thing_n be_v food_n that_o perish_v for_o as_o the_o frame_n of_o nature_n and_o the_o civil_a frame_n of_o the_o world_n must_v have_v a_o end_n and_o perish_v so_o the_o knowledge_n of_o natural_a and_o civil_a thing_n must_v needs_o be_v perish_v also_o and_o to_o say_v no_o more_o the_o very_a knowledge_n the_o speculative_a and_o contemplative_a knowledge_n of_o religious_a thing_n if_o we_o have_v only_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o thing_n in_o we_o and_o be_v not_o turn_v into_o the_o thing_n we_o know_v be_v a_o perish_a thing_n the_o truth_n of_o god_n indeed_o be_v the_o food_n of_o the_o soul_n but_o unless_o the_o goodness_n of_o those_o truth_n be_v the_o food_n of_o the_o will_n and_o affection_n unless_o we_o be_v mould_v and_o fashion_v into_o the_o very_a form_n of_o those_o truth_n unless_o we_o be_v frame_v to_o a_o love_n and_o like_n of_o that_o which_o we_o know_v that_o those_o truth_n be_v root_v and_o plant_v in_o we_o it_o be_v food_n that_o perish_v in_o a_o religious_a discourse_n in_o preach_v all_o your_o ornament_n beside_o that_o which_o quicken_v and_o strengthen_v the_o soul_n to_o holy_a duty_n be_v food_n that_o perish_v and_o your_o hear_n thing_n be_v food_n that_o perish_v and_o we_o perish_v in_o the_o use_n of_o they_o the_o world_n pass_v away_o and_o the_o concupiscence_n of_o it_o the_o world_n the_o thing_n lust_v after_o perish_v and_o in_o lust_a after_o the_o world_n the_o lust_n perish_v and_o we_o perish_v to_o in_o the_o pursuit_n of_o they_o nay_o which_o be_v worse_o the_o immoderate_a seek_v after_o these_o thing_n destroy_v we_o we_o eternal_o perish_v for_o by_o place_v our_o affection_n on_o earthly_a thing_n we_o turn_v earthly_a therefore_o in_o divinity_n we_o have_v our_o denomination_n from_o a_o faithful_a say_n it_o be_v a_o true_a say_n that_o christ_n come_v to_o save_v sinner_n and_o it_o be_v a_o faithful_a a_o good_a say_n if_o it_o be_v not_o good_a as_o well_o as_o true_a truth_n do_v not_o draw_v to_o practise_v as_o it_o be_v truth_n but_o as_o it_o be_v good_a as_o it_o must_v be_v truth_n and_o a_o good_a truth_n so_o it_o must_v be_v good_a for_o i_o as_o the_o holy_a man_n say_v here_o it_o be_v good_a for_o i_o etc._n etc._n a_o thing_n may_v be_v good_a for_o another_o man_n the_o devil_n know_v what_o be_v good_a and_o that_o make_v he_o envy_v poor_a christian_n so_o wicked_a man_n know_v that_o which_o be_v good_a when_o they_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n but_o for_o they_o it_o be_v better_a to_o keep_v in_o the_o contrary_a so_o that_o we_o must_v know_v it_o be_v a_o truth_n and_o a_o good_a truth_n and_o good_a for_o we_o in_o particular_a that_o it_o be_v best_o for_o we_o to_o do_v so_o the_o four_o be_v this_o though_o it_o merciful_a and_o christ_n be_v a_o saviour_n it_o be_v true_a but_o what_o have_v he_o wrought_v in_o thou_o by_o his_o spirit_n have_v thou_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n or_o else_o thou_o be_v none_o of_o he_o roman_n 8._o where_o ever_o christ_n be_v he_o go_v with_o his_o spirit_n to_o teach_v we_o to_o apply_v what_o christ_n have_v do_v for_o we_o and_o to_o fit_v we_o to_o be_v like_o he_o therefore_o let_v those_o that_o live_v in_o any_o sin_n against_o conscience_n think_v it_o a_o diabolical_a illusion_n to_o think_v god_n and_o christ_n be_v merciful_a i_o but_o where_o be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n all_o the_o hope_n thou_o have_v be_v only_o