desire_n the_o cause_n whereof_o be_v this_o all_o thing_n be_v only_o god_n it_o be_v better_a and_o more_o excellent_a that_o they_o shall_v appertain_v to_o god_n then_o to_o any_o creature_n and_o the_o cause_n why_o i_o do_v challenge_v any_o goodness_n to_o myself_o be_v by_o reason_n that_o i_o suppose_v that_o it_o be_v i_o or_o that_o i_o be_o it_o if_o i_o know_v the_o truth_n i_o shall_v suppose_v that_o he_o be_v something_o know_v and_o be_v able_a to_o do_v something_o and_o regard_v himself_o and_o his_o own_o end_n in_o business_n love_v himself_o etc._n etc._n man_n be_v and_o be_v create_v unto_o true_a obedience_n rom._n 5._o and_o do_v owe_v the_o same_o unto_o god_n and_o as_o this_o obedience_n be_v lose_v and_o perish_v in_o adam_n so_o it_o revive_v and_o flourish_v again_o in_o christ_n but_o disobedience_n arise_v and_o live_v in_o adam_n but_o die_v in_o christ_n and_o sure_o the_o humanity_n of_o christ_n be_v and_o consist_v so_o far_o forth_o whole_o and_o entire_o without_o itself_o &_o all_o other_o thing_n as_o no_o other_o creature_n consist_v at_o anytime_n in_o like_a manner_n and_o be_v none_o other_o thing_n but_o a_o certain_a mansion_n and_o habitation_n of_o god_n and_o whatsoever_o belong_v to_o god_n or_o appertain_v to_o that_o humanity_n have_v life_n and_o be_v a_o certain_a habitation_n of_o god_n of_o these_o it_o never_o challenge_v any_o thing_n to_o itself_o nay_o it_o do_v not_o challenge_v the_o very_a divinity_n to_o itself_o whereof_o it_o be_v a_o habitation_n nor_o any_o of_o those_o thing_n which_o the_o divinity_n will_v or_o refuse_v in_o it_o nor_o any_o of_o those_o thing_n which_o in_o the_o humanity_n either_o befall_v and_o be_v suffer_v so_o as_o in_o the_o humanity_n there_o be_v neither_o arrogation_n seek_v nor_o desire_n save_v only_o a_o seek_n and_o desire_n how_o and_o after_o what_o manner_n it_o may_v satisfy_v the_o divinity_n and_o that_o very_o desire_v the_o humanity_n do_v not_o attribute_v unto_o itself_o of_o this_o knowledge_n more_o can_v be_v speak_v or_o write_v in_o this_o place_n for_o it_o be_v unspeakable_a neither_o be_v it_o ever_o yet_o discover_v nor_o shall_v be_v full_o express_v for_o it_o be_v such_o a_o thing_n as_o can_v be_v speak_v or_o write_v but_o of_o he_o who_o be_v the_o selfsame_a thing_n and_o know_v it_o chap._n fourteen_o what_o the_o old_a and_o new_a man_n be_v this_o be_v also_o to_o be_v observe_v when_o mention_n be_v make_v of_o the_o old_a and_o new_a man_n the_o matter_n be_v thus_o to_o be_v understand_v the_o old_a egoity_n shall_v die_v s._n paul_n say_v put_v off_o the_o old_a man_n with_o his_o work_n and_o put_v on_o the_o new_a man_n who_o be_v make_v and_o form_v according_a unto_o god_n he_o that_o live_v in_o selfness_n and_o according_a to_o the_o old_a man_n he_o be_v and_o be_v call_v the_o son_n of_o adam_n and_o have_v power_n most_o especial_o and_o in_o very_a truth_n to_o live_v with_o he_o and_o be_v also_o the_o son_n and_o brother_n of_o the_o devil_n but_o he_o that_o live_v in_o obedience_n and_o in_o the_o new_a man_n he_o be_v the_o brother_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o son_n of_o god_n now_o when_o the_o old_a man_n die_v and_o the_o new_a man_n be_v bear_v there_o thence_o arise_v a_o new_a birth_n of_o which_o christ_n say_v except_o you_o be_v bear_v again_o you_o shall_v not_o enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n saint_n paul_n also_o say_v even_o as_o in_o adam_n all_o man_n do_v die_v even_o so_o in_o christ_n all_o be_v revive_v as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v