altogether_o unlearned_a true_o i_o can_v deny_v the_o sanctify_a use_n of_o the_o lord_n prayer_n as_o some_o do_v in_o these_o day_n for_o it_o be_v a_o very_a complete_a and_o compendious_a form_n or_o pattern_n of_o prayer_n prescribe_v by_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o not_o to_o be_v reject_v by_o the_o pride_n of_o man_n yet_o many_o there_o be_v that_o do_v but_o only_o say_v it_o and_o that_o without_o either_o benefit_n or_o comfort_n for_o there_o be_v many_o thousand_o that_o do_v not_o right_o understand_v so_o much_o as_o why_o they_o call_v god_n their_o father_n that_o which_o we_o call_v the_o apostle_n creed_n contain_v the_o substance_n or_o history_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o be_v bare_o or_o simple_o consider_v without_o particular_a application_n it_o will_v furnish_v we_o but_o with_o a_o bare_a historical_a faith_n the_o devil_n believe_v it_o and_o tremble_v nevertheless_o and_o as_o for_o the_o ten_o commandment_n they_o be_v secure_a or_o safe_a the_o first_o sort_n of_o peace_n be_v a_o sluggish_a peace_n the_o second_o be_v a_o slavish_a peace_n the_o three_o be_v a_o deceitful_a peace_n .._o and_o the_o four_o be_v the_o safe_a peace_n the_o first_o i_o tell_v you_o be_v a_o sluggish_a peace_n and_o this_o be_v when_o a_o man_n lie_v snort_v in_o the_o filthy_a bosom_n of_o a_o sinful_a corrupt_a conversation_n without_o any_o feel_n of_o god_n fierce_a wrath_n or_o of_o his_o own_o desperate_a condition_n as_o be_v subject_a even_o that_o very_a instant_n to_o be_v swallow_v up_o of_o that_o most_o horrible_a and_o dreadful_a gulf_n of_o everlasting_a death_n and_o endless_a torment_n this_o kind_n of_o sluggish_a peace_n be_v very_o much_o illustrate_v by_o jonah_n his_o example_n in_o the_o first_o chapter_n of_o his_o history_n where_o the_o lord_n command_v jonah_n to_o go_v and_o cry_v against_o nineveh_n but_o jonah_n disobey_v god_n command_n and_o go_v down_o to_o joppa_n where_o find_v a_o ship_n bind_v for_o tarshish_n he_o pay_v the_o fare_n thereof_o and_o go_v down_o thereinto_o to_o fly_v unto_o tarshish_n from_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o that_o mighty_a tempest_n whereby_o the_o ship_n be_v likely_a to_o be_v break_v jonah_n be_v lay_v fast_o a_o sleep_n in_o the_o side_n of_o the_o ship_n until_o the_o shipmaster_n rouze_v he_o up_o and_o soon_o after_o cast_v he_o overboard_o into_o the_o rage_a ocean_n so_o the_o lord_n command_v all_o man_n every_o where_o to_o repent_v act_v 17._o 30._o he_o exhort_v we_o and_o we_o shall_v not_o escape_v as_o in_o the_o 1_o thes_n 5._o 2_o 3._o this_o be_v the_o sluggish_a peace_n the_o second_o be_v a_o slavish_a peace_n when_o a_o man_n be_v content_v to_o submit_v unto_o the_o slavery_n of_o sin_n and_o satan_n without_o endeavour_v or_o desire_v to_o recover_v himself_o out_o of_o the_o snare_n of_o the_o devil_n but_o be_v take_v captive_a by_o he_o at_o his_o will_n as_o 2_o tim._n 2._o 26._o to_o instance_n in_o one_o only_a particular_a be_v it_o not_o a_o sad_a thing_n to_o see_v how_o most_o man_n and_o woman_n do_v more_o willing_o and_o cheerful_o serve_v the_o devil_n every_o hour_n in_o the_o day_n then_o they_o will_v serve_v god_n one_o day_n in_o the_o week_n yea_o and_o in_o that_o day_n i_o mean_v the_o sabbath_n day_n which_o god_n have_v set_v apart_o for_o his_o own_o public_a worship_n if_o we_o shall_v consider_v how_o few_o will_v afford_v he_o their_o presence_n for_o one_o hour_n and_o how_o many_o of_o those_o few_o do_v employ_v that_o hour_n in_o wander_a thought_n or_o worse_a behaviour_n rather_o than_o in_o sincere_a and_o pure_a devotion_n very_o we_o shall_v find_v that_o of_o the_o apostle_n to_o be_v too_o too_o true_a that_o even_o the_o whole_a world_n live_v in_o wickedness_n 1_o john_n 5._o 19_o lie_v in_o wickedness_n not_o so_o much_o as_o attempt_v to_o stir_v out_o of_o it_o on_o to_o strive_v against_o it_o and_o be_v not_o this_o to_o serve_v god_n despiteful_o and_o the_o devil_n obsequious_o indeed_o this_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o present_a peace_n but_o it_o be_v very_o dishonourable_a and_o no_o less_o dangerous_a to_o hold_v the_o devil_n in_o friendship_n and_o god_n at_o defiance_n for_o while_o we_o do_v thus_o promise_v unto_o ourselves_o comfort_n and_o security_n by_o side_v with_o satan_n and_o comply_v with_o our_o own_o corcuption_n we_o do_v betray_v our_o most_o hopeful_a expectation_n to_o all_o manner_n of_o temporal_a distraction_n and_o our_o poor_a soul_n to_o eternal_a destruction_n according_a to_o that_o of_o the_o lord_n by_o this_o prophet_n isaiah_n because_o you_o have_v say_v we_o have_v make_v a_o covenant_n with_o death_n and_o with_o hell_n be_v we_o at_o agreement_n when_o the_o overflow_a scourge_n shall_v pass_v through_o it_o shall_v not_o come_v unto_o we_o for_o we_o have_v make_v lie_v our_o refuge_n altogether_o free_a from_o danger_n and_o likewise_o he_o that_o conceive_v not_o his_o danger_n to_o be_v so_o great_a as_o in_o truth_n it_o be_v albeit_o he_o have_v not_o so_o much_o peace_n as_o he_o that_o be_v altogether_o ignorant_a yet_o he_o imagine_v that_o his_o danger_n be_v not_o so_o great_a as_o that_o it_o require_v much_o trouble_n or_o travail_v to_o prevent_v or_o avoid_v it_o but_o all_o the_o sinner_n of_o my_o people_n shall_v die_v by_o the_o sword_n which_o say_v the_o evil_n shall_v not_o overtake_v nor_o prevent_v we_o say_v the_o lord_n amos_n 9_o 10._o and_o in_o
