highway_n can_v enter_v to_o take_v root_n for_o growth_n and_o consequent_o lie_v open_a to_o be_v both_o tread_v to_o piece_n by_o passenger_n and_o peck_v up_o by_o bird_n must_v needs_o be_v like_a to_o so_o much_o cast_v away_o such_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o saint_n matthew_n say_v hear_v but_o not_o understand_v because_o the_o hearer_n do_v not_o ask_v his_o spiritual_a adviser_n the_o meaning_n of_o what_o be_v tell_v he_o but_o pretend_v to_o be_v satisfy_v therein_o when_o indeed_o he_o carry_v away_o the_o only_a empty_a sound_n of_o word_n but_o be_v whole_o ignorant_a of_o the_o sense_n through_o his_o own_o laziness_n in_o not_o ask_v the_o meaning_n thereof_o and_o consequent_o what_o be_v thus_o ignorant_o receive_v be_v not_o understand_v and_o by_o eloquence_n not_o divine_a preach_v to_o see_v and_o to_o be_v see_v not_o to_o hear_v their_o fault_n and_o amend_v they_o to_o laugh_v indeed_o at_o the_o preacher_n if_o he_o please_v not_o the_o pallate_n of_o their_o fancy_n or_o curious_a ear_n as_o those_o do_v to_o who_o for_o that_o very_a reason_n christ_n speak_v parable_n not_o clear_a sense_n and_o to_o such_o as_o these_o be_v the_o preacher_n word_n never_o so_o clear_a never_o so_o easy_a they_o sound_v as_o parable_n in_o his_o ear_n who_o own_o distract_a mind_n rob_v he_o of_o the_o faculty_n of_o understanding_n what_o he_o hear_v and_o though_o such_o man_n seem_v to_o come_v to_o god_n when_o they_o appear_v in_o church_n yet_o in_o very_a truth_n their_o come_n be_v to_o the_o devil_n in_o god_n house_n and_o no_o marvel_n than_o he_o carry_v they_o and_o their_o understanding_n away_o with_o he_o lest_o hear_v that_o be_v intelligent_o hear_v they_o believe_v and_o believe_a plough_n up_o the_o highway_n sufficient_a without_o good_a work_n to_o save_v they_o and_o that_o soul_n though_o once_o in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n may_v nevertheless_o loose_v his_o favour_n and_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n too_o 7._o 14._o the_o second_o reason_n of_o fail_v be_v for_o want_v of_o ground_n to_o take_v sufficient_a root_n and_o to_o cherish_v the_o seed_n in_o both_o which_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v defect_n of_o intrinsical_a requisite_n now_o this_o three_o reason_n point_v at_o what_o be_v extrinsecal_o necessary_a and_o rather_o at_o defect_n of_o redundance_n than_o of_o want_n because_o the_o
the_o apostle_n say_v here_o of_o prophecy_n fail_v be_v to_o be_v understand_v that_o they_o fail_v not_o as_o defective_a in_o reveal_v truth_n but_o as_o not_o right_o understand_v by_o those_o to_o who_o they_o do_v reveal_v the_o same_o through_o the_o defect_n of_o our_o capacity_n to_o hard_a and_o abstruse_a point_n note_v the_o possible_a fail_v of_o tongue_n be_v here_o on_o purpose_n express_v in_o the_o plural_a number_n as_o allude_v to_o the_o cessation_n of_o the_o gift_n of_o many_o tongue_n which_o even_o now_o be_v cease_v and_o be_v so_o long_o since_o not_o that_o the_o power_n in_o god_n of_o give_v such_o gift_n again_o be_v lose_v but_o that_o there_o be_v not_o the_o like_a necessity_n thereof_o as_o in_o the_o primitive_a church_n but_o we_o may_v observe_v he_o do_v not_o say_v the_o tongue_n shall_v possible_o cease_v but_o tongue_n or_o the_o plurality_n thereof_o for_o it_o be_v a_o common_a opinion_n among_o divine_n that_o all_o man_n in_o heaven_n as_o they_o have_v their_o body_n there_o so_o they_o shall_v have_v the_o use_n of_o their_o tongue_n and_o speak_v to_o one_o another_o but_o so_o as_o