else_o but_o in_o all_o thing_n attend_v his_o preparation_n and_o endeavour_n that_o he_o may_v be_v prepare_v sure_o god_n will_v prepare_v he_o sufficient_o and_o will_v add_v so_o much_o love_n diligence_n and_o study_n to_o that_o preparation_n as_o shall_v be_v sufficient_a to_o pour_v into_o he_o be_v now_o prepare_v all_o those_o good_a thing_n yet_o there_o be_v certain_a way_n which_o lead_v we_o hither_o according_a to_o the_o common_a say_n if_o any_o man_n desire_v to_o learn_v any_o art_n whereof_o he_o be_v ignorant_a there_o be_v four_o thing_n require_v to_o the_o learning_n of_o it_o the_o first_o which_o of_o all_o other_o be_v most_o necessary_a be_v a_o great_a desire_n diligence_n and_o endeavour_n continual_o that_o it_o may_v be_v do_v if_o this_o be_v absent_a the_o matter_n will_v never_o be_v attain_v the_o second_o be_v that_o you_o have_v something_o whereby_o to_o learn_v the_o three_o that_o you_o careful_o and_o diligent_o observe_v attend_v and_o reverence_v your_o master_n the_o four_o that_o yourself_o do_v also_o enterprise_v and_o exercise_v that_o thing_n and_o if_o any_o of_o these_o be_v want_v you_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o learn_v or_o obtain_v the_o art_n even_o such_o be_v the_o manner_n of_o this_o preparation_n and_o he_o that_o have_v the_o first_o id_fw-la est_fw-la diligence_n and_o a_o continual_a and_o serious_a desire_n to_o gain_v the_o end_n he_o do_v seek_v and_o find_v all_o thing_n which_o appertain_v be_v necessary_a and_o profitable_a for_o he_o and_o he_o that_o use_v not_o diligence_n and_o do_v neither_o love_n nor_o desire_n he_o on_o the_o other_o side_n do_v not_o seek_v and_o therefore_o do_v not_o find_v and_o without_o doubt_n remain_v unprepared_a nor_o ever_o come_v to_o the_o end_n chap._n xxi_o of_o the_o way_n unto_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n there_o be_v certain_a way_n and_o preparation_n prescribe_v likewise_o towards_o this_o which_o be_v that_o we_o ought_v to_o be_v god_n patient_n and_o to_o yield_v obedience_n duty_n and_o subjection_n unto_o he_o which_o be_v true_a for_o if_o any_o man_n can_v attain_v unto_o the_o end_n which_o may_v be_v have_v and_o compass_v in_o this_o life_n he_o shall_v be_v true_o and_o perfect_o endue_v with_o all_o these_o thing_n but_o he_o that_o ought_v and_o will_v suffer_v god_n must_v also_o suffer_v all_o thing_n that_o be_v god_n and_o himself_o and_o the_o nature_n of_o all_o thing_n none_o except_v and_o he_o that_o ought_v and_o will_v be_v obedient_a subject_a and_o dutiful_a unto_o god_n must_v express_v his_o obedience_n duty_n and_o subjection_n only_o by_o suffer_v and_o not_o by_o do_v also_o all_o thing_n in_o general_n be_v to_o be_v endure_v and_o suffer_v of_o he_o in_o silence_n and_o by_o perseverance_n in_o the_o inward_a sense_n of_o his_o mind_n and_o quiet_a and_o still_o bear_v and_o in_o all_o these_o thing_n we_o ought_v neither_o to_o desire_v help_n nor_o to_o make_v excuse_n nor_o to_o slander_n any_o nor_o to_o act_v revenge_n but_o in_o all_o thing_n say_v with_o a_o true_a love_a and_o submissive_a mercy_n father_n forgive_v they_o for_o they_o know_v not_o what_o they_o do_v this_o true_o will_v prove_v a_o good_a way_n &_o a_o excellent_a preparative_n towards_o the_o far_a end_n that_o man_n can_v attain_v unto_o in_o this_o life_n which_o be_v the_o belove_a life_n of_o christ_n for_o in_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n the_o aforenamed_a way_n exist_v and_o be_v observe_v full_o and_o perfect_o even_o to_o the_o end_n of_o the_o