the_o jew_n taste_v of_o christ_n word_n i._n e._n they_o believe_v in_o his_o name_n when_o they_o see_v the_o 24._o miracle_n which_o he_o do_v but_o jesus_n do_v not_o commit_v himself_o unto_o they_o because_o he_o know_v all_o man_n they_o give_v a_o true_a assent_n to_o the_o proposition_n of_o his_o word_n yet_o do_v not_o close_o in_o with_o he_o they_o do_v not_o consent_v to_o receive_v he_o to_o desire_v love_n and_o obey_v he_o they_o have_v no_o union_n with_o he_o by_o save_v faith_n and_o the_o like_a may_v be_v say_v of_o these_o person_n in_o our_o text._n 2._o nay_o these_o person_n find_v jesus_n christ_n to_o be_v the_o true_a and_o great_a saviour_n they_o may_v taste_v the_o word_n or_o believe_v with_o some_o kind_n of_o joy_n though_o it_o be_v a_o false_a joy_n who_o will_v not_o be_v save_v or_o have_v christ_n as_o a_o saviour_n this_o they_o like_v they_o will_v be_v save_v from_o hell_n and_o wrath_n but_o do_v not_o consider_v that_o christ_n come_v to_o save_v his_o people_n from_o their_o sin_n he_o will_v save_v none_o who_o abide_v in_o their_o sin_n who_o hold_v they_o fast_o and_o resolve_v not_o to_o let_v they_o go_v many_o may_v taste_v some_o sweetness_n in_o hear_v of_o the_o power_n of_o christ_n to_o save_v who_o go_v on_o presumptuous_o in_o their_o ungodly_a practice_n it_o be_v express_o say_v that_o the_o stony-ground_n hearer_n receive_v the_o word_n with_o joy_n they_o have_v a_o taste_n of_o it_o a_o common_a faith_n seem_v to_o give_v a_o 20._o taste_n the_o name_n of_o a_o saviour_n relish_v sweet_a 3._o they_o may_v taste_v of_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o word_n but_o may_v not_o like_o the_o precept_n of_o it_o or_o what_o sometime_o follow_v and_o overtake_v such_o who_o profess_v the_o gospel_n or_o may_v like_o some_o precept_n but_o not_o like_o some_o other_o of_o they_o every_o word_n of_o god_n with_o these_o be_v not_o precious_a they_o can_v deny_v themselves_o and_o follow_v christ_n whither_o soever_o he_o go_v they_o be_v not_o like_o david_n who_o say_v every_o word_n of_o god_n be_v pure_a therefore_o i_o love_v thy_o commandment_n above_o gold_n yea_o above_o 128._o fine_a gold_n therefore_o i_o esteem_v all_o thy_o precept_n concern_v all_o thing_n to_o be_v right_a and_o i_o hate_v every_o false_a way_n 4._o a_o bare_a taste_n or_o a_o simple_a taste_n of_o the_o word_n be_v enough_o for_o these_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o the_o world_n may_v be_v they_o think_v be_v too_o little_a yet_o a_o little_a religion_n a_o little_a of_o the_o word_n short_a prayer_n and_o little_o preach_v will_v suffice_v they_o a_o great_a portion_n be_v too_o little_a for_o their_o child_n but_o sixpence_n or_o a_o shilling_n they_o may_v think_v be_v too_o much_o for_o the_o poor_a saint_n or_o a_o small_a matter_n a_o great_a deal_n to_o be_v give_v to_o the_o child_n of_o god_n it_o be_v evident_a these_o person_n give_v little_a or_o nothing_o to_o the_o poor_a saint_n by_o what_o the_o apostle_n speak_v in_o the_o verse_n follow_v our_o text_n and_o therefore_o no_o sincere_a believer_n for_o god_n be_v not_o unrighteous_a to_o forget_v your_o work_n of_o faith_n and_o labour_n of_o love_n in_o that_o you_o have_v minister_v to_o the_o saint_n etc._n etc._n you_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v be_v not_o of_o that_o sort_n i_o be_o a_o speak_n of_o they_o do_v not_o love_v the_o child_n of_o god_n though_o they_o have_v have_v a_o taste_n of_o