a_o man_n be_v fit_a to_o consult_v and_o deliberate_v of_o thing_n in_o particular_a to_o be_v do_v in_o particular_a case_n of_o conscience_n and_o the_o like_a now_o wisdom_n and_o prudence_n they_o be_v both_o together_o in_o god_n people_n howsoever_o perhaps_o one_o be_v more_o excellent_a than_o another_o some_o be_v wise_a who_o have_v a_o deep_a search_n of_o truth_n in_o general_a and_o some_o be_v more_o prudent_a in_o their_o way_n that_o be_v weak_a christian_n for_o the_o main_a general_a truth_n yet_o there_o be_v not_o a_o good_a christian_n but_o he_o have_v so_o much_o prudence_n as_o will_v bring_v he_o to_o heaven_n but_o god_n give_v extraordinary_a wisdom_n to_o some_o because_o they_o be_v leader_n of_o other_o yet_o though_o in_o god_n dispensation_n there_o be_v a_o difference_n yet_o in_o every_o christian_a they_o be_v join_v together_o there_o be_v no_o christian_a but_o he_o be_v wise_a for_o himself_o which_o be_v prudence_n this_o be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o salt_n which_o season_v all_o other_o grace_n and_o knowledge_n whatsoever_o for_o what_o be_v knowledge_n without_o discretion_n but_o a_o foolish_a humour_n what_o be_v patience_n but_o blockishness_n if_o a_o man_n do_v not_o discern_v how_o why_o and_o upon_o what_o ground_n to_o be_v patient_a what_o be_v religiousnesse_n without_o this_o but_o superstition_n and_o what_o be_v wisdom_n and_o prudence_n we_o will_v not_o insist_v long_o on_o they_o only_o we_o will_v draw_v towards_o a_o right_n discern_v of_o they_o square_v and_o proportion_v to_o our_o understanding_n by_o resemblance_n of_o other_o thing_n for_o a_o man_n may_v know_v what_o they_o be_v in_o divine_a thing_n by_o some_o proportion_n to_o humane_a thing_n what_o they_o be_v there_o as_o to_o give_v a_o little_a light_n to_o it_o wisdom_n sign_n of_o worldly_a wisdom_n he_o be_v a_o wise_a prudent_a man_n in_o the_o world_n that_o will_v be_v sure_a to_o make_v the_o great_a his_o friend_n so_o god_n be_v the_o great_a of_o all_o and_o most_o able_a to_o do_v we_o good_a he_o be_v a_o wise_a and_o prudent_a man_n that_o make_v he_o his_o friend_n and_o care_v not_o who_o he_o break_v with_o so_o he_o break_v not_o with_o god_n and_o we_o account_v he_o also_o a_o wise_a and_o prudent_a man_n in_o the_o world_n that_o like_o the_o wise_a steward_n in_o the_o gospel_n provide_v for_o the_o thing_n shadow_n &_o substance_n reality_n and_o appearance_n of_o thing_n and_o suitable_o choose_v eternal_o before_o temporal_n the_o favour_n of_o god_n before_o the_o favour_n of_o man_n and_o in_o a_o word_n those_o thing_n which_o concern_v everlasting_a happiness_n before_o those_o that_o be_v perish_v wisdom_n be_v see_v in_o choice_n by_o these_o few_o instance_n name_v we_o may_v see_v what_o heavenly_a wisdom_n and_o prudence_n be_v by_o proportion_n of_o wisdom_n and_o prudence_n in_o earthly_a thing_n now_o consider_v that_o there_o be_v a_o better_a state_n in_o another_o world_n then_o in_o this_o he_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o wise_a man_n that_o order_n thing_n so_o as_o that_o he_o may_v not_o loose_a eternity_n most_o man_n in_o the_o world_n be_v penny-wise_a and_o pound_n foolish_a as_o we_o say_v wise_a to_o a_o particular_a end_n to_o get_v particular_a favour_n and_o riches_n 32.29_o deut._n 32.29_o so_o to_o satisfy_v their_o intention_n but_o for_o the_o main_a which_o be_v wisdom_n indeed_o to_o look_v to_o their_o last_o estate_n and_o happiness_n and_o to_o fit_v their_o action_n and_o course_n that_o way_n how_o few_o be_v wise_a to_o purpose_n how_o few_o provide_v for_o eternity_n therefore_o no_o marvel_n the_o prophet_n say_v who_o be_v wise_a and_o who_o be_v prudent_a because_o man_n live_v by_o sense_n and_o not_o by_o faith_n who_o be_v wise_a and_o he_o shall_v understand_v these_o thing_n prudent_a and_o he_o shall_v know_v they_o observe_v now_o the_o next_o thing_n to_o be_v observe_v hence_o be_v this_o that_o the_o wise_a and_o prudent_a only_o know_v these_o thing_n there_o must_v be_v wisdom_n and_o prudence_n before_o we_o can_v know_v divine_a truth_n and_o make_v use_n of_o they_o observe_v and_o then_o observe_v further_o that_o true_a wisdom_n and_o prudence_n carry_v man_n to_o god_n word_n who_o be_v wise_a to_o understand_v
