christ_n shall_v first_o die_v for_o peter_n health_n and_o that_o peter_n afterward_o shall_v suffer_v death_n for_o his_o name_n sake_n the_o presumption_n and_o headiness_n of_o man_n will_v have_v set_v the_o cart_n before_o the_o horse_n but_o the_o everlasting_a truth_n have_v appoint_v this_o order_n peter_n think_v he_o will_v have_v ieoperd_v his_o life_n for_o christ_n &_o have_v redeem_v the_o redeemer_n but_o christ_n come_v to_o give_v his_o life_n for_o his_o sheep_n of_o who_o peter_n be_v one_o now_o after_o that_o christ_n die_v for_o those_o that_o be_v he_o there_o be_v strength_n give_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o such_o shepherd_n and_o sheep_n as_o be_v faithful_a to_o suffer_v death_n for_o christ_n sake_n death_n be_v not_o now_o so_o to_o be_v fear_v of_o we_o that_o we_o will_v therefore_o go_v back_o from_o the_o truth_n for_o by_o death_n do_v not_o we_o lose_v life_n yea_o christ_n have_v make_v death_n to_o be_v the_o way_n unto_o life_n and_o by_o his_o resurrection_n he_o have_v set_v forth_o unto_o we_o a_o example_n of_o another_o life_n which_o be_v immortal_a peter_n be_v first_o afraid_a and_o fear_a death_n and_o will_v have_v dissuade_v christ_n that_o he_o shall_v not_o die_v 16._o but_o now_o that_o the_o precious_a treasure_n of_o christ_n blood_n be_v shed_v he_o follow_v his_o redeemer_n yea_o even_o unto_o the_o death_n of_o the_o cross_n go_v he_o after_o he_o therefore_o be_v he_o now_o no_o more_o a_o satan_n but_o a_o peter_n rock_n but_o from_o whence_o come_v such_o strength_n into_o a_o feeble_a man_n even_o from_o god_n who_o dwell_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o faithful_a for_o else_o be_v the_o nature_n and_o flesh_n of_o man_n impotent_a and_o weak_a be_v afraid_a of_o death_n which_o fear_n natural_a heat_n be_v abate_v be_v the_o great_a in_o they_o that_o be_v old_a and_o though_o we_o all_o wish_v to_o to_o be_v with_o christ_n and_o be_v desirous_a of_o eternal_a life_n yet_o will_v we_o fain_o have_v it_o without_o any_o grief_n of_o death_n if_o it_o may_v be_v thus_o come_v the_o conflict_n of_o death_n even_o upon_o christ_n whereby_o he_o declare_v himself_o very_a man_n but_o the_o will_n of_o god_n have_v the_o mastery_n above_o man_v in_o the_o wrestle_a peter_n also_o go_v not_o with_o his_o will_n to_o death_n but_o with_o his_o will_n he_o both_o suffer_v it_o and_o overcome_v it_o christ_n likewise_o to_o comfort_v we_o be_v heavy_a who_o nevertheless_o come_v upon_o earth_n that_o he_o will_v die_v neither_o be_v it_o necessity_n that_o move_v he_o to_o die_v 10_o but_o his_o own_o good_a will_n and_o love_n for_o he_o have_v power_n to_o give_v his_o soul_n and_o take_v it_o again_o now_o though_o the_o fear_n of_o death_n be_v great_a in_o nature_n yet_o be_v it_o overcome_v through_o the_o strength_n and_o greatness_n of_o the_o love_n 5._o which_o we_o bear_v unto_o he_o who_o be_v our_o life_n even_o jesus_n christ_n and_o albeit_o he_o be_v the_o life_n itself_o yet_o please_v it_o he_o to_o suffer_v death_n for_o us._n see_v then_o that_o he_o alone_o die_v for_o we_o we_o ought_v not_o to_o be_v ashamed_a neither_o shall_v it_o grieve_v we_o to_o die_v also_o for_o he_o special_o consider_v that_o the_o publish_n of_o so_o excellent_a grace_n be_v commit_v unto_o us._n when_o the_o shepherd_n die_v for_o the_o sheep_n it_o be_v no_o great_a matter_n if_o the_o sheep_n die_v for_o the_o shepherd_n sake_n forasmuch_o now_o as_o the_o faithful_a shepherd_n with_o his_o love_n direct_v and_o encourage_v many_o of_o the_o sheep_n to_o die_v for_o his_o name_n sake_n