the_o word_n this_o one_o virtue_n brethren_n be_v more_o than_o all_o those_o five_o attainment_n mention_v in_o my_o text_n when_o that_o which_o a_o man_n give_v be_v give_v in_o love_n to_o christ_n 5._o yet_o this_o bare_a taste_n as_o you_o have_v hear_v may_v have_v some_o effect_n upon_o these_o man_n heart_n 1._o they_o may_v find_v some_o kind_n of_o delight_n in_o that_o knowledge_n they_o have_v of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o may_v speak_v in_o the_o commendation_n and_o vindication_n thereof_o thus_o balaam_n seem_v wonderful_o to_o be_v affect_v with_o the_o state_n of_o israel_n and_o with_o the_o tabernacle_n and_o tent_n of_o jacob_n yet_o he_o love_v the_o wage_n of_o unrighteousness_n 2._o it_o may_v work_v as_o you_o hear_v last_o day_n a_o visible_a change_n in_o they_o such_o a_o power_n may_v go_v along_o with_o that_o taste_n they_o like_o saul_n may_v become_v other_o men._n 3._o they_o may_v have_v the_o same_o lamp_n of_o profession_n with_o true_a christian_n and_o be_v take_v for_o real_a convert_v not_o know_v to_o the_o godly_a but_o to_o be_v such_o the_o wise_a virgin_n doubtless_o think_v well_o of_o the_o foolish_a they_o do_v not_o know_v they_o be_v unsound_a or_o foolish_a one_o 4._o such_o a_o work_n and_o effect_v the_o holy_a spirit_n and_o taste_n of_o the_o word_n may_v have_v that_o they_o may_v be_v full_a of_o great_a expectation_n of_o bâ—ing_v embrace_v by_o christ_n when_o he_o come_v if_o they_o fall_v not_o away_o before_o it_o be_v say_v the_o foolish_a virgin_n go_v out_o to_o meet_v the_o bridegroom_n they_o have_v much_o confidence_n may_v be_v more_o confidence_n though_o it_o be_v self-confidence_n that_o the_o wise_a for_o true_a believer_n may_v be_v attend_v with_o many_o doubt_n dr._n owen_n speak_v of_o this_o sort_n mention_v in_o my_o text_n say_v and_o no_o doubt_n say_v the_o truth_n that_o there_o be_v a_o inferior_a common_a work_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n in_o the_o dispensation_n of_o the_o word_n on_o many_o to_o who_o it_o be_v preach_v cause_v in_o they_o a_o great_a alteration_n and_o change_n as_o to_o light_n knowledge_n ability_n gift_n affection_n life_n and_o conversation_n when_o the_o person_n so_o wrought_v upon_o be_v not_o quicken_v regenerate_v or_o make_v new_a creature_n nor_o unite_v to_o jesus_n christ_n that_o in_o the_o person_n thus_o wrought_v upon_o there_o be_v or_o may_v be_v such_o a_o assent_n and_o light_n and_o conviction_n of_o the_o truth_n propose_v and_o preach_v to_o they_o as_o in_o its_o kind_n be_v true_a not_o counterfeit_a giving_z or_o afford_v to_o they_o a_o profession_n of_o the_o faith_n that_o be_v they_o be_v blind_v and_o know_v not_o that_o they_o be_v unsound_a in_o the_o main_n their_o heart_n for_o want_n of_o true_a light_n deceive_v they_o as_o in_o the_o case_n of_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n nay_o and_o they_o may_v perhaps_o hold_v out_o in_o their_o profession_n constant_o unto_o death_n nay_o may_v give_v their_o body_n to_o be_v burn_v 2._o o_o see_v brethren_n that_o your_o faith_n be_v the_o faith_n of_o god_n elect_n and_o that_o you_o be_v save_o renew_v o_o look_v about_o you_o since_o it_o may_v be_v thus_o the_o doctor_n add_v that_o among_o these_o person_n be_v ofttimes_o some_o that_o be_v endue_v with_o excellent_a gift_n and_o lovely_a part_n qualification_n and_o ability_n render_v they_o very_o useful_a to_o the_o church_n of_o god_n be_v vessel_n in_o