world_n who_o be_v ready_a not_o only_o to_o think_v but_o to_o say_v as_o he_o in_o the_o parable_n that_o christ_n be_v a_o austere_a man_n luke_n 19.21_o no_o my_o brethren_n christ_n you_o see_v be_v not_o austere_a but_o sweet_a as_o his_o name_n be_v so_o be_v his_o nature_n love_n and_o that_o in_o a_o transcendent_a manner_n be_v reprove_v wretch_n in_o entertain_v unkind_a or_o revile_v thought_n of_o christ_n you_o wrong_v he_o in_o his_o love_n and_o yourselves_o in_o the_o truth_n while_o you_o think_v or_o say_v that_o he_o be_v not_o a_o love_a lord_n you_o shall_v ere_o long_o for_o you_o hear_v that_o he_o love_v even_o all_o he_o with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n i_o profess_v it_o be_v sad_a to_o see_v upon_o what_o petty_a poor_a occasion_n even_o believer_n themselves_o be_v ready_a to_o question_v at_o least_o the_o greatness_n of_o christ_n love_n if_o he_o deni_v they_o though_o but_o a_o vanity_n yet_o because_o their_o heart_n be_v set_v upon_o it_o so_o much_o they_o think_v that_o his_o heart_n be_v not_o set_v upon_o they_o at_o all_o such_o be_v their_o weakness_n they_o be_v ready_a to_o think_v that_o christ_n love_v they_o but_o a_o little_a because_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n will_n well_o believer_n let_v in_o then_o have_v such_o a_o work_n in_o your_o bosom_n o_o let_v his_o transcendent_a love_n which_o you_o may_v read_v write_v with_o the_o strange_o one_o upon_o another_o who_o be_v yet_o all_o belove_v of_o jesus_n christ_n but_o sad_a it_o be_v to_o see_v any_o saint_n look_v upon_o another_o with_o a_o frown_a countenance_n when_o as_o christ_n look_v upon_o he_o as_o well_o as_o upon_o himself_o with_o a_o smile_a face_n who_o do_v not_o bleed_v to_o see_v one_o believer_n to_o write_v a_o book_n of_o revile_n against_o another_o when_o as_o you_o look_v upon_o the_o gospel_n as_o a_o glorious_a book_n of_o love_n writ_v by_o christ_n to_o they_o all_o tell_v it_o not_o in_o gath_n publish_v it_o not_o in_o the_o street_n of_o askelon_n o_o let_v not_o the_o daughter_n of_o the_o unbeloved_a triumph_n to_o see_v you_o who_o be_v the_o high_o belove_v one_o of_o jesus_n christ_n traduce_v and_o revile_v one_o another_o i_o say_v no_o more_o but_o this_o since_o jesus_n christ_n do_v love_v all_o the_o saint_n and_o every_o believer_n with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n do_v you_o who_o be_v believer_n and_o beneath_o we_o and_o in_o that_o respect_n not_o so_o much_o desirable_a it_o be_v this_o golden_a apple_n of_o knowledge_n which_o be_v so_o take_v and_o tempt_v with_o our_o grandmother_n eve_n that_o albeit_o the_o best_a that_o she_o get_v by_o eat_v that_o apple_n be_v but_o the_o knowledge_n of_o evil_a which_o we_o have_v all_o be_v better_o without_o yet_o she_o be_v draw_v to_o eat_v of_o the_o apple_n not_o only_o as_o persuade_v of_o its_o be_v pleasant_a to_o the_o taste_n but_o because_o it_o be_v desirable_a to_o make_v one_o wise_a and_o sure_o as_o our_o grandmother_n do_v eat_v those_o sour_a grape_n so_o we_o all_o her_o child_n have_v ever_o since_o have_v our_o tooth_n set_v on_o edge_n with_o the_o same_o desire_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o too_o too_o often_o out_o of_o a_o eager_a desire_n and_o affectation_n of_o knowledge_n we_o be_v apt_a upon_o the_o one_o hand_n for_o to_o five_o too_o high_a and_o to_o pry_v into_o those_o hide_a secret_n which_o god_n have_v not_o reveal_v or_o else_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n we_o be_v apt_a to_o stoop_v too_o low_o and_o to_o dive_v into_o nicety_n and_o vanity_n at_o least_o into_o the_o knowledge_n of_o such_o thing_n in_o which_o we_o be_v not_o concern_v but_o as_o the_o apostle_n do_v say_v i_o shall_v