how_o much_o more_o meet_a be_v it_o that_o the_o shepherd_n be_v the_o first_o which_o jeopardy_v their_o life_n strive_v for_o the_o truth_n and_o even_o unto_o blood_n to_o resist_v sin_n when_o christ_n have_v put_v they_o in_o trust_n to_o feed_v his_o sheep_n this_o be_v now_o the_o occasion_n why_o our_o saviour_n christ_n tell_v peter_n of_o his_o death_n afore_o hand_n and_o strengthen_v and_o incourage_v he_o thereunto_o for_o though_o the_o will_v be_v constant_a in_o the_o saint_n yet_o be_v the_o flesh_n feeble_a and_o weak_a 26._o no_o man_n die_v without_o pain_n and_o grief_n which_o thing_n be_v appoint_v unto_o we_o by_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n to_o the_o intent_n no_o man_n shall_v kill_v himself_o for_o see_v the_o devil_n do_v now_o and_o then_o persuade_v some_o to_o murder_v themselves_o how_o shall_v it_o go_v if_o the_o soul_n be_v not_o so_o loath_a to_o depart_v from_o the_o body_n with_o these_o word_n therefore_o think_v nor_o christ_n to_o make_v peter_n afraid_a or_o to_o discourage_v he_o but_o to_o furnish_v he_o and_o make_v he_o ripe_a for_o peter_n have_v a_o good_a desire_n to_o suffer_v somewhat_o for_o christ_n sake_n nevertheless_o be_v yet_o young_a he_o can_v not_o follow_v but_o when_o he_o be_v old_a he_o follow_v he_o therefore_o will_v christ_n perform_v his_o desire_n as_o if_o christ_n will_v say_v peter_n thou_o have_v hitheto_o be_v weak_a &_o fearful_a but_o i_o will_v strengthen_v thou_o so_o that_o hence_o forth_o thou_o shall_v deny_v i_o no_o more_o but_o manful_o die_v for_o i_o thou_o have_v be_v tender_a in_o that_o thou_o be_v afraid_a at_o one_o woman_n voice_n but_o now_o shall_v thou_o stretch_v forth_o thy_o hand_n to_o the_o cross_n to_o be_v bind_v for_o by_o the_o stretch_n out_o of_o the_o hand_n he_o understand_v and_o signify_v with_o what_o death_n he_o shall_v die_v namely_o upon_o the_o cross_n which_o death_n afore_o time_n be_v most_o shameful_a but_o after_o that_o christ_n be_v hang_v upon_o the_o cross_n it_o be_v now_o a_o honourable_a and_o glorious_a death_n with_o the_o which_o the_o faithful_a do_v glorify_v god_n and_o therefore_o say_v the_o evangelist_n that_o the_o lord_n will_v thereby_o signify_v with_o what_o death_n peter_n shall_v glorify_v god_n for_o in_o god_n quarrel_n and_o for_o christ_n sake_n to_o die_v be_v the_o high_a honour_n whereof_o no_o man_n ought_v to_o be_v ashamed_a this_o aught_o all_o soul_n shepherd_n to_o ponder_v and_o consider_v that_o they_o faithful_o and_o constant_o follow_v christ_n the_o lord_n 4._o go_v not_o from_o that_o they_o have_v take_v in_o hand_n but_o proceed_v and_o bring_v their_o course_n to_o a_o honourable_a end_n keep_v fidelity_n and_o trust_n with_o their_o lord_n and_o be_v full_o appoint_v in_o themselves_o to_o die_v for_o the_o sheep_n of_o christ_n therefore_o shall_v they_o consider_v afore_o hand_n what_o thing_n they_o must_v suffer_v for_o the_o truth_n lest_o they_o destroy_v that_o which_o they_o have_v of_o long_a time_n build_v and_o teach_v o_o gracious_a father_n strengthen_v thou_o we_o in_o thy_o work_n and_o in_o thy_o truth_n that_o in_o the_o thing_n which_o thou_o have_v begin_v in_o we_o we_o may_v steadfast_o continue_v to_o the_o end_n expel_v out_o of_o we_o the_o fear_n of_o death_n &_o establish_v we_o through_o thy_o holy_a spirit_n that_o we_o manful_o may_v despise_v &_o jeopard_v this_o life_n for_o the_o life_n eternal_a grant_v o_o god_n to_o the_o shepherd_n of_o thy_o sheep_n a_o fervent_a love_n to_o the_o truth_n and_o thy_o glory_n strengthen_v they_o with_o thy_o spirit_n that_o they_o