his_o house_n to_o hold_v and_o convey_v to_o other_o the_o precious_a liquor_n of_o the_o gospel_n though_o never_o have_v their_o own_o evil_a heart_n change_v to_o which_o let_v i_o add_v they_o be_v such_o or_o of_o this_o sort_n of_o person_n who_o be_v liable_a to_o sin_v the_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n or_o so_o fall_v that_o it_o may_v be_v impossible_a for_o they_o to_o be_v renew_v by_o repentance_n yet_o before_o they_o so_o fall_v it_o may_v not_o be_v impossible_a for_o they_o to_o become_v true_a convert_v the_o nature_n of_o which_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n i_o purpose_v to_o open_a before_o i_o close_o with_o this_o text._n four_o i_o shall_v proceed_v to_o show_v you_o what_o a_o taste_n of_o god_n and_o 2._o of_o his_o good_a word_n it_o be_v which_o all_o true_a believer_n have_v 1._o it_o be_v a_o taste_n that_o arise_v from_o spiritual_a hunger_n there_o be_v a_o true_a sense_n of_o want_n they_o have_v a_o crave_v appetite_n and_o nothing_o but_o god_n in_o christ_n can_v satisfy_v their_o soul_n my_o soul_n thirst_v for_o god_n for_o the_o live_a god_n say_v david_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o they_o be_v pronounce_v bless_v bless_v be_v they_o which_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n after_o righteousness_n 6._o for_o they_o shall_v be_v fill_v not_o have_v only_o a_o taste_n no_o no_o but_o they_o shall_v be_v fill_v they_o shall_v eat_v to_o satisfaction_n they_o see_v that_o they_o want_v a_o righteousness_n whereby_o they_o may_v be_v declare_v just_a and_o righteous_a before_o god_n namely_o the_o
whether_o this_o light_n power_n or_o moral_a grace_n as_o they_o call_v it_o be_v natural_a or_o supernatural_a mediate_v or_o immediate_a they_o do_v not_o seem_v well_o to_o accord_v about_o it_o some_o of_o they_o as_o one_o observe_v say_v the_o power_n of_o natural_a reason_n or_o the_o exercise_n of_o human_a credence_n be_v sufficient_a to_o a_o man_n be_v convince_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n or_o of_o the_o declaration_n of_o god_n love_n and_o grace_n in_o christ_n so_o that_o he_o may_v believe_v as_o easy_o as_o to_o believe_v any_o other_o matter_n upon_o infallible_a testimony_n other_o call_v it_o a_o gift_n or_o the_o light_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o all_o man_n have_v yet_o if_o thorough_o examine_v it_o be_v no_o more_o than_o a_o natural_a gift_n light_n or_o ability_n that_o it_o be_v the_o special_a grace_n of_o god_n or_o illumination_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n be_v not_o grant_v but_o deny_v by_o these_o man_n it_o be_v no_o other_o grace_n or_o power_n than_o be_v afford_v equal_o to_o those_o who_o perish_v as_o to_o such_o who_o be_v save_v it_o be_v not_o such_o grace_n or_o operation_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o infuse_v holy_a habit_n which_o determine_v the_o will_n or_o incline_v it_o to_o good_a but_o such_o excitement_n that_o only_o awaken_v and_o rouse_v its_o native_a power_n it_o be_v such_o grace_n that_o the_o will_n may_v receive_v or_o refuse_v the_o whole_a efficacy_n of_o it_o so_o far_o as_o i_o can_v gather_v it_o lie_v not_o in_o its_o own_o nature_n nor_o from_o the_o effectual_a operation_n of_o god_n spirit_n but_o from_o the_o will_n of_o man._n now_o how_o contrary_a this_o be_v to_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o all_o the_o experience_n of_o renew_a and_o gracious_a person_n