death_n of_o the_o cross_n and_o that_o be_v the_o chies_a thing_n which_o he_o command_v and_o will_v have_v they_o to_o remember_v and_o christ_n leave_v not_o this_o type_n only_o but_o he_o make_v to_o they_o who_o be_v his_o follower_n a_o promise_n of_o send_v the_o spirit_n to_o they_o who_o when_o he_o come_v shall_v bring_v all_o that_o he_o have_v say_v into_o their_o remembrance_n jo._n 14.26_o and_o this_o death_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o corporal_a flesh_n be_v still_o set_v before_o the_o eye_n of_o those_o who_o be_v his_o dear_a friend_n and_o true_a follower_n and_o it_o be_v communion_n of_o the_o suffering_n with_o christ_n and_o this_o you_o may_v see_v in_o 1_o cor._n 10.1_o etc._n etc._n to_o the_o 18._o but_o no_o more_o of_o this_o type_n institute_v by_o christ_n but_o i_o proceed_v on_o to_o another_o principle_n in_o your_o religion_n and_o that_o be_v baptism_n and_o in_o short_a will_v show_v you_o your_o error_n in_o the_o same_o if_o perhaps_o some_o of_o you_o have_v eye_n to_o see_v and_o heart_n to_o understand_v the_o truth_n when_o it_o be_v declare_v and_o open_v plain_o to_o you_o now_o for_o this_o form_n of_o baptism_n it_o be_v another_o type_n and_o john_n baptist_n so_o call_v be_v the_o first_o minister_n of_o the_o same_o and_o afterward_o collerate_v by_o christ_n in_o come_v to_o be_v baptize_v himself_o and_o afterward_o give_v further_a approbation_n of_o the_o same_o by_o way_n of_o command_n to_o his_o disciple_n matth._n 28.19_o but_o as_o in_o his_o other_o type_n beforesaid_a institute_v and_o command_v by_o christ_n you_o have_v err_v in_o give_v that_o to_o the_o type_n which_o belong_v to_o the_o thing_n signify_v by_o it_o so_o in_o this_o also_o you_o do_v the_o same_o for_o though_o you_o have_v some_o ground_n in_o scripture_n for_o the_o form_n of_o baptism_n yet_o you_o be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o mind_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o command_n as_o you_o shall_v see_v afterward_o and_o for_o the_o very_a form_n itself_o you_o do_v but_o follow_v it_o by_o tradition_n receive_v from_o the_o blind_a priest_n who_o themselves_o have_v receive_v the_o same_o by_o tradition_n and_o so_o as_o they_o have_v receive_v the_o same_o so_o they_o teach_v you_o and_o so_o you_o believe_v but_o neither_o you_o nor_o the_o priest_n have_v any_o sure_a ground_n in_o scripture_n for_o use_v this_o type_n in_o the_o manner_n or_o person_n to_o who_o you_o have_v it_o administer_v viz._n infant_n for_o no_o sure_a ground_n you_o have_v for_o this_o your_o act_n but_o only_o your_o good_a think_n which_o lead_v you_o to_o do_v the_o same_o and_o your_o good_a think_n be_v but_o ground_v upon_o inference_n and_o consequence_n draw_v from_o uncertainty_n but_o i_o stand_v not_o upon_o disputation_n neither_o do_v i_o mean_v in_o this_o my_o discourse_n to_o dispute_v about_o form_n which_o be_v but_o weak_a and_o beggarly_a thing_n for_o i_o will_v leave_v this_o to_o yourselves_o and_o to_o the_o anabaptist_n to_o dispute_v be_v both_o you_o and_o they_o live_v in_o form_n and_o can_v envy_v one_o another_o in_o your_o form_n and_o persecute_v one_o another_o for_o your_o form_n and_o therefore_o among_o yourselves_o you_o be_v the_o meet_a to_o end_v that_o thing_n either_o by_o your_o disputation_n or_o by_o your_o sword_n but_o as_o for_o i_o i_o have_v no_o calling_n to_o meddle_v any_o further_a in_o your_o wise_a dispute_n