much_o in_o the_o love_n of_o our_o brethren_n for_o his_o sake_n for_o whereas_o divers_a man_n make_v this_o prayer_n for_o pardon_n of_o sin_n either_o do_v not_o believe_v at_o all_o the_o pardon_n of_o their_o sin_n or_o else_o deceive_v themselves_o with_o a_o opinion_n of_o faith_n not_o love_v he_o of_o who_o they_o look_v for_o pardon_n nor_o their_o brethren_n for_o his_o sake_n but_o with_o the_o ungracious_a servant_n matth._n 18._o 28._o exact_a small_a debt_n of_o their_o brethren_n and_o revenge_v offence_n commit_v against_o they_o as_o though_o they_o can_v love_v god_n and_o yet_o hate_v their_o brother_n therefore_o our_o saviour_n teach_v we_o to_o add_v to_o the_o petition_n this_o protestation_n that_o if_o we_o be_v able_a to_o make_v it_o in_o truth_n we_o may_v be_v assure_v of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o not_o be_v deceive_v as_o many_o be_v in_o our_o assurance_n first_o therefore_o because_o we_o be_v so_o full_a of_o infidelity_n and_o diffidence_n that_o we_o be_v hardly_o bring_v to_o believe_v in_o particular_a the_o forgiveness_n of_o our_o own_o sin_n and_o consequent_o to_o make_v this_o prayer_n in_o faith_n our_o saviour_n teach_v we_o to_o use_v this_o notable_a argument_n not_o so_o much_o to_o move_v god_n as_o to_o confirm_v ourselves_o draw_v from_o the_o less_o to_o the_o great_a as_o we_o also_o forgive_v etc._n etc._n or_o as_o it_o be_v more_o plain_o set_v down_o in_o luke_n for_o even_o we_o also_o forgive_v etc._n etc._n and_o the_o reason_n stand_v thus_o if_o we_o who_o have_v not_o so_o much_o pity_n in_o regard_n of_o thy_o abundant_a mercy_n as_o be_v a_o drop_n of_o water_n in_o comparison_n of_o the_o ocean_n sea_n if_o we_o i_o say_v be_v ready_a to_o forgive_v the_o offence_n and_o injury_n do_v against_o we_o than_o no_o doubt_n thou_o will_v forgive_v our_o offence_n which_o we_o from_o the_o bottom_n of_o our_o heart_n confess_v unto_o thou_o with_o deprecation_n of_o pardon_n but_o even_o we_o lord_n who_o mercy_n be_v as_o nothing_o in_o comparison_n of_o thou_o be_v ready_a to_o remit_v offence_n commit_v against_o we_o and_o therefore_o as_o we_o earnest_o crave_v pardon_n so_o we_o do_v unfeigned_o believe_v that_o thou_o will_v forgive_v we_o our_o sin_n the_o connexion_n of_o the_o proposition_n be_v necessary_a for_o as_o we_o say_v quoth_v in_o minori_fw-la valet_fw-la valet_fw-la etiam_fw-la in_o majori_fw-la that_o which_o be_v of_o force_n in_o the_o lesser_a be_v of_o force_n also_o in_o the_o great_a if_o a_o drop_n of_o not_o god_n it_o be_v a_o certain_a sign_n that_o we_o do_v not_o believe_v in_o he_o nor_o be_v persuade_v of_o his_o love_n towards_o we_o in_o the_o forgive_n of_o our_o sin_n if_o we_o believe_v less_o be_v forgive_v he_o love_v less_o and_o by_o the_o parable_n of_o the_o two_o debtor_n ver_fw-la 41._o whereof_o he_o love_v more_o to_o which_o more_o be_v forgive_v so_o that_o our_o love_n be_v not_o the_o cause_n of_o forgiveness_n but_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o our_o sin_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o our_o love_n and_o therefore_o our_o love_n a_o effect_n fruit_n and_o sign_n of_o the_o to_o the_o great_a to_o confirm_v our_o faith_n in_o the_o assurance_n of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o our_o sin_n that_o less_o be_v also_o a_o undoubted_a fruit_n and_o sure_a sign_n of_o the_o remission_n of_o our_o sin_n but_o now_o let_v we_o consider_v