i_o leave_v to_o their_o consideration_n yet_o to_o detect_v and_o condemn_v these_o notion_n i_o shall_v add_v a_o word_n or_o two_o before_o i_o conclude_v 1._o can_v a_o dead_a man_n quicken_v himself_o or_o be_v raise_v to_o life_n without_o a_o vital_a principle_n be_v infuse_v into_o he_o will_v moral_a swasion_n bring_v a_o dead_a man_n to_o life_n 2._o have_v man_n a_o power_n natural_o in_o he_o exceed_v the_o power_n of_o satan_n or_o be_v he_o strong_a than_o that_o strong_a man_n arm_v or_o be_v not_o all_o man_n natural_o under_o the_o power_n of_o the_o prince_n of_o darkness_n he_o take_v they_o captive_a at_o his_o will_n let_v this_o be_v consider_v for_o see_v 26._o god_n word_n do_v positive_o declare_v this_o to_o be_v the_o state_n of_o all_o man_n by_o nature_n i._n e._n that_o they_o be_v under_o satan_n power_n what_o signify_v that_o which_o they_o affirm_v will_v satan_n be_v persuade_v to_o release_v and_o 20._o let_v go_v his_o captive_n which_o he_o hold_v down_o in_o strong_a bond_n and_o chain_n or_o do_v not_o our_o saviour_n express_o intimate_v he_o will_v keep_v all_o his_o good_n in_o security_n until_o a_o strong_a than_o he_o come_v and_o bind_v he_o and_o deve_v he_o of_o his_o power_n 3._o be_v not_o faith_n say_v to_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o that_o we_o believe_v according_a to_o the_o work_n of_o god_n almighty_a power_n and_o after_o the_o same_o manner_n that_o he_o wrought_v in_o christ_n when_o he_o raise_v he_o from_o the_o dead_a 4._o be_v not_o the_o carnal_a mind_n enmity_n against_o god_n have_v in_o it_o a_o utter_a averseness_n and_o moral_a impotency_n to_o do_v that_o which_o be_v spiritual_o good_a for_o it_o be_v not_o subject_a to_o the_o law_n of_o god_n neither_o indeed_o can_v 7._o be_v 5._o do_v not_o the_o scripture_n say_v that_o those_o who_o be_v bear_v again_o 13._o be_v not_o bear_v of_o the_o will_n of_o man_n but_o of_o god_n and_o again_o it_o be_v say_v of_o his_o own_o will_n beget_v he_o we_o and_o if_o so_o be_v not_o the_o creature_n as_o 18._o passive_a in_o regeneration_n as_o the_o child_n be_v in_o generation_n god_n do_v not_o work_v on_o the_o soul_n absolute_o of_o his_o will_n according_a to_o these_o man_n but_o wait_v to_o see_v what_o man_n be_v will_v will_v do_v all_o depend_v on_o man's-will_a grace_n with_o they_o neither_o work_v physical_o nor_o irresistible_o and_o that_o god_n can_v or_o do_v not_o by_o any_o divine_a operation_n of_o unwilling_a make_v the_o will_n of_o man_n willing_a for_o after_o all_o god_n do_v the_o will_n have_v power_n and_o oftentimes_o do_v resist_v it_o and_o render_v all_o god_n do_v of_o none_o effect_n now_o as_o a_o reverend_a person_n well_o observe_v c._n according_a to_o these_o man_n doctrine_n as_o the_o power_n for_o these_o great_a concern_v of_o salvation_n be_v not_o in_o god_n or_o his_o special_a grace_n so_o neither_o be_v the_o act_n from_o he_o that_o which_o give_v or_o work_v the_o act_n determine_v the_o will_n or_o cause_v it_o to_o determine_v itself_o but_o the_o lord_n by_o his_o grace_n bring_v it_o only_o to_o the_o will_v his_o choice_n and_o leave_v it_o to_o do_v as_o it_o list_v the_o lord_n by_o his_o power_n work_v not_o the_o will_v to_o turn_v to_o god_n to_o loâ—e_v god_n to_o embrace_v christ_n to_o yield_v to_o the_o spirit_n but_o leave_v it_o indifferent_a to_o turn_v to_o god_n or_o against_o he_o to_o love_n god_n or_o to_o hate_v he_o to_o embrace_v christ_n or_o reject_v he_o