about_o your_o form_n but_o my_o call_n be_v to_o let_v you_o both_o see_v how_o you_o be_v but_o fool_n in_o your_o form_n that_o thereby_o you_o may_v both_o become_v wise_a in_o that_o which_o be_v the_o power_n and_o true_a wisdom_n itself_o without_o which_o you_o shall_v all_o perish_v in_o your_o form_n now_o in_o the_o first_o place_n i_o come_v to_o speak_v a_o word_n of_o your_o conclusion_n you_o draw_v from_o this_o type_n of_o baptism_n viz._n that_o it_o be_v a_o holy_a thing_n and_o that_o by_o administer_a the_o same_o to_o infant_n they_o become_v incorporate_v into_o christ_n and_o in_o case_n any_o infant_n die_v before_o it_o be_v baptize_v you_o question_v whether_o it_o go_v to_o heaven_n or_o no_o and_o in_o case_n one_o live_v and_o be_v not_o baptize_v that_o he_o be_v not_o or_o can_v be_v incorporate_v into_o christ_n and_o so_o you_o make_v this_o type_n a_o god_n or_o a_o christ_n by_o way_n of_o consequence_n though_o you_o deny_v the_o same_o with_o your_o tongue_n and_o i_o do_v positive_o deny_v all_o your_o conclusion_n and_o the_o consequence_n draw_v from_o your_o conclusion_n be_v make_v a_o god_n this_o i_o do_v affirm_v and_o will_v prove_v the_o truth_n both_o of_o what_o i_o deny_v and_o what_o i_o affirm_v now_o your_o conclusion_n be_v fourfold_a i_o come_v to_o the_o first_o viz._n that_o baptism_n be_v holy_a which_o i_o both_o deny_v and_o confess_v this_o may_v seem_v logical_a but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o as_o you_o shall_v see_v in_o define_v my_o own_o speech_n first_o i_o confess_v it_o may_v be_v call_v holy_a as_o sometime_o outward_a and_o create_v thing_n have_v that_o epithet_n put_v upon_o they_o when_o they_o be_v set_v apart_o for_o somepious_a end_n as_o the_o vessel_n in_o the_o temple_n and_o other_o material_n belong_v to_o it_o numb_a 31.6_o and_o likewise_o thing_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n which_o be_v choose_v and_o set_v apart_o for_o the_o sacrifice_n and_o so_o the_o scripture_n be_v call_v holy_a 2_o tim._n 3.15_o and_o so_o the_o work_n of_o man_n be_v sometime_o call_v holy_a but_o all_o these_o be_v but_o call_v holy_a in_o respect_n of_o the_o end_n and_o the_o thing_n point_v out_o or_o signify_v and_o this_o be_v but_o a_o outward_a or_o external_a holiness_n and_o this_o i_o confess_v but_o that_o holiness_n which_o you_o blind_o put_v upon_o outward_a thing_n or_o type_n that_o i_o deny_v and_o so_o in_o this_o type_n of_o baptism_n i_o deny_v any_o further_a holiness_n than_o what_o be_v external_a and_o all_o external_a holiness_n a_o man_n may_v have_v and_o act_n and_o live_v in_o all_o the_o particular_n thereof_o and_o yet_o go_v to_o bear_v the_o devil_n company_n in_o hell_n with_o it_o if_o he_o have_v no_o more_o mat._n 5.20_o but_o yet_o you_o will_v deny_v that_o you_o give_v any_o holiness_n to_o this_o type_n but_o what_o belong_v to_o it_o the_o which_o i_o shall_v confute_v in_o speak_v of_o your_o second_o conclusion_n wherein_o you_o affirm_v that_o by_o the_o administring_n of_o the_o same_o a_o child_n become_v incorporate_v or_o ingraft_v into_o christ_n the_o which_o be_v a_o false_a and_o blind_a conclusion_n without_o any_o ground_n in_o scripture_n and_o this_o you_o have_v receive_v by_o tradition_n from_o the_o popish_a fiction_n and_o in_o this_o your_o conclusion_n you_o have_v make_v this_o type_n no_o less_o than_o god_n himself_o as_o here_o i_o prove_v it_o for_o there_o be_v no_o act_n of_o