high_a and_o sore_a breach_n of_o this_o commandment_n and_o abuse_n of_o his_o name_n now_o the_o way_n to_o preserve_v one_o against_o all_o these_o abuse_n of_o god_n name_n be_v to_o fear_v a_o oath_n as_o in_o ecclesiasticus_fw-la set_v a_o good_a man_n and_o oppose_v he_o to_o a_o sinner_n he_o give_v he_o this_o mark_n that_o he_o fear_v a_o oath_n and_o if_o one_o be_v a_o fray_v to_o can_v with_o as_o much_o facility_n and_o nimbleness_n pour_v forth_o oath_n as_o any_o other_o word_n he_o be_v in_o continual_a danger_n to_o fall_v into_o that_o foul_a and_o most_o odious_a and_o hateful_a sin_n of_o perjury_n and_o thus_o we_o have_v hear_v how_o this_o commandment_n be_v break_v now_o where_o god_n forbid_v any_o ill_a he_o command_v the_o contrary_a good_a therefore_o we_o lawful_a use_n of_o a_o oath_n by_o observe_v these_o rule_n in_o the_o person_n or_o make_v that_o he_o be_v a_o christian_n &_o believer_n else_o he_o can_v swear_v lawful_o take_v that_o he_o do_v require_v and_o will_v accept_v a_o oath_n else_o there_o be_v no_o call_n thing_n that_o it_o be_v first_o true_a in_o judgement_n and_o knowledge_n second_o a_o matter_n of_o wait_n and_o importance_n three_o take_v with_o great_a fear_n and_o reverence_n of_o god_n name_n first_o for_o life_n a_o christian_n be_v bind_v here_o to_o behave_v himself_o so_o that_o his_o whole_a conversation_n may_v bring_v glory_n to_o the_o name_n of_o god_n he_o must_v so_o profit_v in_o knowledge_n and_o conscience_n by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o he_o profess_v &_o make_v such_o a_o good_a proceed_n in_o pure_a religion_n as_o that_o he_o may_v beautify_v his_o religion_n by_o a_o blameless_a and_o unspotted_a behaviour_n thus_o in_o mat._n 5._o christ_n say_v let_v your_o light_n so_o shine_v forth_o that_o man_n may_v see_v your_o good_a work_n and_o glorify_v your_o father_n which_o be_v in_o heaven_n he_o will_v have_v christian_n be_v as_o light_n and_o the_o light_n which_o they_o must_v send_v forth_o on_o every_o side_n must_v be_v a_o gracious_a and_o christian_n behaviour_n that_o man_n see_v &_o behold_v these_o beam_n may_v glorify_v not_o they_o to_o take_v my_o word_n within_o thy_o mouth_n and_o hate_v to_o be_v reform_v one_o go_v beyond_o his_o call_n and_o commission_n when_o he_o dare_v call_v himself_o a_o christian_n and_o god_n his_o when_o god_n have_v show_v the_o same_o mercy_n to_o they_o that_o in_o former_a time_n he_o do_v to_o you_o shall_v magnify_v god_n for_o those_o good_a thing_n that_o have_v be_v in_o you_o which_o religion_n he_o must_v adorn_v and_o deck_v it_o which_o he_o may_v do_v by_o be_v faithful_a and_o diligent_a in_o his_o place_n and_o give_v every_o man_n his_o due_a conscionable_o even_o a_o servant_n if_o he_o be_v not_o audacious_a and_o saucy_a and_o malapart_n and_o pick_v and_o false_a but_o trusty_a and_o diligent_a and_o serviceable_a and_o patient_a and_o meek_a and_o humble_a he_o keep_v god_n commandment_n he_o glorify_v god_n he_o grace_n religion_n he_o work_v out_o his_o own_o salvation_n do_v what_o in_o he_o lie_v to_o convert_v his_o unbelieve_a master_n and_o shall_v have_v a_o reward_n for_o this_o as_o well_o as_o if_o he_o be_v in_o a_o high_a and_o more_o honourable_a call_n that_o the_o world_n make_v more_o account_n off_o therefore_o this_o serve_v again_o to_o confute_v those_o professor_n that_o be_v so_o slender_o see_v in_o the_o meaning_n of_o god_n commandment_n as_o that_o they_o think_v if_o they_o be_v not_o common_a swearer_n and_o outrageous_a blasphemer_n the_o three_o commandment_n have_v nothing_o to_o say_v they_o &_o they_o be_v free_a from_o the_o breach_n of_o it_o but_o this_o and_o all_o other_o of_o god_n commandment_n be_v