these_o three_o office_n but_o the_o act_n of_o conscience_n in_o execute_v these_o office_n be_v all_o internal_a and_o within_o a_o man_n soul_n how_o can_v its_o liberty_n in_o exert_v those_o act_n be_v infringe_v by_o any_o humane_a power_n what_o earthly_a power_n can_v make_v i_o assent_v to_o or_o believe_v what_o it_o please_v can_v so_o give_v law_n to_o my_o conscience_n as_o to_o necessitate_v i_o to_o receive_v they_o for_o such_o and_o to_o think_v they_o good_a law_n and_o safe_a to_o steer_v my_o action_n by_o again_o how_o can_v any_o such_o power_n deprive_v i_o of_o one_o if_o we_o consider_v that_o there_o be_v scarce_o any_o thing_n so_o extravagant_a or_o wicked_a but_o the_o conscience_n of_o some_o or_o other_o may_v urge_v they_o to_o it_o nay_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o man_n have_v pretend_a conscience_n for_o some_o of_o the_o most_o impious_a and_o most_o villainous_a action_n in_o the_o world_n so_o the_o papist_n have_v do_v among_o ourselves_o we_o all_o know_v and_o another_o sort_n of_o people_n too_o who_o principle_n though_o very_o bad_a be_v better_a than_o they_o and_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a for_o we_o to_o know_v that_o their_o pretence_n of_o conscience_n be_v more_o pretence_n nor_o be_v it_o hard_o for_o we_o to_o persuade_v ourselves_o that_o through_o the_o just_a judgement_n of_o god_n for_o past_a provocation_n the_o light_n and_o light_n for_o darkness_n and_o bitter_a for_o sweet_a and_o sweet_a for_o bitter_a for_o we_o find_v a_o woe_n pronounce_v against_o such_o as_o do_v so_o isaiah_n 5._o 20._o which_o suspend_v or_o total_o deprive_v of_o his_o ministerial_a office_n as_o be_v any_o other_o officer_n i_o do_v but_o touch_v upon_o and_o give_v light_a glance_n at_o these_o thing_n because_o my_o a_o thing_n as_o to_o be_v uncapable_a of_o be_v oblige_v by_o humane_a law_n 2._o that_o no_o man_n can_v proper_o be_v deprive_v of_o the_o true_a liberty_n of_o his_o conscience_n by_o any_o power_n on_o earth_n that_o what_o be_v contend_v for_o be_v more_o proper_o liberty_n of_o practice_n than_o of_o conscience_n the_o author_n opinion_n in_o reference_n to_o this_o liberty_n deliver_v in_o ten_o proposition_n that_o whatsoever_o liberty_n of_o this_o nature_n may_v be_v insist_v on_o as_o our_o right_n it_o be_v not_o christian_a liberty_n but_o natural_a liberty_n any_o power_n on_o earth_n first_o that_o conscience_n be_v not_o so_o sacred_a a_o thing_n as_o to_o be_v uncapable_a of_o be_v oblige_v by_o humane_a law_n this_o be_v sufficient_o clear_a from_o what_o be_v discourse_v in_o the_o thirteen_o chapter_n but_o it_o be_v say_v by_o many_o that_o god_n be_v the_o only_a lord_n of_o conscience_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v the_o high_a presumption_n for_o man_n to_o go_v about_o to_o bind_v it_o by_o their_o law_n it_o be_v the_o sole_a prerogative_n of_o the_o deity_n to_o search_v the_o heart_n 10._o and_o try_v the_o reins_o of_o the_o child_n of_o man_n conscience_n be_v too_o inward_a and_o secret_a a_o thing_n to_o fall_v under_o man_n cognizance_n and_o therefore_o what_o have_v any_o of_o our_o fellow-creature_n to_o do_v to_o give_v law_n to_o our_o conscience_n in_o answer_n hereunto_o we_o have_v already_o see_v what_o s._n paul_n sense_n be_v about_o this_o matter_n that_o he_o say_v we_o must_v needs_o be_v subject_a 5._o or_o obedient_a and_o that_o not_o only_o for_o wrath_n but_o also_o for_o conscience_n sake_n so_o that_o the_o apostle_n be_v far_o from_o think_v that_o the_o obligation_n of_o humane_a authority_n former_a before_o the_o latter_a consider_v in_o themselves_o and_o therefore_o will_v be_v a_o wicked_a wretch_n if_o he_o be_v not_o hold_v in_o by_o the_o mere_a hope_n of_o a_o reward_n and_o fear_n of_o punishment_n though_o he_o be_v never_o so_o conformable_a outward_o to_o the_o law_n of_o christ_n this_o man_n be_v no_o christian._n he_o be_v much_o near_o to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o be_v say_v we_o learn_v what_o to_o think_v of_o the_o principle_n of_o gratitude_n whether_o this_o make_v that_o obedience_n which_o arise_v from_o thence_o the_o most_o genuine_o christian_a obedience_n as_o it_o be_v ordinary_o say_v it_o do_v if_o our_o gratitude_n proceed_v mere_o from_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o divine_a bounty_n to_o our_o self_n take_v no_o notice_n of_o
