thou_o to_o prove_v thou_o and_o to_o teach_v thou_o to_o prize_n jesus_n christ_n so_o much_o the_o more_o it_o may_v be_v god_n let_v we_o loose_v these_o infirmity_n as_o the_o avenger_n of_o blood_n be_v let_v loose_a upon_o the_o man_n slayer_n to_o force_v the_o man_n slayer_n to_o fly_v to_o the_o city_n of_o refuge_n numb_a 35_o so_o these_o infirmity_n be_v let_v loose_a to_o force_v the_o great_a danger_n of_o be_v pluck_v away_o from_o jesus_n christ_n by_o give_v too_o much_o way_n to_o despondency_n satan_n main_a drift_n and_o great_a plot_n be_v to_o drive_v thou_o away_o from_o jesus_n christ_n by_o thy_o infirmity_n he_o labour_v to_o bring_v thou_o to_o despond_v and_o despair_v and_o to_o say_v there_o be_v no_o hope_n for_o thou_o because_o satan_n know_v the_o more_o he_o draw_v thou_o from_o jesus_n christ_n the_o weak_a thou_o will_v be_v thy_o infirmity_n shall_v not_o drive_v thou_o from_o christ_n but_o they_o shall_v drive_v thou_o to_o christ_n to_o improve_v and_o make_v use_n of_o his_o gracious_a disposition_n in_o help_v and_o heal_v thou_o in_o thy_o misery_n and_o distress_n four_o consider_v what_o may_v be_v the_o cause_n of_o thy_o infirmity_n those_o infirmity_n will_v be_v cure_v in_o the_o cause_n for_o example_n if_o thy_o infirmity_n arise_v from_o want_n of_o age_n or_o time_n to_o gather_v strength_n that_o will_v be_v cure_v because_o the_o path_n of_o the_o just_a be_v as_o a_o shine_a light_n that_o shine_v more_o and_o more_o to_o the_o perfect_a day_n prov._n 4.18_o or_o if_o from_o want_n of_o the_o mean_n of_o grace_n or_o because_o the_o mean_n of_o grace_n thou_o enjoy_v be_v not_o such_o as_o other_o enjoy_v the_o lord_n in_o such_o case_n will_v have_v a_o tender_a respect_n to_o thou_o and_o measure_n to_o thou_o not_o according_a to_o what_o thou_o have_v but_o according_a to_o what_o thou_o will_v have_v again_o if_o thy_o infirmity_n arise_v from_o some_o corruption_n that_o be_v not_o discover_v to_o thou_o at_o thy_o first_o conversion_n thou_o must_v then_o pray_v and_o beg_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v discover_v thyself_o to_o thyself_o more_o and_o more_o again_o if_o thou_o have_v forsake_v some_o old_a truth_n of_o god_n and_o be_v grow_v weary_a of_o they_o and_o hankerest_n after_o novelty_n and_o new_a opinion_n then_o return_v from_o thy_o wander_n and_o prize_v solid_a meat_n above_o kickshaw_n beg_v that_o thy_o soul_n may_v taste_v once_o again_o the_o sweetness_n of_o gospel-truth_n in_o a_o word_n what_o ever_o the_o cause_n of_o your_o infirmity_n be_v get_v the_o disease_n heal_v in_o the_o cause_n get_v thy_o heart_n more_o wean_v from_o the_o world_n and_o stir_v up_o thyself_o to_o take_v hold_n of_o god_n remember_v thy_o former_a zeal_n and_o repent_v and_o do_v thy_o first_o work_n and_o this_o be_v the_o way_n to_o get_v thy_o infirmity_n heal_v that_o be_v the_o first_o use_v a_o use_n of_o comfort_n and_o consolation_n the_o second_o short_a of_o heaven_n then_o how_o doleful_a and_o dreadful_a be_v their_o condition_n that_o have_v no_o affection_n to_o nor_o no_o delight_n in_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n that_o have_v no_o purpose_n of_o new_a and_o better_a obedience_n but_o they_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n out_o of_o formality_n and_o custom_n and_o not_o to_o get_v any_o spiritual_a advantage_n to_o their_o three_o may_v a_o man_n come_v near_o to_o heaven_n and_o yet_o come_v short_a of_o it_o o_o then_o take_v heed_n of_o these_o two_o sin_n slothfulness_n and_o