break_v as_o well_o by_o omission_n as_o commission_n as_o well_o by_o not_o perform_v that_o that_o be_v therein_o enjoin_v as_o by_o do_v that_o that_o be_v forbid_v for_o god_n do_v not_o give_v a_o law_n altogether_o negative_a but_o it_o consist_v of_o a_o part_n affirmative_a to_o and_o because_o neglect_v obedience_n to_o the_o first_o branch_n of_o this_o holy_a commandment_n &_o care_v not_o to_o cross_v god_n in_o that_o that_o be_v near_a unto_o he_o therefore_o he_o cross_v &_o plagu_v they_o in_o that_o that_o they_o do_v most_o set_v by_o in_o the_o he_o must_v glorify_v he_o in_o word_n &_o speech_n first_o in_o speak_v of_o god_n word_n as_o one_o ought_v for_o we_o must_v not_o only_o not_o speak_v of_o it_o vain_o jest_o or_o wre_o but_o we_o must_v look_v that_o we_o do_v speak_v of_o it_o to_o those_o good_a use_n and_o with_o that_o good_a affection_n and_o reverence_n that_o be_v meet_v and_o so_o in_o deutr._n 6._o 7._o these_o word_n not_o slide_v he_o show_v the_o privilege_n of_o a_o righteous_a man_n that_o he_o have_v god_n law_n so_o root_v and_o settle_v in_o his_o hart_n as_o it_o will_v sprout_v and_o bud_v forth_o in_o his_o mouth_n and_o these_o do_v so_o keep_v and_o preserve_v he_o that_o either_o he_o shall_v not_o do_v any_o thing_n that_o be_v wicked_a or_o fall_v into_o sin_n or_o if_o he_o do_v he_o shall_v be_v soon_o and_o happy_o recover_v those_o therefore_o fail_v much_o in_o this_o duty_n that_o will_v never_o talk_v of_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o scripture_n or_o of_o any_o part_n in_o god_n word_n they_o will_v come_v to_o the_o church_n &_o give_v the_o preacher_n a_o hour_n hear_v but_o follow_v they_o out_o of_o the_o church_n door_n &_o what_o kind_n of_o conference_n shall_v you_o hear_v come_v from_o they_o not_o one_o word_n of_o the_o sermon_n but_o present_o of_o earth_n earth_n straight_o to_o the_o root_n again_o though_o these_o man_n be_v not_o common_a swearer_n yet_o they_o have_v break_v this_o commandment_n for_o god_n command_v we_o here_o to_o speak_v so_o wise_o and_o discreet_o of_o his_o law_n as_o other_o may_v reap_v fruit_n and_o himself_o to_o and_o therefore_o howsoever_o foolish_a person_n be_v ready_a to_o excuse_v themselves_o that_o they_o be_v not_o booke-learned_n and_o therefore_o they_o can_v talk_v of_o scripture_n but_o they_o have_v show_n in_o word_n what_o a_o good_a hart_n they_o have_v how_o good_a a_o faith_n how_o they_o serve_v god_n day_n and_o night_n and_o many_o excellent_a thing_n rare_a man_n they_o be_v if_o you_o will_v believe_v their_o own_o report_n for_o such_o person_n i_o say_v that_o have_v all_o their_o goodness_n lock_v up_o so_o that_o it_o can_v never_o come_v abroad_o they_o may_v say_v what_o they_o will_v of_o themselves_o but_o christ_n say_v that_o a_o good_a man_n out_o of_o the_o good_a treasure_n of_o his_o hart_n bring_v forth_o good_a thing_n this_o be_v such_o a_o treasure_n as_o counter_n no_o man_n ever_o see_v he_o bring_v a_o handful_n of_o pure_a gold_n out_o of_o his_o chest_n but_o every_o day_n counter_n good_a store_n sure_a by_o this_o that_o come_v abroad_o one_o it_o so_o the_o reverend_a and_o conscionable_a use_n of_o it_o must_v have_v a_o promise_n of_o blessing_n annex_v to_o it_o also_o but_o for_o want_v of_o knowledge_n and_o faith_n in_o this_o point_n we_o want_v the_o fruit_n of_o it_o whereas_o a_o christian_n swear_v for_o conscience_n sake_n and_o in_o obedience_n to_o god_n commandment_n may_v lay_v upon_o a_o oath_n among_o his_o unregenerate_a man_n can_v swear_v lawful_o and_o therefore_o s._n paul_n swear_v say_v i_o call_v god_n to_o witness_v why_o but_o so_o may_v a_o unregenerate_a man_n and_o his_o oath_n be_v worth_a nothing_o