support_v it_o and_o paul_n express_v the_o natural_a and_o common_a work_n of_o his_o and_o other_o of_o the_o saint_n faith_n thus_o for_o therefore_o we_o both_o labour_n and_o suffer_v reproach_n because_o we_o trust_v in_o the_o live_a god_n who_o be_v the_o saviour_n of_o all_o man_n especial_o of_o those_o that_o believe_v 1_o tim._n 4.10_o their_o trust_n and_o dependence_n upon_o god_n as_o saviour_n as_o offer_v salvation_n to_o the_o believer_n cause_v they_o both_o to_o labour_n and_o suffer_v reproach_n i._n e._n diligent_o to_o labour_v in_o the_o lord_n work_v and_o careful_o single_o in_o another_o place_n act_v 24.15_o 16._o and_o have_v hope_n towards_o god_n etc._n etc._n and_o herein_o do_v i_o exercise_v myself_o to_o have_v always_o a_o conscience_n void_a of_o offence_n towards_o god_n and_o towards_o man_n his_o hope_n towards_o god_n touch_v the_o resurrection_n and_o the_o glory_n that_o shall_v follow_v put_v he_o upon_o this_o continual_a labour_n and_o exercise_n of_o have_v always_o a_o conscience_n void_a of_o offence_n towards_o god_n and_o man_n that_o be_v of_o carry_v the_o matter_n so_o and_o that_o always_o in_o his_o behaviour_n and_o the_o grammatical_a sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n yet_o as_o to_o the_o spiritual_a design_n of_o they_o whilst_o they_o themselves_o be_v stranger_n to_o the_o sense_n of_o such_o a_o thing_n upon_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o consequent_o have_v not_o that_o presence_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o truth_n who_o keep_v at_o a_o distance_n from_o the_o high-minded_a and_o worldly-wise_a they_o must_v needs_o be_v in_o great_a danger_n of_o wrest_v the_o scripture_n as_o unto_o the_o spiritual_a design_n of_o they_o than_o the_o poor_a humble_a and_o meek_a soul_n with_o who_o god_n delight_v to_o dwell_v and_o who_o he_o have_v promise_v to_o guide_v in_o judgement_n and_o teach_v in_o his_o way_n psal_n 25.9_o isai_n 57.15_o though_o very_o far_o inferior_a in_o humane_a accomplishment_n but_o since_o the_o misunderstanding_n of_o the_o scripture_n about_o the_o doctrine_n of_o justification_n by_o faith_n without_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n have_v prove_v and_o i_o exceed_o fear_v do_v still_o prove_v a_o snare_n of_o death_n unto_o vast_a multitude_n of_o poor_a soul_n as_o i_o intimate_v before_o therefore_o to_o awaken_v man_n who_o have_v be_v but_o in_o a_o paul_n in_o his_o epistle_n exclude_v in_o the_o point_n of_o man_n justification_n before_o god_n romans_z 4.5_o but_o to_o he_o that_o work_v not_o but_o believe_v on_o he_o that_o justifi_v the_o ungodly_a his_o faith_n be_v count_v unto_o he_o for_o righteousness_n sect_n i_o not_o to_o meddle_v with_o the_o coherence_n of_o these_o word_n for_o the_o present_a because_o i_o shall_v have_v a_o fit_a occasion_n to_o touch_v that_o afterward_o you_o may_v easy_o perceive_v that_o they_o do_v in_o themselves_o contain_v a_o brief_a description_n of_o the_o man_n who_o god_n will_v not_o etc._n etc._n 2._o affirmative_o he_o be_v such_o a_o one_o as_o do_v believe_v on_o he_o that_o justifi_v the_o ungodly_a for_o the_o text_n tell_v we_o concern_v he_o that_o his_o faith_n be_v count_v to_o he_o for_o righteousness_n i_o shall_v god_n willing_a speak_v something_o to_o both_o part_n of_o the_o description_n and_o shall_v begin_v with_o that_o first_o which_o be_v first_o in_o the_o text._n how_o then_o be_v the_o apostle_n to_o be_v understand_v