be_v or_o can_v be_v any_o great_a happiness_n in_o he_o you_o shall_v hardly_o beat_v they_o out_o of_o it_o but_o that_o it_o be_v better_a to_o have_v so_o much_o gain_v such_o a_o revenue_n by_o the_o year_n then_o to_o have_v god_n for_o their_o friend_n they_o will_v hardly_o be_v beat_v out_o of_o these_o principal_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v no_o marvel_n no_o wonder_n if_o they_o turn_v a_o ace_n with_o god_n and_o be_v bold_a with_o sin_n to_o like_a violation_n of_o their_o peace_n with_o god_n to_o purchase_v that_o thing_n which_o they_o count_v more_o precious_a than_o god_n and_o to_o turn_v their_o back_n on_o god_n to_o get_v that_o which_o they_o count_v their_o happiness_n as_o suppose_v they_o think_v that_o gold_n or_o any_o such_o thing_n be_v the_o only_a way_n to_o make_v they_o happy_a then_o farewell_n god_n &_o hoc_fw-la primum_fw-la repetunt_fw-la opus_fw-la hoc_fw-la postremum_fw-la omittunt_fw-la they_o be_v all_o for_o this_o and_o therefore_o i_o say_v it_o be_v no_o wonder_n that_o these_o worldly_a man_n who_o never_o taste_v the_o sweetness_n of_o god_n do_v thus_o 2._o but_o this_o be_v the_o grief_n of_o heart_n and_o the_o greatness_n of_o the_o sin_n it_o of_o godly_a man_n that_o know_v it_o that_o those_o that_o be_v god_n servant_n that_o know_v the_o excellency_n that_o be_v in_o god_n and_o do_v pretend_v to_o it_o and_o profess_v that_o they_o believe_v that_o god_n be_v their_o only_a happiness_n it_o profess_v to_o believe_v it_o and_o that_o it_o consist_v in_o their_o communion_n and_o fellowship_n with_o he_o yet_o when_o all_o come_v to_o all_o they_o be_v so_o far_o carry_v away_o with_o the_o course_n of_o the_o world_n it_o yet_o neglect_v it_o that_o neglect_v god_n they_o seek_v after_o gewgaw_n and_o toy_n and_o place_n so_o much_o happiness_n in_o they_o and_o make_v so_o little_a after_o god_n though_o they_o profess_v otherwise_o and_o though_o they_o know_v otherwise_o it_o be_v not_o my_o jewel_n in_o my_o bosom_n or_o my_o curl_v or_o crisp_v my_o hair_n that_o make_v i_o a_o happy_a woman_n nor_o be_v it_o any_o of_o these_o gewgaw_n or_o toy_n happy_o will_n they_o say_v that_o make_v i_o happy_a but_o yet_o alas_o when_o all_o come_v to_o all_o they_o go_v as_o gaudy_a and_o as_o fantastic_a as_o any_o other_o and_o make_v so_o much_o of_o it_o and_o be_v as_o ready_a and_o as_o foolish_a to_o run_v to_o the_o same_o excess_n of_o riot_n as_o though_o god_n be_v not_o their_o ornament_n and_o their_o happiness_n if_o they_o do_v believe_v this_o and_o remember_v this_o that_o their_o happiness_n and_o excellency_n lie_v all_o in_o god_n though_o they_o may_v make_v use_n of_o other_o thing_n in_o a_o sober_a and_o a_o modest_a and_o exemplary_a way_n such_o as_o be_v fit_a to_o give_v a_o example_n to_o the_o world_n of_o extraordinary_a piety_n and_o sobriety_n in_o this_o course_n and_o with_o this_o caution_n i_o say_v though_o they_o may_v make_v use_n of_o any_o sober_a and_o modest_a way_n yet_o they_o will_v not_o go_v so_o vain_o and_o fond_o and_o gaudy_o and_o place_n so_o much_o happiness_n in_o these_o thing_n do_v they_o believe_v this_o that_o their_o happiness_n lie_v in_o god_n and_o sure_o it_o argue_v that_o they_o have_v not_o that_o high_a esteem_n of_o god_n and_o that_o they_o repose_v so_o much_o confidence_n in_o he_o as_o in_o their_o only_a happiness_n they_o will_v not_o else_o be_v so_o fond_a of_o so_o foolish_a thing_n for_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n incompatible_a with_o a_o mind_n that_o be_v full_o possess_v with_o the_o excellency_n of_o god_n which_o if_o we_o have_v it_o will_v make_v we_o look_v a_o squint_a on_o all_o other_o thing_n even_o the_o best_a thing_n and_o much_o more_o on_o thing_n of_o a_o inferior_a nature_n yet_o i_o say_v this_o folly_n of_o many_o professor_n that_o they_o place_v so_o much_o in_o these_o poor_a thing_n and_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n to_o be_v bewail_v 3_o but_o to_o come_v to_o that_o which_o i_o aim_v at_o most_o weak_a exhortation_n to_o the_o weak_a and_o which_o be_v indeed_o the_o principal_a viz._n the_o matter_n of_o exhortation_n that_o we_o will_v every_o one_o of_o we_o see_v the_o main_a of_o our_o happiness_n lie_v in_o god_n and_o so_o much_o of_o it_o that_o he_o alone_o can_v make_v we_o happy_a if_o we_o can_v but_o get_v he_o and_o enjoy_v he_o and_o walk_v in_o a_o sweet_a and_o holy_a communion_n with_o he_o that_o will_v make_v we_o happy_a though_o we_o have_v nothing_o else_o in_o the_o world_n though_o we_o be_v cut_v off_o from_o all_o other_o thing_n than_o i_o shall_v entreat_v to_o make_v way_n by_o certain_a step_n and_o degree_n to_o what_o i_o aim_v at_o and_o 1_o that_o all_o christian_n will_v understand_v this_o truth_n it_o understand_v it_o i_o know_v there_o be_v many_o other_o thing_n in_o religion_n necessary_a to_o be_v know_v but_o i_o only_o mention_v these_o step_n which_o otherwise_o i_o be_o not_o to_o dwell_v on_o but_o to_o arise_v high_a and_o ascend_v by_o these_o many_o man_n i_o know_v count_v many_o thing_n in_o religion_n and_o many_o thing_n that_o be_v deliver_v and_o so_o this_o to_o be_v but_o paradox_n and_o the_o conceit_n of_o man_n brain_n the_o fancy_n of_o some_o contemplative_a person_n that_o live_v retire_v and_o do_v not_o know_v what_o belong_v to_o the_o world_n and_o true_o for_o my_o own_o part_n i_o will_v never_o decline_v the_o imputation_n of_o be_v subject_a to_o such_o weakness_n if_o man_n will_v so_o term_v it_o as_o there_o be_v no_o man_n but_o have_v his_o fail_n and_o his_o error_n but_o yet_o if_o this_o be_v truth_n of_o god_n and_o in_o his_o word_n than_o i_o suppose_v we_o be_v out_o