therefore_o he_o add_v who_o i_o serve_v in_o my_o spirit_n show_v that_o he_o that_o will_v comfortable_o take_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o his_o mouth_n to_o swear_v must_v sanctify_v a_o oath_n though_o it_o be_v most_o true_a yet_o he_o sin_n and_o dishonour_n god_n in_o thus_o swear_v because_o whatsoever_o be_v not_o of_o faith_n be_v sin_n now_o he_o have_v no_o faith_n nor_o buy_n and_o sell_v be_v so_o ready_a to_o swear_v as_o that_o though_o no_o man_n be_v willing_a they_o shall_v swear_v you_o rather_o be_v grieve_v and_o trouble_v at_o it_o yet_o every_o thing_n of_o never_o so_o light_a moment_n must_v have_v the_o confirmation_n of_o a_o oath_n join_v unto_o it_o but_o what_o get_v they_o that_o will_v make_v a_o trade_n of_o swear_v sure_o this_o that_o they_o grow_v to_o be_v suspect_v of_o unfaithfulnesse_n and_o when_o they_o be_v so_o lavish_a of_o god_n name_n both_o their_o own_o heart_n grow_v less_o to_o reverence_v it_o and_o other_o will_v not_o believe_v they_o but_o the_o more_o suspect_v they_o the_o more_o they_o think_v to_o remove_v all_o suspicion_n for_o a_o godly_a man_n and_o one_o that_o have_v any_o true_a fidelity_n in_o he_o set_v more_o by_o the_o name_n of_o god_n then_o to_o pawn_v it_o upon_o every_o small_a occasion_n and_o therefore_o those_o may_v be_v just_o think_v most_o deceitful_a towards_o man_n that_o be_v most_o profane_a to_o god_n and_o he_o that_o care_v not_o to_o dishonour_n god_n will_v never_o make_v any_o great_a bone_n of_o cozen_a his_o neighbour_n these_o rule_n be_v for_o the_o person_n now_o for_o the_o thing_n itself_o first_o it_o must_v be_v true_a that_o be_v swear_v that_o be_v the_o thing_n which_o we_o confirm_v by_o take_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o our_o mouth_n must_v not_o only_o be_v true_a in_o itself_o but_o it_o must_v also_o be_v a_o know_a truth_n of_o which_o he_o that_o swear_v have_v some_o certainty_n his_o conscience_n must_v not_o doubt_v of_o will_v move_v he_o that_o have_v any_o true_a mercy_n to_o seek_v to_o reclaim_v he_o and_o then_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o good_a of_o the_o whole_a congregation_n one_o must_v hinder_v stranger_n from_o give_v such_o ill_a example_n for_o though_o it_o seem_v at_o first_o a_o small_a thing_n to_o suffer_v a_o stranger_n let_v he_o do_v what_o he_o listen_v it_o pertain_v not_o to_o we_o yet_o it_o be_v dangerous_a for_o our_o nature_n be_v so_o subject_a to_o infection_n and_o we_o so_o easy_o draw_v to_o evil_a that_o if_o one_o suffer_v a_o stranger_n at_o length_n his_o child_n and_o servant_n will_v learn_v and_o come_v after_o to_o do_v the_o same_o thing_n so_o that_o for_o our_o own_o sake_n we_o must_v be_v diligent_a to_o cut_v of_o occasion_n and_o wary_o prevent_v danger_n for_o one_o house_n on_o fire_n may_v burn_v the_o whole_a town_n and_o if_o a_o stranger_n will_v buy_v a_o house_n in_o the_o town_n and_o then_o be_v so_o foolish_a to_o set_v it_o on_o fire_n man_n will_v not_o let_v he_o alone_o for_o fear_v it_o shall_v also_o catch_v their_o house_n and_o so_o in_o truth_n if_o the_o fire_n of_o sin_n kindle_v in_o the_o heart_n &_o practice_n of_o a_o stranger_n &_o we_o seek_v not_o to_o quench_v &_o suppress_v it_o it_o will_v not_o tarry_v there_o long_o it_o will_v catch_v some_o in_o the_o congregation_n and_o set_v they_o a_o burn_a to_o therefore_o in_o love_n to_o god_n glory_n to_o our_o brother_n soul_n and_o to_o ourselves_o and_o those_o that_o be_v near_o unto_o we_o we_o must_v labour_v by_o what_o mean_v we_o can_v to_o hinder_v even_o a_o stranger_n from_o break_v the_o sabbath_n now_o if_o one_o must_v hinder_v stranger_n how_o much_o more_o such_o as_o be_v bear_v