all Your Majesties loyal and religious people unto You that Your very name is precious among them their eye doth behold You with comfort and they bless You in their hearts as that sanctified Person who under God is the immediate Authour of their true happiness And this their contentment doth not diminish or decay but every day increaseth and taketh strength when they observe that the zeal of XXVI 1 A song inciting to confidence in God 5 for his judgements 12 and for his favour to his people 20 An exhortation to wait on God IN that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah We have a strong câ—tâ—â— salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks 2 Open ye the gates that the righteous nation which keepeth the †Heb. truths truth may enter in 3 Thou wilt keep him in †Heb. peace peace perfect peace whose ‖ Or thought or imagination minde is stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee 4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever for in the LORD JEHOVAH is †Heb. the rock of ages everlasting strength 5 ¶ For he bringeth down them that dwell on high the lofty city he layeth it low he layeth it low even to the ground he bringeth it even to the dust 6 The foot shall tread it down even the feet of the poor and the steps of the needy 7 The way of the just is uprightness thou most upright dost weigh the path of the just 8 Yea in the way of thy judgements O LORD have we waited for thee the desire of our soul is to thy name and to the remembrance of thee 9 With my soul have I desired thee in the night yea with my spirit within me will I seek thee early for when thy judgements are in the earth the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness 10 Let favour be shewed to the wicked yet will he not learn righteousness in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly and will not behold the majesty of the LORD 11 LORD when thy hand is lifted up they will not see but they shall see and be ashamed for their envy ‖ Or towards thy people at the people yea the fire of thine enemies shall devour them 12 ¶ LORD thou wilt ordain peace for us for thou also hast wrought all our works ‖ Or for us in us 13 O LORD our God other lords besides thee have had dominion over us but by thee onely will we make mention of thy name 14 They are dead they shall not live they are deceased they shall not rise therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them and made all their memory to perish 15 Thou hast increased the nation O LORD thou hast increased the nation thou art glorified thou hadst removed it far unto all the ends of the earth 16 LORD in trouble have they visited thee they poured out a †Heb. secret speech prayer when thy chastening was upon them 17 Like as a woman with childe that draweth near the time of her delivery is in pain and crieth out in her pangs so have we been in thy sight O LORD 18 We have been with childe we have been in pain we have as it were brought forth wind we have not wrought any deliverance in the earth neither have the inhabitants of the world â—aln 19 Thy dead men shall live together with my dead body shall they arise awake and sing ye that dwell in dust for thy dew is as the dew of herbs and the earth shall cast out the dead 20 ¶ Come my people enter thou into thy chambers and shut thy doors about thee hide thy self as it were
last things high things which the most High will do unto them that dwell upon earth in the last days So I slept that night and another like as he commanded me CHAP. XI 1 He seeth in his dream an eagle coming out of the sea 37 and a lion out of a wood talking to the eagle THen saw I a dream and behold there came up from the sea an eagle which had twelve feathered wings and three heads 2 And I saw and behold she spread her wings over all the earth and all the winds of the air blew on her and were gathered together 3 And I beheld and out of her feathers there grew other contrary feathers and they became little feathers and small 4 But her heads were at rest the head in the midst was greater then the other yet rested †Lat. sa it with the residue 5 Moreover I beheld and so the eagle flew with her feathers and reigned upon earth and over them that dwelt therein 6 And I saw that all things under heaven were subject unto her and no man spake against her no not one creature upon earth 7 And I beheld and so the eagle rose upon her talons and spake to her feathers saying 8 Watch not all at once sleep every one in his own place and watch by course 9 But set the heads be preserved for the last 10 And I beheld and so the voice went not out of her heads but from the midst of her body 11 And I numbred her contrary feathers and behold there were eight of them 12 And I looked and behold on the right side there arose one feather and reigned over all the earth 13 And so it was that when it reigned the end of it came and the place thereof appeared no more so the next following stood up and reigned and had a great time 14 And it hapned that when it reigned the end of it came also like as the first so that it appeared no more 15 Then came there a voice unto it and said 16 Hear thou that hast born rule over the earth so long this I say unto thee before thou beginnest to appear no more 17 There shall none after thee attain unto thy time neither unto the half thereof 18 Then arose the third and reigned as the other before and appeared no more also 19 So went it with all the residue one after another as that every one reigned and then appeared no more 20 Then I beheld and so in process of time the feathers that followed stood up upon the right side that they might rule also and some of them ruled but within a whise they appeared no more 21 For some of them were set up but ruled not 22 After this I looked and behold the twelve feathers appeared no more nor the two little feathers 23 And there was no more upon the eagles body but three heads that rested and six little wings 24 Then saw I also that two little feathers divided themselves from the six and remained under the head that was upon the right side for the four continued in their place 25 And I beheld and so the feathers that were under the wing thought to set up themselves and to have the rule 26 And I beheld and so there was one set up but shortly it appeared no more 27 And the second was sooner away then the first 28 And I beheld and so the two that remained thought also in themselves to reign 29 And when they so thought behold there awaked one of the heads that were at rest namely it that was in the midst for