of_o any_o danger_n of_o be_v question_v for_o fantastic_a or_o foolish_a or_o paradoxall_a conceit_n deliver_v that_o which_o we_o have_v receive_v from_o god_n and_o i_o will_v desire_v every_o one_o but_o to_o consider_v and_o take_v notice_n of_o this_o truth_n not_o as_o the_o fancy_n of_o a_o man_n but_o as_o a_o truth_n that_o be_v divine_a and_o as_o the_o word_n of_o god_n that_o god_n alone_o can_v make_v a_o man_n happy_a though_o a_o man_n have_v nothing_o else_o understand_v this_o and_o take_v notice_n of_o and_o think_v on_o this_o truth_n it_o believe_v it_o 2_o believe_v it_o bring_v your_o heart_n to_o assent_v and_o adhere_v unto_o it_o do_v not_o stand_v out_o in_o distinction_n or_o in_o staggering_n with_o this_o truth_n or_o speak_v against_o it_o or_o find_v some_o evasion_n or_o declination_n to_o avoid_v it_o but_o receive_v this_o truth_n and_o embrace_v it_o by_o a_o firm_a and_o steadfast_a faith_n it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v expect_v though_o this_o good_a word_n of_o god_n be_v for_o my_o good_a may_v serve_v for_o a_o good_a end_n viz._n to_o press_v the_o endeavour_v many_o thing_n in_o my_o practice_n yet_o i_o say_v it_o be_v not_o expect_v that_o it_o shall_v do_v this_o except_o it_o be_v embrace_v by_o faith_n believe_v this_o therefore_o that_o be_v the_o second_o step_n i_o will_v desire_v every_o one_o to_o bring_v their_o heart_n to_o this_o truth_n and_o believe_v this_o and_o receive_v it_o as_o a_o reality_n it_o ponder_v it_o 3_o ponder_n on_o it_o and_o consider_v it_o and_o meditate_v upon_o it_o to_o chew_v it_o up_o and_o down_o in_o their_o mouth_n and_o in_o their_o mind_n many_o truth_n there_o be_v that_o have_v a_o swim_a motion_n in_o our_o head_n but_o there_o be_v no_o decoction_n of_o this_o truth_n and_o we_o be_v not_o the_o better_a for_o they_o because_o we_o do_v not_o ruminate_v on_o they_o and_o chew_v they_o that_o we_o do_v not_o turn_v they_o into_o nutriment_n as_o you_o know_v it_o be_v with_o meat_n which_o a_o man_n will_v put_v into_o his_o belly_n if_o it_o be_v not_o prepare_v some_o way_n as_o boil_a or_o roast_v or_o some_o such_o fit_a it_o will_v not_o turn_v to_o nutriment_n but_o rather_o turn_v to_o disease_n in_o the_o stomach_n and_o so_o it_o be_v oftentimes_o that_o many_o truth_n that_o a_o man_n understand_v to_o be_v truth_n for_o want_v of_o ruminate_v and_o chew_v they_o do_v not_o turn_v to_o spiritual_a nutriment_n to_o breed_v any_o good_a spirit_n any_o good_a blood_n
to_o look_v into_o the_o breast_n and_o see_v the_o secret_n of_o his_o heart_n and_o thought_n i_o be_o content_v to_o conceive_v so_o charitable_o of_o you_o and_o charitable_o to_o interpret_v and_o excuse_v except_o i_o see_v the_o fail_a be_v over_o gross_a if_o it_o be_v not_o extravagant_a and_o exorbitant_a i_o will_v candid_o make_v the_o best_a construction_n but_o remember_v that_o beside_o man_n who_o thou_o may_v put_v off_o with_o word_n because_o he_o have_v no_o such_o art_n to_o see_v thy_o inward_o yet_o thou_o have_v a_o god_n to_o deal_v withal_o and_o thou_o have_v a_o great_a tribunal_n at_o which_o thou_o must_v give_v up_o a_o reckon_n thou_o have_v a_o conscience_n within_o thou_o to_o deal_v withal_o which_o will_v once_o be_v awake_v and_o though_o i_o be_v not_o able_a to_o convince_v thou_o that_o thou_o do_v too_o much_o poise_v towards_o and_o post_n after_o worldly_a thing_n that_o thou_o go_v beyond_o the_o golden_a line_n of_o mediocrity_n yet_o if_o thy_o own_o conscience_n do_v accuse_v thou_o consult_v with_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o those_o many_o passage_n in_o it_o which_o point_n out_o this_o sin_n that_o if_o there_o be_v any_o truth_n and_o propriety_n in_o the_o word_n all_o those_o passage_n fly_v in_o thy_o face_n and_o proclaim_v thou_o guilty_a that_o thou_o be_v guilty_a of_o this_o sin_n i_o say_v think_v not_o because_o now_o thou_o can_v put_v i_o off_o with_o such_o flimme-flamme_a excuse_n thou_o can_v put_v off_o god_n too_o then_o daub_v not_o with_o god_n and_o thy_o own_o conscience_n with_o who_o it_o be_v to_o no_o purpose_n to_o dissemble_v this_o be_v premise_v in_o general_a i_o shall_v add_v but_o these_o two_o thing_n in_o particular_a difference_n there_o shall_v be_v a_o vast_a difference_n 1._o first_o of_o all_o consider_v that_o there_o be_v a_o very_a vast_a and_o wide_a and_o broad_a difference_n between_o those_o affection_n which_o we_o shall_v have_v to_o god_n and_o those_o which_o we_o be_v allow_v to_o use_v for_o the_o world_n and_o worldly_a thing_n there_o be_v a_o vast_a and_o broad_a difference_n between_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o one_o and_o the_o vanity_n of_o the_o other_o and_o therefore_o there_o shall_v be_v as_o vast_a and_o broad_a a_o difference_n in_o our_o prosecution_n and_o affection_n towards_o the_o one_o and_o towards_o the_o other_o and_o if_o there_o be_v not_o a_o very_a broad_a difference_n that_o thou_o do_v infinite_o more_o pursue_v after_o god_n &_o after_o heavenly_a thing_n which_o be_v infinite_o of_o more_o worth_n than_o all_o worldly_a thing_n than_o thou_o do_v after_o any_o worldly_a thing_n if_o there_o be_v so_o nice_a a_o difference_n that_o thou_o can_v hardly_o distinguish_v and_o discern_v which_o be_v predominate_a in_o thou_o or_o which_o thou_o do_v most_o look_v after_o in_o which_o thou_o place_v the_o great_a part_n of_o thy_o felicity_n thou_o be_v guilty_a for_o it_o can_v be_v right_a unless_o there_o be_v a_o broad_a difference_n because_o it_o be_v but_o reasonable_a if_o god_n be_v so_o infinite_o transcendent_a above_o all_o these_o worldly_a thing_n and_o go_v so_o far_o beyond_o all_o those_o earthly_a thing_n