and_o dwell_v in_o the_o same_o place_n our_o neighbour_n child_n or_o servant_n if_o we_o see_v such_o profane_v the_o sabbath_n we_o shall_v much_o more_o hinder_v they_o by_o admonition_n and_o reproof_n but_o especial_o if_o we_o see_v they_o run_v to_o thing_n that_o be_v simple_o evil_a and_o in_o their_o own_o nature_n at_o all_o time_n unlawful_a therefore_o for_o man_n that_o be_v of_o some_o account_n &_o note_n in_o a_o congregation_n in_o a_o town_n to_o come_v among_o headdie_a youth_n and_o see_v they_o violen_o carry_v to_o dance_v to_o game_n or_o any_o such_o lewdness_n on_o the_o sabbath_n especial_o and_o let_v they_o go_v on_o without_o any_o rebuke_n or_o exhortation_n never_o tell_v they_o of_o it_o never_o dehort_v they_o from_o it_o this_o show_n that_o there_o be_v but_o a_o little_a love_n of_o god_n in_o none_o of_o the_o party_n soul_n and_o that_o they_o have_v little_a regard_n of_o themselves_o and_o their_o own_o family_n but_o in_o truth_n this_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o make_v wickedness_n grow_v so_o fast_o and_o sin_n get_v up_o with_o a_o high_a hand_n and_o youth_n grow_v to_o such_o impudent_a and_o shameless_a boldness_n because_o the_o minister_n fight_v alone_o against_o sin_n none_o else_o will_v open_v his_o mouth_n to_o speak_v against_o it_o or_o discountenance_v it_o he_o that_o will_v not_o stand_v by_o and_o see_v the_o ox_n fall_v into_o the_o ditch_n but_o he_o will_v help_v he_o out_o will_v look_v on_o while_n the_o child_n run_v headlong_o towards_o hell_n and_o say_v not_o a_o word_n to_o reclaim_v they_o this_o remisenesse_n of_o man_n that_o be_v of_o some_o estimation_n in_o the_o town_n make_v proud_a youth_n oft_o time_n so_o audacious_a to_o set_v themselves_o open_o against_o the_o minister_n doctrine_n and_o as_o it_o be_v by_o their_o practice_n in_o the_o heat_n of_o lust_n to_o contrary_v he_o even_o when_o he_o be_v reprove_v any_o sin_n when_o the_o doctrine_n be_v yet_o hot_a and_o the_o sound_n of_o his_o voice_n be_v scarce_o go_v out_o of_o their_o ear_n then_o to_o run_v open_o to_o gainsay_v that_o which_o be_v teach_v in_o the_o church_n so_o soon_o as_o they_o come_v out_o of_o the_o church_n this_o strength_n of_o impiety_n proceed_v hence_o i_o say_v that_o the_o minister_n have_v no_o help_n none_o have_v a_o zeal_n of_o god_n glory_n so_o that_o he_o be_v grieve_v at_o his_o dishonour_n none_o have_v so_o much_o charity_n and_o compassion_n over_o their_o neighbour_n as_o that_o they_o seek_v to_o pull_v they_o out_o of_o the_o danger_n of_o hell_n fire_n for_o if_o but_o two_o or_o three_o or_o some_o more_o of_o the_o ancient_a man_n that_o have_v some_o authority_n and_o sway_n in_o the_o congregation_n will_v join_v their_o hand_n with_o the_o minister_n and_o set_v in_o with_o their_o private_a rebuke_n and_o reproof_n to_o make_v his_o public_a reproof_n forcible_a young_a people_n will_v be_v more_o ashamed_a of_o sin_n and_o learn_v to_o behave_v themselves_o more_o sober_o then_o in_o public_a as_o it_o be_v to_o bid_v battle_n to_o the_o public_a doctrine_n of_o the_o minister_n therefore_o this_o slackness_n and_o coldness_n be_v much_o to_o be_v reprove_v then_o second_o this_o be_v for_o the_o encouragement_n of_o such_o as_o do_v desire_n to_o help_v other_o out_o of_o this_o or_o any_o other_o sin_n they_o may_v bold_o with_o a_o good_a hart_n and_o conscience_n rebuke_v a_o sabbath_n breaker_n whereas_o they_o will_v object_v why_o what_o be_v that_o to_o you_o if_o i_o sin_v myself_o i_o must_v perish_v myself_o what_o have_v you_o to_o do_v to_o meddle_v yes_o they_o have_v to_o do_v to_o meddle_v they_o have_v to_o love_v they_o they_o have_v to_o love_v the_o congregation_n and_o to_o