a_o influence_n upon_o his_o life_n and_o indeed_o this_o be_v such_o a_o faith_n as_o the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o the_o devil_n be_v possess_v of_o they_o believe_v and_o tremble_v 2._o the_o second_o be_v their_o notion_n who_o make_v justify_v faith_n to_o be_v what_o our_o saviour_n tell_v we_o it_o be_v john_n 1._o 12._o a_o receive_v of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n a_o close_n a_o suffer_v he_o to_o hope_n or_o trust_v in_o another_o for_o any_o kindness_n which_o he_o have_v promise_v upon_o term_n without_o the_o fulfil_n of_o those_o term_n upon_o which_o it_o be_v promise_v to_o have_v be_v the_o notion_n of_o some_o eminent_a divine_n upon_o our_o first_o reformation_n but_o be_v reject_v by_o latter_a divine_n as_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o that_o shall_v be_v a_o instrument_n in_o our_o justification_n which_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o any_o soul_n shall_v have_v till_o it_o be_v justify_v beside_o that_o many_o a_o pious_a devout_a soul_n have_v not_o arrive_v at_o this_o 4._o other_o make_v it_o to_o be_v a_o confident_a persuasion_n that_o christ_n die_v for_o they_o whether_o they_o find_v themselves_o oblige_v to_o live_v to_o he_o yea_o or_o no._n 5._o other_o make_v it_o to_o be_v a_o practical_a assent_n to_o the_o gospel_n the_o danger_n of_o a_o soul_n presume_v be_v from_o the_o first_o and_o the_o four_o of_o these_o principal_o if_o man_n and_o woman_n think_v they_o do_v believe_v because_o they_o do_v agree_v to_o the_o proposition_n of_o the_o gospel_n they_o may_v easy_o run_v away_o with_o a_o vain_a imagination_n that_o all_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v their_o portion_n when_o indeed_o not_o one_o of_o they_o belong_v to_o they_o because_o this_o believe_v be_v not_o that_o believe_v which_o the_o scripture_n make_v necessary_a to_o salvation_n for_o the_o evidence_n of_o which_o suffer_v i_o to_o offer_v these_o few_o thing_n to_o your_o consideration_n 1._o because_o this_o assent_n may_v be_v without_o any_o holiness_n or_o conformity_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n murderer_n traitor_n thief_n do_v agree_v to_o the_o proposition_n of_o humane_a law_n though_o they_o prodigious_o violate_v they_o there_o may_v be_v a_o assent_n of_o the_o understanding_n to_o a_o proposition_n to_o which_o man_n lust_n and_o passion_n suffer_v they_o not_o to_o live_v up_o to_o but_o we_o know_v that_o without_o holiness_n none_o can_v see_v god_n and_o therefore_o this_o can_v be_v that_o believe_v to_o which_o the_o promise_n of_o see_v god_n and_o live_n with_o he_o our_o life_n and_o oftentimes_o man_n and_o woman_n be_v so_o rational_a by_o time_n and_o in_o some_o act_n that_o it_o be_v a_o very_a hard_a judgement_n to_o be_v make_v by_o stander_n by_o whether_o such_o miserable_a creature_n do_v such_o a_o act_n do_v it_o under_o the_o conduct_n of_o their_o reason_n for_o the_o avoid_n of_o a_o great_a misery_n as_o they_o suppose_v which_o they_o bless_a eternity_n into_o which_o the_o soul_n of_o some_o man_n and_o woman_n shall_v enter_v yet_o there_o be_v also_o a_o miserable_a eternity_n into_o which_o the_o soul_n of_o other_o shall_v go_v and_o for_o the_o bless_a eternity_n into_o which_o some_o shall_v enter_v the_o way_n to_o it_o be_v direct_v by_o god_n word_n and_o not_o by_o our_o own_o fancy_n and_o that_o it_o be_v no_o way_n to_o do_v it_o to_o die_v in_o a_o sinful_a act_n which_o leave_v hardly_o any_o room_n for_o repentance_n and_o speak_v the_o great_a unbelief_n imaginable_a so_o that_o i_o say_v the_o general_a motive_n prevail_v with_o any_o to_o the_o least_o harken_v to_o this_o temptation_n be_v the_o removal_n of_o ourselves_o from_o the_o fear_n or_o present_a sense_n of_o some_o evil_n which_o either_o press_n or_o threaten_v we_o this_o be_v find_v out_o certain_o there_o can_v be_v nothing_o imagine_v more_o effectual_a to_o deliver_v we_o from_o the_o dint_n of_o this_o temptation_n then_o serious_o to_o consider_v with_o ourselves_o 1._o whether_o the_o destroy_n ourselves_o will_v effect_v that_o end_n indeed_o deliver_v the_o soul_n from_o such_o evil_n 2._o whether_o suppose_v that_o it_o will_v deliverance_n may_v not_o be_v hope_v for_o another_o way_n far_o more_o certain_a and_o more_o advantageous_a as_o to_o the_o first_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n must_v be_v more_o certain_a of_o his_o or_o her_o happy_a state_n after_o this_o life_n than_o it_o be_v possible_a a_o soul_n shall_v be_v that_o do_v entertain_v such_o thought_n or_o he_o can_v never_o be_v assure_v that_o the_o do_v of_o such_o a_o act_n shall_v deliver_v he_o from_o the_o misery_n under_o which_o he_o groan_v it_o be_v indeed_o very_o possible_a that_o a_o soul_n shall_v be_v under_o the_o assurance_n