as_o that_o they_o be_v all_o but_o as_o the_o dust_n of_o the_o balance_n in_o weight_n against_o god_n then_o if_o thou_o do_v seek_v these_o thing_n and_o mind_n these_o thing_n and_o do_v do_v it_o any_o way_n as_o much_o as_o thou_o do_v god_n it_o be_v certain_a thou_o do_v it_o inordinate_o and_o exorbitant_o and_o therefore_o to_o end_v this_o i_o will_v desire_v every_o one_o but_o to_o try_v their_o conscience_n and_o their_o heart_n and_o see_v whether_o they_o can_v discern_v such_o a_o infinite_a distance_n in_o themselves_o between_o the_o price_n they_o set_v upon_o god_n &_o heavenly_a thing_n &_o the_o prosecution_n after_o they_o and_o that_o price_n they_o set_v upon_o &_o the_o prosecution_n they_o do_v make_v after_o worldly_a thing_n if_o they_o do_v not_o find_v the_o difference_n wide_a but_o that_o their_o heart_n do_v bend_v and_o warp_v too_o much_o towards_o worldly_a thing_n it_o be_v certain_a he_o be_v guilty_a of_o this_o fault_n which_o i_o now_o tax_v and_o the_o word_n do_v meet_v with_o he_o in_o a_o just_a reproof_n and_o he_o have_v need_n to_o be_v humble_v for_o it_o 2._o as_o there_o shall_v be_v so_o wide_a a_o difference_n so_o broad_a a_o difference_n between_o those_o two_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v write_v in_o legible_a character_n it_o may_v be_v in_o a_o palliate_a way_n onemay_v say_v i_o will_v dare_v any_o man_n in_o the_o world_n to_o say_v if_o be_v can_v i_o be_o as_o much_o for_o the_o world_n as_o for_o god_n i_o know_v there_o be_v a_o broad_a and_o a_o wide_a difference_n to_o be_v put_v between_o they_o and_o a_o man_n shall_v wrong_v i_o to_o think_v i_o bring_v the_o world_n in_o competition_n with_o god_n when_o as_o alas_o all_o these_o pretence_n will_v be_v but_o as_o figleaf_n to_o cover_v he_o as_o suppose_v now_o in_o a_o other_o case_n i_o shall_v palliate_v a_o inordinate_a love_n to_o the_o maid_n more_o than_o to_o the_o wife_n and_o yet_o the_o wife_n deserve_v more_o of_o love_n this_o be_v a_o great_a suspicion_n for_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n that_o be_v between_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o if_o i_o shall_v not_o make_v a_o broad_a difference_n between_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o i_o may_v be_v suspect_v and_o i_o will_v assure_v you_o how_o ever_o a_o man_n may_v be_v free_a from_o the_o sin_n yet_o he_o can_v be_v free_a from_o the_o suspicion_n of_o a_o adulterous_a mind_n towards_o these_o worldly_a thing_n if_o there_o be_v not_o a_o vast_a distinction_n and_o a_o broad_a difference_n in_o our_o carriage_n towards_o the_o world_n and_o towards_o god_n now_o i_o say_v as_o there_o shall_v be_v this_o wide_a difference_n observe_v in_o our_o prosecution_n of_o the_o world_n and_o of_o god_n so_o there_o may_v be_v evidence_n there_o may_v be_v a_o clear_a evidence_n and_o be_v mean_n to_o fetch_v man_n out_o of_o their_o hole_n and_o fence_n that_o they_o have_v and_o clear_a evidence_n to_o convince_v that_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o exorbitancy_n and_o disorder_n in_o this_o kind_n in_o the_o carriage_n of_o the_o great_a part_n of_o man_n in_o the_o world_n and_o even_o of_o christian_n too_o that_o profess_v themselves_o to_o be_v such_o and_o indeed_o such_o as_o be_v real_o such_o but_o be_v not_o aware_a of_o this_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n that_o still_o adheare_n unto_o they_o especial_o since_o it_o come_v disguise_v and_o cover_v with_o some_o fair_a excuse_n or_o vizard_n i_o say_v there_o be_v many_o evidence_n consider_v if_o we_o consider_v that_o may_v clear_o evince_v it_o to_o a_o man_n that_o will_v deal_v true_o with_o his_o conscience_n and_o not_o captious_o as_o one_o man_n will_v deal_v with_o another_o he_o give_v but_o a_o brief_a touch_n 1._o examine_v thy_o expense_n of_o time_n time_n expense_n of_o time_n what_o time_n do_v thou_o bestow_v upon_o god_n and_o what_o time_n do_v thou_o bestow_v upon_o the_o world_n certain_o a_o man_n that_o love_v his_o wife_n will_v not_o bestow_v more_o time_n in_o converse_v with_o a_o other_o woman_n it_o will_v be_v very_o dangerous_a and_o prejudicial_a to_o his_o credit_n and_o reputation_n if_o he_o do_v and_o he_o can_v hardry_n wash_v his_o hand_n from_o shroud_n suspicion_n and_o in_o this_o case_n it_o be_v so_o likewise_o if_o a_o man_n spend_v all_o his_o time_n or_o the_o most_o of_o it_o in_o the_o prosecution_n of_o the_o world_n and_o worldly_a thing_n and_o grudge_n at_o a_o little_a time_n for_o god_n six_o day_n be_v not_o enough_o for_o the_o prosecution_n of_o the_o world_n and_o one_o day_n too_o much_o for_o look_v after_o god_n and_o after_o heavenly_a thing_n be_v not_o this_o a_o sign_n of_o the_o heart_n go_v out_o inordinate_o after_o the_o world_n but_o i_o know_v there_o may_v be_v many_o difficulty_n in_o this_o and_o some_o that_o may_v be_v just_o object_v against_o this_o character_n and_o therefore_o have_v give_v this_o in_o general_a i_o pass_v it_o paines_n paines_n but_o second_o a_o other_o thing_n there_o be_v that_o may_v come_v a_o little_a close_o viz._n the_o pain_n we_o take_v especial_o with_o the_o intention_n of_o the_o mind_n lay_v together_o admit_v it_o be_v necessary_a and_o god_n own_o appointment_n and_o the_o thing_n require_v it_o that_o no_o time_n must_v be_v spend_v otherwise_o for_o the_o great_a publican_n of_o the_o world_n sleep_n take_v up_o much_o tribute_n of_o a_o man_n time_n and_o take_v out_o a_o great_a portion_n and_o the_o necessary_a reparation_n