love_v god_n glory_n &_o therefore_o as_o much_o as_o they_o can_v to_o disgrace_n sin_n for_o though_o sinner_n begin_v to_o set_v sin_n a_o foot_n yet_o if_o some_o godly_a wise_a man_n will_v encounter_v it_o with_o a_o sound_a admonition_n and_o sharp_a rebuke_n that_o will_v dash_v and_o disgrace_v it_o as_o much_o as_o the_o practice_n of_o sinner_n will_v support_v it_o so_o that_o it_o can_v get_v a_o head_n so_o soon_o therefore_o because_o they_o be_v man_n that_o sin_n and_o it_o be_v god_n law_n that_o be_v break_v and_o the_o whole_a congregation_n that_o be_v infect_v &_o poison_a he_o that_o have_v that_o affection_n he_o shall_v to_o any_o of_o these_o have_v to_o do_v to_o use_v a_o preservative_n against_o this_o poison_n and_o to_o stand_v for_o god_n commandment_n and_o the_o salvation_n of_o man_n let_v wicked_a sinner_n while_o they_o will_v accuse_v they_o to_o be_v busy_a body_n that_o be_v no_o matter_n better_o displease_v man_n by_o good_a than_o god_n by_o evil_n it_o follow_v church_n of_o god_n when_o they_o begin_v once_o to_o lift_v up_o themselves_o and_o seek_v their_o own_o vainglory_n more_o than_o god_n glory_n and_o so_o have_v turn_v their_o gift_n the_o wrong_a full_a of_o long_a suffering_n to_o be_v a_o example_n to_o other_o of_o meekness_n but_o contrary_a it_o be_v in_o those_o who_o sin_n of_o their_o youth_n have_v stain_v they_o so_o deep_o and_o so_o fill_v their_o body_n as_o there_o be_v no_o grace_n to_o be_v see_v in_o their_o old_a age_n their_o word_n be_v altogether_o vain_a and_o light_n foolish_a nothing_o savour_v of_o grace_n so_o that_o no_o man_n can_v in_o reverence_n either_o crave_v advice_n from_o they_o or_o be_v silent_a to_o hear_v such_o foolish_a and_o unsaverie_a talk_n as_o customable_o come_v from_o they_o and_o their_o conversation_n full_a of_o testinesse_n and_o unaduised_a wrath_n and_o bloat_v with_o miserable_a and_o abject_a covetousness_n and_o greediness_n that_o they_o be_v always_o smell_v earthward_o and_o pursue_v the_o world_n swift_o when_o they_o can_v scarce_o go_v up_o and_o down_o in_o the_o world_n no_o grace_n no_o wisdom_n nor_o any_o virtue_n bewtifi_v their_o grey_a hair_n these_o want_n and_o that_o just_o their_o honour_n because_o they_o have_v the_o first_o step_n old_a age_n but_o they_o want_v the_o upshot_n and_o perfection_n to_o be_v find_v in_o the_o way_n that_o when_o as_o they_o be_v in_o truth_n sound_a christian_n and_o many_o infallible_a work_n of_o true_a christianity_n have_v appear_v and_o do_v now_o appear_v in_o they_o yet_o if_o the_o devil_n either_o do_v himself_o or_o else_o move_v some_o wicked_a some_o filthy_a sinner_n to_o roar_v in_o their_o ear_n that_o they_o be_v hypocrite_n and_o that_o they_o have_v no_o truth_n in_o trouble_n and_o many_o gripe_n upon_o their_o soul_n that_o if_o they_o have_v withstand_v these_o lie_n they_o may_v have_v escape_v nay_o say_v you_o sure_o it_o be_v as_o they_o say_v wretch_n that_o i_o be_o god_n have_v meet_v with_o i_o now_o they_o shall_v not_o have_v have_v power_n to_o say_v so_o have_v it_o not_o be_v so_o i_o be_o false_a all_o that_o i_o have_v do_v be_v in_o vain_a it_o be_v but_o gloss_v and_o dissemble_v and_o why_o so_o be_v not_o the_o devil_n a_o liar_n and_o will_v you_o so_o easy_o give_v he_o credit_n and_o that_o at_o the_o first_o but_o this_o be_v not_o well_o for_o as_o one_o shall_v not_o yield_v to_o the_o unjust_a and_o false_a praise_n of_o another_o so_o neither_o must_v he_o condemn_v himself_o upon_o so_o slender_a a_o ground_n as_o the_o devil_n or_o devilish_a man_n word_n nay_o one_o must_v not_o so_o easy_o rob_v god_n of_o his_o praise_n and_o himself_o of_o his_o comfort_n and_o as_o the_o former_a person_n be_v