show_v you_o a_o more_o excellent_a way_n by_o declare_v how_o you_o may_v poise_v your_o desire_n of_o knowledge_n so_o as_o that_o you_o shall_v be_v neither_o too_o high_a nor_o too_o low_a in_o the_o pursuit_n thereof_o do_v not_o say_v therefore_o who_o shall_v ascend_v to_o bring_v down_o jesus_n christ_n from_o above_o and_o to_o reveal_v the_o knowledge_n of_o hide_a glory_n and_o unconceivable_a mystery_n neither_o say_v who_o shall_v descend_v to_o raise_v he_o up_o from_o beneath_o but_o remember_v the_o word_n the_o scripture_n be_v nigh_o even_o the_o gospel_n which_o we_o preach_v labour_v to_o know_v it_o and_o you_o shall_v know_v enough_o not_o only_o as_o to_o salvation_n but_o full_o and_o clear_o reveal_v in_o the_o gospel_n and_o by_o the_o study_n and_o the_o knowledge_n of_o it_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o he_o now_o of_o all_o knowledge_n the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n as_o it_o be_v most_o sacred_a so_o it_o be_v most_o satisfactory_a and_o of_o all_o thing_n in_o christ_n the_o knowledge_n of_o his_o love_n and_o as_o that_o be_v most_o satisfactory_a so_o it_o be_v most_o sweet_a it_o be_v this_o knowledge_n which_o the_o apostle_n here_o pray_v that_o the_o ephesian_n may_v obtain_v and_o by_o consequence_n that_o knowledge_n which_o all_o christian_n ought_v to_o desire_v and_o labour_n for_o it_o concern_v you_o not_o so_o much_o to_o know_v art_n and_o science_n though_o in_o themselves_o and_o their_o way_n they_o be_v necessary_a and_o of_o worth_n neither_o do_v it_o concein_o you_o at_o least_o so_o much_o to_o be_v acquaint_v with_o other_o truth_n of_o the_o scripture_n which_o in_o their_o place_n be_v very_o precious_a but_o this_o be_v that_o which_o do_v so_o main_o concern_v you_o viz._n that_o you_o know_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n pass_v knowledge_n our_o three_o point_n in_o order_n take_v up_o and_o to_o be_v speak_v to_o from_o these_o word_n be_v this_o that_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n of_o necessary_a concernment_n for_o every_o christian_n to_o know_v the_o transcendent_a love_n of_o jesus_n christ_n we_o have_v already_o endeavour_v to_o hold_v out_o at_o least_o a_o beam_n of_o light_n towards_o the_o discovery_n of_o that_o bosome-love_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n towards_o we_o shall_v know_v second_o i_o say_v it_o be_v of_o necessary_a concernment_n some_o knowledge_n may_v be_v of_o accidental_a concernment_n to_o be_v know_v which_o be_v not_o of_o necessary_a concernment_n some_o thing_n indeed_o as_o be_v accidental_a to_o some_o great_a truth_n and_o the_o discovery_n thereof_o be_v in_o that_o respect_n of_o concernment_n to_o be_v know_v and_o so_o may_v concern_v a_o man_n to_o endeavour_v for_o the_o knowledge_n thereof_o but_o now_o this_o knowledge_n have_v a_o necessity_n lay_v upon_o it_o and_o woe_n be_v to_o every_o soul_n that_o know_v not_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n three_o i_o add_v it_o be_v of_o necessary_a concernment_n for_o every_o christian_a some_o truth_n there_o be_v which_o albeit_o they_o may_v be_v of_o necessary_a concernment_n for_o some_o person_n who_o be_v as_o it_o be_v anoint_v with_o a_o high_o anoint_v and_o employ_v in_o a_o more_o special_a way_n as_o officer_n in_o the_o church_n etc._n etc._n may_v yet_o not_o be_v of_o such_o necessary_a concernment_n to_o all_o but_o now_o this_o knowledge_n whereof_o we_o be_v speak_v be_v of_o necessary_a concernment_n for_o every_o soul_n that_o be_v name_v by_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n and_o so_o pretend_v to_o be_v a_o christian_a but_o especial_o every_o soul_n that_o be_v unite_v to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o