that_o thou_o be_v not_o in_o hell_n as_o yet_o for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v but_o for_o the_o present_a i_o dare_v our_o heart_n to_o do_v that_o that_o he_o do_v to_o know_v his_o will_n as_o a_o prophet_n to_o rule_v in_o we_o as_o a_o king_n and_o to_o stir_v up_o prayer_n in_o we_o as_o a_o priest_n to_o do_v in_o some_o proportion_n that_o that_o he_o do_v though_o it_o be_v in_o never_o so_o little_a a_o measure_n for_o we_o receive_v it_o in_o measure_n but_o christ_n beyond_o measure_n we_o must_v labour_v for_o so_o much_o as_o may_v manifest_v to_o we_o the_o truth_n of_o our_o estate_n in_o christ_n that_o we_o be_v not_o dead_a but_o live_a branch_n ascension_n now_o christ_n give_v and_o convey_v his_o spirit_n especial_o and_o most_o of_o all_o since_o his_o ascension_n and_o sit_v at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o god_n for_o after_o his_o resurrection_n he_o declare_v his_o victory_n over_o all_o his_o enemy_n and_o therefore_o be_v able_a to_o give_v the_o spirit_n without_o opposition_n and_o upon_o his_o resurrection_n death_n and_o hell_n and_o the_o anger_n of_o god_n be_v overcome_v and_o our_o sin_n be_v satisfy_v for_o now_o christ_n be_v head_n indeed_o have_v tread_v all_o his_o enemy_n under_o his_o foot_n now_o he_o be_v enable_v to_o give_v the_o spirit_n but_o upon_o his_o ascension_n into_o heaven_n and_o his_o sit_v there_o he_o be_v more_o enable_v for_o even_o as_o the_o sun_n be_v so_o high_a above_o the_o earth_n do_v convey_v his_o light_n and_o heat_n and_o influence_n upon_o the_o inferior_a body_n so_o christ_n be_v so_o high_o advance_v be_v fit_a to_o infuse_v his_o spirit_n and_o grace_n here_o below_o since_o his_o exaltation_n therefore_o the_o church_n be_v full_a of_o grace_n and_o grace_n have_v be_v more_o spread_v and_o diffuse_v since_o the_o ascension_n of_o christ_n then_o before_o and_o the_o evangelist_n give_v it_o as_o a_o reason_n the_o spirit_n be_v not_o yet_o give_v because_o christ_n be_v not_o ascend_v intimate_v that_o after_o his_o ascension_n there_o be_v a_o more_o full_a portion_n of_o the_o spirit_n give_v god_n be_v full_o appease_v by_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n and_o christ_n stay_v the_o advantage_n that_o be_v fit_a to_o give_v the_o spirit_n now_o god_n the_o father_n give_v his_o exaltation_n show_v that_o then_o they_o shall_v be_v fill_v with_o the_o spirit_n that_o the_o spirit_n shall_v be_v pour_v out_o upon_o all_o flesh_n more_o abundant_o than_o before_o and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o the_o apostle_n so_o differ_v from_o themselves_o before_o and_o after_o christ_n ascension_n what_o a_o wondrous_a alteration_n be_v there_o peter_n before_o he_o courageous_a and_o undaunted_a at_o one_o time_n then_o another_o and_o this_o abundance_n of_o the_o spirit_n come_v especial_o since_o christ_n advancement_n but_o how_o or_o by_o what_o mean_n do_v christ_n give_v his_o spirit_n to_o we_o spirit_n this_o spirit_n that_o be_v so_o necessary_a for_o we_o 3.2_o it_o be_v give_v by_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o be_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o spirit_n receive_v you_o the_o holy_a ghost_n by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n or_o by_o the_o hear_n of_o faith_n preach_v when_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o the_o benefit_n by_o christ_n be_v lay_v open_a in_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o