so_o easy_o seduce_v in_o matter_n of_o their_o commendation_n because_o they_o seldom_o or_o never_o look_v over_o their_o sin_n so_o these_o be_v so_o quick_o put_v in_o doubt_n of_o their_o uprightness_n because_o they_o do_v not_o use_v to_o mark_v what_o good_a work_n they_o do_v and_o to_o consider_v what_o grace_n god_n have_v bestow_v upon_o they_o for_o if_o one_o will_v not_o be_v god_n may_v have_v his_o due_a praise_n and_o man_n his_o due_a edification_n thus_o much_o for_o the_o general_a duty_n now_o the_o special_a concern_v either_o other_o or_o ourselves_o in_o speak_v of_o other_o these_o rule_n must_v be_v observe_v in_o praise_v to_o speak_v in_o one_o commendation_n rather_o in_o his_o absence_n because_o if_o one_o be_v commend_v before_o one_o face_n though_o speak_v so_o much_o to_o magnify_v one_o good_a part_n as_o when_o the_o man_n himself_o be_v within_o the_o hear_n and_o never_o so_o much_o of_o one_o fault_n and_o frailty_n as_o when_o he_o be_v far_o enough_o of_o this_o show_v that_o the_o one_o come_v from_o a_o fawn_a disposition_n to_o curry_v favour_n rather_o than_o in_o acknowledgement_n of_o the_o grace_n and_o the_o other_o rather_o from_o malice_n and_o revenge_n more_o than_o from_o love_n and_o desite_fw-la of_o the_o party_n good_a for_o one_o shall_v not_o in_o modesty_n make_v a_o rehearsal_n of_o one_o good_a thing_n with_o idolater_n for_o this_o be_v to_o join_v ourselves_o to_o those_o that_o hate_v god_n and_o for_o this_o jehosaphat_n be_v reprove_v what_o say_v the_o prophet_n will_v thou_o love_v those_o that_o hate_n god_n &_o help_v they_o what_o have_v thou_o to_o do_v to_o be_v so_o friendly_a &_o familiar_a with_o god_n enemy_n yet_o if_o one_o have_v come_v to_o ahab_n and_o tell_v he_o that_o he_o have_v hate_v god_n he_o will_v have_v defy_v he_o and_o say_v that_o he_o have_v love_v god_n as_o well_o as_o the_o best_a but_o that_o be_v no_o matter_n what_o ahab_n will_v say_v so_o long_o as_o god_n account_v he_o a_o enemy_n jehoshaphat_n shall_v have_v have_v no_o society_n nor_o friendship_n with_o he_o so_o that_o they_o be_v much_o to_o be_v condemn_v that_o will_v seem_v to_o have_v some_o care_n of_o religion_n themselves_o and_o to_o look_v to_o their_o own_o way_n that_o they_o be_v good_a but_o yet_o they_o can_v be_v familiar_a &_o make_v friendship_n with_o idolater_n and_o profess_a superstitious_a person_n why_o but_o be_v not_o this_o a_o hatred_n of_o god_n and_o be_v not_o you_o then_o subject_a to_o that_o reproof_n of_o jehoshaphat_n what_o will_v thou_o love_v they_o that_o hate_v i_o no_o man_n will_v be_v know_v to_o be_v a_o familiar_a friend_n to_o a_o open_a traitor_n that_o the_o king_n &_o counsel_n have_v proclaim_v a_o traitor_n for_o fear_v lest_o he_o shall_v be_v taint_v with_o some_o suspicion_n of_o treason_n and_o in_o deed_n he_o that_o will_v be_v so_o conversant_a and_o so_o well_o acquaint_v with_o such_o as_o god_n they_o at_o the_o least_o shall_v be_v holy_a as_o abraham_n have_v ungodly_a ishmael_n but_o yet_o he_o have_v godly_a isaac_n and_o isaac_n have_v profane_a esau_n but_o he_o have_v holy_a jacob_n to_o and_o david_n have_v wicked_a absalon_n &_o incestuous_a ammon_n but_o yet_o with_o all_o he_o have_v godly_a solomon_n &_o nathan_n or_o if_o none_o of_o the_o next_o offspring_n be_v good_a yet_o some_o of_o they_o that_o follow_v shall_v be_v holy_a the_o godliness_n of_o the_o parent_n will_v show_v itself_o in_o the_o bud_n soon_o or_o late_a as_o in_o hezekiah_n though_o manasseh_n that_o succeed_v he_o be_v at_o first_o a_o wicked_a idolater_n yet_o good_a josiah_n be_v in_o the_o next_o generation_n a_o good_a &_o holy_a man_n or_o if_o that_o good_a man_n at_o any_o time_n be_v barren_a yet_o