so_o be_v indeed_o a_o christian_a ought_v to_o labour_n for_o a_o solid_a knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n as_o the_o father_n in_o christ_n school_n be_v not_o above_o this_o knowledge_n so_o neither_o the_o babe_n and_o child_n in_o christ_n school_n be_v beneath_o it_o but_o all_o even_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o be_v bind_v and_o it_o lie_v upon_o they_o as_o that_o which_o do_v concern_v they_o very_o near_o and_o very_o necessary_a to_o know_v this_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n one_o word_n i_o shall_v only_o add_v by_o way_n of_o caution_n i_o do_v not_o speak_v neither_o will_v i_o have_v you_o understand_v i_o as_o if_o this_o be_v the_o only_a knowledge_n to_o be_v labour_v for_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o sovereign_n but_o not_o the_o sole_a knowledge_n which_o christian_n shall_v desire_v and_o endeavour_v to_o obtain_v in_o all_o that_o therefore_o i_o shall_v speak_v i_o desire_v to_o be_v understand_v not_o exclusive_o shut_v out_o other_o truth_n but_o as_o inclusive_o and_o eminent_o drive_v at_o this_o in_o a_o peculiar_a manner_n and_o as_o christ_n say_v with_o reference_n to_o do_v those_o thing_n you_o ought_v to_o have_v do_v that_o be_v especial_o and_o not_o leave_v the_o other_o undo_v i.e._n altogether_o neglect_v i_o say_v in_o like_a manner_n of_o know_v the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n you_o ought_v especial_o to_o labour_n for_o as_o a_o thing_n of_o more_o choice_n and_o special_a and_o necessary_a concernment_n but_o you_o be_v not_o altogether_o to_o neglect_v the_o knowledge_n of_o other_o gospell-truth_n as_o if_o they_o be_v of_o no_o necessity_n or_o of_o no_o necessary_a concernment_n at_o all_o for_o the_o proof_n i_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o add_v many_o place_n it_o be_v so_o full_o lay_v down_o in_o this_o certain_o this_o wise_a apostle_n paul_n will_v never_o have_v so_o earnest_o and_o particular_o beg_v of_o god_n that_o the_o ephesian_n may_v know_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n if_o it_o be_v not_o of_o special_a and_o necessary_a concernment_n for_o they_o i_o shall_v only_o add_v to_o this_o his_o desire_n for_o the_o ephesian_n that_o determination_n of_o he_o for_o himself_o which_o he_o express_v to_o the_o corinthian_n i_o be_o determine_v say_v he_o not_o to_o know_v any_o thing_n among_o you_o save_v jesus_n christ_n and_o he_o crucify_v now_o the_o knowledge_n of_o jesus_n christ_n crucify_v as_o i_o hint_v once_o before_o be_v the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o love_n though_o the_o whole_a life_n of_o jesus_n christ_n be_v but_o as_o it_o have_v be_v show_v like_o one_o great_a sermon_n of_o love_n yet_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n be_v as_o it_o be_v a_o long_o and_o clear_a sermon_n of_o love_n than_o all_o his_o life_n be_v never_o do_v christ_n speak_v love_n more_o full_o and_o more_o free_o than_o when_o he_o be_v as_o it_o be_v in_o that_o pulpit_n the_o cross_n now_o then_o if_o certain_o necessary_a concernment_n to_o know_v christ_n love_n in_o as_o much_o as_o without_o the_o one_o he_o can_v enjoy_v the_o other_o i_o live_v say_v paul_n but_o how_o by_o the_o faith_n now_o faith_n be_v but_o a_o high_a degree_n of_o knowledge_n