any_o creature_n can_v engraft_v into_o christ_n and_o this_o be_v no_o more_o i_o hope_v then_o the_o act_n of_o a_o creature_n and_o but_o a_o bodily_a work_n and_o bodily_a service_n profit_v nothing_o 1_o tim._n 4.8_o and_o our_o saviour_n who_o give_v out_o the_o command_n for_o observe_v of_o this_o type_n yet_o at_o another_o time_n say_v when_o you_o have_v do_v all_o yet_o count_v yourselves_o unprofitable_a servant_n menstruous_a clothes_n isa_n 64.9_o then_o if_o it_o be_v true_a what_o the_o scripture_n say_v the_o which_o you_o can_v deny_v then_o be_v you_o of_o those_o who_o you_o call_v antiscripturians_a for_o those_o be_v they_o that_o walk_v contrary_a to_o scripture_n by_o tradition_n and_o though_o you_o confess_v the_o truth_n with_o your_o tongue_n yet_o in_o your_o action_n you_o deny_v the_o same_o for_o no_o scripture_n will_v bear_v you_o out_o in_o say_v that_o any_o external_a obedience_n do_v incorporate_v any_o soul_n into_o christ_n or_o to_o engraft_v into_o the_o divine_a nature_n for_o this_o be_v
height_n of_o his_o kingdom_n will_v be_v but_o i_o can_v wish_v those_o poor_a blind_a fool_n among_o you_o to_o turn_v their_o eye_n inward_a and_o look_v for_o the_o reign_v of_o christ_n in_o they_o and_o then_o i_o believe_v they_o shall_v find_v something_o that_o will_v hold_v they_o do_v that_o they_o shall_v look_v no_o more_o for_o christ_n without_o they_o for_o the_o reason_n why_o they_o be_v so_o carry_v out_o in_o their_o fancy_n be_v because_o they_o find_v life_n in_o the_o liberty_n of_o their_o form_n and_o so_o be_v carry_v out_o from_o the_o meddle_v with_o the_o evil_a that_o be_v in_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o therefore_o not_o know_v the_o mystery_n of_o selfnesse_n in_o they_o the_o devil_n have_v power_n to_o work_v in_o their_o fancy_n and_o make_v they_o look_v for_o such_o thing_n to_o be_v fulfil_v outward_o as_o shall_v in_o their_o time_n and_o order_n be_v fulfil_v inward_o and_o all_o this_o happen_v because_o of_o the_o form_n of_o godliness_n without_o the_o power_n of_o god_n and_o as_o yet_o they_o have_v not_o receive_v the_o truth_n as_o it_o be_v in_o jesus_n neither_o do_v they_o love_v the_o truth_n nor_o can_v love_v it_o because_o they_o do_v not_o know_v it_o and_o for_o this_o cause_n god_n send_v such_o very_a strong_a delusion_n 2_o thess_n 2.8_o 9_o but_o to_o let_v these_o pass_v with_o their_o fantastic_a conceit_n i_o will_v speak_v a_o word_n in_o general_a to_o you_o as_o i_o find_v you_o state_v in_o a_o form_n to_o which_o you_o keep_v as_o close_v in_o your_o order_n as_o do_v the_o presbyterian_o yea_o and_o be_v the_o world_n with_o its_o various_a note_n of_o profit_n pleasure_n and_o praise_n and_o when_o this_o pipe_n be_v sound_v you_o all_o dance_n after_o it_o as_o though_o you_o be_v all_o go_v mad_a and_o though_o you_o all_o agree_v in_o this_o harmonious_a dance_n yet_o be_v you_o all_o opposite_a one_o to_o another_o in_o your_o manner_n and_o breed_v and_o bring_v up_o in_o the_o courteous_a congee_n you_o make_v in_o the_o salute_v of_o he_o you_o call_v your_o god_n and_o because_o of_o this_o difference_n you_o can_v own_v one_o another_o though_o you_o otherwise_o centre_n all_o in_o one_o yet_o you_o who_o be_v of_o the_o order_n of_o independency_n i_o must_v confess_v have_v something_o among_o you_o in_o your_o form_n which_o i_o honour_v and_o approve_v of_o you_o for_o it_o as_o you_o be_v formalist_n and_o that_o