of_o eternal_a life_n whatever_o the_o papist_n say_v but_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o a_o soul_n shall_v be_v under_o this_o assurance_n at_o the_o same_o time_n have_v it_o in_o his_o heart_n and_o resolve_v to_o do_v that_o act_n as_o to_o which_o the_o scripture_n have_v say_v that_o he_o that_o do_v it_o shall_v not_o inherit_v everlasting_a life_n or_o have_v not_o eternal_a life_n now_o admit_v the_o soul_n not_o to_o enter_v into_o life_n he_o certain_o go_v into_o the_o lake_n that_o burn_v with_o fire_n and_o brimstone_n where_o the_o worm_n degree_n of_o misery_n either_o feel_v or_o fear_v be_v so_o wild_a and_o irrational_a a_o undertake_n as_o no_o soul_n under_o the_o guidance_n of_o reason_n can_v do_v it_o but_o one_o that_o believe_v no_o hell_n so_o that_o it_o be_v a_o act_n agree_v only_o to_o a_o unbeliever_n or_o a_o madman_n a_o atheist_n or_o a_o man_n distract_v 2._o but_o second_o admit_v now_o that_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n destroy_v he_o or_o herself_o will_v bring_v he_o or_o her_o a_o deliverance_n from_o misery_n in_o the_o grave_a job_n say_v the_o wicked_a cease_v from_o trouble_v the_o weary_a be_v at_o rest_n the_o prisoner_n rest_n and_o hear_v not_o the_o voice_n of_o the_o oppressor_n the_o servant_n be_v free_a from_o his_o master_n so_o then_o if_o man_n soul_n expire_v with_o their_o body_n death_n will_v deliver_v they_o it_o free_v the_o beast_n of_o the_o field_n and_o all_o sensitive_a creature_n admit_v it_o will_v so_o free_v a_o man_n or_o woman_n which_o it_o will_v not_o yet_o certain_o it_o be_v by_o no_o mean_n eligible_a unless_o we_o can_v be_v free_v no_o other_o way_n and_o to_o no_o better_a advantage_n suppose_v a_o man_n or_o woman_n under_o a_o painful_a fit_n of_o the_o gout_n or_o under_o a_o extremity_n of_o pain_n in_o some_o particular_a member_n or_o joint_n so_o as_o the_o cut_n off_o a_o hand_n or_o a_o leg_n or_o a_o joint_n will_v certain_o cure_v he_o yet_o who_o almost_o if_o it_o be_v but_o as_o to_o the_o pull_v out_o of_o a_o tooth_n will_v purchase_v his_o freedom_n from_o pain_n at_o that_o rate_n till_o he_o or_o she_o see_v that_o no_o other_o way_n will_v do_v thou_o be_v under_o a_o great_a degree_n of_o misery_n great_a bodily_a pain_n or_o torment_n or_o in_o danger_n of_o some_o great_a shame_n misery_n or_o reproach_n thou_o have_v a_o temptation_n to_o free_v thyself_o from_o the_o pressure_n of_o it_o by_o destroy_v thyself_o and_o which_o be_v the_o best_a thou_o can_v fancy_v if_o thou_o be_v a_o atheist_n annihilate_v thy_o be_v but_o be_v there_o no_o other_o way_n than_o this_o for_o thy_o relief_n be_v there_o not_o a_o wait_a upon_o god_n a_o exercise_v of_o hope_n and_o confidence_n in_o he_o be_v he_o not_o able_a to_o support_v and_o to_o bear_v thou_o up_o under_o these_o pressure_n to_o make_v thy_o burden_n light_n unto_o thou_o and_o to_o take_v it_o off_o thy_o shoulder_n circumstance_n than_o such_o book_n such_o sermon_n such_o portion_n of_o holy_a writ_n as_o most_o express_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n against_o sinner_n most_o lively_o express_v the_o miserable_a estate_n of_o soul_n in_o another_o world_n under_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n together_o with_o such_o as_o contain_v or_o explain_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n for_o support_n and_o strength_n and_o help_v under_o and_o deliverance_n from_o the_o great_a pressure_n of_o affliction_n and_o misery_n by_o the_o read_n and_o hear_v of_o the_o one_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n concur_v which_o be_v always_o requisite_a to_o make_v the_o soul_n believe_v what_o it_o read_v and_o hear_v a_o soul_n shall_v be_v deter_v from_o such_o a_o undertake_n from_o the_o rational_a consideration_n that_o there_o be_v no_o way_n for_o it_o to_o get_v out_o of_o its_o misery_n and_o by_o the_o other_o it_o shall_v be_v persuade_v that_o there_o be_v a_o far_o near_a and_o more_o certain_a way_n of_o relief_n for_o it_o if_o it_o can_v but_o exercise_v a_o little_a patience_n from_o the_o good_a hand_n of_o god_n who_o be_v able_a to_o relieve_v it_o and_o who_o have_v promise_v and_o be_v faithful_a which_o two_o point_n be_v of_o very_o great_a import_n for_o a_o soul_n to_o be_v persuade_v of_o that_o it_o may_v stand_v against_o this_o fiery_a dart_n and_o of_o that_o nature_n that_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o any_o soul_n in_o the_o full_a possession_n and_o belief_n of_o they_o shall_v ever_o listen_v to_o this_o temptation_n so_o long_o as_o it_o please_v god_n to_o keep_v it_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o its_o reason_n let_v therefore_o every_o soul_n under_o this_o temptation_n make_v it_o its_o business_n to_o give_v itself_o the_o full_a possession_n of_o