of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n who_o love_v i_o as_o moses_n press_v the_o israelite_n to_o the_o sincere_a keep_n of_o the_o law_n for_o it_o be_v say_v he_o your_o as_o it_o be_v and_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n love_n be_v so_o advantageous_a to_o this_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o thing_n of_o special_a concernment_n for_o every_o christian_a to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n be_v thus_o necessary_a yet_o first_o that_o this_o knowledge_n have_v be_v little_o study_v second_o though_o it_o shall_v be_v much_o study_v yet_o gain_v we_o may_v weep_v to_o think_v how_o little_a of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n it_o be_v that_o those_o who_o have_v most_o knowledge_n of_o it_o do_v or_o can_v know_v we_o read_v of_o a_o book_n which_o be_v seal_v and_o john_n weep_v much_o say_v the_o text_n because_o no_o man_n be_v find_v worthy_a in_o heaven_n or_o in_o earth_n that_o be_v able_a to_o open_v the_o book_n or_o to_o look_v thereon_o belove_a the_o heart_n of_o christ_n may_v be_v compare_v to_o a_o glorious_a book_n in_o which_o the_o mysterious_a history_n of_o his_o transcendent_a love_n be_v write_v but_o alas_o who_o be_v there_o not_o only_o in_o earth_n but_o in_o heaven_n that_o be_v able_a to_o open_v this_o book_n and_o to_o discover_v the_o mystery_n thereof_o belove_a when_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o heaven_n we_o shall_v then_o be_v in_o a_o capacity_n of_o more_o perfect_a knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n but_o alas_o even_o than_o we_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o comprehend_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o perfection_n thereof_o that_o be_v so_o full_o as_o it_o may_v be_v know_v then_o indeed_o we_o shall_v apprehend_v it_o in_o the_o perfection_n of_o our_o knowledge_n i.e._n so_o far_o as_o it_o can_v be_v know_v by_o the_o finite_a knowledge_n of_o creature_n but_o yet_o then_o we_o shall_v not_o know_v it_o so_o full_a as_o it_o be_v the_o schoolman_n speak_v of_o knowledge_n as_o they_o do_v of_o see_v objecti_fw-la duplex_fw-la plenitudo_fw-la scientioe_fw-la &_o visionis_fw-la viz_o plenitudo_fw-la 1_o subjecti_fw-la 2_o objecti_fw-la there_o be_v a_o twofold_a fullness_n of_o knowledge_n first_o a_o fullness_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o object_n i.e._n such_o a_o fullness_n as_o regard_v the_o thing_n itself_o second_o a_o fullness_n of_o knowledge_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o subject_n in_o which_o it_o be_v now_o for_o my_o own_o part_n i_o incline_v at_o least_o for_o present_a to_o conclude_v that_o although_o without_o doubt_n there_o shall_v be_v a_o fullness_n of_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n in_o respect_n of_o our_o knowledge_n i.e._n according_a to_o the_o utmost_a bound_n or_o extent_n which_o our_o knowledge_n when_o it_o be_v perfect_v to_o the_o high_a be_v capable_a of_o yet_o notwithstanding_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o fullness_n of_o knowledge_n as_o it_o relate_v to_o the_o thing_n itself_o viz._n the_o love_n of_o christ_n quoad_fw-la essentiam_fw-la &_o virtutem_fw-la intensivam_fw-la &_o extensivam_fw-la i.e._n when_o it_o be_v consider_v so_o far_o forth_o as_o it_o may_v be_v have_v unto_o all_o the_o effect_n and_o purpose_n whereunto_o that_o knowledge_n do_v extend_v itself_o this_o i_o say_v i_o think_v we_o shall_v not_o have_v but_o to_o all_o eternity_n we_o shall_v be_v admire_v and_o adore_v of_o this_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n wherefore_o then_o we_o must_v needs_o lament_v to_o consider_v that_o although_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n be_v of_o such_o necessary_a concernment_n yet_o it_o have_v be_v but_o little_o search_v after_o by_o many_o and_o when_o we_o shall_v make_v the_o great_a search_n after_o it_o we_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a full_o to_o attain_v it_o use_v second_o it_o may_v be_v a_o use_n of_o reproof_n unto_o those_o who_o neglect_v this_o study_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n