we_o can_v be_v credit_v unless_o we_o swear_v yet_o this_o give_v we_o no_o dispensation_n for_o oath_n in_o light_n or_o needless_a occasion_n see_v we_o be_v rather_o to_o obey_v our_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n commandment_n who_o have_v forbid_v we_o to_o swear_v in_o our_o ordinary_a communication_n then_o by_o vain_a swear_v to_o gain_v credit_n to_o our_o speech_n or_o to_o satisfy_v such_o suspicious_a and_o incredulous_a person_n who_o will_v not_o believe_v we_o without_o a_o oath_n for_o hereby_o we_o shall_v approve_v our_o obedience_n to_o god_n by_o make_v conscience_n of_o transgress_v his_o law_n
