church_n of_o christ_n except_o they_o under_o all_o their_o show_n do_v lodge_v in_o their_o heart_n the_o love_n of_o money_n and_o worldly_a riches_n more_o than_o the_o love_n of_o heaven_n the_o love_n of_o the_o praise_n of_o man_n rather_o than_o god_n approbation_n the_o lust_n of_o their_o fleshly_a ease_n and_o pleasure_n more_o than_o the_o pleasure_n of_o god_n the_o fleshly_a fear_n of_o those_o that_o can_v kill_v the_o body_n more_o than_o of_o god_n who_o can_v cast_v both_o soul_n and_o body_n into_o hell_n and_o therefore_o no_o wonder_n if_o for_o satisfaction_n of_o their_o ambition_n avarice_n lust_n and_o earthly_a affection_n they_o become_v ready_a to_o sell_v christ_n and_o his_o truth_n and_o his_o church_n and_o their_o country_n and_o all_o when_o they_o find_v their_o merchant_n and_o the_o belove_a price_n offer_v unto_o they_o 4_o observe_v here_o how_o glorious_a soever_o these_o illumination_n and_o gift_n and_o tastings_n seem_v yet_o there_o be_v no_o further_o here_o grant_v but_o tastings_n to_o such_o rot_a professor_n that_o which_o they_o get_v be_v either_o only_a in_o the_o brain_n by_o knowledge_n or_o if_o there_o be_v any_o professor_n that_o which_o he_o get_v be_v true_a eat_v and_o drink_v a_o real_a feeding_n hold_v his_o soul_n in_o life_n and_o enable_v he_o to_o work_v the_o work_n of_o god_n to_o mortify_v his_o lust_n and_o serve_v god_n in_o his_o spirit_n 5._o observe_v that_o here_o he_o do_v not_o challenge_v those_o who_o have_v feel_v these_o tasting_n for_o unsound_a nor_o threaten_v they_o if_o they_o hold_v on_o and_o make_v progress_n then_o 1._o the_o have_v of_o illumination_n and_o spiritual_a gift_n and_o tasting_n of_o heavenly_a thing_n be_v not_o to_o be_v light_o esteem_v of_o find_v of_o thy_o child_n walk_v in_o the_o truth_n as_o we_o have_v receive_v a_o commandment_n from_o the_o father_n here_o follow_v the_o body_n of_o the_o epistle_n wherein_o he_o exhort_v this_o matron_n with_o her_o child_n to_o persevere_v in_o the_o obedience_n of_o the_o gospel_n i._n e._n in_o faith_n work_v by_o love_n towards_o god_n and_o the_o brethren_n the_o argument_n of_o the_o exhortation_n be_v nine_o the_o first_o be_v premise_v in_o this_o verse_n wherein_o he_o confess_v his_o joy_n that_o this_o family_n hitherto_o have_v continue_v in_o the_o obedience_n of_o the_o gospel_n he_o confirm_v they_o as_o to_o what_o be_v past_a and_o also_o stir_v they_o up_o to_o persevere_v for_o the_o future_a your_o constancy_n in_o the_o obedience_n of_o the_o gospel_n will_v administer_v to_o i_o and_o all_o the_o faithful_a who_o hear_v of_o you_o abundant_a matter_n of_o spiritual_a joy_n and_o consequent_o of_o thanksgiving_n to_o god_n therefore_o persevere_v in_o the_o faith_n vers._n 5._o and_o now_o i_o beseech_v thou_o lady_n not_o as_o though_o i_o write_v a_o new_a commandment_n unto_o thou_o but_o that_o which_o we_o have_v from_o the_o beginning_n that_o we_o love_v one_o another_o from_o hence_o he_o infer_v a_o exhortation_n chief_o to_o the_o matron_n or_o mother_n of_o the_o family_n under_o who_o tuition_n the_o child_n be_v together_o with_o the_o second_o argument_n the_o commandment_n for_o the_o demonstration_n of_o the_o efficacy_n of_o your_o faith_n in_o the_o love_n of_o the_o brethren_n have_v nothing_o new_a in_o it_o beside_o that_o which_o you_o have_v learn_v by_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n