when_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n close_v and_o assent_v and_o consent_v unto_o it_o i_o mean_v no_o more_o here_o by_o faith_n then_o a_o assent_n though_o i_o know_v it_o comprehend_v more_o than_o this_o which_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o mistake_n of_o many_o divine_n and_o of_o the_o diversity_n of_o opinion_n that_o be_v among_o they_o and_o so_o of_o their_o contradiction_n one_o of_o another_o i_o say_v the_o not_o clear_a observe_v of_o the_o use_n of_o the_o word_n but_o every_o one_o understand_v the_o word_n in_o his_o own_o sense_n and_o so_o take_v up_o opinion_n according_a understanding_n but_o the_o act_n of_o the_o will_v too_o so_o as_o the_o will_n do_v embrace_v and_o adhere_v and_o cleave_v to_o those_o truth_n which_o the_o understanding_n conceive_v and_o not_o only_o embrace_v mere_o by_o the_o assent_n to_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o but_o by_o close_v with_o the_o good_a of_o it_o taste_v and_o relish_v it_o as_o faith_n in_o christ_n be_v not_o only_o the_o assent_v of_o a_o man_n mind_n that_o christ_n be_v the_o saviour_n but_o a_o resultancie_n of_o the_o will_n on_o christ_n as_o a_o saviour_n embrace_v of_o he_o and_o love_v esteem_v and_o honour_v he_o as_o a_o saviour_n the_o scripture_n comprehend_v both_o these_o together_o and_o there_o be_v a_o rule_n for_o it_o which_o the_o rabbin_n give_v for_o the_o open_n of_o the_o scripture_n viz._n which_o be_v profess_v in_o the_o church_n of_o god_n that_o be_v the_o true_a religion_n and_o that_o bring_v we_o to_o the_o three_o which_o be_v but_o there_o be_v many_o pretender_n to_o the_o very_a nature_n and_o be_v of_o it_o that_o a_o man_n be_v in_o a_o good_a estate_n for_o the_o main_a substance_n though_o short_a in_o the_o degree_n god_n be_v so_o great_a a_o good_a that_o even_o the_o enjoy_v of_o he_o in_o such_o a_o manner_n as_o be_v possible_a for_o we_o here_o in_o this_o life_n in_o this_o veil_n of_o tear_n in_o this_o absence_n from_o god_n that_o enjoy_v of_o he_o here_o by_o faith_n and_o those_o taste_n that_o we_o have_v of_o he_o be_v enough_o to_o elevate_v and_o raise_v our_o condition_n to_o a_o state_n of_o true_a happiness_n 2._o but_o then_o as_o a_o low_a communion_n with_o god_n such_o as_o we_o have_v by_o faith_n here_o do_v bring_v a_o man_n to_o true_a and_o real_a happiness_n so_o when_o we_o shall_v be_v exalt_v to_o a_o high_a degree_n and_o a_o more_o near_o and_o excellent_a communion_n with_o god_n in_o heaven_n by_o sight_n we_o shall_v attain_v the_o royal_a and_o perfect_a happiness_n when_o we_o shall_v see_v he_o face_n to_o face_n not_o in_o that_o rigid_a sense_n or_o notion_n that_o the_o school_n man_n have_v so_o much_o write_v of_o as_o though_o all_o a_o man_n happiness_n lie_v mere_o in_o behold_v of_o the_o towards_o our_o happiness_n though_o all_o the_o creature_n set_v themselves_o against_o we_o and_o conspire_v against_o we_o yet_o the_o opposition_n of_o all_o can_v not_o make_v any_o interposition_n between_o we_o and_o our_o happiness_n where_o god_n be_v please_v to_o come_v and_o bestow_v himself_o upon_o we_o that_o be_v the_o negative_a part_n god_n without_o the_o creature_n in_o what_o posture_n soever_o we_o consider_v they_o whether_o absent_a from_o we_o or_o opposite_a to_o we_o can_v make_v we_o happy_a he_o need_v not_o the_o aid_n and_o help_v of_o any_o in_o it_o not_o only_o sufficient_o but_o effectual_o there_o be_v not_o only_o a_o possibility_n and_o a_o sufficiency_n in_o god_n that_o it_o may_v be_v do_v but_o there_o be_v a_o efficacy_n efficient_o efficient_o and_o such_o as_o be_v inseparable_a and_o where_o god_n be_v so_o possess_v and_o enjoy_v there_o be_v a_o actual_a conveyance_n of_o real_a happiness_n thus_o of_o the_o proposition_n 2._o now_o brief_o for_o the_o proof_n of_o the_o point_n it_o be_v not_o a_o thing_n absolute_o needful_a to_o multiply_v many_o place_n of_o scripture_n in_o this_o case_n in_o a_o especial_a respect_n because_o it_o be_v the_o whole_a scope_n and_o sum_n of_o all_o the_o scripture_n to_o present_a god_n unto_o we_o in_o this_o excellency_n of_o be_v and_o in_o this_o relation_n of_o manna_n that_o it_o have_v that_o taste_n in_o every_o man_n mouth_n that_o every_o man_n desire_v i_o be_o sure_a it_o be_v so_o of_o god_n or_o as_o some_o man_n that_o have_v a_o mind_n at_o some_o dish_n of_o meat_n they_o can_v find_v all_o the_o dainty_n in_o the_o world_n in_o that_o dish_n which_o like_v they_o as_o suppose_v pheasant_n and_o partridge_n &_o capon_n they_o find_v all_o in_o that_o dish_n it_o be_v most_o certain_o and_o real_o true_a of_o god_n not_o in_o conceit_n only_o he_o that_o know_v what_o god_n be_v if_o he_o have_v god_n he_o can_v find_v all_o good_a in_o he_o all_o the_o excellency_n of_o all_o the_o creature_n be_v compendious_o and_o summary_o comprehend_v in_o god_n now_o he_o that_o be_v all-sufficient_a there_o can_v be_v nothing_o want_v in_o he_o to_o make_v perfect_o happy_a even_o by_o himself_o alone_o 2._o but_o now_o to_o speak_v a_o little_a more_o particular_o there_o be_v but_o three_o thing_n that_o i_o shall_v desire_v you_o to_o consider_v and_o no_o doubt_n but_o out_o of_o every_o one_o of_o they_o will_v result_v a_o strong_a and_o clear_a proof_n of_o this_o truth_n first_o consider_v the_o particular_a perfection_n which_o be_v in_o god_n second_o consider_v the_o proportion_n they_o have_v with_o our_o nature_n to_o supply_v our_o want_n three_o consider_v the_o nearness_n of_o that_o conjunction_n and_o communion_n which_o we_o may_v have_v with_o god_n that_o so_o we_o may_v be_v interest_v in_o his_o perfection_n for_o the_o first_o of_o these_o the_o particular_a perfection_n of_o god_n in_o a_o word_n to_o name_n no_o more_o but_o the_o main_a 1._o the_o power_n of_o god_n and_o his_o omnipotency_n 