that_o the_o devil_n shall_v make_v glorious_a professor_n and_o churchman_n in_o all_o age_n apostate_n persecuter_n betrayer_n of_o the_o truth_n to_o the_o adversary_n underminer_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n except_o they_o under_o all_o their_o show_n do_v lodge_v in_o their_o heart_n the_o love_n of_o money_n and_o worldly_a riches_n more_o than_o the_o love_n of_o heaven_n the_o love_n of_o the_o praise_n of_o man_n rather_o than_o god_n approbation_n the_o lust_n of_o their_o fleshly_a ease_n and_o pleasure_n more_o than_o the_o pleasure_n of_o god_n the_o fleshly_a fear_n find_v their_o merchant_n and_o the_o belove_a price_n offer_v unto_o they_o 4_o observe_v here_o how_o glorious_a soever_o these_o illumination_n and_o gift_n and_o tastings_n seem_v yet_o there_o be_v no_o further_o here_o grant_v but_o tastings_n to_o such_o rot_a professor_n that_o which_o they_o get_v be_v either_o only_a in_o the_o brain_n by_o knowledge_n or_o if_o there_o be_v any_o feeling_n they_o be_v but_o fleet_a motion_n flow_v from_o temporary_a ground_n which_o proceed_v not_o from_o any_o spiritual_a life_n in_o the_o man_n nor_o from_o a_o root_n in_o himself_o that_o be_v not_o from_o the_o spirit_n dwell_v in_o he_o such_o feeling_n do_v neither_o foster_n nor_o strenghthen_v he_o for_o any_o spiritual_a obedience_n but_o vanish_v without_o change_v the_o heart_n it_o be_v true_a all_o that_o the_o godly_a get_v in_o comparison_n of_o what_o he_o shall_v get_v be_v but_o tastings_n yet_o in_o comparison_n of_o these_o fruitless_a tasting_n of_o the_o unsound_a professor_n that_o which_o he_o get_v be_v true_a eat_v and_o drink_v a_o real_a feeding_n hold_v his_o soul_n in_o life_n and_o enable_v he_o to_o work_v the_o work_n of_o god_n to_o mortify_v his_o lust_n and_o serve_v god_n in_o his_o spirit_n 5._o observe_v that_o here_o he_o do_v not_o challenge_v those_o who_o have_v feel_v these_o tasting_n for_o unsound_a nor_o threaten_v they_o if_o they_o hold_v on_o and_o make_v progress_n then_o 1._o the_o have_v of_o illumination_n and_o spiritual_a gift_n and_o tasting_n of_o heavenly_a thing_n be_v not_o to_o be_v light_o esteem_v of_o but_o account_v as_o step_n and_o degree_n unto_o a_o further_a progress_n wherefore_o as_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o some_o to_o fall_v away_o so_o be_v it_o a_o piece_n of_o advancement_n to_o encourage_v man_n to_o go_v on_o that_o they_o fall_v not_o away_o 2._o there_o be_v no_o danger_n in_o have_v this_o illumination_n or_o these_o light_a tasting_n but_o all_o the_o hazard_n be_v to_o rest_v upon_o they_o and_o not_o to_o tend_v towards_o perfection_n or_o to_o fall_v away_o after_o receive_v so_o much_o encouragement_n 3._o and_o therefore_o we_o must_v not_o rest_v on_o illumination_n or_o common_a gift_n how_o glorious_a soever_o nor_o tasting_n and_o feeling_n how_o sweet_a soever_o but_o seek_v still_o into_o a_o more_o near_a communion_n with_o christ_n and_o shall_v be_v save_v but_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v renew_v by_o repentance_n then_o apostate_n salvation_n be_v not_o impossible_a but_o because_o their_o repentance_n be_v impossible_a and_o where_o repentance_n be_v there_o be_v no_o impossibility_n of_o salvation_n but_o a_o certainty_n of_o salvation_n rather_o for_o he_o that_o give_v the_o repentance_n he_o declare_v his_o purpose_n to_o give_v remission_n also_o 2._o he_o give_v a_o reason_n why_o they_o can_v get_v repentance_n because_o they_o malicious_o renounce_v christ_n and_o crucify_v he_o afresh_o unto_o themselves_o that_o be_v draw_v on_o the_o guiltiness_n of_o his_o enemy_n who_o crucify_v he_o do_v lie_v under_o