these_o thing_n by_o divine_a truth_n we_o grow_v wise_a and_o prudent_a the_o spirit_n join_v with_o the_o same_o and_o then_o we_o come_v to_o make_v a_o right_a use_n of_o they_o there_o must_v be_v first_o a_o spiritual_a wisdom_n and_o prudence_n enlighten_v by_o the_o spirit_n ere_o we_o can_v make_v use_n of_o the_o word_n aright_o to_o taste_v and_o relish_v it_o because_o though_o the_o word_n be_v light_a yet_o light_v alone_o be_v not_o sufficient_a to_o cause_v sight_n but_o there_o must_v concur_v unto_o the_o outward_a light_n a_o inward_a sight_n grace_n must_v illuminate_v the_o understanding_n and_o put_v a_o heavenly_a light_n into_o the_o soul_n as_o by_o the_o light_n within_o meet_v with_o the_o light_n without_o the_o eye_n be_v the_o instrument_n of_o sight_n apply_v itself_o to_o the_o thing_n thence_o come_v sight_n so_o there_o be_v divine_a truth_n out_o of_o we_o wherewith_o when_o the_o holy_a ghost_n put_v a_o inward_a light_n into_o the_o soul_n sanctify_a wisdom_n and_o prudence_n than_o the_o inward_a light_a meeting_n with_o the_o light_n without_o we_o see_v and_o apprehend_v the_o spirit_n therefore_o must_v join_v to_o work_v wisdom_n and_o prudence_n natural_o we_o be_v all_o dead_a and_o have_v lose_v our_o spiritual_a sense_n therefore_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n must_v work_v in_o we_o spiritual_a sense_n sight_n and_o taste_v that_o we_o may_v see_v discern_v and_o relish_v heavenly_a thing_n which_o ere_o we_o can_v do_v there_o must_v be_v a_o harmony_n betwixt_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v the_o soul_n must_v be_v make_v spiritual_a answerable_a to_o the_o heavenly_a thing_n pitch_v upon_o or_o else_o if_o the_o soul_n be_v not_o set_v in_o a_o suitable_a frame_n it_o can_v never_o make_v a_o right_a use_n of_o they_o now_o when_o the_o understanding_n of_o a_o man_n be_v make_v wise_a by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n it_o will_v relish_v wisdom_n and_o prudence_n for_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n together_o with_o the_o scripture_n take_v the_o scale_n off_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o soul_n subdue_v rebellious_a passion_n in_o the_o affection_n especial_o that_o rebellion_n of_o the_o will_n put_v a_o new_a relish_n in_o all_o so_o as_o they_o come_v to_o love_v affect_v and_o joy_n in_o heavenly_a thing_n now_o when_o these_o scale_n of_o spiritual_a blindness_n be_v fall_v off_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o when_o rebellion_n be_v remoove_v from_o the_o will_n and_o affection_n than_o it_o be_v fit_a to_o join_v and_o approve_v of_o heavenly_a thing_n else_o there_o be_v a_o contrariety_n and_o antipathy_n betwixt_o the_o soul_n and_o these_o thing_n as_o the_o body_n when_o the_o tongue_n be_v affect_v with_o some_o aguish_a humour_n can_v relish_v thing_n though_o they_o be_v never_o so_o good_a but_o affect_v and_o relish_v all_o thing_n suit_v that_o distemper_n so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o soul_n when_o it_o be_v not_o enlighten_v it_o judge_v all_o thing_n carnal_o there_o be_v a_o antipathy_n between_o the_o soul_n and_o divine_a truth_n bring_v home_o unto_o it_o perhaps_o a_o soul_n not_o enlighten_v or_o sanctify_v will_v apprehend_v the_o generallity_n of_o truth_n very_o well_o but_o when_o they_o be_v press_v home_o to_o practice_v then_o unless_o the_o soul_n be_v change_v it_o