they_o shall_v all_o speak_v one_o and_o that_o the_o hebrew_n tongue_n the_o most_o perfect_a expresser_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o that_o which_o adam_n speak_v in_o the_o state_n of_o innocency_n and_o all_o the_o ancient_a patriarch_n before_o the_o destruction_n of_o babylon_n confound_v the_o tongue_n and_o likewise_o the_o prophet_n sing_v as_o in_o the_o apocalypse_v amen_o allelujah_o though_o some_o think_v it_o not_o improbable_a they_o shall_v rather_o than_o want_v the_o use_n of_o speech_n have_v a_o new_a language_n create_v common_a to_o they_o all_o and_o more_o perfect_a yet_o than_o hebrew_n for_o thus_o all_o shall_v yet_o even_o this_o be_v rather_o preservation_n by_o addition_n than_o destruction_n by_o substraction_n let_v we_o therefore_o say_v yet_o further_o science_n shall_v be_v destroy_v as_o it_o import_v here_o teach_v and_o learn_v which_o there_o shall_v cease_v since_o no_o man_n can_v teach_v nor_o no_o man_n learn_v in_o heaven_n any_o new_a science_n to_o conclude_v let_v we_o grant_v 10._o see_v how_o still_o the_o succeed_a verse_n in_o term_n avow_v the_o explication_n of_o the_o precedent_n when_o perfect_a intuition_n come_v then_o imperfe_a exhibition_n shall_v cease_v when_o god_n in_o his_o own_o and_o sole_a perfect_a self_n shall_v appear_v than_o creature_n who_o show_v he_o only_o in_o part_n shall_v need_v no_o more_o to_o make_v their_o imperfect_a exhibition_n of_o he_o or_o when_o we_o see_v the_o creature_n perfect_o in_o god_n than_o the_o imperfection_n we_o do_v see_v of_o they_o in_o themselves_o shall_v cease_v 11._o in_o this_o verse_n he_o illustrate_v by_o a_o similitude_n of_o a_o child_n or_o little_a one_o in_o respect_n of_o a_o man_n what_o he_o say_v in_o the_o former_a and_o make_v the_o science_n prophecy_n or_o perfection_n science_n when_o he_o be_v a_o man_n which_o be_v as_o much_o as_o to_o say_v most_o of_o all_o our_o science_n here_o be_v but_o as_o knowledge_n of_o sense_n and_o not_o indeed_o intellectual_a because_o not_o ground_v in_o certitude_n of_o principle_n but_o in_o apparence_n only_o of_o truth_n and_o cause_n which_o though_o they_o do_v not_o yet_o for_o any_o thing_n we_o know_v they_o may_v fail_v we_o even_o when_o we_o think_v ourselves_o most_o certain_a of_o truth_n therein_o 12._o some_o will_v have_v s._n paul_n to_o allow_v clear_a intuition_n of_o god_n here_o by_o his_o confess_v we_o see_v he_o at_o least_o in_o a_o glass_n because_o glass_n do_v represent_v the_o real_a thing_n and_o not_o the_o picture_n only_o thereof_o which_o be_v true_a but_o withal_o they_o represent_v the_o thing_n in_o a_o reflect_v not_o in_o a_o direct_a line_n and_o hence_o we_o see_v nothing_o so_o perfect_o in_o a_o glass_n as_o when_o we_o look_v direct_o on_o the_o object_n itself_o again_o hence_o we_o never_o see_v nor_o know_v so_o much_o of_o ourselves_o as_o we_o do_v of_o other_o because_o we_o see_v not_o our_o own_o shape_n so_o direct_o in_o a_o glass_n as_o we_o do_v other_o out_o of_o it_o by_o look_v on_o their_o person_n direct_o other_o understand_v s._n paul_n to_o mean_v by_o a_o glass_n here_o our_o see_a god_n in_o a_o confuse_a way_n as_o mercer_n show_v a_o multitude_n of_o ware_n together_o to_o distract_v the_o eye_n of_o the_o buyer_n or_o as_o if_o they_o be_v show_v by_o false_a light_n give_v they_o other_o lustre_n than_o apprehend_v he_o or_o christ_n his_o humanity_n best_o of_o all_o express_v his_o goodness_n yet_o infinite_o short_a thereof_o or_o as_o some_o will_v have_v it_o in_o the_o sacrament_n which_o be_v
