as_o well_o ecclesiastical_a as_o civil_a this_o be_v the_o first_o precedent_n of_o that_o kind_n that_o be_v find_v in_o story_n for_o
occasion_n writer_n do_v not_o mention_v yet_o it_o seem_v he_o be_v restrain_v from_o return_v to_o alexandria_n for_o they_o that_o mention_v his_o return_n thither_o make_v it_o to_o be_v about_o the_o last_o year_n of_o constantine_n empire_n which_o be_v about_o ten_o year_n after_o arius_n his_o banishment_n and_o that_o this_o favour_n be_v show_v to_o arius_n be_v evident_a from_o the_o supplication_n that_o eusebius_n and_o theognis_n make_v to_o the_o emperor_n for_o therein_o they_o take_v notice_n of_o the_o favour_n do_v to_o arius_n who_o be_v the_o principal_a in_o the_o matter_n sentence_v by_o the_o emperor_n and_o the_o nicene_n council_n and_o therefore_o they_o beseech_v the_o emperor_n lenity_n as_o to_o themselves_o also_o it_o may_v seem_v also_o that_o arius_n have_v gain_v that_o favour_n by_o retractation_n of_o his_o error_n 20._o soc._n lib._n 1._o cap._n 20._o for_o both_o eusebius_n and_o theognis_n make_v their_o retractation_n also_o which_o they_o present_v to_o the_o emperor_n and_o the_o bishop_n wherein_o they_o do_v declare_v that_o they_o do_v consent_n to_o the_o confession_n of_o the_o faith_n agree_v upon_o by_o the_o nicene_n council_n and_o do_v promise_n that_o they_o will_v study_v the_o peace_n of_o the_o church_n and_o further_o more_o they_o show_v the_o cause_n of_o their_o refusal_n to_o subscribe_v the_o confession_n be_v not_o that_o they_o do_v disagree_v from_o the_o same_o faith_n with_o the_o council_n but_o because_o they_o can_v not_o consent_v to_o the_o sentence_n against_o arius_n who_o have_v in_o private_a conference_n with_o they_o declare_v that_o his_o judgement_n be_v other_o then_o what_o be_v apprehend_v by_o the_o council_n and_o therefore_o they_o pray_v to_o be_v admit_v to_o subscribe_v their_o consent_n to_o the_o confession_n of_o faith_n as_o it_o be_v agree_v by_o the_o council_n though_o not_o so_o much_o say_v they_o to_o avoid_v the_o penalty_n of_o banishment_n as_o that_o they_o may_v not_o lie_v under_o the_o heavy_a burden_n of_o be_v repute_v heretic_n be_v nevertheless_o willing_a to_o submit_v to_o the_o determination_n of_o the_o have_v courteous_a entertainment_n with_o they_o and_o this_o retractation_n thus_o present_v 11._o sect._n 11._o can_v not_o be_v long_o after_o the_o council_n at_o nice_a because_o these_o government_n afterward_o as_o by_o the_o sequel_n will_v appear_v so_o as_o though_o the_o council_n at_o nice_a end_v with_o the_o rout_n of_o arius_n and_o his_o party_n and_o renown_n of_o alexander_n and_o athanasius_n who_o be_v now_o become_v eminent_a among_o all_o the_o church_n yet_o arius_n and_o his_o follower_n be_v rally_v again_o by_o dissimulation_n for_o who_o ever_o he_o