valiant_o stand_v by_o the_o flock_n may_v even_o with_o their_o death_n confirm_v thy_o people_n in_o the_o truth_n peter_n turn_v about_o and_o see_v the_o disciple_n who_o jesus_n love_v follow_v which_o also_o lean_v on_o his_o breast_n at_o supper_n &_o say_v lord_n who_o be_v he_o that_o betray_v thou_o when_o peter_n therefore_o see_v he_o he_o say_v to_o jesus_n lord_n what_o shall_v he_o here_o do_v jesus_n say_v unto_o he_o if_o i_o will_v have_v he_o to_o tarry_v till_o i_o come_v what_o be_v that_o to_o thou_o follow_v thou_o i_o then_o go_v this_o say_n abroad_o among_o the_o brethren_n that_o that_o disciple_n shall_v not_o die_v yet_o jesus_n say_v not_o to_o he_o he_o shall_v not_o die_v but_o if_o i_o will_v that_o he_o tarry_v till_o i_o come_v what_o be_v that_o to_o thou_o the_o same_o disciple_n be_v he_o which_o
testify_v of_o these_o thing_n &_o write_v these_o thing_n and_o we_o know_v that_o his_o testimony_n be_v true_a there_o be_v also_o many_o other_o thing_n that_o jesus_n do_v which_o if_o they_o shall_v be_v waitten_v every_o one_o i_o suppose_v the_o world_n can_v not_o contain_v the_o book_n that_o shall_v be_v write_v doctrine_n and_o fruit_n the_o former_a word_n which_o christ_n speak_v unto_o peter_n follow_v i_o be_v speak_v unto_o he_o in_o this_o meaning_n that_o he_o shall_v follow_v the_o footstep_n and_o passion_n of_o christ_n namely_o with_o word_n and_o deed_n to_o go_v the_o way_n that_o christ_n have_v go_v but_o in_o much_o as_o peter_n be_v a_o figure_n of_o the_o church_n christ_n speak_v those_o word_n not_o only_o unto_o he_o but_o unto_o all_o faithful_a believer_n for_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n while_o she_o dwell_v here_o temporal_o in_o many_o trouble_n and_o affliction_n she_o follow_v christ_n her_o spouse_n and_o head_n who_o also_o deliver_v she_o from_o all_o adversity_n she_o love_v christ_n and_o in_o the_o behalf_n of_o his_o truth_n she_o strive_v until_o the_o death_n for_o see_v christ_n die_v for_o all_o it_o be_v meet_v that_o they_o which_o be_v his_o do_v follow_v his_o footstep_n to_o follow_v christ_n be_v nothing_o else_o than_o stout_o to_o suffer_v and_o overcome_v despite_n and_o poverty_n in_o this_o world_n for_o his_o sake_n and_o god_n true_o even_o in_o his_o wrath_n which_o we_o with_o our_o sin_n deserve_v can_v forget_v his_o mercy_n over_o and_o beside_o the_o manifold_a comfort_n and_o help_v which_o he_o otherwise_o declare_v unto_o we_o he_o have_v give_v we_o his_o own_o son_n to_o be_v our_o mediator_n by_o who_o if_o we_o put_v our_o trust_n in_o he_o we_o shall_v be_v save_v &_o deliver_v from_o eternal_a death_n that_o we_o live_v from_o hence_o forth_o still_o in_o faith_n hope_n and_o charitable_a love_n as_o pilgrim_n in_o this_o world_n and_o be_v in_o all_o trouble_n &_o adversity_n preserve_v by_o the_o corporal_a and_o spiritual_a comfort_n of_o god_n may_v walk_v innocent_o before_o his_o sight_n in_o he_o who_o be_v become_v our_o way_n unto_o god_n it_o be_v no_o vile_a thing_n to_o suffer_v &_o to_o be_v put_v to_o death_n for_o christ_n and_o his_o truth_n sake_n yea_o a_o man_n can_v die_v a_o more_o honourable_a death_n than_o when_o for_o the_o truth_n innocent_o he_o suffer_v with_o a_o good_a conscience_n and_o with_o a_o upright_o mind_n no_o man_n in_o deed_n ought_v to_o put_v himself_o in_o danger_n arrogant_o wilful_o or_o for_o vainglory_n whereas_o peter_n ask_v a_o question_n concern_v the_o disciple_n who_o the_o lord_n love_v what_o he_o shall_v do_v it_o be_v a_o niceness_n and_o unprofitable_a curiosity_n that_o serve_v nothing_o to_o edification_n