by_o apostasy_n allow_v their_o crucify_a of_o he_o then_o 1_o a_o apostate_n from_o christ_n doctrine_n do_v christ_n as_o open_v shame_n as_o he_o can_v and_o say_v in_o effect_n of_o christ_n that_o his_o doctrine_n be_v false_a and_o not_o to_o be_v maintain_v 2_o a_o apostate_n allow_v judas_n and_o the_o jew_n for_o crucify_a of_o christ_n and_o account_v christ_n no_o more_o worthy_a than_o so_o to_o be_v deal_v withal_o 3._o renounce_v of_o christ_n make_v repentance_n impossible_a for_o he_o be_v a_o prince_n to_o give_v repentance_n unto_o israel_n and_o therefore_o he_o who_o will_v not_o quit_v christ_n nor_o his_o true_a doctrine_n be_v not_o debar_v from_o have_v repentance_n nor_o from_o salvation_n vers._n 7._o for_o the_o earth_n which_o drink_v in_o the_o rain_n that_o come_v oft_o upon_o it_o and_o bring_v forth_o herb_n meet_v for_o they_o by_o who_o it_o be_v dress_v receive_v blessing_n from_o god_n vers._n 8._o but_o that_o which_o bear_v thorn_n and_o brier_n be_v reject_v and_o be_v nigh_o unto_o curse_v who_o end_n be_v to_o be_v burn_v he_o give_v a_o reason_n of_o the_o punishment_n of_o apostate_n from_o the_o less_o to_o the_o more_o under_o a_o similitude_n from_o land-labouring_a thus_o as_o god_n bless_v such_o man_n who_o after_o pain_n take_v on_o they_o bring_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o good_a work_n so_o do_v he_o curse_v those_o who_o after_o pain_n take_v on_o they_o do_v bring_v forth_o but_o evil_a work_n bring_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o well-doing_n if_o a_o man_n will_v be_v free_a of_o the_o curse_n either_o of_o apostate_n or_o of_o the_o barren_a land_n vers._n 9_o but_o belove_v we_o be_v persuade_v better_a thing_n of_o you_o and_o thing_n that_o accompany_v salvation_n though_o we_o thus_o speak_v
6._o they_o who_o be_v unite_v in_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o truth_n preach_v by_o we_o shall_v also_o be_v unite_v with_o the_o father_n and_o his_o son_n jesus_n christ_n by_o virtue_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n therefore_o etc._n etc._n vers._n 4._o and_o these_o thing_n write_v we_o unto_o you_o that_o your_o joy_n may_v be_v full_a reas._n 7._o the_o sum_n of_o our_o preach_v which_o be_v lead_v his_o life_n according_a to_o the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n because_o if_o any_o one_o profess_v himself_o to_o have_v communion_n with_o god_n who_o be_v light_a and_o holiness_n and_o in_o and_o the_o blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n his_o son_n cleanse_v we_o from_o all_o sin_n note_v 2._o be_v propound_v affirmative_o he_o that_o walk_v in_o the_o light_n or_o he_o that_o follow_v after_o holiness_n that_o he_o may_v be_v conformable_a to_o god_n who_o be_v light_a and_o perfect_a holiness_n he_o be_v a_o true_a believer_n have_v communion_n true_o with_o god_n and_o the_o saint_n to_o who_o the_o fruit_n also_o of_o christ_n death_n to_o the_o remission_n of_o sin_n do_v whole_o belong_v vers._n 8._o if_o we_o say_v that_o we_o have_v no_o sin_n we_o deceive_v ourselves_o and_o the_o truth_n be_v not_o in_o we_o note_v 3_o be_v negative_a he_o that_o be_v a_o true_a believer_n be_v not_o so_o just_a in_o his_o own_o eye_n that_o he_o deny_v that_o he_o can_v sin_v either_o in_o word_n or_o deed_n or_o that_o he_o have_v not_o sin_v after_o justification_n or_o that_o he_o as_o if_o he_o can_v not_o want_v the_o daily_a intercession_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o daily_o apply_v of_o his_o merit_n for_o the_o deliver_n of_o his_o conscience_n from_o new_a guilt_n be_v not_o touch_v with_o the_o sense_n of_o sin_n so_o that_o he_o