bodily_a life_n wherefore_o there_o be_v none_o other_o either_o more_o better_a or_o more_o prepare_a way_n for_o he_o that_o love_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n then_o to_o live_v and_o follow_v the_o same_o and_o to_o exercise_v himself_o in_o it_o so_o far_o as_o he_o may_v or_o can_v it_o be_v already_o set_v down_o in_o part_n what_o be_v hereunto_o require_v and_o whatsoever_o be_v say_v either_o here_o or_o elsewhere_o be_v all_o the_o way_n or_o the_o mean_n of_o the_o way_n to_o obtain_v the_o right_a end_n but_o what_o the_o end_n be_v no_o man_n can_v tell_v if_o any_o man_n desire_v to_o know_v it_o let_v he_o go_v the_o right_a way_n to_o it_o that_o be_v by_o this_o life_n of_o christ_n chap._n xxii_o in_o what_o man_n true_a christ_n be_v yet_o be_v there_o way_n to_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v when_o and_o wherein_o god_n and_o man_n be_v join_v together_o so_o that_o it_o may_v be_v true_o say_v and_o truth_n itself_o may_v acknowledge_v it_o that_o the_o true_a and_o perfect_a god_n and_o true_a perfect_a man_n be_v one_o and_o man_n do_v so_o yield_v &_o give_v place_n unto_o god_n that_o god_n himself_o there_o be_v man_n and_o that_o god_n also_o be_v there_o present_a and_o work_v alone_o and_o do_v and_o leave_v undo_v any_o thing_n without_o any_o i_o to_o i_o i_o and_o the_o like_a where_o these_o thing_n be_v and_o exist_v there_o be_v true_a christ_n and_o no_o where_o else_o therefore_o since_o that_o here_o be_v true_a and_o perfect_a man_n here_o be_v also_o perfect_a sense_n of_o pleasure_n and_o pain_n love_n &_o adversity_n and_o of_o all_o thing_n that_o can_v be_v feel_v or_o make_v trial_n of_o either_o inward_o or_o outward_o and_o because_o god_n there_o be_v also_o man_n himself_o he_o can_v understand_v and_o know_v love_n and_o other_o thing_n of_o that_o kind_n and_o even_o as_o man_n who_o be_v not_o god_n can_v feel_v and_o know_v all_o thing_n which_o do_v procure_v pleasure_n and_o sorrow_n to_o man_n and_o especial_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v contrary_a to_o himself_o after_o the_o same_o manner_n it_o come_v to_o pass_v where_o god_n and_o man_n be_v all_o one_o and_o yet_o god_n be_v man_n himself_o there_o be_v all_o thing_n feel_v which_o be_v contrary_a to_o god_n and_o man_n and_o even_o as_o man_n be_v there_o bring_v to_o nothing_o and_o god_n be_v all_o so_o happen_v it_o to_o he_o in_o that_o thing_n which_o be_v contrary_a to_o man_n and_o do_v grief_n he_o that_o be_v it_o be_v also_o bring_v to_o nothing_o and_o this_o aught_o to_o continue_v from_o god_n as_o long_o as_o corporal_a and_o naturallise_n do_v endure_v and_o be_v this_o also_o be_v to_o be_v observe_v that_o that_o one_o thing_n where_o god_n and_o man_n be_v unite_v together_o do_v consist_v without_o itself_o and_o without_o all_o thing_n and_o be_v free_a from_o all_o thing_n that_o be_v it_o be_v for_o god_n and_o not_o for_o man_n or_o the_o creature_n for_o it_o be_v the_o property_n of_o god_n to_o consist_v and_o be_v without_o this_o or_o that_o without_o selfness_n egoity_n and_o the_o like_a but_o it_o be_v the_o property_n of_o the_o creature_n to_o seek_v and_o will_v in_o all_o thing_n which_o it_o do_v or_o leave_v undo_v himself_n or_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v his_o own_o and_o this_o or_o that_o here_o or_o there_o when_o therefore_o the_o creature_n or_o man_n do_v lose_v or_o lay_v off_o his_o own_o selfness_n or_o himself_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o god_n enter_v into_o he_o with_o his_o own_o