his_o own_o soul_n and_o body_n shall_v feel_v the_o blessing_n those_o that_o love_v he_o and_o keep_v his_o commandment_n that_o be_v those_o which_o have_v such_o a_o true_a love_n to_o he_o as_o do_v show_v itself_o by_o the_o faithful_a use_v of_o his_o pure_a worship_n and_o by_o keep_v not_o the_o duty_n of_o flesh_n and_o blood_n but_o his_o commandment_n so_o that_o here_o god_n set_v down_o this_o as_o a_o note_n of_o love_v he_o to_o keep_v his_o commandment_n whence_o this_o lesson_n arise_v that_o the_o love_n of_o god_n consist_v in_o keep_v his_o commandment_n but_o afore_o the_o doctrine_n be_v further_o declare_v a_o objection_n must_v be_v remove_v for_o one_o may_v say_v what_o do_v you_o say_v that_o none_o love_v god_n but_o those_o that_o keep_v his_o commandment_n than_o i_o pray_v you_o where_o can_v you_o find_v one_o that_o love_v god_n and_o who_o be_v this_o that_o be_v able_a perfect_o to_o keep_v and_o fulfil_v the_o law_n of_o god_n but_o for_o the_o absolve_a of_o this_o doubt_n know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n betwixt_o these_o two_o to_o keep_v god_n commandment_n &_o to_o fulfil_v god_n commandment_n for_o keep_v note_v a_o truth_n fulfil_v a_o perfection_n this_o perfection_n christ_n only_o have_v but_o this_o truth_n every_o christian_n must_v have_v for_o every_o christian_n man_n may_v so_o far_o keep_v god_n law_n as_o that_o he_o shall_v be_v both_o accept_v and_o also_o reward_v though_o not_o for_o the_o merit_n
of_o the_o work_n yet_o for_o the_o mercy_n of_o he_o that_o accept_v the_o work_n but_o this_o true_a keep_n must_v be_v know_v by_o these_o note_n first_o in_o keep_v one_o must_v aim_v at_o all_o the_fw-mi must_v be_v a_o full_a purpose_n and_o true_a desire_n to_o keep_v all_o for_o if_o one_o lie_v in_o any_o sin_n &_o break_v any_o wilful_o than_o the_o wilful_a &_o know_a breach_n of_o one_o make_v he_o guilty_a of_o all_o second_o the_o obedience_n must_v be_v do_v willing_o with_o a_o free_a &_o cheerful_a hart_n as_o david_n bid_v solomon_n serve_v the_o lord_n with_o a_o willing_a mind_n three_o the_o end_n of_o our_o action_n must_v be_v good_a to_o show_v our_o loyalty_n to_o god_n to_o approve_v our_o heart_n to_o he_o in_o obedience_n to_o his_o commandment_n that_o we_o may_v be_v bless_v of_o he_o and_o not_o for_o any_o other_o end_n or_o intent_n of_o our_o own_o as_o to_o be_v magnify_v of_o man_n and_o to_o merit_v by_o they_o or_o such_o like_a he_o that_o have_v all_o these_o thing_n keep_v the_o law_n of_o god_n indeed_o no_o man_n can_v fulfil_v it_o neither_o be_v it_o require_v of_o god_n child_n that_o they_o shall_v because_o they_o be_v under_o grace_n and_o not_o under_o the_o law_n for_o the_o rigour_n of_o it_o but_o for_o those_o that_o be_v out_o of_o christ_n this_o condition_n be_v propose_v to_o they_o win_v it_o and_o wear_v it_o keep_v the_o law_n in_o full_a perfection_n &_o have_v happiness_n in_o full_a perfection_n but_o break_v it_o in_o the_o least_o title_n &_o loose_v your_o salvation_n those_o which_o be_v not_o in_o christ_n be_v thus_o bind_v but_o those_o which_o be_v his_o member_n &_o that_o be_v make_v one_o with_o he_o by_o faith_n be_v under_o grace_n &_o there_o be_v a_o more_o favourable_a obedience_n require_v of_o they_o not_o to_o fulfil_v the_o law_n in_o the_o extremity_n of_o it_o but_o to_o keep_v the_o law_n in_o the_o uprightness_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o to_o do_v so_o much_o as_o god_n spirit_n that_o be_v bestow_v on_o they_o give_v they_o power_n to_o do_v but_o now_o to_o return_v to_o the_o doctrine_n itself_o whosoever_o love_v god_n must_v in_o this_o manner_n as_o have_v be_v speak_v keep_v the_o la_o of_o god_n this_o be_v prove_v 