be_v because_o you_o have_v not_o as_o yet_o tie_v or_o constrain_v any_o to_o observe_v the_o same_o way_n of_o worship_n with_o you_o but_o as_o yet_o leave_v every_o one_o to_o his_o own_o freedom_n in_o way_n of_o worship_n in_o case_n he_o or_o they_o be_v not_o open_a blasphemer_n so_o far_o all_o be_v well_o and_o further_o you_o be_v proper_a operation_n of_o the_o truth_n as_o it_o be_v in_o christ_n i_o have_v not_o as_o yet_o see_v any_o great_a effect_n either_o among_o you_o or_o your_o minister_n for_o the_o natural_a operation_n of_o the_o truth_n turn_v the_o heart_n out_o of_o centre_v in_o form_n though_o never_o so_o well_o regulate_v neither_o will_v the_o power_n of_o the_o truth_n suffer_v the_o heart_n to_o be_v carry_v out_o to_o the_o world_n or_o any_o create_a thing_n whatsoever_o but_o all_o the_o fear_n care_n love_n and_o desire_n of_o any_o thing_n below_o god_n be_v subdue_v in_o that_o soul_n where_o the_o truth_n have_v take_v possession_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o little_a comfort_n or_o content_n can_v that_o soul_n have_v in_o any_o thing_n create_v or_o act_v where_o the_o truth_n as_o it_o be_v in_o jesus_n be_v right_o know_v and_o until_o the_o truth_n in_o jesus_n viz._n in_o the_o divine_a nature_n be_v receive_v and_o from_o the_o receive_n thereof_o the_o knowledge_n thereof_o be_v attain_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n be_v in_o bondage_n either_o to_o the_o creature_n viz._n the_o world_n with_o the_o thing_n contain_v in_o it_o or_o else_o the_o work_n and_o act_n of_o the_o creature_n viz._n form_n of_o religion_n of_o some_o fashion_n or_o other_o and_o all_o thing_n create_v or_o act_v tend_v to_o bondage_n and_o man_n may_v be_v in_o captivity_n to_o either_o of_o these_o or_o to_o both_o and_o yet_o know_v it_o not_o but_o think_v themselves_o free_a and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o they_o never_o find_v bondage_n in_o their_o captivity_n but_o rather_o freedom_n and_o indeed_o while_o man_n live_v in_o a_o form_n he_o know_v not_o the_o bondage_n of_o that_o form_n but_o find_v freedom_n in_o the_o form_n yea_o more_o freedom_n then_o before_o he_o take_v the_o form_n upon_o he_o for_o before_o he_o take_v the_o form_n upon_o he_o his_o conscience_n have_v power_n to_o condemn_v but_o now_o in_o the_o form_n blind_a conscience_n be_v satisfy_v and_o so_o the_o heart_n have_v more_o liberty_n to_o centre_n in_o the_o create_a thing_n and_o yet_o can_v please_v conscience_n with_o act_v thing_n and_o thus_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n be_v roundly_o carry_v on_o in_o form_n and_o the_o world_n and_o the_o worship_n thereof_o go_v on_o as_o roundly_o in_o the_o heart_n and_o no_o bondage_n at_o all_o feel_v in_o any_o of_o you_o have_v a_o knowledge_n but_o not_o according_a to_o the_o truth_n for_o that_o knowledge_n you_o have_v be_v but_o according_a to_o christ_n in_o the_o flesh_n and_o that_o be_v but_o either_o relative_a or_o artificial_a out_o of_o which_o arise_v a_o historical_a faith_n and_o this_o point_v at_o and_o close_v with_o christ_n as_o he_o be_v in_o the_o corporal_a or_o humane_a nature_n and_o this_o you_o may_v have_v and_o indeed_o none_o other_o can_v you_o have_v while_o you_o live_v in_o form_n and_o this_o be_v not_o a_o knowledge_n in_o the_o heart_n or_o a_o faith_n in_o the_o heart_n but_o this_o be_v altogether_o in_o the_o head_n and_o the_o power_n of_o this_o say_v will_v not_o close_o with_o christ_n nor_o can_v close_v with_o christ_n in_o the_o divine_a nature_n for_o that_o faith_n in_o the_o head_n according_a to_o christ_n in_o the_o flesh_n be_v always_o a_o enemy_n to_o christ_n as_o he_o