2._o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n and_o his_o omnisciency_n 3._o the_o goodness_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n which_o be_v infinite_o transcendent_a and_o have_v the_o crown_n of_o all_o the_o attribute_n of_o glory_n for_o when_o the_o lord_n tell_v moses_n he_o will_v show_v he_o all_o his_o goodness_n he_o set_v himself_o out_o in_o the_o attribute_n of_o grace_n and_o mercy_n but_o yet_o a_o little_a more_o particular_o 1._o there_o be_v power_n in_o god_n by_o which_o he_o be_v able_a to_o supply_v all_o thing_n whatsoever_o according_a to_o his_o will_n there_o be_v nothing_o but_o his_o omnipotency_n can_v reach_v and_o for_o a_o man_n to_o have_v he_o to_o be_v his_o friend_n that_o be_v lord_n of_o all_o in_o who_o hand_n be_v the_o dispose_n of_o all_o he_o can_v but_o think_v himself_o happy_a have_v the_o possession_n of_o such_o a_o friend_n wisdom_n wisdom_n 2._o all_o wisdom_n be_v he_o if_o he_o know_v not_o our_o want_n but_o be_v ignorant_a of_o they_o though_o he_o have_v all_o power_n it_o be_v nothing_o and_o he_o have_v need_v to_o be_v put_v in_o mind_n to_o show_v it_o but_o now_o he_o know_v our_o state_n and_o condition_n and_o he_o do_v know_v all_o the_o way_n by_o which_o it_o be_v possible_a to_o supply_v our_o necessity_n will_n good_a will_n 3._o but_o yet_o neither_o of_o these_o be_v any_o thing_n though_o he_o have_v power_n and_o wisdom_n yet_o if_o he_o do_v want_v goodness_n this_o will_v little_o relieve_v a_o man_n and_o stand_v he_o in_o stead_n therefore_o we_o add_v in_o the_o three_o place_n the_o excellency_n of_o goodness_n he_o be_v the_o fountain_n of_o all_o goodness_n all_o proceed_v from_o himself_o he_o be_v the_o original_a of_o it_o and_o he_o look_v not_o for_o any_o rise_n from_o we_o now_o to_o have_v god_n in_o who_o there_o be_v such_o a_o concurrence_n of_o all_o these_o that_o have_v all_o power_n to_o help_v i_o in_o all_o case_n that_o there_o be_v nothing_o can_v come_v without_o the_o sphere_n of_o his_o activity_n beyond_o his_o power_n that_o have_v all_o wisdom_n to_o take_v notice_n of_o all_o my_o want_n and_o know_v all_o the_o way_n to_o supply_v they_o and_o beyond_o all_o these_o have_v intelligible_a goodness_n such_o bowel_n of_o compassion_n that_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a but_o he_o shall_v use_v his_o power_n and_o set_v out_o his_o wisdom_n rather_o than_o those_o that_o he_o have_v take_v into_o covenant_n shall_v not_o be_v supply_v who_o will_v not_o easy_o apprehend_v out_o of_o this_o that_o the_o possession_n and_o fruition_n of_o god_n such_o a_o friend_n as_o he_o be_v needs_o no_o more_o all_o be_v in_o his_o power_n suppose_v that_o a_o man_n have_v among_o man_n such_o a_o friend_n suppose_v a_o king_n who_o be_v wise_a and_o do_v know_v in_o what_o state_n and_o condition_n he_o be_v and_o have_v such_o power_n and_o dominion_n that_o he_o can_v command_v any_o thing_n that_o be_v necessary_a for_o the_o supply_n of_o his_o honour_n or_o advancement_n and_o withal_o have_v such_o a_o engagement_n will_v not_o be_v our_o good_a proportion_n proportion_n except_o there_o be_v some_o proportion_n in_o our_o nature_n towards_o it_o it_o be_v not_o in_o god_n in_o all_o those_o excellency_n to_o make_v we_o happy_a unless_o we_o be_v capable_a of_o happiness_n but_o now_o therefore_o consider_v that_o man_n be_v create_v according_a to_o god_n image_n he_o be_v capable_a of_o it_o and_o it_o and_o elevate_v they_o whereas_o all_o other_o creature_n stand_v without_o a_o man_n and_o can_v reach_v so_o far_o but_o in_o he_o we_o live_v and_o move_v and_o have_v our_o be_v to_o omit_v all_o other_o expression_n of_o the_o nearness_n of_o god_n and_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v the_o most_o intimate_a conjunction_n that_o can_v be_v and_o therefore_o the_o fit_a to_o convey_v a_o infinite_a and_o complete_a happiness_n and_o as_o it_o be_v the_o most_o intimate_a conjunction_n so_o it_o be_v the_o most_o indissoluble_a conjunction_n the_o bond_n can_v
never_o be_v untie_v again_o if_o the_o match_n be_v once_o make_v between_o god_n and_o to_o he_o soul_n of_o a_o man_n that_o must_v continue_v which_o be_v the_o excellency_n of_o happiness_n for_o this_o be_v one_o main_a part_n of_o happiness_n that_o it_o shall_v never_o be_v lose_v and_o therefore_o where_o there_o be_v such_o riches_n in_o god_n and_o such_o all_o sufficiency_n as_o appear_v in_o the_o particular_a attribute_n before_o mention_v and_o such_o as_o we_o be_v capable_a of_o as_o be_v within_o the_o sphere_n of_o our_o nature_n capacity_n and_o so_o may_v be_v our_o good_a for_o nothing_o will_v make_v we_o happy_a but_o what_o be_v bonum_fw-la congruum_fw-la and_o where_o we_o may_v come_v to_o have_v sufficient_a conjunction_n with_o it_o a_o intimate_a and_o strong_a conjunction_n and_o indissoluble_a and_o inseparable_a and_o all_o this_o be_v in_o god_n there_o can_v be_v no_o hindrance_n but_o that_o god_n alone_o may_v nay_o god_n alone_o be_v the_o spring_n of_o all_o our_o happiness_n and_o so_o the_o point_n be_v clear_a that_o god_n alone_o can_v make_v a_o man_n true_o and_o perfect_o happy_a give_v we_o the_o real_a and_o the_o royal_a happiness_n the_o five_o sermon_n psalm_n iu_o vi_o there_o be_v may_v that_o say_v who_o will_v show_v we_o any_o good_a lord_n lift_v thou_o up_o the_o light_n of_o thy_o countenance_n upon_o we_o which_o flow_v out_o of_o many_o thing_n and_o be_v so_o often_o speak_v of_o be_v for_o the_o most_o part_n i_o say_v of_o frequent_a use_n and_o therefore_o if_o they_o be_v iterate_v it_o can_v be_v unnecessary_a as_o we_o see_v it_o there_o be_v some_o thing_n that_o be_v more_o necessary_a than_o other_o and_o