apostasy_n take_v heed_n of_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v not_o see_v be_v eternal_a 2_o cor._n 4.18_o if_o you_o live_v by_o faith_n you_o will_v fetch_v your_o comfort_n from_o christ_n more_o than_o from_o any_o thing_n in_o let_v we_o be_v content_v to_o suffer_v hardship_n for_o a_o while_n that_o we_o may_v enjoy_v the_o pleasant_a land_n for_o ever_o and_o ever_o so_o much_o for_o the_o first_o branch_n of_o the_o text_n that_o be_v the_o horrible_a ingratitude_n of_o this_o people_n they_o despise_v the_o pleasant_a land_n the_o ground_n of_o that_o ingratitude_n you_o have_v in_o the_o next_o word_n of_o the_o text_n and_o believe_v not_o his_o word_n but_o so_o much_o for_o this_o time_n psal._n cvi_o 24._o and_o believe_v not_o his_o word_n i_o have_v speak_v to_o this_o text_n in_o one_o sermon_n already_o as_o you_o may_v remember_v in_o it_o i_o take_v notice_n of_o two_o branch_n first_o israel_n horrible_a ingratitude_n in_o these_o word_n they_o despise_v the_o pleasant_a land_n and_o that_o i_o finish_v last_o day_n now_o i_o come_v to_o the_o second_o branch_n of_o the_o text_n that_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o their_o ingratitude_n in_o these_o word_n they_o believe_v not_o his_o word_n what_o word_n they_o believe_v not_o the_o promise_n that_o god_n have_v make_v unto_o they_o that_o he_o will_v bestow_v the_o land_n of_o canaan_n upon_o they_o nay_o god_n do_v not_o only_o promise_v it_o but_o he_o swear_v unto_o abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n gen._n 50.24_o and_o joseph_n say_v unto_o his_o brethren_n i_o die_v and_o god_n will_v sure_o visit_v you_o and_o bring_v you_o out_o of_o this_o land_n to_o the_o land_n which_o he_o swear_v to_o abraham_n to_o isaac_n and_o jacob._n but_o because_o the_o spy_n forsooth_o come_v and_o tell_v they_o oh_o there_o be_v wall_v city_n and_o giant_n and_o anakim_v to_o fight_v with_o and_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o you_o to_o get_v possession_n of_o the_o land_n therefore_o they_o believe_v the_o spy_n but_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v god_n they_o believe_v the_o report_n of_o those_o that_o tell_v they_o of_o the_o giant_n but_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v god_n report_n they_o will_v not_o believe_v god_n promise_n so_o the_o doctrine_n i_o shall_v commend_v to_o you_o from_o this_o second_o branch_n of_o the_o text_n be_v this_o doct._n one_o main_a reason_n why_o man_n do_v undervalue_v the_o heavenly_a canaan_n and_o so_o come_v short_a of_o it_o be_v their_o unbelief_n look_v as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n here_o speak_v of_o in_o the_o text_n the_o sin_n that_o make_v they_o despise_v and_o undervalue_v the_o land_n of_o canaan_n and_o so_o be_v debar_v and_o shut_v out_o of_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n be_v their_o unbelief_n as_o the_o apostle_n show_v express_o heb._n 3._o ult_n so_o we_o see_v they_o can_v not_o enter_v in_o because_o of_o unbelief_n so_o here_o one_o main_a reason_n why_o man_n undervalue_v the_o heavenly_a canaan_n and_o so_o come_v short_a or_o be_v deprive_v of_o the_o heavenly_a canaan_n it_o be_v their_o unbelief_n man_n believe_v lie_n but_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v the_o truth_n they_o believe_v the_o devil_n who_o be_v a_o liar_n and_o tell_v they_o they_o may_v come_v to_o heaven_n with_o a_o wet-finger_n and_o therefore_o they_o may_v live_v as_o they_o listen_v but_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n