be_v in_o the_o divine_a nature_n and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o that_o the_o faith_n according_a to_o christ_n in_o the_o flesh_n do_v not_o take_v away_o lust_n out_o of_o the_o heart_n but_o rather_o conform_v the_o heart_n to_o lust_n and_o lust_n to_o the_o heart_n and_o lust_n be_v lovely_a to_o the_o heart_n and_o the_o operation_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n or_o faith_n issue_v out_o of_o and_o from_o the_o divine_a nature_n it_o kill_v lust_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o draw_v the_o heart_n with_o all_o its_o affection_n into_o the_o right_a centre_n and_o from_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o many_o in_o their_o form_n fall_v short_a of_o that_o which_o be_v the_o true_a centre_n and_o become_v enemy_n of_o christ_n and_o yet_o none_o preach_v christ_n nor_o pretend_v christ_n more_o than_o those_o but_o can_v you_o who_o be_v so_o complete_o congregat_v people_n think_v that_o you_o be_v any_o such_o as_o be_v the_o enemy_n of_o christ_n i_o doubt_v you_o will_v hardly_o believe_v it_o but_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o in_o plain_a term_n you_o have_v best_o beware_v lest_o you_o be_v find_v in_o the_o number_n of_o such_o for_o whosoever_o be_v enemy_n to_o the_o cross_n the_o cross_n signify_v but_o it_o may_v be_v that_o some_o among_o you_o will_v know_v what_o i_o mean_v by_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n and_o will_v hear_v my_o opinion_n of_o the_o same_o for_o you_o be_v no_o more_o but_o such_o old_a tale_n as_o have_v former_o be_v tell_v both_o by_o christ_n and_o his_o true_a follower_n but_o when_o the_o follow_v of_o christ_n cease_v than_o the_o old_a say_n and_o tale_n which_o be_v former_o tell_v grow_v out_o of_o fashion_n and_o new_a say_n and_o wise_a say_n and_o learned_a say_n and_o study_v fiction_n be_v new_a become_v to_o be_v in_o request_n but_o to_o answer_v what_o some_o of_o you_o may_v desire_v i_o will_v bring_v old_a say_n to_o explain_v the_o truth_n hereof_o to_o you_o and_o these_o shall_v be_v the_o say_n of_o the_o apostle_n paul_n who_o oft_o insist_v upon_o this_o very_a subject_n viz._n the_o cross_n of_o christ_n but_o this_o be_v not_o the_o wooden_a cross_n upon_o the_o which_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n but_o what_o suffering_n be_v it_o that_o make_v man_n have_v fellowship_n with_o christ_n and_o right_o may_v be_v call_v the_o cross_n it_o be_v the_o daily_a selfe-deniall_n of_o our_o own_o heart_n with_o the_o inclination_n thought_n love_n and_o desire_n which_o be_v daily_o tend_v and_o bend_v down_o to_o the_o creature_n in_o one_o kind_a or_o other_o and_o the_o creature_n with_o its_o object_n arise_v to_o meet_v the_o affection_n to_o carry_v they_o after_o they_o from_o the_o live_n and_o abide_v in_o god_n as_o he_o be_v a_o spirit_n and_o in_o christ_n as_o he_o be_v in_o the_o divine_a nature_n or_o the_o union_n of_o the_o father_n and_o in_o that_o union_n of_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n to_o keep_v the_o heart_n with_o its_o affection_n that_o so_o the_o fellowship_n of_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n may_v daily_o be_v the_o fellowship_n