as_o if_o he_o take_v the_o bible_n in_o which_o the_o letter_n be_v write_v to_o be_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o letter_n for_o he_o make_v the_o bible_n and_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o letter_n to_o be_v one_o and_o the_o same_o thing_n namely_o the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o be_v quick_a and_o powerful_a he_o appear_v to_o be_v a_o stranger_n to_o but_o he_o ask_v whence_o we_o know_v that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v quick_a and_o lively_a answ._n by_o experience_n for_o though_o he_o be_v with_o the_o jew_n in_o the_o unbelief_n have_v never_o the_o true_a sense_n and_o mean_v of_o the_o scripture_n can_v be_v understand_v and_o though_o the_o scripture_n without_o the_o spirit_n be_v a_o dead_a letter_n yet_o be_v open_v explain_v apply_v and_o the_o true_a sense_n of_o they_o give_v by_o the_o spirit_n they_o be_v then_o true_o serviceable_a and_o profitable_a for_o doctrine_n 3.16_o for_o reproof_n for_o correction_n for_o instruction_n in_o righteousness_n and_o may_v be_v so_o use_v by_o they_o that_o be_v lead_v and_o guide_v by_o the_o spirit_n without_o any_o of_o those_o absurdity_n which_o this_o man_n of_o god_n as_o this_o man_n express_o do_v in_o the_o very_a same_o page_n 107_o though_o to_o his_o own_o contradiction_n he_o have_v say_v but_o a_o few_o leave_v before_o pag._n 96._o it_o be_v not_o the_o letter_n but_o the_o sense_n that_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n so_o that_o although_o he_o will_v not_o have_v the_o letter_n to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o the_o sense_n yet_o by_o a_o incomparable_a piece_n of_o ignorance_n and_o self-contradiction_n he_o will_v have_v the_o bible_n or_o book_n to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o if_o the_o book_n wherein_o the_o letter_n it_o write_v be_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o letter_n thus_o all_o his_o great_a bluster_n and_o vapour_n against_o other_o end_v in_o the_o detection_n of_o his_o own_o confusion_n he_o say_v pag._n 112._o to_o look_v for_o more_o revelation_n or_o a_o repetition_n of_o the_o former_a will_v be_v equal_o a_o act_n of_o impudence_n and_o infidelity_n why_o of_o impudence_n and_o infidelity_n he_o reply_v will_v it_o not_o be_v a_o act_n of_o infidelity_n not_o to_o believe_v god_n when_o he_o plain_o tell_v we_o that_o the_o scripture_n themselves_o be_v able_a to_o make_v we_o wise_a unto_o salvation_n through_o faith_n etc._n etc._n and_o to_o furnish_v we_o thorough_o to_o all_o good_a work_n answ._n he_o corrupt_v the_o scripture_n where_o do_v god_n plain_o tell_v he_o that_o the_o scripture_n themselves_o be_v able_a &_o c_o this_o word_n themselves_o he_o put_v in_o of_o his_o own_o head_n and_o yet_o say_v god_n tell_v we_o plain_o that_o the_o scripture_n themselves_o be_v able_a etc._n etc._n wherein_o he_o speak_v untruth_n of_o god_n if_o this_o be_v not_o infidelity_n yet_o it_o look_v as_o like_a impudence_n as_o i_o have_v see_v if_o the_o scripture_n themselves_o be_v able_a to_o make_v wise_a unto_o salvation_n through_o faith_n etc._n etc._n there_o be_v then_o no_o need_n of_o the_o help_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o i_o have_v already_o show_v that_o unless_o the_o spirit_n reveal_v and_o open_v they_o the_o scripture_n themselves_o can_v be_v right_o understand_v and_o he_o himself_o in_o say_v the_o spirit_n do_v help_v they_o to_o understand_v they_o and_o that_o they_o pray_v for_o its_o assistance_n therein_o pag._n 103._o do_v implicit_o acknowledge_v as_o much_o but_o if_o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v teach_v in_o order_n to_o a_o right_a understanding_n of_o the_o scripture_n than_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o the_o scripture_n themselves_o be_v not_o able_a to_o make_v wise_a etc._n have_v show_v that_o the_o apostle_n may_v very_o well_o be_v understand_v in_o this_o without_o the_o least_o contradiction_n to_o any_o of_o these_o scripture_n none_o of_o which_o plead_v for_o a_o any_o in_o this_o life_n have_v get_v a_o absolute_a conquest_n over_o all_o sin_n be_v because_o he_o will_v then_o contradict_v himself_o also_o have_v plain_o say_v 1_o john_n 1.8_o if_o we_o say_v we_o have_v no_o sin_n we_o deceive_v ourselves_o and_o the_o truth_n be_v not_o in_o we_o pag._n 39_o answ._n from_o the_o last_o instance_n in_o the_o word_n of_o james_n it_o be_v evident_a that_o not_o without_o which_o be_v the_o fair_a import_n of_o confess_v the_o spirit_n do_v help_v and_o pray_v for_o its_o assistance_n therein_o what_o else_o then_o i_o pray_v be_v this_o but_o to_o say_v they_o can_v understand_v the_o will_n of_o god_n in_o the_o scripture_n when_o the_o spirit_n reveal_v it_o unto_o they_o but_o not_o otherwise_o for_o if_o they_o can_v understand_v the_o will_n of_o god_n without_o the_o help_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o vain_a do_v they_o invoke_v his_o assistance_n but_o if_o they_o can_v understand_v the_o will_n of_o god_n in_o the_o scripture_n without_o the_o help_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o implore_v his_o assistance_n that_o show_v the_o necessity_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v teach_v and_o if_o the_o spirit_n vouchsafe_v his_o help_n and_o do_v open_a and_o make_v know_v the_o will_n of_o god_n to_o they_o that_o be_v revelation_n how_o egregious_o absurd_a than_o it_o be_v for_o this_o man_n to_o exclaim_v as_o he_o do_v