that_o tell_v they_o straight_o be_v the_o gate_n and_o narrow_a be_v the_o way_n that_o lead_v to_o life_n and_o few_o there_o be_v that_o find_v it_o matth._n 7.14_o they_o believe_v the_o father_n of_o lie_n but_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v he_o that_o be_v the_o god_n of_o truth_n who_o say_v strive_v to_o enter_v in_o at_o the_o strait_a gate_n for_o many_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o shall_v seek_v to_o enter_v in_o but_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a luke_n 13.24_o they_o believe_v the_o report_n of_o satan_n but_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v the_o report_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o tell_v we_o express_o 1_o pet._n 4.18_o and_o if_o the_o righteous_a scarce_o be_v save_v where_o shall_v the_o ungodly_a and_o sinner_n appear_v they_o will_v not_o believe_v that_o doctrine_n which_o you_o may_v remember_v prove_v out_o of_o heb._n 4.1_o let_v we_o therefore_o fear_n lest_o a_o promise_n be_v leave_v we_o of_o enter_v into_o his_o rest_n any_o of_o you_o shall_v seem_v to_o come_v short_a of_o it_o where_o i_o show_v you_o that_o the_o life_n of_o a_o christian_a be_v a_o life_n of_o fear_n and_o that_o in_o matter_n of_o soul-concernment_n christian_n shall_v not_o only_o be_v very_o jealous_a of_o themselves_o but_o of_o other_o also_o i_o also_o show_v you_o that_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o many_o that_o be_v professor_n of_o the_o truth_n or_o true_a religion_n to_o come_v short_a of_o heaven_n and_o that_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o many_o that_o be_v confident_a that_o they_o be_v in_o a_o state_n of_o grace_n to_o come_v short_a of_o heaven_n and_o that_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o many_o to_o come_v very_o near_o to_o heaven_n and_o yet_o to_o come_v short_a of_o heaven_n but_o man_n will_v not_o believe_v these_o truth_n now_o their_o unbelief_n be_v the_o cause_n why_o they_o slight_a heaven_n and_o shall_v be_v deprive_v of_o heaven_n for_o the_o better_a explication_n of_o this_o doctrine_n there_o be_v two_o thing_n i_o shall_v open_v to_o you_o first_o what_o this_o unbelief_n be_v that_o make_v man_n so_o undervalue_v the_o heavenly_a canaan_n second_o why_o this_o unbelief_n be_v such_o a_o great_a and_o grievous_a sin_n so_o dangerous_a and_o destructive_a that_o it_o deprive_v man_n of_o that_o heavenly_a canaan_n first_o what_o this_o unbelief_n be_v that_o make_v man_n slight_v the_o heavenly_a canaan_n for_o answer_v to_o this_o you_o must_v know_v there_o be_v a_o twofold_a unbelief_n there_o be_v a_o negative_a and_o there_o be_v a_o positive_a unbelief_n first_o there_o be_v a_o negative_a unbelief_n and_o that_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o pagan_n and_o heathen_n that_o never_o hear_v of_o god_n nor_o of_o the_o gospel_n of_o jesus_n christ_n they_o believe_v not_o because_o they_o know_v not_o they_o know_v not_o god_n rom._n 10.14_o how_o shall_v they_o believe_v in_o he_o of_o who_o they_o have_v not_o hear_v this_o be_v the_o sin_n of_o pagan_n this_o ignorance_n it_o excuse_v in_o part_n though_o not_o in_o whole_a their_o sin_n be_v not_o so_o great_a by_o far_o as_o the_o sin_n of_o those_o that_o do_v profess_v the_o gospel_n yet_o their_o negative_a unbelief_n be_v a_o sin_n because_o god_n commandment_n be_v that_o we_o shall_v believe_v on_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n 1_o john_n 3.23_o and_o this_o be_v his_o commandment_n that_o we_o believe_v in_o the_o name_n of_o his_o son_n jesus_n christ_n but_o this_o be_v the_o negative_a unbelief_n this_o concern_v not_o we_o but_o it_o concern_v those_o that_o know_v not_o god_n second_o there_o