of_o our_o heart_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o ought_v to_o be_v the_o centre_n of_o all_o heart_n without_o which_o there_o can_v be_v no_o happiness_n in_o any_o form_n yea_o this_o lead_v the_o heart_n out_o of_o centre_v in_o form_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o the_o apostle_n will_v have_v those_o who_o he_o write_v to_o to_o enjoy_v and_o for_o that_o end_n he_o declare_v the_o truth_n as_o it_o be_v in_o jesus_n that_o so_o they_o may_v have_v fellowship_n with_o they_o who_o be_v partaker_n of_o the_o truth_n and_o he_o affirm_v that_o their_o fellowship_n be_v with_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n 1_o jo._n 1.2_o 3._o and_o where_o the_o heart_n be_v right_o call_v and_o right_o carry_v on_o in_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n and_o those_o who_o be_v his_o follower_n they_o rest_v not_o in_o form_n and_o kirk-fellowship_n for_o they_o find_v in_o themselves_o other_o matter_n to_o go_v about_o and_o that_o be_v to_o press_v after_o the_o fellowship_n of_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o their_o longing_n empty_a mourn_a spirit_n be_v not_o nor_o can_v be_v content_a with_o any_o thing_n below_o that_o fellowship_n and_o out_o of_o the_o great_a desire_n hereof_o the_o soul_n be_v set_v at_o variance_n with_o all_o create_a thing_n or_o whatsoever_o may_v interpose_v or_o keep_v back_o the_o spirit_n from_o that_o which_o be_v the_o object_n of_o its_o desire_n and_o when_o by_o pure_a enlighten_v the_o pure_a believe_a be_v fix_v in_o the_o will_n or_o heart_n than_o i_o believe_v there_o will_v be_v suffer_v in_o the_o daily_o strive_v to_o keep_v the_o create_a object_n from_o the_o heart_n and_o the_o heart_n from_o the_o creature_n by_o object_n and_o then_o shall_v appear_v and_o be_v make_v manifest_a that_o which_o never_o do_v appear_v before_o even_o the_o great_a body_n of_o sin_n and_o selfnesse_n which_o of_o necessity_n must_v be_v destroy_v and_o crucify_v and_o make_v as_o dead_a as_o the_o body_n of_o jesus_n when_o it_o hang_v dead_a upon_o the_o cross_n of_o wood_n and_o this_o daily_a withstand_v the_o body_n of_o sin_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o affection_n be_v the_o cross_n upon_o which_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n must_v be_v crucify_v for_o this_o body_n of_o sin_n or_o this_o selfnesse_n in_o the_o heart_n must_v die_v or_o the_o soul_n must_v die_v instead_o of_o it_o and_o it_o be_v not_o a_o few_o daily_a duty_n or_o be_v incorporate_v into_o a_o congregat_v way_n that_o will_v destroy_v it_o no_o no_o for_o this_o body_n of_o sin_n and_o selfnesse_n be_v of_o another_o nature_n then_o so_o for_o it_o will_v cost_v man_n the_o best_a blood_n in_o he_o before_o it_o be_v subdue_v and_o the_o apostle_n who_o know_v the_o evil_a of_o it_o and_o the_o necessity_n of_o have_v it_o crucify_v can_v not_o rejoice_v in_o any_o thing_n more_o than_o in_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n by_o which_o he_o be_v crucify_v to_o the_o world_n and_o the_o world_n to_o he_o gal._n 6.14_o and_o by_o this_o daily_a deny_v of_o the_o out-going_n of_o the_o heart_n into_o the_o creature_n and_o the_o incoming_a of_o the_o creature_n into_o the_o heart_n man_n become_v plant_v into_o the_o likeness_n of_o christ_n death_n without_o which_o none_o can_v be_v partaker_n of_o his_o know_v the_o power_n of_o his_o resurrection_n and_o the_o fellowship_n