that was greater then the two other heads 30 And then I saw that the two other heads were joyned with it 31 And behold the head was turned with them that were with it and did eat up the two feathers under the wing that would have reigned 32 But this head put the whole earth in fear and bare rule in it over all those that dwelt upon the earth with much oppression and it had the governance of the world more then all the wings that had been 33 And after this I beheld and so the head that was in the midst suddenly appeared no more like as the wings 34 But there remained the two heads which also in like sort ruled upon the earth and over those that dwelt therein 35 And I beheld and so the head upon the right side devoured it that was upon the left side 36 Then I heard a voice which said unto me Look before thee and consider the thing that thou seest 37 And I beheld and so as it were a roaring lion chased out of the wood and I saw that he sent out a mans voice unto the eagle and said 38 Hear thou I will talk with thee and the Highest shall say unto thee 39 Art not thou it that remainest of the four beasts whom I made to reign in my world that the end of their times might come through them 40 And the fourth came and over came all the beasts that were past and had power over the world with great fearfulness and over the whole compass of the earth with much wicked oppression and so long time dwelt he upon the earth with deceit 41 For the earth hast thou not judged with truth 42 For thou hast afflicted the meek thou hast hurt the peaceable thou hast loved liars and destroyed the dwellings of them that brought forth fruit and hast cast down the walls of such as did thee no harm 43 Therefore is thy wrongful dealing come up unto the Highest and thy pride unto the Mighty 44 The Highest also hath looked upon the proud times and behold they are ended and his abominations are fulfilled 45 And therefore appear no more thou eagle nor thy horrible wings nor thy wicked feathers nor thy malicious heads nor thy hurtful claws nor all thy vain body 46 That all the earth may be refreshed and may return being delivered from thy violence and that she may hope for the judgment and mercy of him that made her CHAP. XII 1 The eacle which be saw is destroyed 10 The vision is interpreted 37 He is bid to write his visions 39 and to fast that he may see more 46 He doth comfort those that were grieved for his absence ANd it came to pass whiles the lion spake these words unto the eagle I saw 2 And behold the head that remained and the four wings appeared no more and the two went unto it and set themselves up to reign and their kingdom was small and full of uproar 3 And I saw and behold they appeared no more and the whole body of the eagle was burnt so that the earth was in great fear then awaked I out of the trouble and trance of my minde and from great fear and said unto my spirit 4 Lo this hast thou done unto me in that thou searchest out the ways of the Highest 5 Lo yet am I weary in my minde and very weak in

III. 1 Tobit grieved with his wives taunts prayeth 11 Sara reproached by ber fathers maids prayeth also 17 An angel is sent to help them both THen I being grieved did weep and in my sorrow prayed saying 2 O Lord thou art just and all thy works and all thy ways are mercy and truth and thou judgest truly and justly for ever 3 Remember me and look on me punish me not for my sins and ignorances and the sins of my fathers who have sinned before thee 4 For they obeyed not thy commandments wherefore thou hast delivered us * Deut. 28.15 37. for a spoil and unto captivity and unto death and for a proverb of reproach to all the nations among whom we are dispersed 5 And now thy judgements are many and true deal with me according to my sins and my fathers because we have not kept thy commandments neither have walked in truth before thee 6 Now therefore deal with me as seemeth best unto thee and command my spirit to be taken from me that I may be ‖ Or dismissed or delivered dissolved and become earth for it is prositable for me to die rather then to live because I have heard false reproaches and have much sorrow command therefore that I may now be delivered out of this distress and go into the everlasting place turn not thy face away from me 7 It came to pass the same day that in Ecbatane a city of Media Sara the daughter of Raguel was also reproached by her fathers maids 8 Because that she had been married to seven husbands whom Asmodeus the evil spirit had killed before they had lien with her Dost thou not know said they that thou hast strangled thine husbands thou hast had already seven husbands neither wast thou named after any of them 9 Wherefore dost thou beat us for them if they be dead go

IX 1 The man that was born blinde restored to sight 8 He is brought to the Pharisees 13 They are offended at it and excommunicate him 35 but he is received of Jesus and confesseth him 39 Who they are whom Christ enlightneth ANd as Jesus passed by he saw a man which was blinde from his birth 2 And his disciples asked him saying Master who did sin this man or his parents that he was born blinde 3 Jesus answered Neither hath this man sinned nor his parents but that the works of God should be made manifest in him 4 I must work the works of him that sent me while it is day the night cometh when no man can work 5 As long as I am in the world * Chap. 1.9 I am the light of the world 6 When he had thus spoken he spat on the ground and made clay of the spittle and he ‖ Or spread the clay upon the eyes of the blinde man anointed the eyes of the blinde man with the clay 7 And said unto him Go wash in the pool of Siloam which is by interpretation Sent. VII 2 He treateth of marriage 4 shewing it to be a remedy against fornication 10 and that the bond thereof ought not lightly to be dissolved 18 20 Every man must be content with his vocation 25 Virginity wherefore to be embraced 35 And for what respects we may either marry or abstain from marrying NOw concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me It is good for a man not to touch a woman 2 Nevertheless to avoid fornication let every man have his own wife and let every woman have her own husband 3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence and likewise also the wife unto the husband 4 The wife hath not power of her own body but the husband and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body but the wife 5 Defraud you not one the other except it be with consent for a time that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer and come together again that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency 6 But I speak this by permission and not of commandment 7 For I would that all men were even as I my self but every man hath his proper gift of God one after this manner another after that 8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows It is good for them if they abide even as I. 9 But if they cannot contain let them marry for it is better to marry then to burn 10