we_o be_v not_o weary_a of_o use_v they_o often_o nay_o always_o and_o some_o these_o be_v the_o best_a we_o can_v hold_v long_a with_o yet_o if_o we_o use_v they_o always_o the_o stomach_n will_v be_v cloy_v and_o we_o shall_v grow_v weary_a of_o they_o but_o yet_o bread_n we_o be_v not_o weary_a of_o though_o we_o use_v it_o always_o nor_o drink_v we_o be_v not_o weary_a of_o use_v always_o what_o ever_o other_o cate_n or_o dainty_n we_o have_v yet_o these_o be_v common_a concommitant_n of_o all_o our_o eating_n and_o feast_n and_o so_o there_o be_v some_o thing_n in_o religion_n that_o man_n will_v be_v cloy_v with_o all_o with_o hear_v they_o often_o over_o and_o they_o count_v it_o tedious_a to_o have_v they_o often_o inculcate_v upon_o but_o yet_o there_o be_v some_o thing_n that_o be_v so_o necessary_a and_o we_o have_v such_o a_o immediate_a necessity_n of_o they_o that_o the_o state_n of_o our_o soul_n require_v that_o they_o shall_v often_o be_v inculcate_v on_o as_o the_o say_n be_v which_o i_o often_o use_v nanquam_fw-la nimis_fw-la dicitur_fw-la quod_fw-la nunquamm_n satis_fw-la discitur_fw-la we_o can_v never_o hear_v that_o too_o often_o that_o we_o can_v never_o learn_v too_o well_o and_o this_o be_v that_o we_o learn_v hence_o both_o who_o be_v the_o happy_a man_n and_o wherein_o happiness_n consist_v because_o there_o be_v so_o much_o blindness_n and_o darkness_n in_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n this_o way_n and_o man_n be_v so_o befool_v in_o their_o thought_n that_o though_o they_o be_v tell_v of_o it_o a_o thousand_o time_n yet_o they_o will_v relapse_n into_o the_o same_o error_n now_o to_o give_v a_o brief_a touch_n godly_a godly_a we_o see_v here_o that_o a_o godly_a man_n and_o even_o in_o the_o worst_a condition_n felicity_n felicity_n when_o he_o be_v at_o the_o low_a how_o ever_o man_n do_v scorn_n dignity_n dignity_n and_o despise_v man_n in_o that_o condition_n yet_o if_o we_o look_v on_o they_o as_o we_o ought_v to_o do_v with_o judicious_a eye_n we_o must_v needs_o acknowledge_v they_o the_o happy_a man_n admit_v they_o have_v not_o wealth_n admit_v they_o have_v not_o honour_n admit_v they_o have_v not_o pleasure_n in_o this_o world_n but_o it_o be_v all_o contrary_a with_o they_o yet_o if_o they_o have_v god_n who_o be_v the_o all_o in_o all_o in_o point_n of_o happiness_n as_o this_o truth_n manife_v who_o can_v deny_v that_o they_o be_v happy_a man_n we_o see_v the_o star_n although_o we_o see_v they_o sometime_o in_o a_o puddle_n in_o the_o bottom_n of_o a_o well_o nay_o in_o a_o stink_a ditch_n yet_o the_o star_n although_o they_o reflect_v there_o have_v their_o situation_n in_o the_o heaven_n so_o it_o may_v be_v with_o a_o godly_a man_n we_o may_v see_v he_o in_o a_o miserable_a condition_n in_o a_o low_a condition_n for_o these_o worldly_a thing_n but_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o he_o be_v fix_v in_o the_o region_n of_o happiness_n so_o long_o as_o they_o retain_v the_o possession_n of_o god_n and_o the_o fruition_n of_o he_o that_o god_n own_v they_o and_o that_o they_o have_v commerce_n with_o he_o and_o communion_n with_o he_o it_o can_v be_v but_o that_o he_o that_o thus_o partake_v of_o god_n must_v partake_v also_o of_o happiness_n and_o on_o their_o side_n it_o will_v not_o be_v amiss_o though_o it_o be_v do_v enough_o already_o yet_o it_o can_v be_v never_o too_o enough_o to_o beat_v down_o the_o vanity_n of_o worldly_a man_n that_o want_v godliness_n indignity_n wicked_a misery_n indignity_n and_o so_o have_v no_o interest_n in_o god_n but_o live_v in_o their_o natural_a condition_n in_o prophannesse_n or_o some_o high_a their_o corn_n and_o wine_n increase_v this_o will_v bring_v a_o man_n more_o joy_n than_o all_o worldly_a thing_n can_v when_o we_o can_v thus_o be_v possess_v of_o god_n and_o esteem_v of_o he_o all_o those_o thing_n as_o be_v causal_o all_o and_o eminent_o all_o and_o therefore_o the_o joy_n from_o he_o as_o it_o be_v a_o more_o noble_a joy_n so_o it_o be_v beside_o that_o a_o more_o intimate_a joy_n a_o more_o cordial_a joy_n all_o these_o outward_a thing_n can_v but_o come_v to_o the_o outside_n they_o can_v pierce_v into_o the_o heart_n to_o affect_v that_o but_o now_o the_o light_n of_o god_n countenance_n can_v god_n be_v a_o spirit_n he_o can_v penetrate_v the_o spirit_n of_o a_o man_n and_o raise_v the_o spirit_n and_o soul_n of_o a_o man_n and_o set_v it_o above_o himself_o 3_o it_o be_v a_o more_o permanent_a joy_n whereas_o all_o other_o joy_n be_v transient_a joy_n more_o permanent_a joy_n all_o the_o joy_n that_o we_o have_v in_o other_o thing_n be_v as_o the_o thing_n themselves_o be_v but_o transient_a they_o may_v all_o nay_o will_v all_o pass_v away_o and_o all_o be_v turn_v into_o unhappiness_n a_o man_n may_v have_v these_o outward_a thing_n they_o may_v make_v a_o ornament_n of_o joy_n but_o they_o will_v not_o hold_v long_o all_o these_o thing_n be_v momentary_a and_o transient_a a_o man_n may_v have_v they_o to_o day_n but_o they_o will_v betake_v themselves_o to_o their_o wing_n to_o morrow_n they_o can_v last_v long_o at_o most_o not_o long_a than_o this_o life_n but_o the_o joy_n that_o be_v settle_v upon_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n be_v eternal_a joy_n and_o bring_v to_o eternal_a joy_n 2_o as_o it_o will_v bring_v the_o great_a joy_n peace_n the_o sweet_a peace_n the_o most_o excellent_a intimate_a and_o permanent_a joy_n so_o it_o bring_v the_o only_a peace_n i_o say_v the_o possession_n of_o god_n bring_v the_o only_a peace_n i_o will_v lay_v i_o down_o and_o rest_n in_o peace_n a_o man_n may_v be_v secure_a and_o at_o rest_n if_o he_o have_v god_n in_o possession_n if_o he_o have_v god_n for_o his_o friend_n although_o all_o the_o world_n be_v his_o enemy_n this_o may_v secure_v he_o and_o quiet_v he_o god_n be_v he_o and_o what_o can_v all_o the_o world_n do_v to_o he_o whereas_o if_o god_n be_v his_o enemy_n how_o can_v all_o the_o world_n keep_v he_o from_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n can_v god_n find_v he_o out_o i_o say_v although_o he_o have_v all_o the_o world_n to_o guard_v he_o yet_o if_o god_n be_v his_o enemy_n he_o can_v rest_v in_o security_n i_o say_v though_o he_o be_v compass_v with_o all_o the_o world_n and_o have_v it_o as_o a_o guard_n