of_o his_o suffering_n and_o a_o conformity_n to_o his_o death_n if_o by_o any_o mean_n he_o may_v attain_v to_o the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o dead_a phil._n 3.10_o 11_o etc._n etc._n this_o be_v the_o mark_n he_o aim_v at_o to_o which_o he_o walk_v by_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o suffering_n and_o example_n of_o christ_n and_o in_o obedience_n to_o his_o command_n which_o most_o be_v for_o self_n denial_n he_o press_v hard_o after_o he_o in_o the_o way_n of_o his_o suffering_n that_o so_o nothing_o that_o be_v of_o self_n may_v live_v in_o he_o yea_o when_o he_o find_v that_o self_n get_v life_n and_o food_n by_o way_n of_o consolation_n than_o be_v
he_o willing_a to_o part_v with_o consolation_n and_o choose_v to_o bear_v christ_n company_n in_o the_o way_n of_o suffering_n and_o take_v pleasure_n in_o so_o do_v 2_o cor._n 12.10_o but_o my_o friend_n know_v you_o what_o i_o mean_v by_o what_o be_v already_o say_v do_v you_o know_v what_o be_v the_o cross_n of_o christ_n and_o what_o must_v die_v upon_o that_o cross_n i_o hope_v you_o praise_n of_o man_n be_v loathsome_a to_o you_o and_o little_o do_v you_o care_v for_o any_o approbation_n of_o any_o whatsoever_o and_o then_o pleasure_n of_o the_o sense_n and_o the_o affection_n with_o or_o in_o any_o thing_n create_v or_o act_v be_v not_o at_o all_o regard_v loss_n of_o friend_n and_o increase_v of_o foe_n be_v all_o one_o thing_n yea_o love_n of_o friend_n and_o hatred_n of_o foe_n be_v all_o one_o rich_a and_o poor_a be_v all_o one_o loss_n or_o gain_v all_o one_o good_a report_n and_o bad_a report_n all_o one_o duty_n perform_v our_o unperformed_a all_o one_o congregat_v or_o uncongregated_a all_o one_o and_o whatsoever_o in_o their_o name_n and_o nature_n may_v differ_v be_v all_o one_o for_o why_o god_n be_v but_o one_o and_o all_o and_z as_o man_n be_v in_o god_n by_o earnest_n of_o desire_n viz._n by_o be_v on_v with_o christ_n by_o way_n of_o suffering_n the_o will_n of_o man_n become_v transplant_v out_o of_o variety_n and_o differ_v of_o thing_n into_o the_o one_o and_o only_a will_n of_o the_o father_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o christ_n himself_o in_o the_o flesh_n aim_v at_o and_o be_v complete_v in_o he_o even_o onednesse_n of_o will_n and_o well-pleasedness_a with_o suffer_v and_o if_o you_o know_v the_o cross_n of_o christ_n and_o have_v take_v it_o up_o then_o be_v you_o his_o disciple_n and_o then_o he_o teach_v you_o to_o forsake_v yourselves_o in_o all_o thing_n but_o i_o somewhat_o fear_v that_o you_o follow_v not_o christ_n in_o this_o way_n no_o not_o so_o much_o as_o in_o a_o outward_a conformity_n for_o i_o doubt_v that_o superfluity_n of_o the_o outward_a man_n be_v not_o as_o yet_o forsake_v of_o you_o much_o less_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n in_o the_o inward_a man_n in_o crucify_a for_o i_o can_v believe_v you_o have_v learned_a christ_n in_o another_o way_n then_o in_o follow_v he_o by_o suffering_n by_o which_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n be_v to_o be_v destroy_v for_o that_o way_n you_o have_v learn_v be_v to_o believe_v in_o christ_n and_o apply_v his_o suffering_n and_o not_o to_o follow_v his_o suffering_n yea_o &_o that_o be_v a_o very_a cunning_a easy_a way_n for_o by_o that_o way_n you_o can_v close_v with_o christ_n in_o what_o he_o suffer_v himself_o and_o by_o a_o historical_a faith_n can_v believe_v that_o what_o he_o suffer_v be_v