we_o god_n give_v his_o holy_a spirit_n the_o spirit_n of_o christ._n now_o god_n in_o christ_n will_v save_v we_o by_o a_o triumphant_a and_o abundant_a love_n and_o mercy_n and_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n never_o go_v but_o where_o there_o be_v a_o magnify_v of_o the_o love_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n therefore_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o only_o discover_v the_o amity_n and_o love_n of_o god_n to_o mankind_n be_v now_o reconcile_v in_o christ_n it_o be_v accompany_v with_o the_o spirit_n to_o assure_v we_o of_o our_o part_n and_o portion_n in_o those_o benefit_n for_o the_o spirit_n be_v the_o fruit_n of_o god_n love_n as_o well_o as_o christ_n christ_n be_v the_o first_o gift_n and_o the_o spirit_n be_v the_o second_o therefore_o that_o part_n of_o the_o word_n that_o discover_v god_n exceed_v love_n to_o mankind_n leave_v angel_n when_o they_o be_v fall_v in_o their_o curse_a estate_n and_o yet_o give_v his_o son_n to_o become_v man_n and_o a_o curse_n for_o we_o the_o discovery_n of_o this_o love_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n and_o of_o his_o son_n christ_n to_o we_o be_v join_v with_o the_o spirit_n for_o by_o the_o spirit_n we_o see_v our_o curse_a estate_n without_o the_o love_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o likewise_o we_o be_v convince_v of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o thereupon_o we_o love_v god_n again_o and_o trust_v to_o his_o mercy_n and_o out_o of_o love_n to_o he_o perform_v all_o cheerful_a obedience_n whatsoever_o we_o do_v else_o if_o it_o be_v not_o stir_v by_o the_o spirit_n apprehend_v the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n it_o be_v but_o morality_n a_o man_n shall_v never_o go_v to_o heaven_n but_o by_o such_o a_o disposition_n and_o frame_v and_o temper_n of_o soul_n as_o be_v wrought_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n
but_o they_o either_o resist_v they_o or_o quench_v they_o and_o wrong_v and_o grieve_v the_o spirit_n as_o saint_n paul_n say_v grieve_v not_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n whereby_o you_o be_v seal_v the_o beg_n and_o get_v luke_n 11.13_o how_o much_o more_o shall_v your_o heavenly_a father_n give_v his_o holy_a spirit_n to_o they_o that_o ask_v he_o insinuate_v that_o we_o can_v ask_v nothing_o corruption_n that_o we_o may_v not_o be_v lead_v by_o our_o own_o lust_n and_o so_o consequent_o by_o satan_n that_o lead_v we_o by_o our_o own_o lust_n in_o the_o way_n that_o lead_v to_o perdition_n so_o much_o for_o that_o i_o will_v put_v my_o spirit_n etc._n etc._n and_o he_o shall_v show_v judgement_n to_o the_o gentile_n after_o christ_n be_v full_o furnish_v as_o he_o be_v furnish_v with_o the_o inward_a man_n to_o the_o obedience_n of_o this_o his_o judgement_n christ_n then_o by_o himself_o and_o his_o apostle_n and_o minister_n shall_v declare_v his_o truth_n which_o be_v the_o sceptre_n of_o his_o government_n to_o the_o gentile_n and_o not_o only_o declare_v it_o as_o prince_n do_v their_o law_n by_o proclamation_n and_o statute_n etc._n etc._n but_o he_o shall_v declare_v it_o to_o the_o heart_n by_o his_o spirit_n now_o in_o the_o hebrew_n language_n ordinary_o wise_a government_n be_v call_v judgement_n he_o shall_v declare_v judgement_n that_o be_v his_o manner_n of_o government_n he_o shall_v declare_v it_o by_o his_o spirit_n and_o cause_v our_o spirit_n to_o submit_v to_o it_o and_o