believe_v this_o yet_o many_o of_o you_o can_v live_v as_o secure_o as_o merry_o and_o mad_o as_o if_o so_o be_v you_o shall_v never_o drop_v down_o into_o the_o dust_n here_o now_o indeed_o be_v a_o notional_a faith_n i_o but_o there_o be_v not_o a_o practical_a faith_n it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o believe_v a_o truth_n notional_o and_o another_o thing_n to_o believe_v it_o practical_o four_o will_v you_o have_v unbelief_n remove_v then_o oh_o beg_v and_o beg_v earnest_o that_o god_n will_v take_v away_o your_o heart_n of_o stone_n and_o give_v you_o heart_n of_o flesh_n let_v this_o be_v your_o prayer_n every_o day_n do_v you_o not_o remember_v how_o i_o open_v that_o text_n to_o you_o a_o new_a heart_n also_o will_v i_o give_v you_o and_o a_o new_a spirit_n will_v i_o put_v within_o you_o and_o i_o will_v take_v away_o the_o stony_a heart_n out_o of_o your_o flesh_n and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o a_o heart_n of_o flesh_n ezek._n 36.26_o what_o be_v a_o stony-heart_n but_o a_o senseless_a heart_n a_o heart_n senseless_a of_o sin_n and_o a_o heart_n fearless_a of_o wrath_n now_o do_v but_o observe_v that_o unbelief_n and_o hardness_n of_o heart_n they_o still_o go_v together_o in_o mark_v 16.14_o afterward_o he_o appear_v unto_o the_o eleven_o as_o they_o sit_v at_o meat_n and_o upbraid_v they_o with_o their_o unbelief_n and_o hardness_n of_o heart_n our_o saviour_n upbraid_v they_o for_o their_o unbelief_n and_o hardness_n of_o heart_n why_o be_v you_o so_o backward_o to_o believe_v it_o be_v because_o of_o the_o hardness_n of_o your_o heart_n five_o i_o beseech_v you_o to_o meditate_v often_o of_o the_o danger_n of_o unbelief_n meditate_v often_o what_o will_v be_v the_o woeful_a effect_n and_o issue_n of_o your_o unbelief_n consider_v the_o threaten_n the_o precept_n and_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o almighty_a in_o john_n 8.24_o i_o say_v therefore_o unto_o you_o that_o you_o shall_v die_v in_o your_o sin_n for_o if_o you_o believe_v not_o that_o i_o be_o he_o you_o shall_v die_v in_o your_o sin_n what_o die_v in_o sin_n oh_o what_o great_a curse_n can_v possible_o be_v utter_v to_o die_v in_o sin_n to_o rot_v in_o sin_n to_o come_v out_o of_o your_o grave_n in_o sin_n to_o be_v present_v before_o your_o judge_n in_o your_o sin_n john_n 3._o ult_n he_o that_o believe_v on_o the_o son_n have_v everlasting_a life_n and_o he_o that_o believe_v not_o the_o son_n shall_v not_o see_v life_n but_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o he_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o he_o if_o it_o be_v only_o for_o a_o few_o day_n it_o may_v be_v bear_v i_o but_o it_o will_v be_v abide_v and_o abide_v and_o abide_v to_o all_o eternity_n the_o wrath_n of_o god_n will_v abide_v upon_o that_o soul_n that_o do_v not_o believe_v in_o a_o word_n and_o so_o i_o have_v do_v as_o god_n speak_v to_o the_o prophet_n in_o another_o case_n they_o will_v not_o see_v but_o they_o shall_v see_v i_o apply_v it_o thus_o you_o that_o will_v not_o believe_v i_o promise_v you_o you_o shall_v believe_v you_o that_o will_v not_o believe_v save_o you_o shall_v believe_v desperate_o you_o that_o will_v not_o believe_v that_o god_n be_v so_o just_a so_o strict_a so_o severe_a you_o shall_v believe_v when_o you_o feel_v the_o wrath_n of_o