altogether_o many_o there_o be_v who_o be_v little_a in_o the_o study_n of_o the_o bible_n less_o in_o the_o study_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o least_o of_o all_o in_o this_o which_o be_v the_o light_n and_o lustre_n and_o glory_n of_o all_o the_o gospel_n the_o love_n of_o christ_n to_o believer_n and_o i_o can_v choose_v but_o think_v those_o blame-worthy_a and_o to_o be_v reprove_v who_o in_o these_o time_n speak_v much_o of_o their_o part_n and_o ability_n in_o the_o beat_n out_o of_o some_o truth_n mere_o controversall_a which_o yet_o i_o speak_v not_o against_o in_o its_o place_n and_o yet_o neglect_v this_o knowledge_n which_o be_v of_o such_o necessary_a concernment_n i_o do_v not_o altogether_o blame_v those_o who_o study_v this_o headship_n of_o christ_n i_o mean_v this_o government_n it_o be_v i_o think_v this_o present_a truth_n which_o be_v most_o controvert_v in_o these_o time_n yet_o notwithstanding_o to_o study_v so_o far_o the_o head_n of_o christ_n as_o to_o neglect_v his_o heart_n so_o far_o to_o mind_v his_o government_n as_o to_o neglect_v his_o love_n be_v without_o doubt_n a_o thing_n to_o be_v reprove_v but_o much_o more_o be_v those_o to_o be_v reprove_v who_o study_v neither_o the_o one_o nor_o the_o other_o but_o spend_v all_o their_o time_n their_o pain_n and_o their_o part_n in_o controversy_n and_o nicety_n pry_v either_o into_o unrevealed_a position_n or_o be_v busy_v about_o needless_a question_n neglect_v in_o the_o mean_a time_n this_o one_o necessary_a thing_n viz._n the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n how_o many_o be_v there_o that_o may_v as_o one_o say_v of_o the_o schoolman_n be_v like_a unto_o traveller_n or_o man_n in_o a_o journey_n who_o have_v good_a bread_n about_o they_o but_o go_v gnaw_v and_o bite_v upon_o hard_a stone_n so_o indeed_o some_o man_n who_o have_v at_o least_o mean_n to_o have_v the_o bread_n of_o life_n christ_n love_n but_o they_o neglect_v it_o and_o spend_v their_o time_n in_o gnaw_v upon_o hard_a trivial_o at_o least_o not_o useful_a question_n be_v reprove_v o_o all_o you_o who_o so_o far_o spend_v yourselves_o about_o the_o obtain_n of_o any_o knowledge_n when_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n you_o do_v neglect_v the_o study_n of_o this_o knowledge_n the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o be_v of_o necessary_a concernment_n last_o we_o shall_v add_v a_o word_n of_o exhortation_n to_o stir_v up_o all_o to_o the_o study_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n you_o who_o have_v spend_v or_o rather_o misspend_v many_o a_o precious_a hour_n in_o read_v of_o romanse_v and_o fond_a history_n of_o feign_a love_n yea_o you_o who_o spend_v all_o your_o time_n though_o it_o be_v about_o some_o matter_n of_o concernment_n but_o neglect_v this_o be_v stir_v up_o now_o to_o lay_v out_o yourselves_o in_o the_o study_n of_o that_o which_o be_v sweet_a and_o necessary_a viz._n the_o study_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n you_o must_v conceive_v that_o as_o i_o hint_v in_o the_o explication_n my_o desire_n be_v that_o you_o will_v labour_v to_o be_v well_o verse_v and_o to_o be_v exact_a student_n in_o this_o business_n i_o will_v not_o have_v you_o content_v your_o self_n in_o some_o general_n but_o labour_v to_o make_v a_o particular_a discovery_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n in_o its_o substance_n in_o its_o circumstance_n and_o in_o its_o sundry_a action_n and_o declaration_n o_o remember_v that_o this_o knowledge_n include_v in_o it_o all_o that_o knowledge_n which_o be_v necessary_a to_o be_v know_v for_o salvation_n when_o you_o have_v study_v it_o well_o you_o shall_v find_v that_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o