to_o yield_v to_o the_o spirit_n or_o resist_v he_o it_o must_v be_v leave_v indifferent_a as_o to_o either_o grace_n turn_v not_o the_o scale_n but_o leave_v the_o will_v a_o equal_a poise_n that_o the_o will_n of_o man_n not_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n may_v have_v the_o cast_a weight_n if_o grace_n shall_v weigh_v it_o down_o the_o liberty_n of_o the_o will_n they_o say_v will_v be_v violate_v and_o in_o nature_n destroy_v be_v this_o the_o doctrine_n of_o general_a love_n which_o they_o will_v have_v to_o be_v in_o god_n to_o mankind_n viz._n have_v the_o lord_n leave_v it_o indifferent_a in_o his_o eternal_a purpose_n whether_o any_o shall_v be_v save_v or_o no_o for_o if_o the_o will_n comply_v not_o god_n will_v not_o bend_v it_o or_o bring_v it_o by_o irresistible_a grace_n in_o a_o physical_a way_n to_o a_o compliance_n and_o though_o christ_n in_o redemption_n according_a to_o they_o die_v for_o all_o yet_o he_o have_v leave_v it_o indifferent_a whether_o any_o shall_v be_v actual_o redeem_v or_o no_o for_o the_o deprave_a will_n of_o man_n determine_v the_o whole_a event_n of_o all_o that_o which_o christ_n have_v do_v and_o the_o gospel_n or_o the_o spirit_n do_v do_v and_o if_o some_o man_n be_v not_o better_a nature_a and_o more_o considerate_a than_o other_o christ_n may_v have_v die_v in_o vain_a and_o it_o follow_v also_o that_o such_o who_o be_v save_v have_v more_o cause_n to_o admire_v their_o will_n compliance_n in_o believe_v than_o to_o exalt_v and_o admire_v the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n if_o what_o they_o say_v be_v true_a alas_o this_o general_a love_n of_o god_n they_o talk_v of_o that_o be_v but_o a_o indifferent_a respect_n to_o all_o or_o any_o for_o all_o be_v belove_v alike_o or_o else_o god_n be_v a_o respecter_n of_o person_n they_o say_v end_v in_o love_n or_o hatred_n as_o the_o sinner_n will_n determine_v it_o if_o the_o will_n accept_v choose_v and_o yield_v to_o christ_n than_o the_o person_n be_v belove_v and_o choose_v by_o he_o but_o if_o the_o will_n refuse_v as_o the_o will_n of_o every_o mortal_a might_n as_o well_o as_o one_o according_a to_o their_o notion_n than_o he_o be_v hate_v whatever_o particular_a love_n they_o ascribe_v to_o god_n it_o be_v no_o other_o than_o what_o rise_v or_o be_v occasion_v from_o the_o sinner_n love_n to_o he_o god_n foresee_v that_o such_o and_o such_o person_n will_v believe_v and_o love_v he_o therefore_o purpose_v to_o save_v they_o he_o foresee_v that_o they_o will_v embrace_v choose_v and_o love_n christ_n therefore_o he_o love_v they_o and_o choose_v they_o to_o eternal_a life_n provide_v they_o continue_v their_o goodliking_a and_o affection_n to_o god_n unto_o the_o end_n how_o they_o will_v be_v able_a to_o deliver_v themselves_o from_o these_o and_o such_o like_a consequent_n from_o attend_v their_o notion_n i_o see_v not_o the_o apostle_n say_v we_o love_v he_o because_o he_o first_o love_v we_o and_o that_o 19_o we_o have_v not_o choose_v he_o time_n strive_v to_o vindicate_v and_o clear_v such_o as_o be_v great_o guilty_a before_o god_n both_o which_o be_v abominable_a and_o hateful_a in_o his_o sight_n who_o will_v judge_v righteous_o salvation_n can_v be_v merit_v by_o so_o do_v so_o that_o his_o election_n take_v he_o not_o off_o from_o a_o diligent_a care_n in_o use_n of_o mean_n in_o order_n to_o his_o attain_n to_o eternal_a happiness_n 3._o god_n have_v as_o well_o ordain_v the_o mean_n as_o the_o end_n as_o i_o new_o tell_v