love_a physician_n unto_o his_o sick_a disease_a patient_n to_o who_o he_o have_v former_o administer_v some_o bitter_a pill_n or_o unpleasing_a potion_n the_o lord_n before_o threaten_a to_o reject_v the_o laodicean_n for_o their_o lukewarmness_n whereupon_o lest_o they_o shall_v altogether_o despair_v of_o regain_n his_o love_n and_o favour_n he_o do_v prevent_v their_o fear_n by_o tell_v of_o they_o that_o his_o correct_v of_o they_o be_v no_o argument_n either_o of_o his_o hatred_n or_o of_o their_o rejection_n but_o a_o evidence_n of_o his_o love_n beat_v they_o that_o he_o may_v better_v they_o who_o i_o love_v i_o rebuke_v and_o chasten_v be_v zealous_a therefore_o and_o amend_v these_o word_n consist_v of_o two_o part_n the_o first_o acquaint_v we_o with_o the_o lord_n practice_n the_o second_o lay_v down_o the_o drift_n and_o end_n of_o his_o practice_n his_o practice_n in_o these_o word_n as_o many_o as_o i_o love_v i_o rebuke_v and_o chasten_v the_o end_n and_o drift_n of_o his_o practice_n in_o the_o latter_a part_n of_o the_o verse_n be_v zealous_a etc._n etc._n i_o will_v brief_o unfold_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o word_n and_o then_o the_o lord_n willing_a collect_v instruction_n out_o of_o they_o as_o many_o as_o i_o love_v i_o rebuke_v 〈◊〉_d this_o word_n rebuke_n in_o the_o original_n signify_v not_o a_o bare_a and_o fingle_a reproof_n but_o even_o such_o a_o reproof_n as_o be_v utter_v with_o some_o strong_a argument_n and_o reason_n to_o convince_v the_o party_n reprove_v imply_v unto_o we_o that_o when_o the_o lord_n rebuke_n man_n for_o sin_n it_o be_v a_o argument_n of_o his_o dislike_n and_o hatred_n of_o sin_n and_o chasten_v this_o also_o must_v not_o be_v understand_v of_o ordinary_a correction_n but_o such_o a_o chastisement_n as_o a_o love_a father_n give_v unto_o the_o child_n of_o his_o love_n 〈◊〉_d for_o the_o original_n be_v take_v from_o a_o word_n which_o signify_v a_o child_n that_o as_o a_o father_n use_v to_o teach_v and_o instruct_v his_o child_n so_o the_o lord_n correct_v all_o those_o he_o love_v intend_v thereby_o to_o teach_v and_o instruct_v they_o be_v be_v zealous_a therefore_o these_o word_n be_v in_o opposition_n to_o their_o lukewarmness_a and_o therefore_o beza_n well_o render_v it_o be_v hot_a zeal_n or_o spiritual_a heat_n be_v a_o affection_n compound_v of_o two_o quality_n love_n and_o hatred_n