the_o almighty_a seize_v upon_o you_o never_o to_o be_v remove_v you_o that_o will_v not_o believe_v now_o to_o the_o save_n of_o your_o soul_n you_o shall_v believe_v as_o the_o devil_n to_o believe_v and_o tremble_v you_o then_o will_v believe_v the_o torment_n of_o hell_n in_o that_o day_n when_o you_o feel_v they_o in_o that_o place_n where_o there_o be_v weep_v and_o wail_v and_o gnash_v of_o tooth_n it_o be_v better_a to_o believe_v these_o thing_n now_o than_o believe_v they_o when_o you_o feel_v they_o the_o lord_n work_v these_o thing_n upon_o our_o heart_n that_o this_o soul-destroying_a sin_n may_v not_o be_v our_o ruin_n christs_n preciousness_n 1_o pet._n ii_o 7._o unto_o you_o therefore_o which_o believe_v he_o be_v precious_a but_o unto_o they_o which_o be_v disobedient_a the_o stone_n which_o the_o bvilder_n disallow_v the_o same_o be_v make_v the_o head_n of_o the_o corner_n the_o holy_a apostle_n that_o he_o may_v the_o better_o draw_v christian_n to_o believe_v in_o jesus_n christ_n to_o love_v he_o embrace_v he_o and_o obey_v he_o as_o the_o captain_n of_o their_o salvation_n in_o the_o begin_n of_o this_o chapter_n commend_v to_o they_o both_o the_o word_n of_o christ_n and_o christ_n himself_o who_o be_v the_o kernel_n and_o substance_n of_o the_o word_n he_o commend_v the_o word_n of_o christ_n to_o they_o in_o the_o first_o and_o second_o verse_n of_o this_o chapter_n wherefore_o lay_v aside_o all_o malice_n and_o all_o guile_n and_o hypocrisy_n and_o envy_n and_o evil_a speaking_n as_o newborn_a babe_n desire_v the_o sincere_a milk_n of_o the_o word_n that_o you_o may_v grow_v thereby_o and_o he_o commend_v jesus_n christ_n himself_o to_o they_o two_o way_n first_o by_o show_v what_o he_o be_v in_o himself_o second_o by_o show_v what_o benefit_n believer_n have_v by_o he_o first_o he_o show_v what_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n be_v in_o himself_o in_o ver_fw-la 4_o to_o who_o come_v as_o to_o a_o live_a stone_n disallow_v indeed_o of_o man_n but_o choose_v of_o god_n and_o precious_a he_o be_v a_o live_a stone_n a_o stone_n that_o have_v life_n in_o himself_o and_o a_o stone_n that_o give_v life_n unto_o other_o for_o he_o that_o have_v the_o son_n have_v life_n and_o he_o that_o have_v not_o the_o son_n have_v not_o life_n 1_o john_n 5.12_o and_o not_o only_o a_o live_a stone_n but_o he_o be_v choose_v of_o god_n and_o very_o precious_a the_o pearl_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o precious_a only_a excellent_a one_o in_o comparison_n of_o who_o all_o the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o world_n be_v but_o as_o a_o heap_n of_o dung_n but_o then_o as_o the_o apostle_n commend_v he_o for_o what_o he_o be_v in_o himself_o so_o he_o commend_v jesus_n christ_n by_o what_o he_o have_v do_v for_o all_o those_o that_o believe_v in_o he_o in_o the_o 5_o ver_fw-la you_o also_o as_o lively_a stone_n be_v build_v up_o a_o spiritual_a house_n a_o holy_a priesthood_n to_o offer_v up_o spiritual_a sacrifice_n acceptable_a to_o god_n by_o jesus_n christ_n this_o invaluable_a benefit_n you_o shall_v have_v by_o he_o you_o shall_v not_o only_o be_v justify_v by_o he_o but_o you_o shall_v be_v sanctify_v you_o shall_v be_v make_v a_o holy_a priesthood_n and_o all_o your_o service_n shall_v be_v make_v acceptable_a through_o he_o to_o confirm_v this_o weighty_a truth_n the_o apostle_n produce_v a_o testimony_n out_o of_o the_o prophet_n isaiah_n isa_n 28.16_o therefore_o say_v the_o lord_n god_n behold_v i_o lay_v in_o zion_n for_o a_o foundation_n a_o stone_n