will_v rise_v up_o and_o swell_v against_o divine_a truth_n and_o reject_v the_o practice_n of_o they_o without_o subdue_a grace_n to_o alter_v and_o change_v the_o soul_n the_o affection_n thereof_o be_v like_o the_o march_n sun_n which_o stir_v up_o a_o great_a many_o humour_n but_o not_o spend_v they_o they_o breed_v aguish_a humour_n and_o distemper_n so_o the_o light_n of_o the_o word_n in_o a_o carnal_a heart_n it_o meet_v with_o the_o humour_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o stir_v they_o but_o if_o there_o be_v not_o grace_n in_o the_o soul_n to_o subdue_v these_o affection_n it_o stir_v they_o up_o to_o be_v the_o more_o malicious_a especial_o if_o they_o be_v press_v to_o particular_a duty_n in_o leave_v of_o sinful_a course_n so_o that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n must_v alter_v the_o understanding_n and_o subdue_v the_o will_n and_o affection_n ere_o there_o can_v be_v a_o conceive_n of_o divine_a truth_n save_o therefore_o before_o these_o act_n he_o join_v these_o grace_n who_o be_v wise_a and_o who_o be_v prudent_a etc._n etc._n use_v the_o use_n hereof_o be_v this_o much_o not_o to_o come_v to_o the_o divine_a truth_n of_o god_n with_o humane_a affection_n and_o spirit_n but_o to_o lift_v up_o our_o heart_n to_o god_n why_o lord_n as_o thing_n themselves_o be_v spiritual_a so_o make_v i_o spiritual_a that_o there_o may_v be_v a_o harmony_n between_o my_o soul_n and_o the_o thing_n that_o as_o there_o be_v a_o sweet_a relish_n in_o divine_a truth_n so_o there_o may_v be_v a_o sweet_a taste_n in_o i_o to_o answer_v that_o relish_n which_o be_v in_o divine_a truth_n that_o the_o wisdom_n of_o thy_o word_n and_o my_o wisdom_n may_v be_v one_o than_o a_o man_n be_v wise_a there_o be_v not_o the_o common_a truth_n or_o practical_a point_n in_o divinity_n but_o it_o be_v a_o mystery_n and_o must_v be_v divine_o understand_v and_o must_v have_v prudence_n to_o go_v about_o it_o as_o we_o shall_v do_v repentance_n and_o the_o knowledge_n of_o sin_n it_o be_v a_o mystery_n till_o a_o man_n be_v sanctify_v in_o his_o understanding_n he_o can_v never_o know_v what_o spiritual_a misery_n be_v till_o the_o inward_a man_n be_v enlighten_v and_o sanctify_v to_o know_v what_o a_o contrariety_n there_o be_v between_o sin_n and_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n as_o no_o man_n can_v know_v thorough_o what_o sickness_n be_v but_o he_o that_o have_v be_v sick_a for_o the_o physician_n do_v not_o know_v sickness_n so_o well_o as_o the_o patient_a who_o feel_v it_o so_o it_o be_v with_o a_o holy_a man_n sanctify_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n tell_v he_o of_o sin_n he_o feel_v it_o and_o the_o noisomenesse_n of_o it_o the_o opposition_n of_o it_o to_o his_o comfort_n and_o communion_n with_o god_n only_o the_o spiritual_a enlighten_v man_n can_v tell_v what_o repentance_n sin_n sorrow_n for_o sin_n and_o the_o spiritual_a health_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v therefore_o it_o be_v say_v here_o who_o be_v wise_a and_o who_o be_v prudent_a and_o he_o shall_v salvation_n but_o truth_n god_n do_v assign_v we_o a_o measure_n of_o grace_n according_a to_o his_o good_a pleasure_n and_o according_a as_o he_o have_v purpose_v to_o make_v we_o profitable_a to_o other_o in_o the_o use_n of_o mean_n those_o who_o he_o mean_v to_o use_v for_o suffering_n or_o do_v of_o great_a matter_n in_o the_o church_n those_o he_o fit_v suitable_o for_o that_o he_o mean_v to_o call_v they_o to_o other_o have_v not_o that_o abundance_n of_o grace_n out_o of_o god_n wisdom_n who_o know_v best_a how_o to_o dispense_v his_o own_o grace_n to_o his_o own_o glory_n if_o we_o allow_v not_o ourselves_o in_o our_o weakness_n but_o groan_n under_o they_o hate_v they_o and_o strive_v against_o they_o reach_v towards_o perfection_n in_o this_o case_n our_o weakness_n shall_v