the_o word_n particular_o and_o so_o come_v to_o the_o use_n by_o our_o debtor_n be_v mean_v such_o as_o have_v offend_v or_o 〈◊〉_d wrong_v we_o or_o as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v col._n 3._o 13._o against_o who_o we_o have_v any_o quarrel_n but_o what_o debtor_n be_o i_o to_o forgive_v may_v some_o body_n object_n say_v i_o can_v be_v content_a sometime_o to_o put_v up_o a_o injury_n at_o the_o hand_n of_o my_o better_a but_o i_o can_v brook_v that_o my_o equal_a shall_v crow_v over_o i_o or_o that_o my_o inferior_a shall_v be_v too_o saucy_a with_o i_o i_o can_v be_v content_a to_o remit_v some_o offence_n but_o great_a indignity_n i_o can_v put_v up_o answ._n our_o saviour_n speak_v indefinite_o and_o general_o answ._n without_o difference_n of_o debtor_n so_o that_o whosoever_o be_v our_o debtor_n we_o must_v forgive_v he_o if_o we_o will_v have_v assurance_n that_o god_n have_v forgive_v our_o sin_n but_o this_o be_v more_o plain_o express_v luke_n 11._o for_o even_o we_o also_o forgive_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d every_o one_o that_o be_v indebt_v to_o we_o so_o that_o our_o love_n must_v not_o be_v answ._n or_o good_n but_o of_o trespass_n offence_n and_o wrong_n which_o in_o the_o chaldee_n and_o syriack_n tongue_n be_v call_v debt_n etc._n etc._n as_o for_o due_a debt_n of_o money_n and_o good_n they_o thou_o may_v exact_v of_o those_o which_o be_v able_a to_o pay_v so_o that_o it_o be_v do_v without_o use_v rigour_n or_o seek_v extremity_n what_o be_v mean_v by_o we_o forgive_v we_o forgive_v god_n alone_a forgive_v sin_n how_o object_n then_o can_v we_o be_v say_v to_o forgive_v our_o debtor_n forgive_v we_o must_v distinguish_v both_o of_o the_o debt_n which_o be_v forgive_v and_o also_o of_o forgive_a in_o every_o offence_n 1._o commit_v against_o the_o neighbour_n two_o party_n be_v offend_v god_n mediate_o and_o the_o neighbour_n immediate_o and_o so_o it_o may_v be_v consider_v either_o as_o a_o transgression_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o so_o it_o be_v proper_o call_v sin_n 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d or_o as_o it_o hurt_v or_o hinder_v the_o neighbour_n and_o be_v call_v a_o injury_n or_o wrong_n as_o therefore_o it_o be_v a_o transgression_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n no_o man_n can_v remit_v it_o but_o as_o it_o be_v a_o injury_n or_o wrong_n do_v to_o a_o man_n he_o may_v remit_v it_o again_o god_n be_v 2._o say_v to_o forgive_v a_o sin_n when_o he_o be_v content_v not_o only_o to_o forget_v the_o fault_n but_o also_o to_o forgive_v the_o punishment_n for_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n impute_v to_o the_o sinner_n man_n be_v say_v to_o forgive_v a_o offence_n not_o when_o he_o remit_v the_o punishment_n due_a unto_o it_o by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n for_o that_o be_v not_o in_o his_o power_n to_o do_v but_o when_o he_o do_v abandon_v all_o purpose_n and_o desire_v of_o revenge_n all_o hatred_n and_o ill_a will_n towards_o his_o brother_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o offence_n if_o this_o be_v true_a then_o belike_o no_o man_n may_v complain_v 2._o plain_a to_o the_o magistrate_n or_o seek_v his_o remedy_n by_o law_n when_o he_o have_v susteinâ—…d_v injury_n or_o wrong_n although_o we_o be_v to_o forgive_v from_o our_o heart_n every_o answ._n one_o that_o offend_v we_o yet_o we_o may_v in_o some_o case_n observe_v
