be_v and_o how_o we_o fail_v of_o it_o this_o evil_a world_n the_o life_n and_o virtue_n of_o he_o who_o have_v call_v we_o unto_o his_o kingdom_n and_o glory_n the_o truth_n which_o we_o know_v and_o which_o by_o the_o gospel_n be_v reveal_v unto_o we_o be_v the_o testimony_n of_o jesus_n that_o in_o he_o alone_o there_o be_v redemption_n from_o all_o sin_n that_o by_o he_o alone_o there_o be_v be_v call_v to_o be_v conformable_a unto_o the_o image_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n that_o be_v to_o be_v no_o way_n conformable_a unto_o this_o world_n but_o if_o we_o mind_v no_o such_o thing_n how_o can_v we_o be_v say_v to_o maintain_v the_o true_a aim_n of_o our_o holy_a profession_n the_o socinian_o who_o have_v cast_v off_o the_o truth_n which_o be_v in_o christ_n jesus_n concern_v our_o justification_n before_o god_n and_o have_v make_v the_o acknowledgement_n of_o his_o person_n in_o the_o truth_n void_a by_o their_o heresy_n these_o uphold_v still_o the_o aim_n of_o the_o profession_n namely_o that_o we_o must_v follow_v his_o footstep_n but_o we_o who_o be_v convict_v of_o the_o truth_n which_o they_o have_v deny_v seem_v to_o deny_v at_o least_o in_o our_o practice_n that_o which_o they_o uphold_v and_o consequent_o make_v the_o truth_n itself_o which_o we_o acknowledge_v ineffectual_a by_o our_o profession_n thereof_o because_o our_o aim_n be_v not_o in_o that_o the_o true_a aim_n of_o our_o profession_n be_v for_o the_o most_o part_n lose_v among_o we_o the_o second_o cause_n of_o our_o public_a distraction_n be_v this_o that_o although_o for_o the_o main_a a_o work_n of_o reformation_n be_v true_o aim_v at_o by_o some_o and_o many_o particular_a matter_n tend_v thereunto_o be_v right_o design_v by_o many_o for_o the_o advancement_n of_o religion_n yet_o the_o mean_n to_o bring_v this_o aim_n and_o these_o design_n to_o pass_v be_v not_o at_o all_o proportionate_a to_o the_o effect_n intend_v thereby_o the_o work_n of_o reformation_n no_o doubt_n hearty_o aim_v at_o by_o some_o be_v a_o real_a and_o thorough_a purge_n of_o the_o church_n and_o state_n from_o the_o corruption_n which_o have_v overgrow_v the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o and_o a_o settlement_n of_o both_o in_o a_o way_n of_o righteousness_n i_o say_v that_o it_o what_o the_o reformation_n aim_v at_o be_v and_o why_o we_o come_v short_a of_o it_o some_o aim_v particular_a duty_n too_o much_o and_o indiscreet_o lay_v too_o great_a weight_n upon_o it_o towards_o all_o without_o distinction_n of_o case_n whereby_o the_o weak_a conscience_n be_v straighten_a and_o ensnare_v or_o by_o apply_v a_o duty_n unto_o matter_n of_o state_n and_o public_a relation_n to_o the_o prejudice_n of_o one_o party_n for_o the_o advantage_n of_o another_o upon_o report_n or_o mistake_v and_o misconstruction_n of_o matter_n from_o whence_o oft_o time_n great_a scandal_n and_o discontent_n arise_v and_o be_v foment_v to_o the_o widen_v of_o breach_n without_o all_o application_n thereof_o unto_o particular_a duty_n it_o be_v no_o great_a wonder_n that_o their_o hearer_n remain_v ignorant_a of_o it_o and_o walk_v not_o up_o to_o it_o and_o it_o must_v natural_o follow_v that_o all_o the_o care_n whereunto_o their_o conscience_n will_v draw_v they_o in_o their_o profession_n will_v be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o professsion_n of_o some_o particular_a tenet_n and_o practice_n for_o which_o they_o will_v strive_v as_o for_o life_n and_o death_n not_o that_o i_o think_v that_o any_o truth_n