must_v forthwith_o fly_v unto_o christ_n as_o his_o redeemer_n for_o whosoever_o either_o in_o word_n or_o deed_n do_v real_o so_o deny_v that_o he_o have_v sin_n in_o he_o for_o the_o present_a deceive_v himself_o promise_v to_o he_o that_o do_v so_o confess_v his_o sin_n that_o upon_o the_o faithfulness_n and_o righteousness_n of_o god_n he_o shall_v be_v absolve_v and_o purge_v from_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n or_o sanctify_v from_o the_o stain_n of_o it_o for_o god_n be_v faithful_a who_o have_v promise_v these_o thing_n and_o god_n be_v just_a who_o have_v take_v satisfaction_n from_o christ_n the_o surety_n he_o do_v not_o exact_v the_o debt_n from_o he_o for_o who_o christ_n have_v satisfy_v but_o on_o the_o other_o side_n he_o bestow_v all_o the_o good_a thing_n upon_o he_o that_o believe_v which_o christ_n have_v purchase_v for_o his_o salvation_n vers._n 10._o if_o we_o say_v that_o we_o have_v not_o sin_v we_o make_v he_o a_o liar_n and_o his_o word_n be_v not_o in_o we_o note_v 5._o be_v negative_a he_o that_o be_v a_o true_a believer_n do_v neither_o deny_v nor_o extenuate_v his_o sin_n past_a as_o if_o either_o with_o that_o pharisee_fw-mi he_o have_v perform_v all_o the_o command_n of_o god_n from_o his_o youth_n or_o as_o if_o there_o be_v no_o original_a sin_n or_o as_o if_o it_o be_v not_o at_o all_o worthy_a of_o death_n neither_o be_v he_o impenitent_a as_o if_o in_o his_o nature_n but_o that_o by_o his_o free_a will_v he_o may_v confide_v in_o his_o own_o strength_n to_o dispose_v himself_o for_o grace_n and_o merit_v it_o or_o at_o leastwise_o be_v able_a open_o or_o secret_o invade_v either_o his_o person_n or_o his_o nature_n or_o the_o propriety_n of_o his_o nature_n or_o his_o office_n or_o his_o virtue_n or_o his_o efficacy_n or_o grace_n or_o truth_n or_o his_o glory_n therefore_o you_o ought_v to_o beware_v of_o seducer_n he_o be_v reas._n 10._o all_o seducer_n who_o draw_v hearer_n from_o christ_n in_o any_o one_o article_n be_v antichrist_n both_o deny_v the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o so_o overthrow_v the_o true_a religion_n and_o the_o foundation_n of_o religion_n with_o their_o lie_n because_o there_o be_v no_o true_a god_n out_o of_o christ_n for_o in_o he_o dwell_v all_o the_o fullness_n of_o the_o godhead_n therefore_o you_o ought_v to_o beware_v of_o seducer_n vers._n 23._o whosoever_o deny_v the_o son_n the_o same_o have_v not_o the_o father_n he_o confirm_v this_o reason_n from_o the_o inseparableness_n of_o the_o father_n from_o the_o son_n that_o no_o man_n can_v have_v the_o father_n for_o his_o god_n who_o any_o way_n deny_v the_o son_n because_o god_n have_v give_v himself_o to_o be_v enjoy_v whole_o by_o we_o in_o christ_n and_o he_o be_v seek_v for_o in_o vain_a elsewhere_o or_o by_o necessary_a or_o profitable_a to_o be_v know_v of_o the_o father_n to_o salvation_n and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n whosoever_o give_v due_a honour_n to_o christ_n as_o to_o the_o son_n of_o god_n acknowledge_v he_o such_o as_o he_o have_v manifest_v himself_o in_o the_o scripture_n do_v also_o acknowledge_v the_o father_n and_o esteem_v he_o for_o their_o god_n vers._n 14._o let_v that_o therefore_o abide_v in_o you_o which_o you_o have_v hear_v from_o the_o beginning_n if_o that_o which_o you_o have_v hear_v from_o the_o beginning_n shall_v remain_v in_o you_o you_o also_o shall_v continue_v in_o the_o son_n and_o in_o the_o father_n reas._n 11._o the_o true_o ancient_a and_o only_a truth_n of_o god_n always_o constant_a to_o itself_o be_v this_o which_o i_o exhort_v you_o to_o you_o have_v retain_v the_o doctrine_n deliver_v to_o you_o by_o christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n according_a to_o the_o scripture_n you_o shall_v remain_v in_o the_o society_n and_o friendship_n of_o god_n the_o son_n and_o the_o father_n therefore_o you_o ought_v to_o beware_v of_o seducer_n vers._n 25._o and_o this_o be_v the_o promise_n that_o he_o have_v promise_v we_o eternal_a life_n 26._o these_o thing_n have_v i_o write_v unto_o you_o concern_v they_o that_o seduce_v you_o reas._n 13._o god_n upon_o this_o condition_n have_v promise_v we_o life_n eternal_a if_o we_o retain_v steadfast_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n therefore_o you_o ought_v steadfast_o to_o continue_v in_o the_o faith_n and_o obedience_n of_o christ_n doctrine_n and_o beware_v of_o seducer_n who_o do_v you_o have_v receive_v of_o he_o abide_v in_o you_o and_o you_o need_v not_o that_o any_o man_n teach_v you_o but_o as_o the_o same_o anoint_v teach_v you_o of_o all_o thing_n and_o be_v truth_n and_o be_v no_o lie_n and_o even_o as_o it_o have_v teach_v you_o you_o shall_v abide_v in_o he_o reas._n 14._o that_o you_o may_v be_v keep_v from_o seducer_n you_o be_v fortify_v with_o manifold_a truth_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n every_o one_o in_o his_o measure_n second_o that_o spirit_n remain_v in_o you_o who_o be_v faithful_a and_o be_v not_o take_v away_o from_o believer_n three_o you_o have_v no_o need_n of_o any_o man_n that_o may_v teach_v you_o any_o thing_n beside_o that_o which_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n have_v teach_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o have_v confirm_v in_o your_o heart_n you_o have_v only_o need_v of_o exhortation_n that_o you_o abide_v in_o christ_n as_o the_o spirit_n or_o unction_n speak_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o that_o which_o be_v in_o the_o scripture_n confirm_v in_o your_o heart_n and_o further_o instruct_v you_o out_o of_o the_o scripture_n do_v teach_v you_o in_o all_o thing_n necessary_a to_o salvation_n which_o spirit_n be_v truth_n i._n e._n the_o very_a truth_n of_o the_o scripture_n which_o be_v truth_n a_o confirmation_n and_o not_o a_o lie_n but_o a_o refuter_fw-la and_o hater_n of_o lie_n therefore_o you_o ought_v steadfast_o to_o abide_v in_o christ_n as_o the_o spirit_n according_a to_o the_o truth_n of_o scripture_n have_v teach_v you_o and_o to_o beware_v of_o seducer_n vers._n 28._o and_o now_o little_a child_n abide_v in_o he_o that_o when_o he_o shall_v appear_v we_o may_v have_v confidence_n and_o not_o be_v ashamed_a before_o he_o at_o his_o come_n reas._n 15._o whosoever_o they_o be_v that_o do_v not_o persevere_v in_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n neither_o abide_v in_o communion_n with_o he_o furthermore_o whatsoever_o they_o be_v in_o the_o esteem_n of_o man_n they_o shall_v with_o shame_n depart_v from_o the_o judgement_n fear_v of_o christ._n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a those_o that_o persevere_v in_o the_o faith_n shall_v confident_o stand_v before_o he_o therefore_o you_o ought_v steadfast_o to_o abide_v in_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n and_o beware_v of_o seducer_n vers._n 29._o if_o you_o know_v that_o he_o be_v righteous_a you_o know_v that_o every_o one_o conscience_n illuminate_v once_o by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n he_o command_v not_o to_o pray_v for_o he_o that_o commit_v this_o sin_n when_o it_o may_v be_v discern_v it_o be_v call_v a_o sin_n unto_o death_n because_o eternal_a death_n follow_v that_o sin_n and_o he_o that_o fall_v into_o it_o remain_v in_o it_o without_o repentance_n until_o he_o be_v thrust_v down_o into_o hell_n vers._n 17._o