yet_o more_o often_o bestow_v yet_o more_o time_n in_o meditate_v upon_o our_o way_n reinforcing_a reinforcing_a and_o reinforcing_a ourselves_o upon_o new_a resolution_n humble_v ourselves_o for_o what_o we_o have_v fail_v and_o even_o as_o a_o horse_n will_v do_v after_o every_o stumble_a make_v so_o much_o more_o speed_n so_o after_o all_o our_o stumbling_n and_o fail_n let_v we_o recover_v and_o enforce_v ourselves_o so_o much_o the_o more_o to_o omit_v all_o extraordinary_a case_n and_o extraordinary_a person_n and_o extraordinary_a time_n and_o motion_n of_o god_n spirit_n and_o all_o other_o extraordinary_a occasion_n we_o must_v take_v this_o course_n of_o serious_a examination_n and_o strong_a resolution_n execution_n speedy_a execution_n 3_o and_o then_o there_o remain_v nothing_o but_o speedy_a execution_n to_o let_v upon_o this_o which_o be_v the_o three_o thing_n in_o the_o generality_n and_o which_o i_o will_v express_v a_o little_a more_o particular_o and_o there_o be_v but_o two_o thing_n that_o i_o will_v mention_v as_o most_o considerable_o helpful_a to_o set_v a_o man_n upon_o and_o strengthen_v he_o in_o a_o way_n of_o obedience_n special_a in_o special_a first_o of_o all_o knowledge_n repair_v and_o increase_v in_o knowledge_n the_o repair_n and_o increase_v of_o those_o former_a thing_n in_o the_o point_n as_o namely_o your_o knowledge_n labour_n for_o a_o new_a improvement_n every_o day_n increase_v your_o knowledge_n let_v the_o word_n of_o god_n dwell_v plenteous_o among_o you_o strive_v more_o to_o know_v what_o the_o good_a and_o acceptable_a will_n of_o god_n be_v build_v yourselves_o up_o more_o in_o your_o knowledge_n and_o this_o be_v one_o step_n towards_o our_o obedience_n increase_v your_o faith_n and_o belief_n faith_n fear_n will_v put_v it_o upon_o holy_a obedience_n increase_v also_o your_o love_n and_o sweet_a affection_n towards_o god_n labour_v to_o see_v love_n love_n not_o only_a excellency_n to_o astonish_v but_o beauty_n in_o god_n to_o move_v we_o to_o love_n and_o sweetness_n to_o inflame_v our_o love_n labour_v to_o see_v all_o the_o goodness_n and_o sweetness_n that_o be_v in_o he_o and_o this_o will_v wonderful_o raise_v our_o thought_n to_o love_v he_o and_o that_o love_v infinite_o set_v we_o on_o in_o a_o way_n of_o obedience_n to_o he_o this_o i_o say_v will_v be_v a_o great_a help_n for_o the_o truth_n be_v nothing_o in_o this_o kind_n come_v off_o handsome_o from_o we_o if_o it_o come_v not_o from_o love_n it_o be_v against_o the_o hair_n if_o it_o come_v not_o from_o a_o principle_n of_o love_n whereas_o on_o the_o otherside_n as_o the_o say_n be_v marti_fw-la arma_fw-la non_fw-la sunt_fw-la onera_fw-la the_o commandment_n of_o god_n will_v not_o be_v burdensome_a to_o we_o if_o we_o love_v god_n so_o that_o now_o the_o increase_a and_o the_o renew_n of_o every_o one_o of_o these_o former_a thing_n will_v be_v a_o mean_n to_o set_v we_o upon_o obedience_n for_o every_o one_o of_o they_o seru_v proportionable_o for_o the_o water_v of_o the_o very_a root_n of_o obedience_n to_o make_v it_o thrive_v and_o prosper_v though_o i_o do_v not_o now_o for_o it_o be_v not_o necessary_a if_o i_o will_v make_v a_o young_a tree_n grow_v that_o i_o have_v plant_v that_o i_o shall_v go_v to_o the_o top_n or_o bough_n of_o the_o tree_n and_o cast_v water_n there_o it_o be_v but_o frivolous_a for_o it_o suffice_v to_o cast_v the_o water_n at_o the_o root_n for_o it_o be_v the_o root_n that_o nourish_v all_o the_o branch_n and_o all_o the_o sap_n it_o be_v first_o at_o the_o root_n and_o so_o convey_v to_o the_o bough_n and_o branch_n so_o it_o be_v in_o this_o case_n i_o do_v not_o speak_v of_o water_v the_o top_n of_o obedience_n to_o make_v it_o flourish_v outward_o but_o water_n the_o root_n with_o this_o knowledge_n and_o these_o affection_n which_o be_v the_o root_n of_o all_o the_o action_n of_o obedience_n and_o then_o there_o will_v natural_o issue_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o obedience_n for_o if_o these_o be_v keep_v well_o and_o strong_a if_o these_o be_v renew_v and_o further_v the_o other_o will_v be_v a_o natural_a issue_n out_o of_o it_o 2._o but_o yet_o to_o speak_v a_o little_a more_o particular_o these_o exercise_v these_o the_o main_a thing_n that_o will_v help_v we_o in_o obedience_n be_v the_o very_a act_n and_o exercise_v of_o obedience_n every_o act_n be_v strengthen_v and_o every_o habit_n be_v strengthen_v by_o the_o exercise_n of_o many_o act_n of_o that_o habit_n and_o it_o grow_v to_o be_v strengthen_v by_o frequent_a use_n obedience_n be_v a_o thing_n that_o can_v be_v otherwise_o strengthen_v but_o only_o by_o mere_a practice_n so_o that_o this_o be_v the_o main_n viz._n the_o set_n upon_o the_o work_n not_o only_o meditate_v and_o ponder_v upon_o it_o and_o think_v what_o i_o ought_v to_o do_v to_o obey_v god_n but_o when_o i_o do_v know_v what_o his_o will_n be_v i_o must_v set_v upon_o the_o do_n of_o it_o i_o must_v not_o dispute_v about_o the_o thing_n but_o fall_v upon_o the_o do_n of_o the_o thing_n which_o i_o know_v i_o ought_v to_o do_v and_o now_o in_o this_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n