for_o you_o and_o by_o that_o false_a faith_n can_v apply_v christ_n in_o the_o way_n of_o propitiation_n and_o yet_o forsake_v he_o in_o the_o way_n of_o imitation_n and_o i_o promise_v you_o this_o be_v a_o handsome_a way_n if_o it_o be_v a_o sure_a way_n for_o hereby_o god_n and_o the_o world_n christ_n and_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n may_v stand_v all_o in_o one_o soul_n and_o i_o wish_v you_o be_v not_o cozen_v in_o this_o very_a point_n and_o i_o assure_v you_o that_o if_o you_o have_v not_o follow_v christ_n in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o cross_n in_o the_o daily_o deny_v of_o yourselves_o both_o inward_o and_o outward_o by_o that_o faith_n you_o have_v get_v whereby_o you_o apply_v christ_n in_o his_o suffering_n you_o will_v be_v beguile_v one_o day_n for_o that_o faith_n be_v but_o that_o which_o draw_v you_o into_o duty_n and_o kirk-fellowship_n and_o not_o into_o the_o fellowship_n of_o christ_n and_o herein_o you_o may_v prove_v the_o enemy_n both_o of_o christ_n and_o his_o cross_n but_o let_v i_o call_v to_o your_o remembrance_n another_o old_a say_n out_o of_o date_n or_o at_o leastwise_o out_o of_o request_n and_o so_o but_o little_o heed_v and_o yet_o it_o shall_v be_v one_o of_o he_o who_o be_v a_o follower_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o cross_n and_o this_o be_v paul_n and_o let_v we_o see_v and_o judge_v by_o it_o who_o be_v the_o enemy_n of_o the_o cross_n and_o when_o he_o forward_o to_o the_o price_n of_o the_o high_a call_n viz._n by_o bear_v the_o cross_n of_o self-deniall_n and_o so_o bear_v christ_n company_n have_v fellowship_n with_o he_o in_o his_o suffering_n by_o which_o he_o be_v to_o have_v the_o body_n of_o sin_n and_o selfnesse_n destroy_v that_o thereby_o he_o may_v live_v in_o the_o lovely_a fellowship_n of_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o this_o he_o aim_v at_o and_o wish_v those_o who_o be_v of_o the_o same_o spirit_n with_o he_o that_o they_o shall_v all_o mind_n the_o same_o thing_n and_o walk_v by_o the_o same_o rule_n and_o follow_v he_o as_o he_o follow_v christ_n and_o then_o in_o pity_n and_o tenderheartedness_n and_o weep_v he_o tell_v they_o of_o those_o who_o be_v the_o enemy_n of_o the_o cross_n and_o paint_v they_o out_o in_o their_o right_a colour_n and_o give_v they_o their_o portion_n in_o the_o first_o place_n set_v the_o effect_n before_o the_o cause_n vid._n destruction_n and_o then_o set_v a_o threefold_a character_n upon_o they_o as_o the_o cause_n of_o their_o destruction_n viz._n who_o belly_n be_v their_o god_n who_o glory_n in_o their_o shame_n who_o mind_n earthly_a thing_n phil._n 3.18_o 19_o this_o be_v a_o old_a say_n little_o heed_v but_o mark_v it_o well_o for_o here_o i_o call_v it_o to_o a_o new_a remembrance_n i_o hope_v god_n be_v what_o he_o be_v then_o christ_n be_v that_o foolish_a act_n yet_o every_o one_o can_v excuse_v himself_o and_o think_v it_o may_v belong_v to_o some_o other_o but_o mark_v well_o what_o shall_v be_v say_v and_o see_v which_o of_o you_o can_v excuse_v himself_o when_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o say_n be_v open_v well_o what_o be_v god_n he_o be_v the_o chief_a delight_n and_o chief_a treasure_n and_o those_o that_o know_v he_o do_v choose_v he_o so_o and_o he_o be_v their_o chief_a delight_n and_o chief_a treasure_n and_o so_o their_o heart_n be_v with_o he_o and_o all_o its_o affection_n in_o seek_v love_a fear_v and_o desire_v