and_o therefore_o it_o please_v not_o the_o lord_n whatsoever_o edifi_v not_o that_o ought_v not_o we_o to_o desire_v of_o christ_n let_v every_o man_n look_v to_o himself_o wait_v upon_o his_o own_o business_n and_o office_n and_o not_o to_o be_v curious_a in_o another_o man_n matter_n whatsoever_o be_v not_o commit_v unto_o his_o charge_n and_o belong_v not_o unto_o he_o let_v he_o not_o meddle_v withal_o peter_n love_v christ_n so_o do_v he_o they_o also_o therefore_o ask_v he_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o he_o and_o whether_o he_o shall_v remain_v still_o ot_fw-mi thy_fw-mi for_o he_o be_v very_o loath_a and_o unwilling_a to_o depart_v from_o he_o and_o so_o he_o pass_v more_o upon_o john_n than_o upon_o the_o precept_n and_o commission_n of_o jesus_n christ_n such_o curious_a back_n look_v do_v the_o lord_n rebuke_n we_o many_o and_o sundry_a time_n do_v regard_n and_o esteem_v more_o the_o thing_n that_o we_o love_v than_o that_o which_o god_n command_v and_o bid_v us._n but_o such_o love_n be_v very_o hurtful_a and_o especial_o in_o those_o that_o shall_v be_v soul_n shepherd_n christ_n will_n be_v that_o they_o have_v respect_n to_o his_o work_n and_o commandment_n and_o with_o a_o fervent_a love_n to_o perform_v the_o same_o not_o meddle_v with_o other_o business_n not_o needful_a to_o inquire_v curious_o of_o other_o man_n matter_n bring_v not_o always_o profit_n but_o much_o rather_o unquietnes_n therefore_o christ_n remove_v peter_n from_o such_o curious_a question_n draw_v his_o mind_n unto_o a_o better_a thing_n namely_o to_o follow_v he_o as_o for_o that_o which_o he_o desire_v to_o know_v christ_n tell_v he_o that_o it_o be_v no_o point_n of_o his_o charge_n as_o if_o christ_n will_v say_v what_o have_v thou_o to_o do_v with_o other_o folk_n business_n thou_o have_v hear_v what_o i_o have_v command_v thou_o look_v that_o thou_o faithful_o do_v the_o same_o what_o inquire_v thou_o after_o other_o man_n matter_n thus_o look_v diligent_o and_o faithful_o to_o our_o own_o charge_n and_o expel_v the_o affection_n of_o the_o flesh_n we_o shall_v neither_o desire_v curious_o to_o ask_v any_o thing_n beyond_o the_o will_n of_o god_n neither_o to_o look_v upon_o any_o other_o man_n but_o upright_o to_o follow_v the_o lord_n here_o also_o we_o learn_v that_o in_o the_o commission_n and_o final_a departure_n of_o the_o faithful_a there_o be_v manifold_a difference_n some_o rest_n in_o the_o lord_n bless_o without_o any_o special_a heavy_a affliction_n but_o some_o it_o please_v god_n to_o bring_v through_o sore_a travail_n and_o exceed_a trouble_n lay_v the_o great_a burden_n upon_o he_o according_a as_o it_o be_v tell_v peter_n afore_o hand_n that_o he_o shall_v be_v crucify_v but_o not_o john_n they_o now_o that_o be_v admit_v to_o feed_v christ_n his_o sheep_n prepare_v themselves_o and_o be_v always_o ready_a without_o any_o curiosity_n to_o follow_v the_o will_n of_o god_n whereas_o john_n in_o the_o conclusion_n of_o his_o book_n refute_v the_o erroneous_a opinion_n of_o some_o it_o be_v a_o evidence_n of_o his_o meekness_n and_o sincerity_n it_o be_v not_o so_o speak_v of_o the_o lord_n say_v he_o that_o the_o same_o disciple_n shall_v not_o die_v whereby_o john_n confess_v that_o he_o himself_o also_o be_v mortal_a his_o writing_n will_v he_o have_v credit_v for_o he_o have_v write_v nothing_o save_o only_a the_o truth_n whereof_o he_o may_v well_o testify_v that_o which_o he_o have_v see_v yet_o say_v he_o have_v not_o write_v all_o but_o only_o that_o whereby_o we_o may_v obtain_v eternal_a life_n as_o we_o have_v hear_v sufficient_o afore_o the_o