bread for your food and multiply your seed sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness 11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness which causeth through us thanksgiving to God 12 For the administration of this service not onely supplieth the want of the saints but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God 13 While by the experiment of this ministration they glorifie God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ and for your liberal distribution unto them and unto all men 14 And by their prayer for you which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you 15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift CHAP. X. Against the false apostles who disgraced the weakness of his person and bodily presence he setteth out the spiritual might and authority with which he is armed against all adversary powers 7 assuring them that at his coming he will be found as mighty in word as he is now in writing being absent 12 and withal taxing them for reaching out themselves beyond their compass and vaunting themselves into other mens labours NOw I Paul my self beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ who ‖ Or in outward appearance in presence am base among you but being absent am bold toward you 2 But I beseech you that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence wherewith I think to be bold against some which ‖ Or â—ukon think of us as if we walked according to the flesh 3 For though we walk in the flesh we do not war after the flesh 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty ‖ Or to God through God to the pulling down of strong holds 5 Casting down ‖ Or reasonings imaginations and every high thing that exalteth it self against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled 7 Do ye look on things after the outward appearance if any man trust to himself that he is Christs let him of himself think this again that as he is Christs even so are we Christs 8 For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority which the Lord hath given us for edification and not for your destruction I should not be ashamed 9 That I may not seem as if I would terrifie you by letters 10 For his letters say they are weighty and powerful but his bodily presence is weak and his speech contemptible 11 Let such an one think this that such as we are in word by letters when we are absent such will we be also in deed when we are present 12 For we dare not make our selves of the number or compare our selves with some that commend themselves but they measuring themselves by themselves comparing themselves amongst themselves ‖ Or understand it not are not wise 13 But we will not boast of things without our measure but according to the measure of the ‖ Or line rule which God hath distributed to us a measure to reach even unto you 14 For we stretch not our selves beyond our measure as though we reached not unto you for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ 15 Not boasting of things without our measure that is of other mens labours but having hope when your faith is increased that we shall be ‖ Or magnified in you enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly 16 To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you and not to boast in another mans ‖ Or rule line of things made ready to our hand 17 * Jet 9.24 1 Cor. 1.31 But he that glorieth let him glory in the Lord. 18 For not he that commendeth himself is approved but whom the Lord commendeth CHAP. XI 1 Out of his jealousie over the Corinthians who seemeth to make more account of the false apostles then of him he entreth into a forced commendation of himself 5 of his equality with the chief apostles 7 of his preaching the gospel to them freely and without any their charge 13 shewing that he was not inferiour to those deceitful workers in any legal prerogative 23 and in the service of Christ and in all kinde of sufferings for his ministery far superiour WOuld to God you could bear with me a little in my folly and indeed ‖ Or you do bear with me bear with me 2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousie for I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ 3 But I fear lest by any means as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus whom we have not preached or if ye receive another spirit which ye have not received or another gospel which ye have not accepted ye might well bear with him 5 For I suppose I was not a whit behinde the very chiefest apostes 6 But though I be rude in speech yet not in knowledge but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things 7 Have I committed an offence in abasing my self that you might be exalted because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely 8 I robbed other churches taking wages of them to do you service 9 And when I was present with you and wanted * Chap. 12.13 I was chargeable to no man for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied and in all things I have kept my self from being burdensom unto you and so will I keep my self 10 As the truth of Christ in me †Gr. this boasting shall not be stopped iâ— me no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia 11 Wherefore because I love you not God knoweth 12 But what I do that I will do that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion that wherein they glory they may be found even as we 13 For such are false apostles deceitful workers transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ 14 And no marvel for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness whose end shall be according to their works 16 I say again Let no man think me a fool if otherwise yet as a fool ‖ Or suffer receive me that I may boast my self a little 17 That which I speak I speak it not after the Lord but as it were foolishly in this confidence of boasting 18 Seeing that many glory after the flesh I will glory also 19 For ye suffer fools gladly seeing ye your selves are wise 20 For ye suffer if a man bring you into bondage if a man devour you if