that_o be_v with_o his_o selfness_n chap._n xxiii_o what_o it_o be_v to_o be_v rich_a in_o spirit_n this_o also_o be_v to_o be_v consider_v after_o that_o man_n have_v pass_v over_o all_o that_o way_n which_o lead_v he_o to_o the_o truth_n and_o have_v exercise_v himself_o therein_o and_o have_v suffer_v so_o much_o affliction_n and_o so_o long_o as_o that_o now_o he_o think_v himself_o whole_o spend_v dead_a and_o go_v out_o of_o himself_o and_o give_v over_o whole_o unto_o god_n then_o do_v the_o devil_n first_o begin_v to_o sow_v his_o seed_n in_o he_o from_o which_o feed_v two_o fruit_n arise_v one_o of_o which_o be_v spiritual_a riches_n or_o spiritual_a pride_n the_o other_o be_v inordinate_a false_a liberty_n these_o be_v two_o sister_n who_o ordinary_o and_o willing_o frequent_v together_o and_o this_o happen_v after_o this_o manner_n the_o devil_n do_v so_o puff_n up_o man_n as_o that_o he_o do_v suppose_v he_o be_v come_v to_o the_o high_a exaltation_n so_o as_o now_o he_o stand_v in_o no_o more_o need_n of_o scripture_n or_o any_o other_o thing_n &_o general_o that_o he_o be_v become_v such_o a_o one_o as_o want_v nothing_o hence_o there_o arise_v in_o he_o a_o great_a cheerfulnes_n and_o peace_n whereupon_o it_o follow_v that_o he_o speak_v after_o this_o manner_n go_v to_o now_o i_o be_o above_o all_o man_n and_o know_v and_o understand_v more_o than_o the_o whole_a world_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v meet_v and_o right_a that_o i_o be_v the_o god_n of_o all_o creature_n &_o that_o all_o creature_n and_o especial_o all_o man_n shall_v serve_v i_o and_o
and_o enjoy_v it_o to_o the_o use_n of_o himself_o and_o those_o which_o be_v he_o and_o this_o be_v the_o great_a loss_n and_o injury_n this_o i_o say_v be_v that_o bit_n wherewith_o adam_n do_v bite_v the_o apple_n which_o be_v forbid_v and_o contrary_a to_o god_n and_o as_o long_o and_o where_o this_o self-will_n be_v there_o never_o be_v any_o true_a quietness_n which_o may_v easy_o be_v discern_v both_o in_o man_n and_o also_o in_o the_o devil_n neither_o be_v there_o very_o any_o true_a happiness_n there_o either_o in_o this_o life_n or_o everlasting_o where_o this_o self-will_n be_v there_o be_v a_o propriety_n by_o which_o man_n do_v challenge_v will_n unto_o himself_o and_o make_v it_o his_o own_o which_o if_o it_o be_v not_o forsake_v in_o this_o life_n but_o carry_v forth_o of_o this_o life_n it_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v that_o it_o can_v never_o be_v abandon_v neither_o can_v that_o man_n ever_o receive_v true_a contentment_n nor_o enjoy_v peace_n rest_n or_o happiness_n the_o which_o may_v be_v see_v in_o the_o devil_n if_o creature_n be_v not_o endue_v with_o reason_n and_o will_n sure_o god_n will_v remain_v unknown_a and_o unbelieved_a neither_o praise_v nor_o honour_v and_o all_o live_a creature_n will_v be_v of_o no_o aceount_n and_o unfit_a to_o serve_v god_n and_o this_o answer_n be_v make_v to_o this_o question_n if_o there_o be_v any_o one_o who_o from_o this_o long_a and_o tedious_a speech_n which_o notwithstanding_o be_v short_a and_o profitable_a to_o godward_o can_n and_o will_v correct_v himself_o that_o will_v be_v very_o acceptable_a to_o god_n that_o which_o be_v free_a be_v proper_a to_o no_o man_n and_o he_o that_o do_v appropriate_v it_o do_v ill_a now_o of_o all_o freedom_n nothing_o be_v so_o free_a as_o the_o will_n and_o whosoever_o make_v it_o his_o own_o and_o do_v not_o leave_v it_o to_o its_o own_o noble_a liberty_n free_a nobleness_n &_o free_a nature_n he_o do_v ill_a this_o do_v the_o devil_n and_o adam_n and_o