from_o the_o begin_n of_o your_o vocation_n and_o have_v accustom_v yourselves_o to_o viz._n that_o from_o the_o faith_n and_o love_n of_o jesus_n christ_n you_o also_o love_v the_o christian_a brotherhood_n therefore_o go_v forward_o in_o the_o obedience_n of_o faith_n work_v by_o love_n vers._n 6._o and_o this_o be_v love_n that_o we_o walk_v after_o his_o commandment_n this_o be_v the_o commandment_n that_o as_o you_o have_v hear_v from_o the_o beginning_n you_o shall_v walk_v in_o it_o argum._n 3._o there_o be_v no_o other_o true_a love_n either_o of_o our_o neighbour_n or_o of_o god_n beside_o that_o which_o consist_v in_o a_o constant_a endeavour_n of_o keep_v all_o god_n commandment_n and_o walk_v or_o go_v forward_o in_o that_o obedience_n therefore_o or_o thus_o the_o command_n or_o the_o sum_n of_o the_o doctrine_n deliver_v to_o we_o in_o the_o gospel_n be_v that_o we_o shall_v keep_v faith_n and_o a_o good_a conscience_n that_o we_o shall_v believe_v in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o love_v our_o neighbour_n therefore_o persevere_v you_o in_o the_o obedience_n of_o faith_n or_o this_o commandment_n vers._n 7._o for_o many_o deceiver_n be_v enter_v into_o the_o world_n who_o confess_v not_o that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v come_v in_o the_o flesh_n this_o be_v a_o deceiver_n and_o a_o antichrist_n aâ—gum_fw-la 4._o there_o be_v danger_n lest_o you_o be_v deceive_v by_o reason_n of_o the_o multitude_n of_o seducer_n that_o be_v go_v out_o into_o the_o world_n and_o impudent_o boast_v of_o themselves_o therefore_o you_o ought_v the_o more_o diligent_o to_o endeavour_v after_o perseverance_n but_o he_o call_v seducer_n not_o only_o those_o who_o open_o oppose_v the_o person_n of_o christ_n his_o office_n and_o power_n but_o also_o those_o who_o do_v not_o confess_v christ_n nor_o ascribe_v all_o glory_n unto_o he_o which_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a scripture_n teach_v we_o to_o ascribe_v unto_o he_o for_o whosoever_o he_o be_v he_o be_v so_o far_o forth_o antichrist_n as_o he_o do_v neither_o confess_v nor_o acknowledge_v christ_n such_o as_o he_o have_v show_v forth_o himself_o to_o we_o in_o his_o holy_a doctrine_n vers._n 8._o look_v to_o yourselves_o that_o we_o lose_v not_o those_o thing_n which_o we_o have_v wrought_v but_o that_o we_o receive_v a_o full_a reward_n argum._n 5._o unless_o you_o constant_o persevere_v in_o the_o true_a faith_n of_o the_o gospel_n or_o the_o obedience_n to_o it_o you_o will_v lose_v all_o the_o fruit_n of_o that_o faith_n which_o you_o have_v hitherto_o profess_v and_o affliction_n also_o which_o you_o have_v suffer_v and_o the_o work_n which_o you_o former_o perform_v because_o by_o your_o draw_v back_o you_o will_v manifest_v that_o your_o faith_n be_v never_o sincere_a but_o a_o vain_a profession_n without_o truth_n therefore_o you_o ought_v to_o endeavour_v through_o perseverance_n to_o receive_v a_o full_a and_o plentiful_a reward_n promise_v to_o all_o those_o that_o faithful_o cleave_v unto_o god_n vers._n 9_o whosoever_o transgress_v and_o abide_v not_o in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n have_v not_o god_n he_o that_o abide_v in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n he_o have_v both_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n argum._n 6._o whosoever_o transgress_v the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n