when_o he_o affirm_v the_o man_n that_o work_v not_o to_o be_v the_o capable_a subject_n of_o justification_n provide_v otherwise_o he_o be_v such_o a_o one_o as_o do_v believe_v what_o kind_n of_o work_n be_v they_o which_o he_o shut_v out_o from_o have_v part_n and_o fellowship_n in_o this_o matter_n and_o in_o what_o respect_n 1._o whatever_o they_o be_v it_o be_v not_o the_o presence_n of_o they_o which_o he_o exclude_v as_o if_o a_o man_n that_o have_v the_o work_n he_o here_o speak_v of_o can_v not_o be_v justify_v but_o it_o be_v such_o a_o justify_v virtue_n power_n and_o property_n which_o some_o suppose_a to_o be_v in_o they_o but_o be_v deceive_v which_o he_o exclude_v as_o have_v no_o hand_n less_o nor_o more_o in_o any_o man_n justification_n for_o otherwise_o paul_n though_o whilst_o he_o be_v a_o pharisee_n and_o to_o the_o very_a time_n of_o his_o believe_a be_v such_o a_o worker_n as_o that_o he_o can_v say_v that_o as_o touch_v the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n he_o be_v blameless_a phil._n 3.6_o yet_o this_o be_v no_o obstruction_n to_o his_o justification_n when_o he_o do_v believe_v indeed_o 2._o but_o the_o apostle_n meaning_n be_v that_o the_o absence_n of_o the_o work_v here_o speak_v of_o will_v not_o at_o all_o hinder_v a_o man_n justification_n in_o case_n he_o do_v believe_v but_o that_o he_o be_v in_o as_o good_a a_o capacity_n of_o justification_n upon_o his_o believe_a though_o he_o have_v none_o of_o the_o work_v he_o here_o speak_v of_o as_o he_o will_v or_o can_v have_v be_v in_o case_n he_o have_v they_o all_o 3._o but_o then_o in_o the_o next_o place_n the_o main_a question_n will_v be_v what_o and_o what_o manner_n sort_n or_o kind_n of_o work_n it_o be_v without_o which_o a_o man_n if_o he_o believe_v shall_v be_v justify_v and_o whether_o he_o intend_v to_o exclude_v all_o and_o all_o manner_n of_o work_n in_o this_o case_n or_o some_o one_o sort_n or_o kind_n only_o for_o the_o resolution_n whereof_o we_o must_v consider_v upon_o what_o occasion_n these_o word_n of_o the_o apostle_n be_v here_o bring_v in_o and_o what_o people_n and_o what_o opinion_n they_o be_v against_o which_o he_o be_v here_o dispute_v the_o knowledge_n of_o which_o will_v be_v as_o a_o key_n to_o open_v the_o door_n of_o this_o text_n and_o to_o give_v we_o clear_o to_o understand_v what_o work_v they_o be_v without_o which_o a_o man_n believe_v may_v be_v justify_v that_o it_o be_v not_o against_o any_o such_o opinion_n as_o reckon_v a_o gospel_n conversation_n consist_v of_o self-denial_n mortification_n of_o worldly_a lust_n and_o sinful_a affection_n the_o love_n of_o christ_n above_o all_o and_o the_o prefer_v other_o man_n spiritual_a interest_n and_o profit_n before_o their_o own_o temporal_a and_o a_o tender_a care_v for_o other_o temporal_a good_a as_o well_o as_o their_o own_o i_o say_v that_o it_o be_v not_o any_o such_o opinion_n against_o which_o the_o face_n of_o the_o apostle_n present_a argumentation_n be_v bend_v will_v evident_o appear_v 1._o by_o the_o carriage_n of_o other_o scripture_n which_o be_v so_o far_o off_o from_o affirm_v any_o man_n to_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n without_o these_o work_n as_o that_o contrary_o they_o do_v positive_o and_o peremptory_o conclude_v and_o declare_v that_o faith_n to_o be_v dead_a unprofitable_a and_o vain_a and_o such_o as_o shall_v never_o save_v that_o be_v without_o these_o and_o therefore_o we_o may_v by_o no_o mean_n understand_v the_o