you_o both_o be_v appoint_v of_o god_n and_o equal_o under_o his_o absolute_a decree_n man_n be_v not_o elect_v to_o salvation_n but_o also_o to_o sanctification_n and_o holiness_n 4._o we_o be_v not_o to_o look_v upon_o the_o decree_n of_o god_n as_o a_o reverend_a minister_n well_o observe_v mead._n for_o a_o rule_n of_o life_n but_o the_o word_n of_o the_o gospel_n secret_a thing_n belong_v to_o god_n etc._n etc._n the_o decree_n can_v neither_o be_v a_o rule_n of_o life_n nor_o ground_n of_o hope_n but_o the_o precept_n and_o the_o promise_n &c._n &c._n he_o that_o lead_v a_o ungodly_a life_n and_o pursue_v his_o filthy_a lust_n may_v assure_v himself_o so_o live_v and_o die_v he_o shall_v be_v damn_v for_o ever_o he_o that_o believe_v not_o in_o christ_n but_o reject_v he_o and_o despise_v all_o the_o offer_v of_o his_o grace_n to_o the_o end_n of_o his_o life_n no_o decree_n can_v save_v he_o therefore_o if_o he_o will_v go_v on_o in_o sin_n presumptuous_o let_v he_o take_v what_o will_v follow_v on_o the_o other_o hand_n he_o that_o do_v believe_v in_o christ_n and_o spirit_n beget_v we_o except_o a_o man_n be_v bear_v of_o water_n and_o of_o the_o 5._o spirit_n he_o can_v enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n whosoever_o believe_v that_o jesus_n be_v the_o the_o child_n of_o god_n beget_v and_o bear_v of_o god_n quest_n well_o what_o of_o this_o some_o perhaps_o may_v say_v how_o do_v this_o prove_v they_o can_v fall_v away_o so_o as_o to_o perish_v 2_o dly_z i_o answer_v this_o be_v my_o second_o work_n and_o you_o will_v soon_o see_v how_o forcible_a the_o argument_n be_v from_o hence_o to_o prove_v that_o none_o of_o they_o can_v perish_v see_v what_o our_o bless_a saviour_n say_v that_o which_o be_v bear_v of_o the_o flesh_n be_v flesh_n and_o that_o which_o be_v bear_v of_o the_o spirit_n be_v 6._o spirit_n that_o which_o be_v bear_v of_o corrupt_a nature_n or_o be_v the_o product_n of_o the_o flesh_n be_v flesh_n or_o of_o the_o same_o nature_n of_o that_o which_o do_v beget_v it_o as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o adam_n he_o beget_v a_o son_n in_o his_o own_o likeness_n 3._o that_o be_v a_o deprave_a sinful_a and_o mortal_a child_n the_o flesh_n bring_v forth_o effect_n proportionable_a to_o the_o cause_n it_o be_v thus_o in_o the_o first_o birth_n but_o if_o by_o flesh_n you_o will_v have_v our_o saviour_n intend_v the_o product_n of_o man_n natural_a ability_n or_o the_o effect_n of_o the_o high_a improvement_n of_o his_o natural_a light_n understanding_n will_n etc._n etc._n why_o then_o it_o follow_v still_o that_o a_o man_n pure_o natural_a can_v produce_v nothing_o but_o natural_a operation_n for_o nothing_o in_o operation_n exceed_v the_o virtue_n or_o excellency_n of_o that_o cause_n which_o influence_v it_o so_o that_o no_o man_n can_v by_o his_o ability_n however_o improve_v produce_v any_o divine_a or_o spiritual_a operation_n and_o this_o show_v that_o man_n must_v be_v bear_v of_o the_o spirit_n that_o become_v or_o be_v make_v true_o spiritual_a and_o sit_fw-la for_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n and_o say_v our_o saviour_n what_o be_v bear_v of_o the_o spirit_n be_v spirit_n or_o be_v of_o the_o same_o nature_n with_o the_o holy_a spirit_n that_o be_v spiritual_a holy_a immortal_a since_o every_o creature_n beget_v its_o own_o nature_n quality_n and_o image_n such_o as_o be_v the_o cause_n such_o be_v the_o effect_n thus_o it_o be_v in_o generation_n and_o thus_o it_o be_v in_o