a_o try_a stone_n a_o precious_a corner_n stone_n a_o sure_a foundation_n he_o that_o believe_v shall_v not_o make_v haste_n have_v thus_o confirm_v this_o doctrine_n he_o make_v application_n of_o it_o in_o this_o verse_n and_o this_o application_n be_v by_o way_n of_o comfort_n to_o believer_n and_o discomfort_v to_o those_o that_o believe_v not_o first_o it_o be_v a_o doctrine_n that_o afford_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o comfort_n to_o believer_n for_o say_v he_o to_o you_o that_o believe_v jesus_n christ_n be_v precious_a but_o it_o administer_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o discomfort_n to_o unbeliever_n to_o they_o that_o be_v disobedient_a to_o they_o that_o harken_v not_o to_o the_o voice_n of_o christ_n for_o say_v the_o apostle_n though_o this_o christ_n be_v despise_v by_o they_o yet_o he_o shall_v be_v infinite_o advance_v he_o be_v become_v the_o head_n the_o cornerstone_n and_o they_o notwithstanding_o their_o despise_n of_o he_o shall_v be_v everlasting_o ruin_v for_o he_o will_v be_v to_o they_o a_o stumbling-stone_n and_o a_o rock_n of_o offence_n even_o to_o they_o which_o stumble_v at_o the_o word_n be_v disobedient_a this_o be_v the_o connexion_n or_o context_n of_o these_o word_n with_o the_o former_a it_o be_v the_o first_o branch_n of_o the_o text_n here_o that_o i_o principal_o aim_v at_o in_o these_o word_n to_o you_o therefore_o that_o believe_v he_o be_v precious_a the_o word_n therefore_o have_v reference_n unto_o the_o foregoing_a verse_n wherein_o the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o that_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n be_v such_o a_o foundation-stone_n such_o a_o cornerstone_n such_o a_o rock_n of_o salvation_n that_o whosoever_o believe_v in_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v confound_v shall_v not_o be_v condemn_v for_o there_o be_v no_o condemnation_n to_o they_o that_o have_v a_o part_n and_o interest_n in_o he_o rom._n 8.1_o therefore_o say_v the_o apostle_n certain_o to_o you_o he_o must_v needs_o be_v
three_o a_o obedient_a christian_a shall_v know_v truth_n more_o transform_o that_o be_v he_o shall_v be_v transform_v into_o the_o very_a image_n of_o those_o truth_n that_o he_o know_v 2_o cor._n god_n make_v like_a unto_o it_o as_o lead_v that_o be_v melt_v and_o cast_v into_o a_o mould_n be_v of_o the_o shape_n of_o the_o mould_n rom._n 6.17_o but_o you_o have_v obey_v from_o the_o heart_n that_o form_n of_o doctrine_n which_o be_v deliver_v you_o or_o into_o which_o you_o be_v deliver_v or_o cast_v four_o a_o obedient_a christian_a shall_v know_v truth_n more_o powerful_o than_o he_o do_v before_o that_o those_o truth_n which_o he_o know_v shall_v over-awe_n his_o heart_n that_o he_o dare_v do_v nothing_o against_o the_o truth_n but_o for_o the_o truth_n 2_o cor._n 13.8_o for_o we_o can_v do_v nothing_o against_o the_o truth_n but_o for_o the_o truth_n act_n 4.20_o we_o can_v but_o speak_v the_o thing_n which_o we_o have_v hear_v and_o see_v it_o be_v a_o excellent_a oversway_v all_o objection_n that_o be_v make_v against_o he_o and_o all_o discouragement_n that_o he_o meet_v with_o in_o the_o way_n of_o holiness_n saint_n paul_n tell_v we_o how_o it_o be_v with_o he_o in_o this_o regard_n gal._n 1.15_o 16_o when_o it_o please_v god_n to_o reveal_v jesus_n christ_n in_o i_o that_o phrase_n in_v i_o be_v very_o remarkable_a a_o man_n may_v have_v jesus_n do_v preponder_n and_o outweigh_v all_o objection_n that_o can_v be_v make_v against_o it_o another_o man_n that_o have_v but_o