or_o righteous_a practice_n be_v right_o to_o be_v esteem_v or_o neglect_v but_o that_o all_o the_o theory_n of_o the_o world_n and_o all_o the_o performance_n that_o can_v be_v wrought_v in_o particular_a duty_n may_v be_v a_o matter_n of_o mere_a hypocrisy_n in_o the_o professor_n and_o nothing_o else_o but_o a_o occasion_n of_o strife_n and_o disturbance_n towards_o those_o to_o who_o our_o profession_n be_v address_v if_o the_o true_a aim_n of_o the_o holy_a profession_n be_v not_o mind_v the_o teach_v then_o of_o the_o aim_n of_o our_o profession_n by_o god_n blessing_n upon_o the_o word_n of_o his_o servant_n may_v rectify_v the_o purpose_n of_o the_o hearer_n in_o their_o profession_n and_o cure_v the_o first_o and_o fundamental_a cause_n of_o all_o our_o distemper_n and_o if_o once_o this_o radical_a cause_n be_v take_v away_o the_o secundary_a which_o be_v but_o a_o stream_n flow_v from_o that_o fountain_n will_v soon_o be_v dry_v up_o by_o the_o heat_n of_o true_a love_n and_o sincerity_n which_o will_v take_v possession_n of_o the_o affection_n of_o those_o that_o in_o the_o spirit_n follow_v jesus_n christ_n for_o as_o the_o second_o cause_n of_o our_o distemper_n viz._n the_o want_n of_o disease_n the_o remedy_n of_o the_o which_o he_o do_v they_o by_o the_o manifestation_n of_o god_n love_n to_o those_o towards_o who_o he_o do_v make_v his_o application_n and_o because_o there_o be_v little_a or_o no_o sincerity_n of_o brotherly_a love_n apparent_a in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o mean_n which_o be_v set_v a_o foot_n for_o the_o advancement_n of_o a_o religious_a reformation_n among_o we_o therefore_o every_o thing_n rule_n by_o which_o we_o shall_v walk_v as_o child_n of_o god_n give_v we_o this_o charge_n ephes_n 5._o 2._o walk_v say_v he_o in_o love_n as_o christ_n also_o have_v love_v we_o and_o have_v give_v himself_o for_o we_o if_o then_o our_o aim_n be_v christ_n it_o will_v appear_v that_o the_o chief_a thing_n wherein_o our_o conformity_n with_o christ_n must_v stand_v will_v be_v the_o exercise_n which_o be_v set_v afoot_a and_o put_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o most_o man_n for_o the_o advancement_n of_o our_o reformation_n we_o shall_v find_v that_o nothing_o be_v so_o much_o want_v both_o in_o the_o frame_n of_o the_o counsel_n and_o in_o the_o execution_n of_o the_o work_n as_o the_o spirit_n of_o brotherly_a love_n and_o of_o holiness_n and_o where_o these_o two_o be_v deficient_a in_o those_o who_o act_n a_o reformation_n what_o can_v the_o event_n be_v other_o than_o disorder_n and_o confusion_n some_o act_n altogether_o by_o the_o way_n and_o in_o the_o mean_n of_o christian_a liberty_n some_o by_o the_o way_n and_o in_o the_o mean_n of_o christian_a authority_n but_o because_o neither_o of_o these_o for_o the_o most_o part_n be_v act_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o love_n to_o one_o another_o or_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o holiness_n to_o be_v separate_a from_o the_o world_n and_o from_o their_o own_o interest_n in_o what_o they_o do_v therefore_o they_o act_v nothing_o for_o but_o against_o one_o another_o as_o if_o christian_a liberty_n and_o christian_a authority_n be_v thing_n altogether_o inconsistent_a and_o so_o the_o mean_n which_o shall_v advance_v both_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o part_n of_o our_o spiritual_a constitution_n be_v not_o only_o ineffectual_a but_o offensive_a and_o destructive_a to_o each_o other_o because_o neither_o the_o