all_o their_o imitator_n but_o he_o that_o do_v leave_v will_n to_o its_o own_o excellent_a liberty_n do_v as_o he_o ought_v this_o do_v christ_n and_o all_o that_o imitate_v he_o he_o that_o deprive_v will_n of_o that_o his_o excellent_a liberty_n and_o make_v it_o his_o own_o this_o man_n reward_n be_v that_o he_o become_v subject_a to_o care_n sorrow_n poverty_n trouble_n unquietness_n and_o misfortune_n and_o that_o he_o remain_v in_o they_o so_o long_o as_o that_o last_v both_o in_o this_o life_n and_o for_o ever_o but_o he_o that_o leave_v will_n to_o its_o own_o free_a nature_n he_o enjoy_v plenty_n peace_n quietness_n rest_n felicity_n both_o in_o this_o life_n and_o everlasting_o wherefore_o where_o and_o in_o what_o man_n will_v be_v not_o appropriate_v but_o remain_v in_o its_o own_o excellent_a freedom_n there_o abide_v and_o be_v a_o true_o free_a and_o absolute_a man_n or_o creature_n of_o who_o christ_n say_v truth_n shall_v make_v you_o free_a and_o present_o after_o who_o the_o son_n do_v make_v free_a he_o be_v free_a indeed_o john_n 8._o chap._n li._n that_o in_o what_o man_n the_o truth_n be_v in_o that_o man_n freewill_n be_v this_o condition_n wherein_o christ_n be_v after_o his_o resurrection_n etc._n etc._n there_o be_v no_o true_a liberty_n arise_v from_o the_o divine_a light_n but_o a_o natural_a unjust_a false_a erroneous_a &_o devilish_a liberty_n out_o of_o a_o natural_a life_n and_o erroneous_a light_n if_o there_o be_v no_o self-will_n there_o will_v be_v no_o propriety_n at_o all_o in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n nothing_o be_v proper_a and_o therefore_o there_o be_v full_a abundance_n true_a peace_n and_o all_o happpness_n and_o if_o any_o one_o be_v there_o who_o will_v challenge_v any_o propriety_n to_o himself_o he_o shall_v necessary_o go_v to_o hell_n and_o become_v a_o devil_n but_o in_o hell_n every_o one_o desire_v to_o have_v his_o own_o self-will_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v all_o unhappiness_n and_o misery_n the_o like_a also_o happen_v in_o this_o life_n but_o if_o there_o be_v any_o one_o in_o hell_n who_o can_v free_v himself_o from_o self-will_n and_o propriety_n he_o shall_v come_v from_o hell_n to_o heaven_n now_o man_n in_o this_o world_n be_v place_v between_o heaven_n and_o hell_n and_o may_v turn_v himself_o to_o either_o of_o they_o for_o the_o more_o propriety_n he_o have_v the_o more_o he_o be_v subject_a to_o hell_n and_o unhappiness_n and_o the_o less_o will_v he_o have_v the_o less_o hell_n he_o have_v &_o the_o near_o he_o be_v to_o the_o king_n dom_n of_o heaven_n and_o if_o man_n in_o this_o present_a world_n can_v be_v utter_o void_a of_o self-will_n and_o propriety_n and_o be_v free_a and_o absolute_a by_o mean_n of_o the_o true_a and_o divine_a light_n and_o shall_v remain_v true_o in_o that_o estate_n this_o man_n shall_v be_v sure_a to_o inherit_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n he_o that_o have_v will_v have_v or_o desire_v to_o have_v any_o thing_n proper_a to_o himself_o become_v proper_a and_o as_o it_o be_v his_o own_o slave_n and_o bondman_n but_o he_o that_o have_v nothing_o nor_o will_v have_v any_o thing_n nor_o belong_v to_o god_n and_o be_v proper_a only_o to_o he_o i_o say_v all_o that_o be_v it_o which_o may_v be_v true_o and_o right_o call_v and_o name_v good_a when_o man_n in_o the_o creature_n adher_v and_o cleave_v so_o to_o that_o which_o be_v know_v to_o be_v the_o best_a as_o that_o he_o remain_v steadfast_a and_o fly_v not_o back_o than_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o he_o attain_v to_o