whole_a doctrine_n of_o salvation_n which_o be_v not_o comprehend_v in_o this_o love_n of_o christ_n as_o calvin_n have_v well_o observe_v upon_o the_o place_n this_o knowledge_n be_v both_o safe_a and_o sweet_a it_o be_v not_o such_o knowledge_n as_o will_v puff_n up_o the_o head_n but_o it_o will_v purify_v the_o heart_n i_o do_v not_o doubt_v that_o any_o can_v grow_v wanton_a who_o attain_v to_o any_o spiritual_a save_a degree_n of_o this_o knowledge_n the_o love_n of_o christ_n will_v constrain_v to_o duty_n and_o restrain_v from_o sin_n therefore_o betake_v yourselves_o to_o
as_o the_o last_o thing_n observe_v from_o these_o word_n viz._n to_o let_v you_o see_v how_o efficacious_a the_o love_n of_o christ_n be_v unto_o the_o support_a of_o believer_n in_o any_o tribulation_n sermon_n vi._n ephes._n 3_o ver._n 19_o and_o to_o know_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n he_o that_o be_v but_o little_o skill_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o face_n of_o time_n may_v very_o well_o see_v that_o these_o time_n wherein_o we_o live_v be_v very_o sad_a calamity_n lie_v upon_o every_o creature_n and_o woe_n have_v as_o it_o be_v enter_v upon_o the_o stage_n of_o the_o world_n and_o act_n a_o very_a bloody_a part_n to_o the_o terror_n of_o all_o even_o believer_n themselves_o some_o put_v on_o black_a and_o walk_v disconsolate_o yea_o almost_o all_o the_o son_n of_o man_n be_v clad_v in_o mourning_n as_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o misery_n under_o which_o most_o of_o the_o world_n at_o this_o day_n groan_v in_o these_o time_n therefore_o what_o can_v be_v more_o suitable_a to_o our_o thought_n than_o to_o consider_v of_o that_o which_o may_v serve_v to_o support_v our_o spirit_n it_o be_v the_o wisdom_n of_o such_o as_o be_v weak_a and_o liable_a to_o faint_n to_o carry_v about_o they_o some_o cordial_a or_o other_o to_o revive_v they_o and_o it_o shall_v be_v doubtless_o the_o wisdom_n of_o believer_n who_o be_v liable_a always_o to_o tribulation_n to_o lay_v in_o something_o which_o may_v keep_v they_o from_o faint_v under_o these_o tribulation_n indeed_o our_o lord_n jesus_n out_o of_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o mercy_n have_v prepare_v and_o provide_v rich_a and_o glorious_a cordial_n to_o support_v the_o soul_n of_o he_o and_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n especial_o who_o be_v the_o minister_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n to_o help_v believer_n with_o these_o cordial_n which_o our_o lord_n and_o their_o lord_n have_v prepare_v and_o therefore_o while_o other_o forget_v not_o only_o the_o saint_n but_o themselves_o take_v leave_n to_o press_v and_o urge_v great_a thing_n as_o matter_n of_o faith_n upon_o poor_a soul_n as_o if_o they_o have_v dominion_n over_o their_o faith_n i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o imitate_v the_o great_a apostle_n paul_n rather_o to_o show_v my_o self_n a_o helper_n of_o your_o joy_n ult_n 2_o cor._n 1._o ult_n than_o a_o lord_n of_o your_o faith_n it_o be_v this_o indeed_o which_o paul_n be_v much_o upon_o viz._n the_o furtherance_n of_o the_o joy_n and_o comfort_n of_o believer_n and_o it_o be_v this_o which_o he_o drive_v at_o in_o these_o word_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o the_o ephesian_n for_o fear_v lest_o the_o news_n of_o these_o trouble_n in_o which_o he_o be_v shall_v so_o far_o trouble_v the_o ephesian_n as_o to_o make_v they_o faint_a he_o therefore_o bow_v his_o knee_n to_o the_o father_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n that_o he_o will_v be_v please_v to_o give_v they_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n that_o so_o by_o it_o their_o spirit_n may_v be_v keep_v from_o faint_a