a_o weak_a and_o feeble_a knowledge_n it_o may_v be_v he_o take_v check_v at_o the_o way_n of_o holiness_n and_o what_o say_v he_o if_o i_o walk_v in_o a_o strict_a way_n and_o be_o circumspect_a and_o careful_a in_o order_v my_o conversation_n i_o shall_v be_v scorn_v and_o oppose_v and_o contemn_v and_o these_o his_o objection_n prevail_v with_o he_o a_o man_n now_o on_o the_o other_o side_n that_o be_v teach_v of_o god_n be_v able_a to_o answer_v all_o these_o objection_n and_o to_o pass_v through_o good_a report_n and_o ill_a report_n this_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n for_o explication_n second_o by_o way_n of_o explication_n it_o may_v be_v demand_v but_o how_o come_v it_o to_o pass_v that_o obedient_a christian_n shall_v know_v more_o than_o other_o for_o answer_v to_o this_o i_o shall_v give_v you_o these_o four_o reason_n for_o it_o first_o because_o god_n have_v promise_v the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o they_o that_o obey_v he_o act_v 5.31_o 32_o him_n have_v god_n exalt_v with_o his_o right_a hand_n to_o be_v a_o prince_n and_o a_o if_o god_n give_v his_o spirit_n to_o they_o that_o obey_v he_o than_o they_o shall_v have_v more_o knowledge_n they_o shall_v know_v more_o of_o his_o will_n for_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v a_o spirit_n of_o light_n and_o open_v our_o understanding_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v a_o teach_a spirit_n and_o they_o that_o be_v teach_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n shall_v certain_o come_v a_o satisfy_a light_n that_o will_v enable_v a_o man_n to_o reconcile_v some_o seem_a difference_n that_o be_v in_o the_o scripture_n let_v i_o give_v you_o a_o instance_n in_o one_o or_o two_o those_o two_o place_n compare_v together_o gen._n 6.6_o and_o it_o repent_v the_o lord_n that_o he_o have_v make_v man_n on_o the_o earth_n and_o it_o grieve_v he_o at_o his_o heart_n but_o in_o we_o conclude_v that_o a_o man_n be_v justify_v by_o faith_n without_o the_o deed_n of_o the_o law_n but_o saint_n james_n he_o tell_v the_o quite_o contrary_a james_n 2.25_o you_o see_v then_o how_o justification_n before_o god_n and_o saint_n james_n he_o speak_v of_o justification_n before_o man_n we_o be_v justify_v before_o god_n by_o faith_n only_o we_o be_v justify_v before_o man_n by_o work_n again_o they_o may_v be_v reconcile_v thus_o faith_n do_v justify_v our_o person_n but_o good_a work_n do_v justify_v our_o faith_n good_a work_n be_v no_o part_n of_o our_o justification_n but_o only_o a_o proof_n of_o our_o justification_n last_o in_o the_o description_n i_o say_v this_o a_o believer_n have_v receive_v a_o satisfy_a light_n give_v up_o his_o understanding_n resolve_o to_o those_o truth_n that_o be_v reveal_v to_o he_o but_o you_o will_v say_v when_o do_v a_o man_n give_v up_o his_o understanding_n resolve_o to_o those_o truth_n reveal_v to_o he_o i_o will_v tell_v you_o first_o when_o he_o be_v resolve_v to_o part_n with_o every_o sin_n that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n disallow_n and_o condemn_v though_o it_o be_v as_o dear_a to_o he_o as_o his_o right_a hand_n or_o his_o right_a eye_n and_o when_o he_o can_v practise_v every_o duty_n that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n command_v though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o difficult_a as_o for_o example_n the_o duty_n of_o this_o be_v a_o certain_a truth_n that_o they_o that_o do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n shall_v not_o only_o know_v more_o of_o god_n