some_o thing_n must_v be_v take_v heed_n of_o that_o will_v hinder_v we_o in_o the_o practice_n of_o obedience_n heed_n take_v heed_n and_o some_o thing_n that_o we_o must_v take_v care_n of_o that_o will_v exceed_o further_o we_o in_o a_o course_n of_o obedience_n i_o will_v but_o touch_v upon_o some_o few_o thing_n in_o either_o reason_v take_v heed_n of_o such_o carnal_a thing_n carnal_a of_o carnal_a as_o will_v choke_v we_o in_o the_o very_a thought_n when_o we_o be_v to_o go_v about_o a_o course_n of_o obedience_n i_o say_v will_v choke_v the_o very_a thought_n as_o 1._o carnal_a reason_n it_o be_v a_o wonderful_a thing_n to_o see_v and_o yet_o no_o wonder_n when_o we_o consider_v our_o natural_a condition_n how_o many_o thing_n will_v boil_v as_o it_o be_v out_o of_o the_o heart_n how_o many_o foolish_a excuse_n and_o how_o many_o vain_a pretence_n to_o keep_v a_o man_n off_o from_o duty_n when_o a_o man_n have_v some_o thought_n to_o go_v about_o it_o as_o when_o a_o man_n have_v some_o thought_n to_o go_v and_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o god_n then_o arise_v such_o a_o hinder_v think_v as_o thus_o i_o can_v sit_v at_o home_n and_o read_v the_o while_n and_o save_v my_o labour_n of_o go_v i_o know_v what_o the_o minister_n will_v say_v viz._n that_o it_o be_v but_o faith_n and_o obedience_n we_o must_v labour_v for_o and_o so_o many_o other_o thing_n there_o may_v be_v and_o indeed_o so_o many_o as_o that_o they_o will_v take_v we_o off_o from_o the_o thing_n we_o shall_v and_o indeed_o otherwise_o will_v do_v it_o be_v strange_a to_o think_v of_o the_o infinite_a reach_a and_o rack_a a_o man_n wit_n to_o make_v excuse_n some_o thought_n of_o other_o be_v in_o the_o way_n either_o it_o be_v not_o now_o time_n or_o some_o thing_n else_o there_o be_v always_o some_o dispute_v that_o reason_n will_v suggest_v by_o which_o we_o contradict_v our_o intent_n and_o choke_v our_o purpose_n of_o do_v this_o or_o that_o duty_n take_v heed_n therefore_o wit_n will_v find_v something_o to_o say_v against_o it_o but_o it_o be_v no_o matter_n what_o man_n or_o thy_o own_o carnal_a reason_n say_v so_o god_n word_n say_v otherwise_o and_o therefore_o away_o with_o all_o such_o foolish_a carnal_a reason_n as_o these_o i_o will_v do_v such_o a_o duty_n but_o there_o be_v a_o secret_a suggestion_n of_o my_o heart_n now_o that_o i_o think_v it_o not_o best_o to_o do_v it_o or_o i_o will_v do_v it_o some_o other_o time_n but_o away_o with_o these_o when_o we_o know_v what_o we_o shall_v do_v fall_v on_o it_o and_o do_v it_o away_o with_o carnal_a fear_n fear_v fear_v away_o with_o fear_n take_v heed_n of_o it_o rusticus_n expectat_fw-la etc._n etc._n a_o country_n man_n expect_v at_o the_o water_n side_n to_o go_v over_o he_o see_v the_o waterrun_a and_o be_v resolve_v to_o stay_v till_o it_o be_v all_o go_v but_o he_o consider_v not_o that_o it_o come_v from_o a_o fountain_n and_o so_o as_o there_o will_v be_v dispute_n always_o so_o there_o be_v a_o spring_n of_o difficulty_n that_o will_v arise_v as_o indeed_o there_o can_v beno_fw-la good_a action_n but_o there_o be_v or_o may_v be_v some_o danger_n or_o difficulty_n in_o the_o perform_n of_o it_o and_o something_o that_o may_v be_v a_o restraint_n against_o the_o performance_n of_o it_o carnal_a fear_n will_v hinder_v i_o shall_v have_v some_o shame_n a_o nick_n name_n it_o may_v be_v set_v upon_o i_o i_o say_v carnal_a fear_n of_o shame_n may_v hinder_v that_o be_v a_o other_o but_o we_o must_v rectify_v this_o fear_n with_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n nay_o mortify_v it_o a_o man_n must_v not_o respect_v such_o foolish_a thing_n nor_o fear_v some_o bugbears_a but_o fear_v god_n and_o let_v that_o fear_n extinguish_v all_o carnal_a fear_n that_o may_n otherwise_o discourage_v and_o dishearten_v we_o in_o the_o thought_n of_o any_o duty_n 3._o there_o be_v likewise_o carnal_a sloth_n sloath._n sloath._n and_o sluggishness_n of_o our_o nature_n whereby_o we_o learn_v to_o delay_v and_o put_v off_o and_o the_o devil_n be_v ready_a to_o envegle_v we_o with_o it_o and_o put_v it_o into_o our_o head_n that_o this_o may_v be_v do_v soon_o enough_o before_o i_o die_v what_o shall_v i_o be_v godly_a and_o holy_a and_o be_v a_o saint_n before_o i_o come_v to_o heaven_n yes_o i_o tell_v you_o you_o must_v you_o must_v be_v saint_n here_o or_o else_o you_o shall_v never_o be_v saint_n there_o do_v not_o delay_v nor_o dally_v nor_o suffer_v your_o corrupt_a nature_n therefore_o to_o keep_v you_o off_o by_o any_o reason_n that_o can_v be_v object_v to_o think_v into_o what_o a_o labyrioth_n the_o world_n lee_v a_o man_n if_o he_o will_v dance_v after_o the_o pipe_n of_o it_o sometime_o with_o this_o thing_n and_o sometime_o with_o the_o other_o thing_n so_o that_o there_o be_v no_o time_n for_o any_o duty_n to_o god_n do_v it_o i_o must_v and_o not_o slothful_o i_o see_v that_o this_o be_v a_o duty_n and_o there_o be_v no_o excuse_n to_o be_v make_v but_o the_o subtlety_n of_o the_o world_n insinuate_v itself_o into_o we_o draw_v we_o from_o one_o task_n to_o a_o other_o task_n from_o one_o occasion_n to_o a_o other_o oceasion_n from_o one_o visit_n to_o a_o other_o visit_v and_o compliment_n after_o compliment_n that_o a_o man_n eat_v out_o all_o his_o precious_a time_n &_o cat_n out_o all_o good_a thought_n while_o a_o man_n dance_v in_o that_o maze_n and_o follow_v the_o world_n in_o a_o wild_a goose_n chafe_v and_o certain_o if_o a_o man_n will_v stay_v while_o all_o worldly_a business_n be_v do_v a_o man_n shall_v never_o have_v any_o time_n for_o god_n but_o remember_v one_o thing_n be_v necessary_a take_v your_o selve_v off_o from_o worldly_a distraction_n do_v not_o plunge_v yourselves_o over_o