regeneration_n it_o must_v be_v from_o a_o divine_a from_o a_o spiritual_a cause_n and_o not_o a_o natural_a that_o the_o image_n of_o god_n be_v form_v in_o the_o soul_n the_o flesh_n can_v bring_v forth_o a_o heavenly_a babe_n can_v corruption_n produce_v or_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o regeneration_n can_v a_o worm_n or_o a_o ant_n bring_v forth_o a_o man_n soon_o than_o flesh_n or_o can_v any_o now_o pray_v consider_v that_o such_o as_o be_v the_o nature_n or_o quality_n of_o the_o begetter_n such_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o that_o which_o be_v beget_v of_o he_o therefore_o since_o the_o new_a creature_n be_v beget_v by_o the_o holy_a spirit_n it_o must_v partake_v of_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o spirit_n christ_n say_v it_o be_v spirit_n it_o be_v spiritual_a immortal_a or_o corruptible_a child_n but_o the_o word_n and_o spirit_n of_o god_n beget_v and_o bring_v forth_o a_o immortal_a or_o a_o incorruptible_a babe_n such_o be_v the_o babe_n of_o grace_n or_o child_n of_o god_n i_o speak_v of_o the_o new_a creature_n or_o the_o regenerate_v part_n in_o man._n from_o hence_o let_v i_o draw_v this_o argument_n viz._n arg._n 1._o that_o which_o be_v beget_v and_o bear_v of_o and_o be_v bring_v forth_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n or_o of_o immortal_a and_o incorruptible_a seed_n be_v a_o immortal_a or_o incorruptible_a babe_n but_o the_o new_a creature_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o regenerate_v be_v beget_v and_o bear_v of_o or_o bring_v forth_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n therefore_o the_o new_a creature_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o regenerate_v be_v a_o immortal_a or_o a_o incorruptible_a babe_n now_o if_o it_o be_v immortal_a or_o incorruptible_a it_o can_v never_o die_v but_o live_v and_o abide_v for_o ever_o and_o

feel_v too_o its_o glorious_a effect_n and_o operation_n upon_o their_o soul_n and_o conscience_n though_o the_o sacrifice_n be_v over_o the_o virtue_n and_o excellent_a causality_n of_o it_o abide_v for_o ever_o nine_o christ_n by_o his_o death_n redeem_v his_o people_n from_o all_o iniquity_n and_o this_o be_v his_o end_n in_o die_v what_o signify_v such_o a_o sin_n redemption_n that_o leave_v a_o poor_a slave_n in_o his_o chain_n and_o iron_n without_o procure_v a_o release_n for_o he_o in_o this_o lie_v the_o glory_n of_o our_o redemption_n by_o christ_n it_o be_v not_o only_a from_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n and_o wrath_n of_o god_n but_o from_o a_o vain_a conversation_n also_o see_v the_o apostle_n word_n who_o give_v himself_o for_o we_o that_o he_o may_v redeem_v we_o 14._o from_o all_o iniquity_n and_o purify_v unto_o himself_o a_o peculiar_a people_n zealous_a of_o good_a work_n if_o this_o be_v his_o end_n and_o design_n in_o his_o death_n do_v any_o think_v he_o will_v see_v himself_o frustrate_v in_o it_o shall_v any_o enemy_n of_o the_o soul_n bring_v christ_n under_o a_o disappointment_n compare_v this_o with_o 1_o pes._n 1._o 17_o 18_o 19_o ten_o and_o last_o jesus_n christ_n have_v by_o his_o death_n purchase_v eternal_a redemption_n or_o everlasting_a life_n for_o all_o his_o sheep_n and_o by_o his_o spirit_n have_v also_o give_v to_o they_o here_o ground_n of_o hope_n for_o you_o christ_n die_v for_o the_o chief_a of_o sinner_n and_o whosoever_o believe_v 16._o in_o he_o shall_v not_o perish_v but_o have_v everlasting_a life_n but_o