either_o at_o the_o news_n of_o he_o or_o fear_v of_o their_o own_o tribulation_n this_o be_v therefore_o the_o end_n why_o paul_n pray_v to_o god_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o the_o ephesian_n that_o they_o may_v know_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n i_o do_v observe_v this_o doctrine_n from_o it_o viz._n that_o the_o spiritual_a knowledge_n of_o the_o transcendency_n of_o christ_n love_n towards_o he_o be_v of_o special_a efficacy_n to_o keep_v our_o heart_n from_o faint_v under_o any_o trouble_n i_o suppose_v you_o easy_o see_v both_o the_o foundation_n and_o the_o proof_n of_o this_o point_n in_o this_o place_n yet_o that_o you_o may_v see_v both_o the_o clear_a let_v i_o hint_n these_o three_o thing_n first_o consider_v it_o that_o the_o apostle_n suppose_v that_o the_o ephesiant_a heart_n be_v apt_a to_o faint_v at_o their_o tribulation_n at_o the_o 13_o verse_n his_o desire_n that_o they_o may_v not_o faint_v do_v clear_o intimate_v this_o that_o they_o be_v apt_a to_o faint_v indeed_o the_o child_n of_o faith_n be_v not_o only_o prone_a to_o fear_v but_o be_v apt_a to_o faint_v in_o those_o fear_n second_o observe_v how_o upon_o this_o fear_n of_o the_o apostle_n lest_o they_o may_v faint_v or_o if_o you_o will_v upon_o his_o desire_n that_o they_o may_v not_o faint_v he_o fall_v to_o prayer_n and_o make_v it_o his_o request_n to_o god_n who_o alone_a royalty_n be_v to_o support_v the_o faint_a spirit_n of_o all_o the_o creature_n that_o be_v will_v be_v please_v to_o keep_v they_o from_o faint_v for_o say_v he_o for_o this_o cause_n i_o how_o my_o knee_n to_o the_o father_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n that_o be_v upon_o this_o desire_n of_o i_o that_o you_o may_v not_o faint_a i_o bow_v my_o knee_n to_o he_o who_o alone_o be_v able_a to_o support_v your_o spirit_n three_o consider_v that_o among_o the_o rest_n of_o those_o thing_n which_o he_o pray_v to_o god_n for_o in_o their_o behalf_n that_o they_o may_v not_o faint_v he_o pray_v for_o this_o in_o the_o text_n as_o in_o the_o last_o place_n that_o they_o may_v know_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n and_o indeed_o the_o very_a spirit_n and_o strength_n of_o all_o that_o which_o the_o apostle_n have_v pray_v for_o in_o the_o former_a verse_n in_o their_o behalf_n lie_v in_o this_o last_o and_o happy_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o he_o bring_v in_o this_o as_o the_o last_o particular_a be_v as_o it_o be_v that_o last_o cordial_a which_o he_o pray_v for_o in_o their_o behalf_n and_o if_o it_o have_v fail_v he_o know_v not_o as_o it_o be_v what_o to_o ask_v of_o god_n for_o they_o this_o be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o last_o dosis_n of_o the_o doctor_n which_o if_o it_o help_v not_o the_o patient_a the_o doctor_n be_v at_o a_o stand_n and_o be_v puzzle_v and_o know_v not_o what_o else_o to_o give_v so_o that_o i_o suppose_v you_o may_v easy_o see_v not_o only_o the_o foot_n that_o this_o text_n afford_v for_o this_o truth_n but_o also_o a_o great_a and_o solid_a proof_n of_o the_o truth_n thereof_o in_o it_o and_o yet_o that_o you_o may_v see_v this_o truth_n more_o clear_o from_o this_o place_n i_o will_v in_o a_o word_n show_v you_o how_o that_o the_o very_a spirit_n and_o strength_n of_o the_o other_o cordial_n which_o he_o here_o pray_v for_o be_v as_o it_o be_v wrap_v up_o in_o this_o viz._n the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n for_o consider_v first_o he_o pray_v that_o they_o may_v be_v strengthen_v in_o the_o inward_a man_n by_o his_o spirit_n verse_n 16._o now_o what_o be_v that_o strength_n of_o the_o inward_a man_n by_o the_o spirit_n but_o that_o divine_a and_o spiritual_a joy_n which_o be_v through_o he_o the_o joy_n