1._o john_n 5._o 3._o 4._o this_o be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n that_o we_o keep_v his_o commandment_n be_v it_o so_o spirit_n which_o regenerate_v we_o have_v set_v down_o and_o over_o come_v those_o lust_n in_o that_o measure_n god_n commandment_n be_v very_o easy_a &_o lightsome_a &_o we_o shall_v with_o as_o much_o comfort_n and_o quietness_n obey_v they_o as_o adam_z in_o his_o innocence_n when_o we_o be_v once_o true_o convert_v according_a to_o the_o measure_n of_o our_o conversion_n it_o be_v a_o most_o tedious_a thing_n to_o a_o christian_n hart_n to_o obey_v the_o devil_n commandment_n but_o it_o be_v most_o joyous_a to_o follow_v god_n as_o if_o it_o be_v permit_v to_o a_o christian_n man_n for_o the_o while_n to_o steal_v to_o lie_v to_o commit_v adultery_n and_o to_o break_v the_o sabbath_n or_o such_o like_a why_o his_o soul_n will_v abhor_v it_o and_o he_o will_v rather_o die_v then_o do_v these_o thing_n it_o will_v be_v such_o a_o vexation_n unto_o he_o but_o now_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n to_o pray_v to_o confer_v to_o do_v work_n of_o mercy_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o this_o kind_n it_o be_v even_o a_o recreation_n and_o delightful_a sport_n for_o he_o to_o do_v they_o for_o god_n commandment_n be_v pure_a and_o holy_a and_o do_v delight_v the_o hart_n so_o far_o as_o it_o be_v pure_a and_o holy_a so_o john_n 14._o 15._o if_o you_o love_v i_o keep_v my_o commandment_n and_o i_o will_v pray_v the_o father_n and_o he_o shall_v send_v you_o another_o comforter_n sabbath_n and_o manifest_a contempt_n of_o god_n word_n and_o yet_o tell_v they_o of_o it_o and_o come_v to_o ask_v they_o if_o they_o be_v not_o ashamed_a thus_o in_o the_o face_n of_o the_o world_n to_o proclaim_v enmity_n against_o god_n than_o first_o they_o fall_v to_o shift_v and_o cloak_v but_o if_o you_o come_v with_o so_o good_a proof_n and_o ferret_v they_o out_o so_o sound_o that_o they_o can_v deny_v it_o but_o be_v convince_v to_o their_o face_n why_o then_o this_o be_v next_o what_o be_v you_o without_o sin_n have_v you_o no_o fault_n do_v you_o keep_v all_o god_n commandment_n yes_o miserable_a man_n there_o be_v fault_n in_o the_o best_a but_o this_o be_v blockishness_n for_o be_v there_o no_o difference_n betwixt_o fall_v by_o frailty_n and_o through_o infirmity_n and_o live_v and_o lie_v in_o a_o sin_n and_o allow_v one_o self_n in_o the_o commit_n of_o it_o that_o frailty_n be_v in_o god_n elect_a child_n but_o this_o wilful_a disobedience_n and_o maintain_n be_v in_o hipocrit_n that_o god_n put_v away_o and_o regard_v not_o this_o he_o will_v never_o put_v away_o unless_o there_o be_v a_o amendment_n and_o great_a soundness_n for_o such_o person_n love_v not_o god_n and_o it_o be_v just_a if_o he_o plague_v they_o and_o pursue_v they_o as_o his_o enemy_n this_o likewise_o serve_v for_o the_o great_a comfort_n of_o god_n child_n that_o do_v their_o best_a endeavour_n to_o keep_v all_o god_n commandment_n and_o that_o with_o a_o willing_a hart_n and_o good_a intent_n and_o mind_n not_o think_v to_o merit_v any_o thing_n by_o they_o for_o they_o know_v god_n must_v still_o show_v mercy_n even_o to_o those_o that_o love_v he_o and_o keep_v his_o commandment_n this_o i_o say_v comfort_n all_o they_o for_o when_o he_o have_v do_v all_o he_o can_v he_o come_v short_a and_o fail_v but_o yet_o god_n will_v show_v mercy_n this_o word_n may_v rejoice_v they_o for_o he_o will_v show_v mercy_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v though_o you_o come_v far_o short_a of_o that_o you_o shall_v and_o will_v yet_o so_o long_o as_o your_o hart_n be_v true_a god_n will_v show_v mercy_n for_o he_o require_v not_o fulfil_v but_o keep_v if_o