eleven_o disciple_n go_v away_o into_o galilee_n 28._o into_o a_o mountain_n whereas_o jesus_n three_o day_n and_o that_o repentance_n and_o remission_n of_o sin_n shall_v be_v preach_v in_o his_o name_n among_o all_o nation_n and_o must_v begin_v at_o jerusalem_n and_o you_o be_v witness_n of_o these_o thing_n and_o behold_v i_o will_v send_v the_o promise_n of_o my_o father_n upon_o you_o but_o tarry_v you_o in_o the_o city_n of_o jerusalem_n till_o you_o be_v endue_v with_o power_n declare_v out_o of_o the_o scripture_n and_o print_v it_o in_o their_o heart_n he_o teach_v they_o that_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o christ_n shall_v suffer_v and_o die_v yea_o even_o thus_o to_o die_v namely_o upon_o a_o cross_n upon_o a_o tree_n on_o the_o tree_n be_v the_o transgression_n commit_v upon_o the_o tree_n behoove_v it_o the_o restitution_n to_o be_v make_v upon_o the_o tree_n be_v death_n fetch_v upon_o the_o tree_n be_v life_n give_v upon_o the_o tree_n must_v satisfaction_n be_v make_v for_o the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n which_o on_o the_o tree_n be_v first_o conceive_v and_o will_v god_n that_o we_o right_o know_v the_o passion_n and_o cross_n of_o our_o lord_n jesu_n christ_n then_o shall_v the_o glory_n of_o the_o resurrection_n be_v well_o know_v and_o love_v of_o us._n o_o jesu_n grant_v we_o grace_v right_a to_o consider_v what_o wherefore_o and_o with_o what_o love_n and_o feruentnes_n thou_o have_v suffer_v for_o we_o then_o shall_v our_o heart_n feel_v &_o profitable_o enjoy_v the_o sweet_a fruit_n of_o thy_o
office_n or_o that_o we_o shall_v delight_v in_o their_o evil_n but_o to_o the_o intent_n that_o malicious_a judgement_n may_v be_v avoid_v &_o that_o there_o be_v no_o villainy_n do_v to_o the_o anoint_a of_o the_o lord_n more_o respect_n and_o regard_n shall_v we_o have_v to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n that_o they_o bring_v unto_o we_o than_o to_o their_o live_n and_o â—aults_n more_o to_o the_o giver_n than_o to_o the_o minister_n it_o be_v not_o thâ—y_v that_o work_n but_o god_n work_v through_o his_o own_o power_n he_o can_v fail_v we_o in_o his_o promise_n the_o minister_n dare_v his_o hand_n and_o mouth_n but_o the_o holy_a ghost_n work_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o believer_n neither_o can_v the_o wickedness_n of_o the_o priest_n diminish_v or_o hinder_v that_o operation_n if_o we_o ourselves_o have_v pure_a clean_a and_o faithful_a believe_v mind_n it_o be_v not_o the_o uncleanness_n of_o the_o minister_n that_o can_v either_o defile_v or_o hurt_v us._n this_o be_v now_o the_o story_n of_o the_o resurrection_n of_o christ_n wherein_o we_o see_v how_o the_o goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n wondeful_o strive_v with_o the_o weak_a faith_n of_o those_o that_o be_v he_o for_o when_o the_o angel_n can_v not_o persuade_v they_o that_o he_o be_v rise_v again_o he_o himself_o appear_v unto_o they_o alive_a and_o prove_v by_o many_o evident_a testimony_n that_o he_o be_v of_o a_o truth_n rise_v again_o and_o reviue_v talk_v with_o they_o eat_v with_o they_o offer_v himself_o unto_o they_o that_o they_o may_v see_v he_o and_o handle_v he_o send_v the_o woman_n and_o certain_a disciple_n for_o witness_n and_o leave_v nothing_o unattempted_a that_o may_v persuade_v they_o for_o in_o the_o faith_n and_o belief_n of_o the_o resurrection_n of_o jesus_n christ_n lie_v all_o our_o welfare_n we_o must_v therefore_o beseech_v almighty_a god_n to_o establish_v in_o we_o this_o faith_n and_o by_o his_o spirit_n mighty_o to_o work_v that_o we_o from_o sin_n may_v true_o