indeed_o grace_n be_v call_v judgement_n in_o the_o phrase_n of_o scripture_n the_o grace_n of_o sanctification_n because_o it_o be_v agreeable_a to_o judgement_n to_o god_n law_n it_o be_v agreeable_a to_o it_o and_o wrought_v by_o it_o in_o the_o soul_n and_o it_o be_v the_o best_a judgement_n for_o grace_v whereby_o the_o soul_n be_v subject_a to_o the_o judgement_n and_o law_n and_o rule_v of_o god_n it_o must_v needs_o be_v the_o best_a judgement_n because_o god_n call_v judgement_n judgement_n it_o be_v call_v so_o frequent_o in_o the_o psalm_n and_o in_o other_o place_n of_o scripture_n because_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n show_v what_o god_n do_v judge_v judgement_n be_v original_o in_o god_n who_o be_v the_o first_o truth_n and_o the_o first_o good_a the_o first_o truth_n judge_v best_a of_o truth_n what_o be_v light_n and_o what_o be_v darkness_n what_o be_v truth_n and_o what_o be_v error_n what_o be_v good_a and_o what_o be_v ill_a what_o be_v safe_a and_o what_o be_v dangerous_a all_o will_v grant_v that_o god_n be_v the_o first_o light_n and_o the_o firâ—t_o truth_n therefore_o he_o do_v original_o judge_v of_o the_o difference_n of_o thing_n for_o even_o as_o in_o the_o creation_n he_o put_v a_o eternal_a difference_n between_o judge_v of_o thing_n law_n show_n judgement_n what_o be_v to_o be_v do_v and_o what_o be_v not_o to_o be_v do_v the_o gospel_n show_v god_n judgement_n what_o he_o will_v have_v we_o believe_v and_o hope_v for_o and_o how_o we_o must_v carry_v ourselves_o in_o way_n of_o thankefullness_n if_o we_o do_v this_o than_o the_o gospel_n the_o word_n of_o god_n judge_v what_o shall_v become_v of_o we_o we_o shall_v be_v save_v if_o we_o do_v the_o contrary_a the_o word_n again_o judge_v what_o our_o state_n shall_v be_v we_o shall_v be_v damn_v so_o it_o be_v call_v judgement_n because_o it_o judge_v what_o be_v good_a and_o what_o be_v ill_a and_o because_o it_o determine_v what_o shall_v become_v of_o we_o if_o we_o obey_v or_o disobey_v hereupon_o it_o be_v that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v a_o glass_n wherein_o we_o may_v see_v our_o own_o condition_n infallible_o what_o will_v become_v of_o we_o the_o word_n of_o god_n judge_v thus_o he_o that_o live_v in_o such_o and_o know_v how_o to_o judge_v of_o ourselves_o even_o as_o god_n judge_v in_o his_o word_n we_o may_v see_v our_o own_o face_n and_o condition_n there_o he_o that_o be_v a_o man_n of_o death_n may_v see_v it_o in_o the_o word_n and_o he_o that_o be_v appoint_v for_o happiness_n may_v there_o see_v his_o condition_n again_o judgement_n not_o only_o the_o word_n of_o god_n the_o gospel_n which_o be_v out_o of_o we_o in_o the_o book_n of_o god_n be_v call_v judgement_n but_o the_o work_n of_o god_n in_o the_o soul_n sanctification_n be_v call_v judgement_n hence_o we_o may_v observe_v what_o be_v the_o most_o judicious_a course_n in_o the_o world_n the_o most_o judicious_a frame_n of_o soul_n when_o it_o be_v frame_v to_o the_o judgement_n and_o truth_n of_o god_n be_v the_o first_o truth_n when_o a_o man_n be_v sanctify_v and_o set_v in_o a_o holy_a frame_n it_o be_v from_o a_o sanctify_a judgement_n the_o flesh_n be_v subject_a to_o the_o spirit_n here_o be_v all_o in_o a_o gracious_a
office_n in_o such_o pomp_n and_o noise_n as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o agrippa_n acts._n 25.23_o he_o come_v with_o great_a pomp_n so_o worldly_a prince_n carry_v thing_n thus_o and_o it_o be_v needful_a
